Only way to take advantage of the N2 is to stick with Touchwiz? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

I currently have a Galaxy Nexus and was going to get a Nexus 4 but after reports of not so great battery, I'm thinking about going with a Note 2 instead. I had a Galaxy S2 with Touchwiz and did not like the look of it at all, it was just so basic. Problem solved after I rooted and installed a custom ROM on there.
However with the Note 2, from what I've read, a lot of features will be forfeited by leaving Touchwiz. I'm using AOKP with my Galaxy Nexus and like all the added tweaks and will find it hard to leave them.

with a quad core and 2gb of ram I don't have any issues just running apex (or another launcher) over touchwiz launcher. Get most of the TW tweaks with a better launcher.

Agreed with using launchers. Ive used the s2, s3 and now the note2 with nova and love it. Love the gestures as well. Cant get much better imo

Totally agree. I am using Go Launcher and couldn't be happier. I think most people grab roms because they have a tweaked launcher... but I can't understand what I am missing by not doing so, other than multi-window. I would rather wait for multi window and have the rest of the phone work than the other way around.

Touchwiz on galaxy nexus read thread

I would love to port touchwiz over to galaxy nexus and I would love to get some developers on and plus this would be my first rom ever and I would need help to build this rom
People usually root to get rid of touchwiz.

I know that people root to get rid of touchwiz but I would like to port touchwiz to galaxy nexus and build it to be better then touchwiz from Samsung
I'm sorry. Looks like you're alone on that boat.
Good luck though

Not to question you, but do you actually have the skills to do this? Something like this is not an easy task for people that know what they are doing so when you say you will help, does than mean you will test or can you actually contribute?
While some do not like TW, I do not understand why people would complain if there are more options for you phone. If you do not like it, move on to something else but don't tell people not to do it.
If the new TW was ported with all the new features in the SGS3 I am sure people would jump on it. Even the TW haters.

This is blasphemy...that is all
LOL, why in the world would you want to have touchwiz on the nexus?
As I say that, it's better than sense 4.0. Nothing is better than stock ICS imo.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061883
U can install it as a normal apk, or if u're rooted u can also push it to /system/app to enable delete apps directly from app drawer. In that same section u'll find another thread with tw launcher. This is of course TW4. Anyways, i've lived the tw experience and my final thought was "i'm never going back" , it was for sure my worst android experience.
And finally, as a response to the guy that claims that tw is a God in comparison to sense, i would propose to go jump off a cliff. They both suck and are no way close to vanilla feel, but if i had to choose between those 2 , i would go with sense, i've tried all sense versions up to sense 3.5 and neither tw3 nor tw4 are not even close.

A bit much there. Some people like like touchwiz because of some of the features it brings to the table that, quite frankly, should be in the Galaxy Nexus. The one that is bothering the HELL out of me right now is Wifi-Direct.
The S2, running Gingerbread, has a fully functioning, built-in Wifi-Direct Application. The Nexus? Does not. (Also every single video codec native to it without needing an app)
The S3, will have a better camera app, S-Beam, and a whole host of other features, that are only included with TouchWiz.
The features I've mentioned are not limited by the hardware differences between the S2 or even the S3 in comparison to the Nexus.
It's not always about looks, it's about features as well. I doubt telling someone to go jump off a cliff if they don't agree with your opinion on design is warranted.
Not a fan of touchwiz or sense
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Jump off a cliff was metaphoric of course (didn't expect i would need to explain that). Anyways, all this stuff is a matter of taste, and yes there are people who like tw, for whatever reasons. As i mentioned i spent time in both worlds, the only feature I liked in tw was the memo app. The features in sense such as widgets (weather, stocks, htc email, news feed and so on), more practical and nicer lockscreen, better transition and scrolling animations, recent apps and settings shortcuts in starus bar, and visually nicer and more colorful UI etc... plus, the whole general feel and smoothness of sense, i'm not talking about sense 4, although htc will polish the software on one x in future updates. Unless someone hadn't lived with both UI's his/her arguements are not valid.
Anyways back on topic, the "features" u mentioned in ur post above are directly integrated into the samsung framework and other system files, and u can see the progress of such ports in the gnex dev section. But that's not the point, people who NEED TW features should go and buy samsung phones with tw, gnex is clearly not the best choice for them.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
OK some of you guys need to understand that if wants to bring TW to the galaxy nexus so be it. I'm tired of reading crap about how "why would you want it" if you don't want it don't flash it when there's a touchwiz rom simple as that. Don't sit here and tell him you hate TW for what ever reason. He is asking for help to port it. If u are not going to contribute then don't say anything at all.

Why buy a gnex if you want a manufacturer overlay?
Seems kind of strange to me. I got a gnex because I wanted pure google.
The Sensation forum is also full of people complaining they don't want sense.
It's all very strange, like buying a vw golf and being disappointed that you can't put a 7 litre v10 in it.

So you're last sentence is inferring the Galaxy Nexus is a mid range Android "vehicle" and Sense is a more advanced custom engine that it can't handle?
I know that's not what you meant, but the analogy was hmm

[Q] TouchWiz UI on Jelly Bean?

The only thing I miss from Jelly Bean is the SIII TouchWiz launcher. Anybody know how to get that working on a Jelly Bean 4.1 installation?

You could always install a launcher similar to TouchWiz but you would never get a full TouchWiz until someone develops something like a ROM for the Galaxy Nexus similar to the Nature UX TouchWiz from the S3
It's funny how you would want TouchWiz since people get the Galaxy Nexus for the pure stock google and for fast updates xD Not to have custom interfaces like sense and touchwiz. And if you get bored with the stock interface you could always get a new launcher/ROM
lol. I'm TouchWiz fan as well here. It would be nice to have a TouchWiz rom. More choice for us
Touchwiz is by far the ugliest UI ever.
Sense is the most bloated and heavy UI.
MIUI makes one feel retarded, much like owning an iDevice.
Motoblur is just after Touchwiz in ugliness.
Stock android is the way to go. Otherwise, buy a device with the respective UI preinstalled.

The thing I really miss is the Acuweather widget for the home screen. I like Jelly Bean for everything else. I really like having the simple clock and the customized weather backdrop.

There's only one thing kinda worthy of "trashing" the Nexus brand purpose.
Sense 4. That's it.
Why would you want it? touchwizx is disgusting, ugly as hell, i got a nexus to get away from touchwiz, it almost ruined the galaxy s ii
The SIII Accuweather widget is my favorite, and part of the charm of the Galaxy Nexus is the ability to choose what you like to put on it. I like a combination of the buttery smoothness of Jelly Bean with the SIII Accuweather widget.
I can't blame anyone wanting an OEM launcher.
Although the Nexus is designed for stock experience, it's also the best phone for variety, I'd rather have choices than none at all.

Multi-Window Feature

TN Goodness JB rom is supposed to have it when 5.0 drops which should be this week.
can't wait till we get it on stock roms (I like my tw/samsung features) LOVING multi on the Note II
BTW switch to 240dpi multi is SO much more useful at 240dpi.

[Q] S4 Camera functions

So, it looks like GS4 has some nifty camera features built in. Do you think those features will eventually trickle down to our Note2 via official update or only through custom rom hacks?
Nop, the Note 2 will still stay strong & will easily compete with the rest

it will come at some stage but definitely not soonish. (just look how long it took for the original note to receive the "nature ux") I think we'll see a lot of those features being ported to galaxy s3 and a part of those which were ported to s3 will eventually get through to us and our note 2.
so if you have lots of patience you might get it via an official update (but samsung would stop people buying s4 when you easily could get it on the note 2 or s3)
I'd rather put my hopes on custom roms

Forget the camera stuff -- just give me the gesture navigation on my Note2 so I can read Flipboard and eat Cheetos at the same time without having to pause every few minutes to wipe off the screen.

Haha, I would love that, as well!
the dual camera feature was something i had in my mind for almost a year but since im not a developer i couldnt make it come to life but samsung did it!!
What ya mean there's nothing wow on the GS4. Wowed me. Specs swim circles around the Note.
Samsung brought the SIII features to the original Note. Than brought the Note II's features to the SIII and original Note.
It's clear that the Note II and SIII will receive every software related features of the S4. Probably around June-July.

Touchwiz.apk request

Good evening, was hoping someone could post the TW launcher included on their 8/10.5 Tabs. I have a Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 ed that I'd like to try and use it for (and since the resolution and Android versions are the same...I thought it might be no/minimal headaches).
For those of you that haven't played with one...the Note 10.1has a god awful hald-baked version of TW on it, which looks kinda like a GS4 versions...and kind of like the Pro models. I'm using the Google Now launcher, but miss some of the Two features oddly...so I'd like to give this version a shot!
Thanks,
Z
