Is there FM radio on the developer/unlocked versions? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does the developer/unlocked versions have FM radio?
I know the AT&T version does, because I saw it. I'm confused because some sites said it has FM radio and others are saying it does not.

I read too that there was no radio. To my suprise my carrier version (uk) had a radio which worked.

TuneIn is the future

i guess it varies. i just want to know if the developer/unlocked editions being sold on htc.com has the fm radio.

Yes, the DE and unlocked both have FM radio.

thanks! that's good 2 know

I got that from one of their reps guys, they've been wrong before. Still since they all have the radio and there is no gimped version where they might withhold it in an attempt to get you to buy up you gotta figure there is little reason not to include it. I'm off contract and went DE myself partly based on that information as I live in an area where data often doesn't work but FM is still there for you when when none of your MP3s are quite making you want to click play.

TuneIn is nice, but doesn't have a "output to speakers" (least not that I found) option like the "NextRadio" app that came on my Sprint M8. (idk about other carries) Makes good use of the speakers!

Verizon has been having FM permanently disabled on pretty much ALL their higher end phones the last few years. VZN has the ONLY M7 variant with FM antenna pin grounded.
GPE may have the hardware OK, but I don't think it would have an FM app, same as with the M7.
My FM apps are working on someone's rooted M8.
For my apps, root (and a kernel driver for FM) is likely needed; HTC "secured" their FM API on the M7 KitKat.

Verizon Touch Pro2 FM Radio HELP

Does this feature work on this phone? I'm getting no reception. Does this feature work on this phone if it's from a GSM phone carrier (e.g. TMobile)?
Thanks,
Pat

Yup, works just fine on my Tmo TP2. Do you have headphones plugged in?
As far as I know, the CDMA Touch Pro 2's (Verizon and Sprint) do not have the FM tuner hardware in them. Thats probably why you get no signal

FM Radio

Do these devices really have FM radio or is that another feature that was left out? Sites say that it does but I can't find an app for it and AT&T doesn't mention it.
many sites mention phone has "Radio with Stereo RDS".
But glide does not has Radio.
I also believed these sites ... and get disappointed that there is no FM Radio.

[Q] sprint

We dont know if there will be any real difference between the vzw and sprint one except for frequencies we know ..... Will the roms for vzw be able to be used for sprint if they are alike except for freq.... and sprint having google wallet enabled ... I am thinking of getting it since developement will be really good if you can use existing roms ... thanks for any replies

No, you cannot use existing ROMs. Sprint uses a weirdo RIL that makes it difficult the carrier difficult to program for.

if it is the same phone except for frequencies then the Radio interface layer should be the same should it not ? Sprint should have nothing to do with that as google is the one doing software for it not sprint

If the frequencies are different, the radio interface layer would be different because the radio will have to communicate with different frequencies.
It says here that the RIL is radio agnostic. I assume that would include frequency agnostic. I could be wrong because I had to Google just to figure out what a RIL was.

I believe there is something strange with Sprint's radios or RIL, I remember reading them being harder to code for as well. That could be because of that bum Wimax they were pushing though.

I am thinking that because there are only small freq changes that the roms here should work ... most problems i think were because of wimax and these phones are probably going to be identical .... i will try when i get it if it isnt too long ...

can i flash a T-mobile radio on a bell serviced phone?

i wanted to flash the latest radio ( .19 ) but that is for T-mobile, i was wondering if that would work for mine as well considering im with bell.
if not what is the latest radio i can use and where to find it
thanks in advanced
That radio (26.13.04.19) will work on all Desire-Z/G2 regardless if it was a Bell Desire-Z, or T-Mobile G2, or some other carrier of Desire-Z.
the T-Mobile Wifi Calling app on the other hand that requires that radio, will only work if you're a T-Mobile Subscriber, but you can still get the benefit of that radio firmware on any DZ/G2 (ie: better battery life, better GPS fix etc).

Performance depends on your geographical location, carrier, surroundings, etc. Sorry for the textbook answer, but you really have to try it to see if it works for you. you can switch back anytime.

FM Tuner

I've heard that the HTC One on other carriers has an FM Tuner app... would that work on the Verizon model or did they remove the hardware too? Anyone have a link to force install the apk if it does?
I have yet found an app that let the fm radio work on Verizon. All I get is static.

Broadcasters want their fm channels on cell phones badly. Verizon thinks they want them on cell phones so badly, they'll pay Verizon for it. Verizon likes money. So they're waiting for the check to come.
That's my theory anyway.

I'm pretty sure it's a hardware limitation...
The TuneIn radio app isn't an FM tuner, but I've found most of my local stations on it - both AM and FM - and it works decently enough

Hah, yeah. Knowing Verizon this is probably the most plausible theory. Ah well. Not a huge loss, but irritating to lose a feature because of the carrier.
