i wanted to flash the latest radio ( .19 ) but that is for T-mobile, i was wondering if that would work for mine as well considering im with bell.
if not what is the latest radio i can use and where to find it
thanks in advanced
That radio (26.13.04.19) will work on all Desire-Z/G2 regardless if it was a Bell Desire-Z, or T-Mobile G2, or some other carrier of Desire-Z.
the T-Mobile Wifi Calling app on the other hand that requires that radio, will only work if you're a T-Mobile Subscriber, but you can still get the benefit of that radio firmware on any DZ/G2 (ie: better battery life, better GPS fix etc).

Performance depends on your geographical location, carrier, surroundings, etc. Sorry for the textbook answer, but you really have to try it to see if it works for you. you can switch back anytime.

I am starting this thread because there are a few of us out there who are using our Diamonds in the USA. As such who has the 3G working with ATT? What Radio are you using? What cool cabs are you using? Cheers.

I have a Diamond on At&t network......ALL IS GOOD.....EVERYTHING!!!!!!
Peace

I just got mine, and it is working on phone on AT&T ... but I haven't tried data connections yet. (WiFi works great.)
(The thing is so feature-stuffed it's hard to take it all in!)
I'm trying to understand how to enable the 850Mhz band, which involves flashing a new ROM, I think. Right now it has 1.93.456.2 WWE
My understanding is that it wont do 3G in the USA, even with a new ROM.

That is correct. GSM 850/1900 work just fine, EDGE works. No 3G :-(
I have a diamond on AT&T and all is good except 3G data is not working only Edge. To enable the 850Mhz band you will need to flash the 0.5 Radio. Of course you also use any ROM of your choice but the only Radio that enables the 850Mhz band for now is the 0.5.
Hopefully someone will unlock the 850 3G for good.
im on att as well, im thinking of going diamond or touch pro. The 3g being activated for data is critical for me. Does anyone know for sure if the limitation is only software based, or is there hardware differences?

No confirmation either way on this. It's been asked (and awaiting an answer) by lots of people. It's the "$64K question".
So, right now, there are 2 Radio ROMs that support 850 Edge/GPRS/Voice. And 0 Radio ROMs that have been confirmed to support 850 3G.
I think we're all still also waiting for the Telstra Radio ROM dump that works on Telstra's NextG/3G network. Supposedly some "custom" .06 radio. Need to wait and see.
Just a gentle reminder: don't get Radio ROMs mixed up with the other OS/software ROMs. THey are independent of eachother. It's the Radio ROM that is needed that might make 850 3G a possibility.
I'm on AT&T in so cal and once I flashed the radio to .05 my edge reception was much better and more consistent. Still waiting on Telstra radio to see if 3g works
I have the 0.5 radio, and EDGE is working just fine for me in Pasadena, CA.
Just how much faster would 3G be as compared to EDGE, if it was enabled in the phone?
Is there a way to find out what frequency the radio is currently operating at?

My friend, not only 3G is ages faster than egde but also the quality of the calls are crip clear since the network/phone when switched to 3G will use a different codec when making a call thus calls are clear...
Hey guys, would you please be so kind and post in the appropriate categories. We are talking here about ROM development. So the forums are still overcrowded and filled with doubled information and useless posts. Let's try to keep this place as clean as we can.
Thanks
I have heard somewhere someone said this phone doesn't work in the UK, is this true?
Would root and custom ROM fix this?
Many thanks,

I could be wrong, but I don't know of a CDMA carrier in the UK. Without a CDMA carrier, you wouldn't be able to use the Incredible as a phone (WiFi would still work, as well as running other apps in Airplane mode). Whether you're rooted or not would be irrelevant, as the radio in the phone is what would be limiting you.
No sorry the incredible is only supported in the U.S. right now. Their is no Rom or hack that can fix this. This is a Verizon exclusive that only works in the U.S. it has to do with the network types. I would consider getting the HTC desire. If you were to buy the incredible their would be no way for you to get a wireless signal because Europe doesent support cdma technology. So the only way for you to use it would be if you were in the U.S.
Their is also no way you can hack the phone to run on a gsm network they use in Europe. Sorry. U should consider the HTC desire HD that should be out on European networks before the end of this year!!!!!
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Does this also mean that an US user with Incredible will not be able to use the phone whilst roaming in UK or any other countries without CDMA?
If this is true... LOL...
The phone is CDMA only. Doesn't support GSM which is almost exclusive in Europe.
everything but phone
So you could use the Incredible in the UK(less phone) and GPS, wi-fi, etc will work? Seeing how I'm going on vacation it will be a PLUS that the phone does not work.... Has anybody used the phones other features..say in London?

Don't LOL us! There aren't many countries outside of Western Europe that support only GSM technologies! Still, it would be nice if there were more phones from Verizon that supported CDMA and GSM, phones that weren't Blackberry Storms and other non-android doorstops

GPS (non-tower based at least) SHOULD work worldwide. Wi-fi is a toss up since UK uses different frequencies than the US. This is really why I'm hoping LTE will be adopted worldwide. The only thing that stands in it's way is WiMAX, but my hopes are LTE will become incredibly popular, and it's apparently easy enough to change WiMAX towers into LTE, so maybe Sprint/Clearwater could be forced into dumping WiMAX.
It's just time for a global standard (which for most of the world GSM is, but GSM has enough problems of it's own that we need new tech, and hopefully LTE will be it).
So I've been using an unlocked g2 on At&t for about a month now and I absolutely love it. I recently found out that the Desire z A7275 model will support At&t's 3g bands in the US. Because of the 3g compatibility, I am most likely going to switch.
I currently have my g2 temprooted and overclocked. This may be a silly question but...the change in band frequency on the Desire Z A7275 won't change anything as far as rooting, will it?
Thanks
Not at all. They are essentially the same device. Using an unlocked/unbranded NAM Desire Z myself on AT&T and have had no problems rooting, modding, etc.
I have the A7275 on AT&T also. Perm rooted (with SuperCID,S-Off) and overclocked no problem.
On a side note, the Bell stock ROM is missing HTC Locations and Car Panel. But I use Google Maps anyway, and I find the car panel to be kinda useless.
The Bell stock ROM comes with a good amount of bloatware. But I was able to remove most of it with Titanium Backup, and the rest with an app called Absolute System Root Tool.
You guys *should* be able to use a custom ROM like Virtuous to keep Sense but go with a more stock Sense ROM.
I thought about getting an AT&T one and staying with them, but their data network in my area is freakin awful. Been with them 10 years, since they were SouthwesternBellWireless, and finally switched to T-Mobile for the G2. My coverage isn't any better, but at least when my phone says '3G', I get 3G speeds. Plus it's ~$50/mo cheaper for 2 phones.
LOVE the G2/Desire Z tho.

Using custom ROM's isn't an issue. I am running Cyanogen 6.1 as I'm not a big fan of the Sense UI. Cyanogen's ROM feels much snappier on the device and is a cleaner, more basic look overall.
From my understanding, once you are Rooted and have S-OFF, any ROM that is compatible with the G2 will work with the Desire-Z. They did merge the two forums into one. These are the exact same devices, just with different band frequencies.
I know this is off topic, but as a former CSR for AT&T Mobility, I have absolutely no idea why you would go to such lengths to use their service. Is T-Mo just not available in your area?
Question, where did you guys get your A7275 from and for how much? I want one

Trust me, if I could get out of at&t's service I would. Unfortunately, I'm on a family plan with 4 lines. I havent upgraded in years, so technically, my contract is up. However, the rest of my family upgraded this past summer so I'm stuck with at&t for another 2 years. Early termination fees are too much and I can't afford to go pay for my own plan on another carrier. And, on top of that, T-mobile just arrived in my area and only has one or two towers.
Another question though: I've seen some unofficial alternate color schemes of the g2/desire z (black/blue). Does anyone know if there are any alternate versions of the 850/1900 3g desire z?

I think that black/blue one was a prototype or at least an early idea for the colour scheme. There's no news that I'm aware of on any alternate colour schemes at the moment.

T-Mob coverage has not been great in my area (although I haven't really investigated it too thoroughly in the last couple years). I also require international roaming service for work, and AT&T is the best for that.

I got mine from Negri. They were great. They have webchat feature, and the customer service rep was very helpful, and was able to confirm the phone was in stock. I got a shipment confirmation about 2 hours after I placed the order, and the phone was in my hands 2 days later.
Attached below are fastboot and CWM images for a new radio that I just extracted from the Telstra 4.01 -> 4.04 OTA that was released yesterday.
The radio is DVLF1 (I9250TDVLF1) and has not been seen before.
This radio is best suited to 850mhz 3G networks.

It's a Telstra radio, not the Telstra ROM. I've been yakju since day 1.. I flashed Telstra's ROM just to grab the new radio. DVKK6 has been awesome on Telstra, and the JB XXLF1 radio was terrible. Telstra users looking for the best radio may wish to try it, that is why.
Thanks for doing this!
So, just to confirm.. you're using this just fine with Jelly Bean?

You can find a backup here. Keep in mind that unless your carrier uses the 850MHz frequency, the stock JB radio might be better for you.

Telstra's network uses 850mhz so should be fine on that band. Personally I'd only recommend this radio for Australian Telstra users.

Yeah no worries. I had already ripped it but hadn't gotten around to posting it yet. Here's the RIL zipped, and also a flashable CWM zip.
MD5 for libsec-ril.so: C5F26C3D9AEB859CB7F8B17F1DFA45B2
MD5 for the CWM zip: 652F2DACB2D755840ADE251C32321C81
Based on that MD5, it looks like it's the same RIL as XXLA2.

The original Telstra radio DVKK6 is awesome on 850mhz and the jury is still out on whether this new radio is any better, so if you're happy with that.. I don't see any reason to change.
From 24 hours use, this new radio seems very similar to DVKK6 and is performing well.. but it's not like there is a massive performance difference.
living in Panama on Cable and Wireless (850),this radio is a big jump. Going from -85db to -53db, after flashing and reboot.
Thank you very much
I just installed this radio and now I can't send SMS .....but I'm not 100% sure I didn't mess with a setting with 4636....can someone help with setting etc? Telstra in Melbourne, if that makes a difference.
Back to XXLF1 for me...
Gave this a try on 4.1.1 (Bigxie) but the reception on 3G was at least 10dBm lower (97+ vs 80-) throughout my tests, and it never left "3G" mode. Never switched to "H." Transfer rates were much slower, too - barely 1Mbps down, 100K up. Minutes later, 1.8Mbps down and 1M up on XXLF1.
It DID boot in the correct mode though - WCDMA Preferred.
The "International" JB radio/RIL works better for me; never had an issue with it, so I'm back on it.
Note: I did change the RIL to match the radio, so maybe if someone else tries this radio on JB they should keep the JB RIL and see if it makes a difference. I am in a congested cell, btw.
YMMV.

I suspect you've changed something in the service menu. Your SMSC might be incorrect. Try the fix below.
Telstra's SMSC is+61418706700 which must be entered in PDU format:07911614786007F0
- Open dialer
- Type *#*#4636#*#* then click on 'phone information', then scroll down to 'SMSC'
- click 'refresh'. If it is not 07911614786007F0, type it in and click on 'update'.
- Reboot.

To keep things short, I'm a noob to most of the phone things. I have a HTC Google (T-mobile) G2 which is unlocked and has an AT&T Sim card. Right now it's running the Virtuous Quattro RC3 ROM. I did a full wipe of the phone and the ROM has been working great (despite the camera problems), but I noticed the phone would disconnect from the AT&T service every 10 mins or so. After using the phone all day I realized that everytime I unlock the phone, the phone disconnects from the service for about 1 min and then re-connects along with random times while I'm using the phone. I didn't have this problem with the last ROM (Virtuous Unity). But I know it's a problem with the phone because my house has perfect reception and I have never had a connection problem in the house. However, I do not know what could cause this problem and not sure if it is the Radio since I have read about alot of people talking about that. I have no idea what radio I'm using now and have no idea how to find it.
In addition, the phone cannot recognize my phone number in the settings and requires me to program the voicemail number (which of course I cannot figure out). Both of these were automatically recognized by my previous Virtuous Unity ROM.
Anyway, if someone could tell me what is causing this connection issue on my phone and how to fix it, I would be sooo grateful!
Please let me know if you need more information.

I just did and it works perfectly in an AT&T phone and an Unlocked Nokia phone.
Try a different ROM.
Thanks for the advice. I started downloading the Affinity ROM to fix the problem. Just really liked the interface for the Quattro, but the camera bugs are annoying anyway.
you do realize with a tmobile branded g2 you won't have the proper cellular bands for high speed data? also you will need to change the apn to get things working. but yes changing radios may solve the dropped service I just couldn't tell you what radio works best, maybe test a few out... but as always be extra careful when playing with firmware

I got this phone from a friend when I badly needed a phone, but now that I can invest in a new phone, would any non-AT&T phones allow me to have high speed data? I don't want to pay for the smartphone plans, so I need something that is unlocked to stay on the cheaper plan.
I have tried to do some research on radios before and was having a hard time, but I will look again since I like the Quattro ROM much more than any of the other ROMs I've tried.
some will work some won't, try a wesite called gsm arena, this will give you phone specific radio bands
