I am starting this thread because there are a few of us out there who are using our Diamonds in the USA. As such who has the 3G working with ATT? What Radio are you using? What cool cabs are you using? Cheers.

I just got mine, and it is working on phone on AT&T ... but I haven't tried data connections yet. (WiFi works great.)
(The thing is so feature-stuffed it's hard to take it all in!)
I'm trying to understand how to enable the 850Mhz band, which involves flashing a new ROM, I think. Right now it has 1.93.456.2 WWE
My understanding is that it wont do 3G in the USA, even with a new ROM.

That is correct. GSM 850/1900 work just fine, EDGE works. No 3G :-(
I have a diamond on AT&T and all is good except 3G data is not working only Edge. To enable the 850Mhz band you will need to flash the 0.5 Radio. Of course you also use any ROM of your choice but the only Radio that enables the 850Mhz band for now is the 0.5.
Hopefully someone will unlock the 850 3G for good.
im on att as well, im thinking of going diamond or touch pro. The 3g being activated for data is critical for me. Does anyone know for sure if the limitation is only software based, or is there hardware differences?

No confirmation either way on this. It's been asked (and awaiting an answer) by lots of people. It's the "$64K question".
So, right now, there are 2 Radio ROMs that support 850 Edge/GPRS/Voice. And 0 Radio ROMs that have been confirmed to support 850 3G.
I think we're all still also waiting for the Telstra Radio ROM dump that works on Telstra's NextG/3G network. Supposedly some "custom" .06 radio. Need to wait and see.
Just a gentle reminder: don't get Radio ROMs mixed up with the other OS/software ROMs. THey are independent of eachother. It's the Radio ROM that is needed that might make 850 3G a possibility.
I'm on AT&T in so cal and once I flashed the radio to .05 my edge reception was much better and more consistent. Still waiting on Telstra radio to see if 3g works

My friend, not only 3G is ages faster than egde but also the quality of the calls are crip clear since the network/phone when switched to 3G will use a different codec when making a call thus calls are clear...

um... first of all, if you own a TP2, then you own a version that doesn't support US 3g.
Second.... wel no thats pretty much it.. sorry man.. If you want 3g speeds, you have to wait for AT&T to release their version of the TP2 (called the Fortress). As it is now, any TP2 that is unlocked is limited to Edge speeds. Sucks i know, but thats how it is Unless AT&T is in Europe and uses different bands for 3g over there that im not aware of.

Was a very good replacement for my Sedna
My available WCDMA bands are:
GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(900+2100)
GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)
UMTS(2100+800)
Which is kinda funny because my Sedna will do 3G on the GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850) and this Touch Pro 2 will not.

tha tis because its radio doesnt actually have those available. it may list them but they are not available. you cant always trust the interface. this has been the case with the TP1,Diamond 1, TP2 and the HD
TP2 supports 900/2100 UMTS band and missing the 1900 (Reason why I didn't get TD2 or TP2). I have an Xperia X1i which supports the 1900 band and it works with ATT 3G flawlessly

Umm, correct me if Im wrong but wont the particular touch pro 2 you have never support att's 3g? I think if you want an touch pro 2 that works with their 3g you have to buy the one branded for them dont you?

currently yes. Thats not to say someone will not figure out how to get the bands enabled but so far the efforts for the TP1 and the HD have not proven successful (last i heard). If someone firgures out how to enable them (if even possible) i believe this community would put some money in their hands me included

No the bands just arent there. I've been a helper monkey for testing the US 3g capabilities of TP1 and helping with hacking attempts on it and trust me its not happening and I'll bet same on TP2
So I finally called ATT and got the subsidy unlock code for my Tilt2.
I popped in a Tmobile sim and it instantly works fine in every function except the connections speed. I am getting Edge only.
My question is, Can this be improved by the addition of a more recent radio? Or am I stuck with Edge due to the hardware in the ATT version of the phone?
I haven't played with this phone for almost a year except for a week in December or so when I reflashed to FireStorm 7.4 while my Captivate had crapped out. So I am kinda out of the loop on this. I was told the Captivate can't run Tmobile 3G no matter what radio I run. But I was hoping since the Tilt2 has been out so long someone might have figure out something. I see the FM radio was worked out after we thought it was impossible.
My rom and radio for the Tilt2 are in my signature. Any hope of updating it for 3G speeds?
It's by hardware. I have both phones as well due to that scenario.

Tmobile offers 3G on 1700 MGHZ and ATT is on 850 or 1900. The ATT phone does not have 1700, so there is no hope of your device working on TMO 3G in the Americas.
Edge is all you will get, as TMO still has the quad band GSM capability.

It still seems odd that even by flashing a new radio it wont work. I have digital radio equipment (scanners, Ham Radio) that has huge bandwidth and I would think that modern cell phones would have the same capability. But obviously it doesnt work.
Do the international versiopns of the phone have the extended frequency range capability or is it still the same problem?
The manufacturers are too cheap to enable all the frequency bands.
Actually I suspect there is a setting hidden somewhere in the radio's NVRAM that can change the available frequencies, but nobody has found it. The chipset is the same across most of these models, and obviously the radio's antennas work across all the frequencies (since they already do for 2G). And as one obvious example, the Samsung Vibrant (which was T-Mobile only) can have its radio software-unlocked to work with other 3G frequencies.

Interesting. My other phone is a Captivate, which is pretty much the same as the Vibrant. I have been looking into a dual Sim adapter to run both my ATT and TMO sims in the same phone. I was told the Captivate cannot run on the TMO 3G frequencies. I will have to look into this further. That is very good information. Thanks.

I know where that setting is but the limitation seems to be in hardware.
either that, or there is a lot more hacking required than just changing the NV setting.
Hey, care to share? Can this setting be toggled using e.g. AT+HTC_DM? Is it a no-op or is there any visible effect from changing it?

There isn't a forum for the lte version so I'm asking the question here. Does anyone know if the AT&T version will use the same sim as the note2? I want to switch the sim between devices when I drive. A portable inet enabled nav system for my car.
Yes, it takes a micro sim. Same as the note II. Will come with a "warm sim" installed to support session based (prepaid) pricing as well.
update: I just swapped mine out and it won't latch in place... not sim related, as none of my sims snap in. Silly spring loaded sim slots......

Weird. Do you think no microsim will fit? If it did, do you think you could use it as a giant phone on your car dash? It would be perfect as an internet connected car navigation replacement.
They fit perfectly. I just have one unit where the latch mechanism is messed up.
As far as the usage described... the AT&T variant does not function as a phone as configured. It is considered a connected tablet and no voice services are included in the stock software. That said, it makes a hell of a navi. You just wont be making standard cellular calls from it as well.

That's too bad. I was hoping I wouldn't have to tether my gs4 to the tablet and use Skype and google voice with it maybe ill just wait for that Sony Xperia z ultra as my next phone. The note2 wasn't big enough to use effectively from my dash.

You would be able to use skype if you have a data plan active on the Note 8.0. It is LTE and working great for me for 3 days now. Of course it would need its own data plan, or if you are on a Mobile Share plan it is only 10 bux to add to your existing data bucket. Not bad imho.

What service provider are you using for your LTE?
Interesting. I had the HK LTE version, and its SIM slot failed - not a latching problem - just started telling me the SIM card wasn't there after a couple of days.

As for same size (micro) yes. As for functioning...NO!! The Note 8 LTE will only function on data based sim cards. Such as a mobile Wi-Fi hot spot sim card.

Are you sure a regular voice/data SIM won't just work for data only in the device? I really makes me angry that AT&T has all the phone stuff taken out. I want a tablet that I can use as a phone also. I may just buy the international version and not worry about LTE.

Nope. You can't even root it yet. No one has bothered to find an exploit since so few people actually own an AT&T version right now. haha Even if it achieves wider adoption, let's be honest...tablets with cell connections are usually frowned upon by the XDA and other dev-friendly communities. They'll always be treated as second-class citizens around here because they have no hipster cred 'round these parts. If we were with the in crowd, we'd buy a WiFI-only model and just tether it to our phones. :silly: A lot of people in these communities just see absolutely no point to, and thus thumb their nose at, a tablet with an LTE connection. You can give them reason after reason why they're useful, but it falls on deaf ears more times than not.
Don't expect ROMs or root for the AT&T model until there are more people that actually own one.

If you want it from the horse's mouth call AT&T store. As for me I went with the 5100 international version.

Truth. We all have our reasons which I'm sure is similar to each others. I don't want to drain my phone battery and subsidiary prices are nice too

The rep at my store said that I could change the sim over to a voice plan any time I want but it will cost more per month. $10 for the data only plan compared to $25 for the voice/data plan (like any other device). I don't see a point in spending the money until somebody figures out how to get calls working. He also said that the sim would still work in the tab after changing to a voice plan. The question is: is the hardware capable of supporting voice calls? If so, then I'm confident that somebody will figure out how fairly quickly.

No. The AT&T SGH-I467 model does not have the phone hardware and therefore is incapable of making calls. Look at a picture of the international 3G model and compare it to a picture of the AT&T model. You'll notice the AT&T model doesn't have an earpiece at the top like the international model does. You can use the AT&T model to make calls via VoIP services like Skype, but if you want to make calls over a cell network, you're out of luck. If that's a feature that you really, really need, then you'll have to buy an international unlocked 3G model.
As a side note, the official Samsung flip cover for the Note 8.0 is designed to fit all models worldwide. This means it has a cutout in the top for the earpiece that you find on the international 3G model. It looks a little hokey when you put it on the AT&T or WiFi-only models since there's nothing there to plug that hole.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. By hardware I meant the radio side of things. I agree that the microphone and speaker are definately not configured for calls. Are you saying that you have reason to beleive that it is impossible to develop a way to place calls via bluetooth headset?

Yes, people have tried to place calls and send native text messages. It appears that there is no usable radio hardware inside the device other than that which is required for data.
Now, it's possible that the hardware IS there but the baseband firmware simply disables it, but there's no proof of that. Unless we could hack the radio firmware somehow (not likely) or do a teardown of the tablet, we'll never know for 100% sure. But, as things sit right now, you will neither be able to make phone calls of any kind, nor be able to send native text messages to or from the tablet, at all with an SGH-I467 AT&T model because either there's no radio hardware or the I467UAMDF radio software has disabled the phone hardware entirely.
Hi. I purchased the Pro.8.4 for $350 at Best Buy. Apparently they only sell the WiFi version. I noticed that you can get the LTE version on Expansys for about $450. Anybody in the US buy the LTE version? What carrier you using and how is it working out. Is it worth the extra $100 to you? Thanks!

I bought the T325 and I am using it on AT&T. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the correct LTE bands for the U.S., so the best it can get is H+ which is 3g. Having said that, I don't have LTE where I live but I get 14Mbps on H+ so I'm not missing the LTE at home. I travel a lot and most of the places I go to have 3g speeds between 3-6Mbps so it does ok (a lot better than hotel wifi).
The thing to consider is that on AT&T, and I'm assuming t-Mobile as well, the T325 shows up as a cell phone so it will require a full cell phone sim. A data-only sim won't activate. I also had to tweak the APN to get a solid connection.
All said, I'm very happy with the T325 and I use it as my daily phone/tablet.

I can confirm what flymacs wrote. It doesn't support LTE in US. I'm using AT&T as well and I've confirmed there is LTE coverage where I'm at from other AT&T users but I only connect to H+ (3G).
Not a real problem for me as I'm a light data user and I knew going in that LTE was a long shot.

The SM-T325 is the Cellular/International/Non-U.S. LTE version. The SM-T320 is the wifi only version. The T325 has a earpiece just like all cell phones. You can make/answer calls simply by holding it up to your ear like any other cell phone. Granted, it may look silly holding this size of a device next to your head. I use both a wired earbud and a bluetooth headset.
Phone quality and reception is very good. In fact the audio quality of the T325 is better than most of the devices I've used. The only minor issue I have is my work apps don't scale very well to the high ppi of the screen. But that is not the phone's fault.
