[Q] Shoot in RAW & Image processing LG optimus G pro - LG Optimus G Pro

hi, my xda friend, i have a couple of months my lg optimus g pro from at&t..
the cellphone is really good, but i dont like the camera, has a low dinamic range! the jpegs didnt have a good render colors and the information in the jpegs is horrible.!
i would like know if exist some way to shoot in raw and edit in some apps, or a better way to process the cooked pictures!
some apk use just the processing after inphone camera core processing like camera360, the image render with any filter is the same like the stock camera apk.
i would like to know some information about that!

Try Camera FV-5 on the playstore. It shoots in RAW and has been reported to work on GPro.

Photography is a big hobby of mine. If this app captures in RAW, I will be in heaven!!!
OP, I post process all pics, from my DSLR and my phones, in Adobe Lightroom on PC. You can do some amazing processing / noise reduction even on not-so-good jpgs. Especially if you use plug-ins. Topaz plug-ins are one of my favorites.
**EDIT**
Just tried Camera FV-5. Excellent app with lots of SLR type features and settings! Doesn't look like pure RAW capture, but saves in PNG. I shoot in 10mp on my e980 in order to get 16x9 framing. Looks like this app saves uncompressed PNG, a 10mp PNG is a little over 10mb in size. This app is well worth purchasing! Thanks stfly!

Zagnutty, you're very welcome.
The problem with the GPro camera, imo, is that you need very specific lighting conditions for acceptable results. Video is mostly great even indoors but the photo results vary greatly. I use the stock camera. I tried lenovo and another camera, I think 360, but the results were slightly worse than stock.
I believe that the hardware is good but very poorly optimized.

Being able to shoot a lossless pic allows for much better post processing to increase the quality.
This looks interesting, but we have to wait for KK update to try it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2695447
Now if only I could capture RAW uncompressed RGB video, I'd be very very happy! But I know that will never happen.

Good camera apps?

Hi, have been using stock sgs camera. Its okay.. but was wondering if there's a better camera app out there.
When I had my HTC magic, camera 360 really improved the quality of the photos.
But when I compare the photos I took on my sgs from the stock camera app vs camera 360, I kinda prefer the stock camera colours.

Have you tried Vignette. It has loads of different settings.
I've only tried the demo version of vignette. And that does not allow the 5mpx resolutions to be used. Besides the array of settings, does vignette actually improve the quality of the photos taken? Thanks.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
The full version of Vignette does indeed take better quality images, but it takes significantly more time to process the photos.
i just tried vignette and the quality was near enough the same .. refunded it cos it wasnt worth the money
the camera is the only thing i dont like about this phone
Have you tried the Photoshop app? Its not exactly a camera application but it has lots of settings for touching photos up afterwards. Maybe one of the filters will give you the effect you require
I too would pay for a real pro app. Something that will take higher res panorama shots and something with a real HDR function. By real I mean not a simulation and not tone mapping from the gallery pics. There's a app for the iDevices that works wonders on the iP4. Tried everything so far, still waiting.

360 pro simulates HDR and simulates a lot of other stuff, we need a app that actually takes better shots etc. At least that's my experience with it.
The camera apps on the android market are really sub-par.
I don't use the camera much to begin with, but an app as good as Hipstamatic or Camera Pro like on the iPhone would be great.
Vignette has an ugly interface and has average picture quality, and Retro Camera has horrible picture quality.

[APP] Camera FV-5 - camera app with user customized exposure time

Hi,
this app works on my HTC One X.
The first app with working user customized exposure time (attached pictures)!
Camera FV-5 > Google Play
description said:
Camera FV-5 is a professional camera application for mobile devices, that puts DSLR-like manual controls in your fingertips. Tailored to enthusiast and professional photographers, with this camera application you can capture the best raw photographs so that you can post-process them later and get stunning results. The only limit is your imagination and creativity!
Major features:
• All photographic parameters are adjustable and always at hand: exposure compensation, ISO, light metering mode, focus mode, white balance and program mode.
• DSLR-like viewfinder display: see exposure time, aperture and stops display with EV and bracketing settings.
• Full fledged exposure bracketing: from 3 to 7 frames, unlimited stops spacing, plus custom EV shifting.
• Built-in intervalometer: make stunning timelapses (even bracketed/HDR timelapses) and time-controlled picture series.
• Program and Speed-priority modes.
• Long exposure support: take beautiful night photos and light trails with long exposure times up to 60 seconds*.
• JPEG as well as RAW (PNG**) image formats for lossless photo capturing, perfect for post-processing.
• EXIF and XMP sidecar metadata support.
• Self timer for delayed shooting.
• Autofocus, macro, touch-to-focus*** and infinity focus modes, plus a focus lock switch (AF-L).
• In background photo developing and processing allows a smooth, uninterrupted camera operation.
This camera application completely avoids scene modes, instead you get full manual control over all photographic parameters, just like you do with a reflex camera, so you can ultimately control every aspect of the picture, and leave the post-processing to the computer. So after your DSLR, you will never miss a photo opportunity again, being able to capture it with the closer sensation to your DSLR as possible.
If you find a bug using the application, please, visit the web page http://www.camera.flavionet.com or write to [email protected] with your phone model name and the description of the problem, before writing a negative comment. Customer satisfaction is my priority, and I will try to fix it as soon as possible!
* Long exposures lowers picture resolution to 2 or 1 MP, depending models. The reason is explained here: http://www.camera.flavionet.com/faq.php#long-exposure-resolution
** Lossless PNG saving is a memory intensive operation. Some devices might need to raise the memory limit for Camera FV-5 to save PNG pictures. See the FAQ here: http://www.camera.flavionet.com/faq.php#png-memory
*** Touch-to-focus available only on Motorola, HTC and Nvidia camera drivers, plus some Samsung drivers and other phones.

The only things the i change are the format and the light metering mode! You need to set it according to the pictures to take! Macro, portrait or landscape .. I don't like the jpg format because i came from DSLR! The negative side is the space for the photo! 12 Mb >>> 5 Mb!! But the quality is much higher!!
---------- Post added at 05:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:00 PM ----------
Another thing.. To save space and don't have a milion of file, i only save the EXIF data!
thx, i will try now.
You're welcome! Keep me updated!
Just installed the free version, not even gonna bother trying it, the limitation on the free version is the stupidest thing they could have done, 640x480 max resolution, I want to take photos at it's full resolution to compare it with stock and other camera apps, can't make any sort of quality comparison with a 640x480 image.
Is it the app cannot support custom input of aperture ?
Thanks.

Best replacement camera app for LGG4?

Has anyone tried any replacement camera apps for the LGG4? Don't get me wrong, I like the stock camera but I do think it lacks a little in features (in auto mode). I tried 'Open Camera' and I really like the extra features but It only has 4x zoom instead of the 8x the stock camera handles. I also don't know if any 3rd party camera apps take full advantage of the G4's laser focus and color spectrum analyzer? Another feature that I like in 'Open Camera' is the ability to select scenes such as back light, indoors, macro and candle light. I know the G4 stock app has automatic scene selection but I like a little more control.
So what do you guys think? The big thing is if any 3rd party apps take full advantage of the G4's hardware? If so, what are some feature packed camera apps?
ProShot for me. Little slow to focus but with ISO 50 and NR off the daylight shots are just amazing.

Has it some filters to preview a shot before take it? that's the only thing I miss from the stock camera, the ability to use filters before taking pictures, because sometimes don't have time or mood to postprocess. Thanks!

I woulden't be over concerned by the low zoom capabilities of Open camera. Zoom only degrades the quality and sharpness of the picture anyway... If you really have to use it, i woulden't recommend you go beyond 4x. Other thing, no 3rd party camera app can fully utilize all of the G4's features and capabilities. It's simply not possible, as of yet anyway. So, my advice to you and everyone else is, use the default camera app as it is quite powerfull if you know how to manage the manual settings .
Here is a link that explains in detail the manual mode:

Anyone seen a camera app that has a fancy animated facial recognition reticle like the Galaxy Edge Plus/Note 5's have? It actually moves across the screen and targets a detected face in the scene. I know that it is completely gingerbread, but it would be a pretty cool feature!

Found that there's a free demo for this at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riseupgames.proshot_free
Which is nice to try it out. Very restrictive demo, allowing only 2 full res shots. I'm keen to try out the low ISO with the NR off you mention (as I've yet to see a photo at this handset level beat the G4 in a decent lit outdoor shot), but my handset went hot as hell whilst running the demo, possibly showing its using all the available processer power but a bit unsettling for potential longer usage.
:edit: unistalled and let handset cool down. Reinstalled and handset ran uncomfortably hot again. Shame, but thanks for the recommendation.
Hi, just got an LG G4 today and tried a few camera apps. Stock is great and since it has a manual raw mode, no need for 3rd party apps imho.
ProShot is nice and does show a low res preview of dngs in its viewer (useful to send them to PS Express for instance); BUT I have noticed that it does only goes to 0,6s in manual exposure (while stock goes to 30s). So for (ocasional) dng viewing I will use Slingshot Portfolio and for the processing, PS Express, much friendlier than Photomate (which yields slightly sharper pics, but with much worse color balance...)
Snap HDR Camera has an interesting low light mode that merges multiple exposures to increase detail / lower noise, BUT then again you can use manual long exposures in the stock app, which in dark conditions will give better results.
For panos I prefer Google's camera interface and options .
Anyway, those are my quick impressions.
You made my day! Thank you!
This one (especially ability to switch off NR) gives me the best from the G4
Tweaking sharpness and NR should be native and available in Stock camera app in manual mode
Shame on you LG!

hey Kemby13,
what exactly do you think can proshot or camera fv-5 or other camera apps not utilize from the hardware?
I'm considering buying the LG G4 but have similar thoughts as the thread starter. I'm comfortable with manual modes on cameras and shoot/edit raw with my DSLR but I'm looking for more or better auto modes than the stock camera app can offer. Also lots of reviews show that the auto mode of the G4 is not as good as images taken in auto mode with other smartphones (I'm not speaking of what the LG camera is capable of once it is used in manual mode). I thought that maybe other apps give better images in auto modes than the stock app (plus more options/scene modes). I often find myself in situations where I don't have the time to setup in manual mode but would like to tell the app to at least use a fast shutter speed (sports mode) etc.
my second concern is because I love custom roms. and even though there are hardly any out there for the G4 I'd still try the few available ones and would need a good camera app. Proshot etc will work on any rom (yes, the shutter speed is reduced to max. 0,7).
But what else would I be losing?
To the thread starter: have you reached a solution? I'd be very curious to know.
Thx and greetz,
vercetti.
Proshot doesn't have HDR that I can find. I don't recall if Camera FV-5 does but I prefer the custom modes of Proshot to FV-5.
I would settle for an app that can take pictures using flash in half the time that mine currently does.
I am waiting for Almalence's Better Camera to support camera api2 on the LG G4, so we can test its SUPER mode on our phone, similar to Google Camera's HDR+. I wonder how it would compare to LG's own Night mode.
According to the developper, it's planned and in alpha stage.
Did you guys find any app that can get to 30" shutter speed? It seems like I can only get that with the stock app.

RAW Support and long exposures

Hi
Does anyone know if there is a way to save images as RAW in the Moto Z Play?
Also, the manual (pro) mode allows you to change the exposure duration but this seems to be maxed to 1/6 - any way to get to longer exposure times?
Thank you.
No idea about the RAW support but if you want to take long exposure shots there are a few camera apps on the Play Store which should do the trick (Camera FV-5 Lite for example) but I never tried any so you may have to try a few in order to find something you're happy with.

Cheers! I've got Camera FV-5 installed and it does present longer exposure times, but I cant tell the difference between them and the stock camera photos. For example, photos taken in stock camera at 1/6 look the same as FV5 at 5 second exp. I don't have my phone to hand but will post some examples later.

I'm not surprised if there's no differences between the 2 but I thought you could make 30 seconds exposure shots with Camera FV-5 (which would surely make a difference with the stock camera)
About RAW support, from what I've read the Z Play doesn't support it unfortunately. You'd need the TrueZoom mod to get RAW support, which is quite an expensive buy.

Edit: Tried to save RAW with Snap but although it gives me the option I was not able to find a RAW image on my card...
I use the Snap Camera app from Playstore. It's extremely versatile and gives you tons of options and it has RAW support with our Z Play.
It needs some time to try out all options and find out the best for the phone and it also costs a few bucks (although there is a free version too). But I think it's worth it. For example it's also the only app I've found which let's you tourn of the denoise filter which is sometimes very helpfull when making pictures of landscapes which lots of details.
The interface is a little annoying at first but you can turn off everything and build your own interface with the free customizable shortcut buttons (settings - advanced - on screen settings).
It has also a good support on XDA.
Thanks for this. It's odd, camera fv 5 says the phone does not support RAW. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What really bugs me though is the exposure times. I'll give it a try to see what sort of image I get with a 30 sec exposure now.

If im not mistaken, Camera2API supports raw format. Whenever Lenovo finally enables it (Nougat?) we should be able to export to raw format.

I found that long exposure shots have a very limited use :-\
True it's not something you'd use everyday, but it would've been good to have this work as it should. The only other thing I can think of is that they've nerfed it on purpose so the camera mod sells.

Hello. My Moto E4 Plus does not take good quality images. I tried outdoor, good light. but images are low quality seems like 5px not the 13px
Also very strange that i have no options in camera/video settings, i cant adjust resolution or other options, whihc all other phones have. Maybe im missing something?

Seems like sometime front camera takes better pictures than rear. i dont know what to do Very dissapointed.

I'm not a big user of phone cameras. I never use any settings. I just open it, take a picture, and move on. If I can take a picture of what I want, and tell what it is later, and be able to enjoy looking at it, I'm happy. This camera does it's job well. No complaints.
I'm ugly, but I took this with the e4 on lineage.
No one

Hi,
I have same problem with poor quality pictures and discovered and installed a new app from PlayStore. It is about FreeDCam and for me it makes a huge difference when taking pictures.
Also may be opened with double click on Power button.
Wish you all best.
Hi. I have this phone. It is from a family member. I've updated it to version 113. I've rooted it. all good. but in the rear camera, the maximum resolution is 5mpx. and in the front chamber, the maximum resolution: 13mpx.
that is, the reverse of what it should be. and in addition, the photos with the rear camera are out of focus.
I will try to go back to the rom stock, because before rooting and unlocking bootloader, it was fine.
