[Q] Your Acro S ancient by now? - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

I think it's still good enough for my use which excludes games, but I would really like a bigger screen, better camera and stock KitKat.
I think it's on its last straw. It reboots now and then which it didn't do before. Maybe it's worn out by all that flashing. Got rooted stock with UL bootlader.

I have a xperia s which is bootloader unlock no and it is also on its last straw

Xperia t was horrible. Slow, bad battery life, virtual navigation buttons taking up screen space and got so hot it could burn my ear

Now that it has gone past its warranty, I am playing with new ROMs. It is still quite good and I use it as my primary phone, until the Z2 Compact comes out... hehe...
If you are having issues, you can always flash the original ROM and use Titanium to restore your apps.

Thinking about buying a Play

Hi all,
I currently have a Fascinate on Verizon and am sick of the issues it is having. It seems a large number of them have memory issues and it's constantly restarting and bootlooping at an empty battery screen. Long story short, I want to buy a used Play. Mainly for two reasons. One, I want a working phone, and two, I love playing emulators but hate on-screen controls.
How are you folks liking the Play currently? How are the ICS ROMs running? How is emulator performance (PS1 specifically) on ICS ROMs? Does the gamepad work on ICS ROMs?
Thanks for your help; I really don't want to switch phones for something worse :/

I got my Xperia Play for 169euro in Vodafone IE, so i think it was the best value android phone ever! But i was worried becouse how come Vodafone reduced 500 euro price to 169, i thought it must be crappy phone! But after bootloader unlock and flashing .58 firmware + TrueAncestor Rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546134&highlight=true i think this phone is great! Works fast and smoth, battery for me is long enough too, around 3 days for some wifi use, text and calls. Im not playing so much but i used keypad on GTAIII or Shadowgun and it was good fun! I hate using touchscreen if I played some game ever More likely i flashed few Custom Roms but the best working ICS ROM for me is AokPlay! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582118. So many options!!!!!! and theme manager and many many more! good luck!
I wouldn't because in terms of performance, it's not an upgrade from your old phone, just install cm9 or something and keep using your phone till your contracts up :O
I don´t know If I would buy it again, it´s the best phone ever, BUT, it´s the WORST built quality I´ve ever seem, and I´m serious, it´s the cheapest plastic on a mobile I´ve ever, after 1 week only some cracks appears on the plastic, it hapenned twice, when I first bought it, and after I sent it back and received a new one, they both had the same problem...
Really a shame, it´s the perfect smartphone, with the worst material, don´t know why Sony did that...
I have dropped mine a couple of times but there are no cracks at all...

I'm not looking for an "upgrade" to my old phone. My old phone doesn't work properly as I said in my OP. I already had ICS on it too. I'm looking for something to hold me over till December till my upgrade is due, and I love emulators but hate onscreen controls.
I just ordered one today so it should be here Tuesday/Wednesday. Thanks for all the input guys

Xperia Play DEAD ?

Hello,
I was using my phone when he just crashed, after that my notification led doesn't work at all (charge, flashmode or fastboot), the backlight doesn't work at all too, the phone is laggy, sometime he vibes, shutdown & in the top it indicate that battery is 0% ?!
I tried much things but it still doesn't work...
If someone could help it'll be really nice.
Thanks
do you use custom rom and kernel?
if you do, just re-flash the kernel and re-install the rom, don't forget to do full wipe
and if you use original firmware (you never done anything to your phone), you can fix it using sony update service which you can find it here
http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/update-service/
do what it says you to do
hope it'll help
But, I allready did all that you said, but it still the same. I think it's an hardware issue of the motherboard but how to repair that ?

At this point probably better to buy a replacement. I can get a used in nice condition AT&T xperia play for about $140 on eBay.
Even after you FTF it still has the issue?

And yeah, I would restore it to stock, then remove all bloatware. If it's a hardware issue, go buy a Galaxy Nexus.

If my phone was broke, I'd go with a Galaxy Nexus in a heartbeat. Sure, we have buttons, but honestly, I just don't see the support from that many people. If this was as popular as the Xoom, GNexus, or Razr, all of our bootloaders would be unlocked. But they just don't wanna put in the time and effort.

Does anyone familiar with the "Sony" phones ?

Only "I" in love with Xperia Z ? The design of the phone was killed me. (the phone is full glass black)
Specs is also very good. And most important it got support for AOSP.

My previous phone was a Xperia Arc S, bought in GB 2.3. Sony update it to ICS, but the first update was a failure: far less memory available, many games stop working. 3 update later, it's better, but finaly i ended to put a custom rom, better than Sony one.
This is one reason why i don't buy another Sony phone. One other reason is there is no many differents models, that it make comparison between models too complicated.
Sony bootloader are locked, you can unlocked them to put different kernel, but you loose the warranty. It's not a big problems, you can always root and put new roms.
The build quality is good, except the paint: I bought a pink one, and paint around the corner fade in few months, showing white plastic behind.
It's still a good phone, I kept it as a backup one, in case of my Note II broke or is stolen. I put the Sony phone in plane mode, and in this mode, battery goes from 100% to 10% in 30days.
I'm always using Sony PC companion for sync between my Outlook account and phone. Kies sync directly the phone, without update you Google account. PC companion update you google account only, and after that you can sync you phone or any device related to you account.
Guys thank you so much !
You all help me a lot ! Love xda.

Ion or not to Ion...

As lots of you have seen, the lt28at is really cheap on Amazon and eBay (around $250 unlocked) and I'm thinking about buying one as a replacement for my aging HTC Desire.
What do those of you with one think? Is there another phone in that price range that's better? Are you happy with it? It seems the best phone in that price range.
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app
Im happy with my ion(got it on ebay), good screen, good perfotmance, decent camera. Got a few issues with it though: my camera lens got scratched to the point i couldnt take pics, so i had to do a fix( I used my N95 lens as replacement, works great now), no unlockable bootloader means fewer custom roms. Other than that id say its a good bargain.

before buying the ion, i really expect this to do much more and much better compare to my previous x10. However, i was so disappointed..
if you want a phone that takes good pictures (good clarity and color), don't take ion;
if you want a phone with good wifi, don't take ion;
if you don't want a phone to randomly shut down the apps you are using without noticing, don't take ion
all of the above essential points to me are not presented in x10, so i am very not happy about the ion
i recommend you just wait for ion's jelly bean review. its ics build is definitely one of the worst if not the worst comparing to samsung/htc/LG's except for the look

choosing ion
I got my Ion on on ebay for $200.00 it's locked to AT&T so i can't use any custom roms, but i am waiting for the JB update hopefully by end of March and or April. What i did do to make my Ion more snappy is of course root it, install CWM, V6 supercharger to decrease lag, use a deodex L28H rom. I do use my S3 as my primary phone for work, but i just love Sony's look when it comes to the phone design. The Ion is a good not great phone but you just need to "tweak" it a little with mods for now to make run a little better, XDA is a great place to check to do just that!
PS. waiting for the ZL that will be my next Sony Xperia!:good:

I've been using an LT28at initially on AT&T then on T-Mobile for a total of 3 months. I previously used an X10 and a Nexus One.
In the U.S., the largest factor for me to have an SIM unlocked ION was its radio. AWS HSPA and LTE bands are covered. Granted LT28at's bootloader is locked and you can't try custom roms or custom kernels. But if you compare the ION with X10, Nexus One or HTC Desire, processing speed alone should feel a big improvement. Sure I love X10 (I still have one) and I personally think X10's push buttons are still better than ION's touch panel buttons. But ION is pretty good, and you won't be disappointed if you switch from HTC Desire.
It looks like I might get the lt28at. I know the bootloader is locked with little hope of that changing, but is it possible to load custom ROMs with the stock kernel?

You can load cwm without any problems. I believe it is another mode( dont recall what its called right now) which the 28at cant go to which is necessary for bootloader unlocking( i tried). There is a guide o how to install cwm on the ion. You can also flash the generic 28h or i firmwares on the 28at without any issues.

Switching to ART improves performance?

Alright, so I was really unimpressed with the performance of the G3. Laggy and not very smooth. So, I decided to give ART a try and switched. Now everything runs super smoothly, like I would expect from a device I paid 600 € for. Can anyone confirm this?

Yeah, sure. However, I didn't get any improvements on the Nexus 4, so I wasn't really optimistic about it. Just wanted to share. I'll check improvements on battery life tomorrow.
I noticed it was a bit smoother . but I found rooting and freezing unused bloatware has made a better improvement however I am not on art at the mo so maybe it will improve even more if I changed it again. I expect this device to be on par with my previous htc one m8 if not better and I still think its just under on performance for the ui I hope it improves as I love everything about this phone its design is fantastic and that's come from a full metal m8

I'm a apple fan to I buy most flagship devices. Htc one m8 had speaker faults then had screen problems. I gave up with that so quickly but I would say it was mega quick tho to use and the CPU is clocked under the g3 cpu. So I wouldn't say a upgrade

Some of us find the M8 a poor excuse for a flagship device. So many ****ty design choices, the foremost one being the useless speakers that just add device bulk and use up real estate without adding any useful functionality. The killer for me was the placement of the black band with the HTC logo. I was always pressing it expecting it to do something. At least they could have put it on top of the screen where it would not have interfered with the user experience as much.

Apart from losing the option to use Xposed, there aren't any downsides. Just remember that when you switch over, it can take 10-20 minutes for all the apps to load at boot. Make sure you have time to do this. You won't have to reset your phone but it will take a while before it's useable.
