[Q] Backup contacts after water damage? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

My dads phone went in the washing machine, it was put in rice for about 48 hours or more, it turns on but the touch screen doesn't work but menu, home, back, vol up&down and power of course. At first it wouldn't charge and my PC wouldn't notice it even plugged in so I opened it up and there was lots of corrosion on most of the connections on the motherboard so I cleaned them the best I could with 70% alcohol and cue tips and now it charges but my PC still doesn't see it. I am able to get into download mode just fine. It is also a bone stock t-mobile T999, never rooted or anything. I also put his motherboard into my T999 to see if the touch screen would work and it didn't. Is it possible to save all his contacts?
And no sync was setup, but I set it up on his new note 3.

Has your dad ever logged into the phone with a Gmail account ? If so please go to
contacts.google.com
and log on using that account.

No, that's what I men't by no sync, he didn't even have a gmail till made one for his note 3.

Touch Screen may not work but what happened when you put the motherboard in your phone ? Also when you connect to PC as-is ? Does PC show up as QSUB_XXXXX something or none at all ?

Well there was no difference when the motherboard was in my phone, my touch screen wasn't picking up anything with his motherboard. When I plug it in to my PC nothing pops up in device manager or my computer and odin doesn't see it either, this is with it sitting at the lock screen.

I believe, the phone has to be unlocked for the pc to register MTP device.
If it still does not register after that attempt, then you probably may have to subject it to a JTAG although not high hopes. You could also take it to a Samsung service centre, where they can read the memory by other means. I am sorry I am at a loss of expertise in that regard.

Well idk how to "subject it to a JTAG" but there are no Samsung service centre's in Hawaii so I called Samsung and the lady just read some trouble shooting steps after I explained my issue and she was no help at all but I guess i'm just gonna send it in for a 100 dollar refund cause I magically made the red water indicators white again but thanks anyway.

I am sorry to hear that. Ah well if you don't have service centre, then I guess, your options are limited.
Do please explore T-Mo JUMP upgrade.

USB Sync not working, Charge only

I am trying to upload a new ROM to my phone but i am having problems with it being recognised by my PC.
Firewall is switched off on my PC.
USB to PC settings on phone set to prompt me and default to ActiveSync.
PC not finding the Memory Card also as a drive.
Hard-Reset also performed with no joy.
Nothing is happening however other than charging. This is the same on all PC's i have tried.
Any ideas how i can get it working??

If you find a solution, tell me!
Mine won't sync either, no matter what I try, so I've resorted to using a BT USB for syncing/file transfer. I have to flash via SD card and won't be able to use Task29 until it's set up to work via SD card either.

You can enter bootloader and then plug in the usb. This way you don't need to sync with active sync Task29 runs this way.

Nope, that won't work for me. When I enter the bootloader, it says 'serial' in the white portion at the bottom instead of 'usb'. No amount of hard resets clears this up for me.
Thanks, though.

There's good news and bad...
I had this problem, the good news is that I think it's fixed now, the bad news is it involve a trip to HTC. I flashed back to stock and still had the problem, called HTC who agreed it was probably a h/w fault, they piucked it up, repaired it and it's in a UPS van on it's way back to me as I type.
Until it comes back I can't confirm they really have repaired it, or what they've done to fix it.

Thanks so much, Gordon. Please let me know how it worked out for you and what costs were involved.
I'm sure, at some point, I will have to bite the bullet and get mine fixed as well.

I have the same problem.
After all, I find that the USB port of the phone is bad, i.e. some pins are brocken.
After changing the USB port, I solved the problem.

Just to make sure, did you set Activesync to use the slower method? When I upgraded my ROM I had to use the slow method in order for my Windows 7 to see the new ROM.
guys i have the same prob and i bought it from USA unlocked Stock Asian Rom and Now i am in Pakistan.I had some major issues with it.It just stopped syncing one day.Have tried everything. The battery usage also increased dramatically(it dies in 10 hrs after a full recharge)I thought it was a virus but now i think its hardware.I think i'll send it for warranty claim.
I just went through this on my VZW TP2. A month ago it began syncing slowly or not at all, very sporadic, and after messing with it for two hours it began working again. I tried everything except a hard-reset, including reinstalling ActiveSync, changing cables, etc. It happened again earlier in the week and an hour with HTC on the phone couldn't revive it. I called VZW and had a new phone in two days, and we're now up and running again.
I tried BT sync at one time but didn't like having to click multiple times to get it going every time I got within range. There doesn't seem to be a way to have it sync automatically or with one button.
I have the Tmo TP2 and SAME issue, I luckily am getting a new one from Tmo, but I am really starting to think something more is going on here........... I am not convinced ALL OF US, even a lot on PPC geeks, same exact issue? different carriers? come on........... I am glad I am getting a new one, but I would really love to know the root cause of this. IT SEEMS VERY VERY VERY MUCH LIKE THE "TRANSFER DATA" option if "turned off" (if you will), not a physical hardware failure. Kinda like you can turn that option off in windows to not allow USB storage devices to connect, you can still connect other devices (mice, keyboards) or charge things (like our phone) but the computer will NOT see it there at all!!! I really think something like that is happening IN our phones!!! hundreds of us bend the same pin(s). Too wierd.
I hade the same problem!
After trying everything I finally opened up the phone. In the phone I found some dust particles on the usb pins on the board, I cleaned it up and now the sync works again.
NO Sync with Windows 7
I have the same issue with my Win 7 machine...... PC does not even see the Phone at all. Plug it into my Windows XP machine and it's perfect, connects everytime, using the same cable. i have tried everything i can find on the internet and multipal forums, still no Joy! Works great on Win xp, so i think it is a problem with win 7 drivers.....
Still searching for an answer........
Oh, by the way it was working for months, just stopped one day....i even wiped out my pc and reloaded it, no Joy!
I'm starting to have the same issues on my AT&T Tilt 2 but sporadically. Every now and then I lose the phone in MS activesync. I have to delicately place the phone on the table and gently insert the USB cable into the back of the phone in order for it to sync up with my PC. If I move any of the cables or phone, it will drop the connection. I tied several different cables and PC's so I ruled that out. The problem seems to be the USB port on the phone.
Its been almost a year since I've had this phone so I want to get that fixed. If I were to call AT&T and inform them of this would they replace the phone or would they fix the problem with the port and send me the phone back?

I'm not sure what your warranty is from AT&T, but HTC normally has a 15 month warranty on the device. Go through AT&T if you can first. The carriers will normally ship you a replacement device before you send yours in. HTC's repair process is generally very lengthy as they actually repair your device and then send it back to you rather than shipping you a refurbished unit like carriers normally do.
As far as it not connecting, try a different connection method like BirdieSync and Thunderbird. I use this combo on my PC (W7 Pro x64), and it works wonderfully every time.

HUGE security flaw

Anyone else uneasy that no matter what if someone finds your phone they can hook up to pc and have access to your internal storage?? Is there no way to change this and have a charge only option under usb?
If someone has your phone plugged into their computer, you either:
1) Are with them
2) Had your phone stolen.
If you have your phone stolen, there's nothing stopping them from battery pulling, going into recovery, and getting all your data from there (granted you're rooted).
Still ide rather not anyone including nosey friends get the pics of my ding dong off my phone with out my permission...
All kidding aside you see my point right
It's very simple, set a passcode and MTP does not show any data until the phone is unlocked.

I typically prefer nekkids of my gf on my phone vs sausage but to each their own
This is why you should likely have the ability to remote-wipe your device (via Software), and why you need to ponder very carefully what data you keep on your phone. The easiest way to avoid your friends finding pictures you'd rather they don't see is not to keep those pictures on your phone in the first place.
There are encryption-based Lockboxes which function on the Galaxy Nexus, and it does actually support Full-Disk encryption (with many bugs and downsides), but in short, you need to assume that anything on your phone is accessible to anybody who cares enough to take it from you. Remember, security never buys you safety against others getting your data, it just gives you time to respond before they can get access.
Wow how foolish of me. I totally didnt realize and i googled this an apparently no.one else did.either thanks

Seriously though the guy above is correct. Locked my phone, plugged in, and no data shows.until i swipe and enter pin
There are also apps you can download to lock certain apps you don't want opened. (Gallery for instance)
I agree though, the safest and best bet is to set a password on your phone and be done with it!

A setting for my Exchange server for my company that i work for reminds me each time setup my phone that they can remote wipe my phone. As can i From our Web Access portal for email. Just another option.
Will
Mine doesn't work that way.
I have a pattern set on my galaxy nexus. If I connect it to my computer the "internal storage" doesn't show up until I unlock the phone.
However, if you lost your phone, there are numerous ways to get your data. This applies to most phones out there
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
move the pics you don't want people to see into a hidden folder then they wont show up in the gallery
I have "gotya" installed. Not only will send me the gps location of my ohone command but also take a pic of the peraon using the phone when.an incorrect pin is entered. Screw wiping my phone ill just go get it myself

[Q] Data connection issues.

I bought my s3 in March of this year, and everything was working just fine until May. It's an awsome phone and I love it. However, since May, my phone no longer connects to 4g EVER and the 3g comes and goes and never stays connected for more than 10 minutes while in use. I've NEVER even come CLOSE to reaching my plans provided 2.5GB of data, so I know that's not the issue. The phone has never been dropped, or wet, as I am always very delicate with my phones. I have never placed it too close to the TV...
I contacted Boost mobile. They gave me a long list of things to try. I have tried EVERYTHING: making sure the mobile networks is checked, preferred network setting CDMA/LTE, soft reset, clear browser cache, update PRL, profile update, software update, firmware update, ##72786#, and even did a factory reset. Nothing helped. Boost said there was nothing else they could do for me, and that I needed to contact samsung.
Samsung said the only way for them to find the problem is for me to send them my phone, and wait 2 to 4 weeks for them to revise it and send it back. That's not an option as I need my phone monday through friday for my job. (UPDATE: I got so irritated with this problem that I went ahead and bought an LG Volt, since I didn't have the money to buy another galaxy. It's nice but I don't like it as much. I'm still afraid to send the Galaxy into Samsung. They have expressed to me that if they can't find an issue(just my luck), or if they find the issue to be my fault(IE I put the phone too close to a credit card magnet or some dumb crap like that), then they will charge me not only for the parts and labor, but for the return shipping... and we all know that they'll charge me way more than the phone is worth.
I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if there's anyway to fix it without having to send my phone in to samsung? I have been told, also, that I could try reflashing the phone to it's original firmware and software, but I am afraid of screwing the phone up since I've never done anything like that before.
Thanks!
First off, Welcome to the forms.
Secondly, you came to the right place. On this form you'll find crazy people like me who like to do custom flashing updating all the technical stuff. And then there's section of the form where people just want a normal phone and just want the basic troubleshooting tips. As with any user will have to search through the forms because there's a high likely chance that someone already has or had your issue just at different time.
There could be multiple reasons as to what you're experiencing. First off I think you should confirm and verify that you will do live in a good 3G or 4G location so that any further test can be actually validated. Secondly if you're not being able to connect to data it seems that you need to reactivate your phone by getting back on the boost/Sprint network. A full factory restore with data wipe and then updating over the air with firmware, PRL, reboot should work. Make sure you are set to use LET, under mobile data, and that you have enabled Automatic connections to the tower. Reactivate the phone again, if still not connected, reboot.
If you're still not having connection and I think you probably need to do a reflash via ODIN. This is pretty much what Samsung would do I'm except they have their own proprietary tools. Here on XDA we just have great developers.
Good luck.
Thanks button if this helped.

You could definitely flash the stock ROM and kernel to your phone via ODIN. However, the safest and most foolproof way to do this would be to download Samsung's KIES software here: http://www.samsung.com/ca/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/JSP
Once in KIES, you would plug in your phone to the USB port and, if needed, download any drivers for your phone. Then, you would follow this path: Tools --> Firmware Upgrade and Initilisation. This will give you a warning that you will lose all your stored data on the phone, and will offer you to make a backup -- a very limited backup -- of information on your phone. If you don't have any worthwhile information, I'd skip the backup and go right to stock ROM restore.
Hope this helps.
tO rcatank, I have already done all of those things. I have a new phone (which I don't like as much) that is connected to 4g almost always.

I download KIES onto my computer or the phone? The phone already has something called "KIES Air" on it, is that the same thing? And then one I download the KIES software and hook up my phone and go through the prompts you've provided, it does the rest itself?

No, Kies Air is not the same thing. To do a stock restore, you have to hook it up to Kies on your PC via USB. Follow the steps I showed you, follow the steps on the screen, and Kies will take care of the rest.

Ok, thanks very much! One more question though... does it matter that the galaxy is no longer activated? I mean, obviously to test it to see if it works I'd have to re-activate it. But for this process, does it need to be activated?

Without it being activated, I don't think you'll be able to receive data of any kind. In order to test 4G capabilities, you are probably going to need to reactivate.
But, to restore it via Kies, no activation is necessary.

[Resolved] Unable to connect OP3 to computer

Hello,
For the past few days, all of a sudden, I am unable to connect my One Plus 3 to any computer. Phone is running OOS 4.0.2, stock recovery, no root.
Tested in two systems running Windows 10, Kubuntu and Windows 7 in which I was able to connect and transfer files to and fro earlier.
The phone is getting charged when connected to computer.
USB debugging is enabled, drivers have been installed and reinstalled. When connected to computer, there is no notification in the notification shade or the status bar that the phone has been connected. so cannot pull down notification shade to change the connection type.
The system also does not recognise the phone and there is no information displayed about phone in the Windows Explorer side menu.
adb devices in normal mode and fastboot devices in bootloader mode do not throw any results at all.
Under Select USB configuration, toggling or cycling through the options (Charging, MTP, PTP etc) has no effect and it stays on Charging all the time.
I have checked with original data cable that came with my phone, with a micro usb cable attached with usb c adapter and also with another original cable borrowed from a colleague.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Buddy,
restart your phone, enable developer options, disable OEM unlocking and enable usb debugging. Connect your phone and choose 'transfer files' mode on the phone.
Go to My computer<My devices<MTP devices will show up<double click<update driver<choose install from system<install the MTP usb option and install driver.

Hello,
Thanks for your help.
I took this to the service center, where they diagnosed this as a mother board problem !!! Apparently due to rooting !!!!!!! Which would void the warranty !!!!!!!!!!!!!
After raising a stink, since the device was under warranty they accepted and replaced the mother board without any extra charge.
Funny enough that a representative of Oneplus himself concurred rooting will lead to mother board getting damaged and also about the warranty being voided if software was changed / altered!
anyways, phone is now getting connected . so problem solved.

This is a lie. Rooting can't damage the motherboard since much of your system actually has root capability. It's just that your apps have been denied.
Now, if you used root to overclock the cpu and turn off the hardware thermal throttling then, yes, but that's not from rooting, it's from being stupid.
Oneplus always allows rooting

Everyone PLEASE STOP TELLING PEOPLE TO ENABLE ADB when you have MTP problems. They are not related in any way. You do not need developer options to use MTP. Stay out of menu items you don't understand.
The most likely cause is that your Windows is confused. Plug your phone into a friend's Linux machine to see she the issue is at.

Of Course, I did know about that.
But the "Senior Tech" in the One Plus Experience Store insisted that the website explicitly informs rooting and unlocking bootloader will void warranty. He even went to the extent of opening said page to point out the fact. But the very first line in the web page was that the warranty will NOT be void !!
Next he tried dodging by saying that line was meant for OnePlus One and not for any other phones !!!!!
Only on further escalating the issue to the OnePlus Rep in the store, could I make any head way.
Again, the One Plus employee still toed the same line that the ambiguous lines were meant for the OPO and not for OP3, but he caved in to change the mother board.
All this leaves a bitter taste in the mouth for sure...........

Well, you have to remember that Oneplus is in China, and my guess you aren't nearly anywhere near China. There are idiots everywhere and I would have raised a huge scene. The problem is that you can't just take your business elsewhere, so you have no leverage and it's in their best interest to try and convince you to pay. It has been asked on the forums about rooting the Oneplus 3 and the official word from a Oneplus employee, not some stupid repair tech, was that rooting did not void the warranty, but if you send in a phone that was rooted, they would first determine if you did something to it as root that would screw it up (like disabling throttling) and if your actions as root damages the phone, it would not be covered by the warranty. Rooting doesn't void the warranty if the fault is Oneplus hardware.

Lol yeah dodged that bullet.
Well not only OnePlus, but it's just my opinion, I guess all service centre techs are of a similar mould... Get defensive right from get go, try to blame it on the user and get out of a sticky situation. There might be exceptions but the service centre guys for any electronic purchase i have made invariably have tried to blame me first for any service request !!

Well I'm from India (Bangalore, where we have the "Experience" store)
And of course beyond a limit where they started treating me like an idiot, I did have to behave like a .... Rhymes with "tick" and starts with a "D" to get the attention of someone higher up.
I'm yet to understand why this issue cropped all of a sudden. I did root the phone and install a custom ROM but after nougat went the stock route, which was what I tried explaining initially, that the phone worked normally for a while after installing stock but suddenly got weird, to the tech guys who of course ignored it... The hardware issue came up 'after' a while after installing stock nougat.
Another gem the one plus rep uttered which I had not mentioned earlier:
He acknowledged there is a problem in the motherboard,. Now get this: even though they (OnePlus) had a way of reverting the hardware changes made by using a specific software they were not authorised to give it to level 2 service tech. Hence they decided to change the motherboard !!!!
At this point I was too tired of OP guys' B.S. to even care and went along with it as long as my issue was cleared.

You should report this to Oneplus in China. Likely, the experience store is a contracted 3rd party and oneplus needs to set them straight.
And yes, hardware issues can sometimes take awhile to creep up. This is more common in Chinese parts, but that's how you get stuff cheap!

Hello,
For the past few days, all of a sudden, I am unable to connect my One Plus 3 to any computer.
Thanks.

This is not just a problem for OnePlus 3. It's a general bug for most Windows systems that have been updated. There's a very easy fix for this.
With your phone connected as MTP, navigate to this folder and locate this file
C:\Windows\INF\wpdmtp.inf
Right click on the "wpdmtp.inf" and click install.
Windows will detect your phone...
If I helped you don't forget to say thanks

Two things: read the post quoted by you carefully. No detection at all by PC leave alone as MTP. How do you want him to connect as MTP?
Second, read a couple of posts above. The OP's issue is resolved.
What you are talking about is a different issue.

Randomly unresponsive Samsung S10 plus

dear community
I bought a new S10 plus from a Hong Kong seller online, I had the initial screen greeting in traditional Chinese where I used my other phone to translate and chose English language (noticed that the device is probably a Taiwanese version)
First few hours were fine until June 2019 was installed.
Random unresponsiveness and strange behavior (Android status bar will pull down on its own, back and home virtual buttons do not work all the time, non responsive touch screen) This will go away if I lock then unlock and will come back again or sometimes not.
This became an annoyance as it will randomly either make the screen unresponsive or ultra responsive repeating my single touch commands which is a real pain, I hope you get the picture?
I decided to do a RESET, this all went well until it rebooted to a screen where it said something in traditional Chinese and a tick next to SIM1 (I forgot my UK sim card inside) so I clicked on next
it then rebooted and with a greeting in English!
here I went through the setting up and the wireless then it could not connect to Google (how bizarre)
I had to switch off Wifi to be able to get to final home screen, then I switched Wifi back on
Google services were installed however I was unable to add my Google account
also, the random unresponsiveness came back
I tried to hard reset, now without the sim card, same as above I could not add a Google account it does time out....
I can open a browser and open web pages no problem so there is internet connection
my main problem is that the device is not working properly and I cannot add a Google account
researched the forum and I though I might give it a try and re flash official firmware.
I made short videos of this strange behavior of the phone, where I will post them if needed.
My questions are :
would flashing an official firmware solve my problem?
which version I should flash, BRI (Taiwanese) or XEU (UK EU) ?
here is my SW ver.
SAOMC_SM-F975F_OXM_XEU_PP_0018
R58M36793AR
XEU/XEU,BRI/BRI
Many thanks for your advise!
Update:
I have flashed the OXM XEU version from this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/how-to/asba-official-stock-fw-update-odin-t3908710
Resolved:
I can now add a Google account, the problem was that I have to insert my SIM in order for this to work
Main problem:
random issues with screen and weird behavior: as I mentioned before, I get multiple registers for one touch which is extremely annoying when trying the simplest of text typing including typing wrong passwords!
the status bar is another annoyance which will drop down randomly and unexpectedly
current version:
G975FXXU2ASF3/G975FOXM2ASF3/G975FXXU2aASF3
SW ver.
SAOMC_SM-G975F_OXM_XEU_PP_0018
R58M36793AR
XEU/XEU,XEU/BRI
any ideas?

From the CSC OMC file of the UK rom get the .pit file via WinRAR.In odin put AP in AP slot,BL in BL slot,CP in CP slot and CSC in CSC slot(CSC not Homr_CSC).In pit section of Odin put the file which you got there.P.s. Use PatcheD Odin by 3B.
Hi ExtremeGrief
I did exactly what you suggested, used patched Odin by 3B from here and did extract the .pit file which in the ROM I chose reads:
BEYOND2LTE_EUR_OPEN.pit
ROM was loaded in 05:49 min/sec, however I still have the 2 issues:
1-upon fresh reset of android first setup screens will not progress to home screen unless I disable wifi (it will get stuck forever in the Checking Info screen), also I have to insert my SIM in order for me to add a Google account which is mad. so in the future if I sell my phone the next person will have hard time figuring out why they cant add google account!
2-crazy randomly popping up android status bar is back alongside with the unresponsive screen where it will get fix temporarily by pressing power button to lock then unlock, overall operation of the phone is a pain with constant random touch freezes
any other ideas on what is happening with this phone, is it hardware or software related?
shall I start RMA with the seller or try other fixes?
Are u charging ur mobile while using it??? When these touches appear?? Are you using a genuine charger... Dial *#0*# and go to touch from the menu... Swipe your finger through all the zones to check if touch panel is okay

no, I am not charging it while using it and the charger is a genuine one, I usually use wireless charging for my phones.
These random glitches in the status bar and unresponsive screen touch are random but they are noticeable and I have recorded a video of this strange behavior.
Now using this GSM test screen, there are no issues with the panel, all is registering okay and the weird part that the status bar is not acting crazy or showing up, also back/home buttons are working perfectly in this mode
any other ideas?
here are links for some videos I made to show the issues:
unresponsive screen video1
unresponsive screen video2
Status bar drops on its own!
these links are available for 6 days, I will refresh the links if necessary

Hi,next time you respond to my replies just quote me.Try to make the same thing that I told you to do before, but this time in Options tab in Odin 3B select:Nand Erase All,Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time.If this dors not work then it is a hardware problem but try this anyway.Maybe the seller that you bought the phone from put some malicious software on a hidden partition of the phone.Nand erase all wipes EVERY partition and writes it again.Hope this helps!

Did your try clearing your cache? Normally if your had reset then you won't have to do this... But try it and see.... Shutdown your phone then pressing bixby button + vol up + power until u see recovery then clear cache.
If it's still can't resolve then get help from samsung service center.

thank you for trying to help me.
this is the weirdest issue I had so far with any phone! seems that getting phones from another region and specially China is a journey into a dark tunnel!
I thought the same as you, maybe a malicious software, the phone was spanking new and it was sealed with a guarantee sticker, mind you if they can clone entire buildings they can do anything.
I have started an RMA process with the seller, whats funny is that their T&C state that they reserve the right to not honor the claim if its a firmware issue etc plus they would charge 10% off price for restocking fees.
Any other ideas from anyone?

I just called the service centre near to my city in the UK, basically what he said is that I can bring the phone for them to have a look at however it being made for another region (Hong Kong/Taiwan whatever) then the software he said or parts required are difficult to get hold of and he advised me to contact the seller.
he said that probably I locked the device by mistake if I cannot add Google account.
I am going to visit them (1:30 hour drive) now to see what they can make off it.
not sure what happened nor why this all happening, for my phone software is black magic, I can happily do tinker with PCs etc and even do some basic Linux etc, I am not entirely sure what is making this phone locked and how to get rid of this or even find out if any of the hardware elements is faulty.
latest update:
I spent 3 hours round trip by car and got to the official Samsung service centre, they checked my phone and said that it is very likely the phone is genuine (not sure why they are not 100% sure) and it is designated as shipping country: Taiwan with a model of SM-G975FCKGBRI, however the product date is 1/9/2015! compared to my aging genuine UK version S7 Edge which has a product date of 1/2/2016
when I said that the phone was new in case with a warranty sticker, he said that anyone can do this including Samsung where they refurbish phones and reseal them and apply the special silver warranty sticker and goes back into sale!
upon inspection he confirmed that the right middle section of the touch screen is faulty
what is more bizarre is that he managed to log into google using their wifi connection no problem.
lastly, he said I have two options + last resort:
1-they will repair this on my cost and it could take weeks or months to get the parts for this specific Taiwanese phone (I never heard of this before specially that digitizer is just a component)
2-return it to original seller for them to replace/repair or refund
3-call Samsung care UK and try to "convince" them to take this handset and repair it eventually FOC
Now, I don't know what the Hong Kong seller has done previously to this phone if they had unsealed it then applied a warranty sticker (says Samsung etc..), what I know for sure is that I resisted common sense and ordered this phone overseas to save few bucks
to summarize, I will give up and RMA this phone maybe the seller can replace/repair etc.
thanks all for your help

I just found out why I could not log into Google and the request was timing out!
I have my router at home setup with a DNS server of 9.9.9.9 (as I dont want Google to snoop over all my activity outside Chrome) therefore the phone was not able to connect to Google server for some bizarre reason even though my web browsers have no problem using Quad9 to resolve google services.
I set the DNS up back to 8.8.8.8 and now my phone can instantly log into google!
hope this helps someone who tinkers with their DNS settings on their routers
