[Q] Palm Resting, Using S-Pen? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

So I'm currently on an AOSP ROM, coming from TouchWiz. I'm trying to get full functionality from the S-Pen for AOSP and for the most part I have found replacent applications that do just as good, if not better than TouchWiz. My only complaint with AOSP thus far, and I'm looking if there is a workaround for this, I'm familiar with Palm Rejection, basically only allowing the S-Pen to interact with the screen. I'm looking to be able to rest my hand on the screen while writing. Currently with Palm Rejection apps, it won't allow my Stylus to draw while my Pen is touching the screen, likewise, if the app doesn't have Palm Rejection, it will delete the writing once my hand is taken off the screen.
TL;DR - Is there a way to rest my hand on my screen and write with the S-pen?

Does anyone have a solution or know if this is possible with AOSP roms?

[q]cm10 for our note's?

Will it ever come to our device?
I come from international note 1 forums where cm10 was plentiful lol! Nah for-real though.I read around a lot and from what I gathered its gonna be near impossible till Samsung releases a proper source code... smh... correct me if I'm wrong.
I thought cm 10 was basically jb and jb is what our phone has. . And does man or hasn't even been a week yet and yet we are already rooted and have several custom roms to choose from.

There a couple of threads going about this on the international forums - In a nutshell, the official maintainers of exynos devices are fed up with Samsung's lack of release proper source. Until that happens, the best we can expect is a port/KANG.
Here's one particular thread where Entropy weighs in on his thoughts:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1941039
There's another one buried in the International general forums but I can't seem to find it at the moment.
EDIT - I don't know why you'd want AOSP on this phone, though. It's so buttery smooth and Touchwiz adds a lot of benefits on this phone - even more so when the Multiview patch gets pushed to us. I'd just wait for an AOSP theme and just flash that.
In answer to your question..

As someone who's come from AOSP I can't see why anyone would keep this nonsense on the phone any longer than necessary. The calendar is a prime example IMHO- other the gimmicky S-Pen notes on a picture of the calendar, the calendar doesn't separate Sync and display like CM- so I can't keep track of what my wife is up to without having to see all her appointments. The screen palm/capture thing is also tied to media hub and the rest of the (as far as I can tell ) completely useless bloatware (samsung suggest? tied to yahoo? Please.). I can't figure out how to change the toggles on the notification bar (please, please tell me there's a way to put whatever you want like sound in there as a toggle).. Wifi tether or the lack of it is another issue. Then there's the amaturish and completely annoying startup and shutdown sounds. Really, you have to disturb a meeting to shut down your phone? There's no over/under clocking except via the somewhat vague "battery optimization". Rooting and Nova has taken care of my major launcher problems. I guess I might miss S-beam unless CM ports it but honestly, I've found it extremely tedious to use IRL and not encountered anyone else who uses it has outside of the two hipsters near the apple line and the oh-so-sweet wife of the traveler.
I can't wait for CM10 so we can get Paranoid Android! It would be nice to have the status bar on the bottom within reach. I'm going to try to patiently wait it out and let the N2 price drop. My local Sprint stores are sold out anyways.

I much prefer Cm 10 as well but if it doesn't use the Spen then I'm gonna stick with touchwiz. Never thought I'd say that but I use the pen more than the keyboard by far now that I'm getting used to it. I just want a dark theme doesn't even have to be AOSP just not cartoony & imbelIished

Been playing the the N2 and the S-pen. It would be nice to have the on-screen navigation buttons. I keep trying to press the back and home buttons with the pen!

you can still use the Spen with CM10 i use it on the galaxy note 10.1 you just can't use the samsung apps like Snote, however there are many alternates that you can use that perform the same functions in the play store. so cm10 is definitely something worthwhile on these note devices if you are an aosp fan.
I want a nice stable version of MIUI and I'll be a happy camper. Keyword is STABLE...so I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Nice. Now if only it was possible to shrink the buttons down a bit, add the search button, and only have them pop up when the s-pen is out it'd be perfect

If you're rooted, try and app called "Button Savior (Root)"
You can toggle the buttons with a click of an on screen button.
Been using this for the past few days and I love it.
Thanks epicnoob66 and CECHOI for the tips.
Still can't wait for CM10 and PA. PA has the best boot animations.

I also miss being able to kill apps with the back button.
+1 for CM10. I really hate all the gimmicky crap on touchwiz, I still have my GSIII which is running CM10 and it is so much nicer. It also made the GSIII faster so I don't see how the same wouldn't apply to the Note2 (although it is plenty fast as is), it has to, all the stock roms that include touchwiz are upwards of 700MB and CM10 is about 150MB, that's a lot of bloat

Stock option just press the S-Pen button and draw a "less than" symbol "<" on the screen and that's your back function.
Also for menu just hold the S-Pen button and draw a "^" symbol and that's your menu command.
Good stuff! Is there a a gesture for Home? I find it tricky to press the Home button with the pen.
I saw the samsung galaxy note2 n7100 has begun getting nighltlies. Does that mean we will get it soon?

[Q] S-Pen detection on non Touchwiz ROMs

Hey
I have paranoid android installed on my note 2 and I'm incredibly happy with it. One thing I miss from touchwiz is the S-Pen integration.
In particular when writing in an app like papyrus or lecture notes it won't disable finger input when using the s-pen. Lecture notes detects the pen and hover works fine but as soon as a finger touches the screen then the s-pen is disabled. It makes writing quite difficult because you can't rest your hand on the screen.
Does anyone know a way around this? Or a fix that can be applied to a non touchwiz based ROM like paranoid android?
Cheers

I don't think it possible, at least for now. From what I read, S-Pen features needs Touchwiz framework, so as long as it's non-Samsung rom, no luck. I'm also using PA (3+).
Ah that's a shame. Thanks for that. The benefits of PA far outweigh these little things though.

Spen to finger touch.

I have been using the note series from the Note2. One thing that always annoys me. Is apps and games that wont work with the spen. I understand that touch and the pen are effectively different inputs. Meaning a dev has to account for the spen specifically in his code. So im asking, has anyone come across an app that while active, mirrors the spen inputs to the normal touch ones.
It seems simple to a non dev like me, and would enable the spen for all apps. A tasker trigger based on the open apps to enable / disable and job done.
Anyone come across anything like this?
What apps and games don't work with the SPen? I just played Defense Zone 3 for an hour using only the SPen, and use it in other apps all the time. In fact, I can't recall a single time it didn't work in an app. It acts just like a stylus.
Of the current ones I'm playing. Dont starve pocket edition, FF Mobius and Randalls Monday. Don't starve is crying it for it. Over the years there are always a few at any given time.

devs don't need to specifically support it at all.
they can request "touches" from android, and it will respond the same way for mouse, finger, and stylus.
the problem is devs that refuse to trust android's answer, and instead request touches directly from the capacitive sensor(and sometimes they mess up completely, and only request from the S-pen sensor)
pokemon go and the world ends with you both have this issue too(but twewy only in battles)
So an xposed module to spoof touch events as coming from the capacitive sensor. Could that work?

Im determined to keep this phone... Looking to "upgrade" it in certain ways

But ive heard that earlier versions of android can be security risks... is that true? What if you never do anything critical like banking on your phone?
Ive been toying with the idea of trying a custom rom (that someone else already built lol), but, i absolutely despise the standard android toggles that are only like 3 per row and take up the whole screen. theyre massive. i LOVE how the stock touchwiz keeps everything all on the one screen in the notification drawer. Are there any roms that use this same compact design? without having the 2 screens?
ive also been toying with trying to add ram using a partitioned SD card. but i have a few quesitons about that too. first being that ive heard that you cant access your SD card by computer anymore.... so with that being the case, how do you go about backing up the data on your SD card just in case the card fails? has anyone done this successfully with this phone?
i love the small physical size of this phone, i have small hands. and newer phones, much like roller coasters, are shooting for the biggest tallest on the market it seems. im an ambidextrous swiper so even to smoosh the keyboard to one side is a pain... id be forever going into settings to switch sides. i have a tablet i do this with, its quite irritating. but the glide i can reach using either hand on full width for the keyboard. and once in a while, i do still use the physical keys
oh! also... i have played with an S5 mini (but a fake i suspect)... my captivate glide does certain things, like greenify apps, faster... for it being newer and higher ram (a bit) it doesnt seem all that... higher. so at least for the time being, im going to stick with my good ol captivate glide. the s5's haptic feedback is lousy too and thats become a feature that i just cant live without (for swipe and typing especially, but i like it for the touch buttons too). also not a fan at all of the tiles for notifications, i much prefer just having the icon up in the corner. and my screen lock does something the new one doesnt... it doesnt instantly require your pattern again even though you did power the screen off with the button. so many little things, i just LOVE about captivate glide.
Ive rambled a little but i hope anyone who has tried can point me to the best rom, if im not best off with sticking with stock touchwiz, which is what ive done until now.
if anyone still also using this phone has any tips that would be great
I'm also determined to keep it, but primary because of the hardware keyboard, which you seemingly are not using?
If you have become accustomed to your current setup, bear with it as long as you can. Yes custom ROMs are fun and glorious, but flashing and configuring can be a PITA and it doesn't sound you're the tech-savy nerd willing to fight it through.
So just go on & stick with the stock ROM. However if you can, do not use the internal stock browser but a recent Chrome version because of the security fixes it will contain.

Samsung S Pen Features on Note 2 Custom ROM

I installed Xenon HD based Custom ROM for Nougat 7.1.2 on my Note 2 without thinking about what happens to S-Pen and the apps that it use like S-Note. But I am liking the phone after I installed this.
Hence thought I will check if there is a way I can use S-Pen and the associated apps on this Custom ROM.
Any help or, information would be highly appreciated.
I really liked the S-Note app and would like to use it or, something like it.
for note taking i currently use "Squid - Take Notes & Markup PDFs" it has some inapp purchases but the basic stuff is available for free.
But pretty much any note taking app should have support for the spen, at least the bigger ones (EverNote and such, but i never used them)
Then there are options like SPenCommand and NoteBuddy (not sure if it works on Nougat)
My preferred App for Stylus gestures is GMD SPen Control but sadly it seems that app is no longer maintained and does not work on Nougat

The problem with most of the notes app is that there is no handwriting recognition and hence S-Pen pretty much becomes useless. That is one of the reasons for my displeasure.
I would like to use the features of S-Pen. And there were a lot of my notes in S-Note which is something I haven't been able to recover or, use now.
SPencommand and Notebuddy doesn't seem to be working on Nougat.
SPencommand definitely does, i tried it for a short period but ended up getting a refund because it does not support custom gestures.
Oh i thought you meant just scribbling down some notes, i never used the recognition feature to turn it into actual text.
As far as i know there is no way to run the Samsung apps on AOSP or import data from them.
But i personally never used them, maybe someone else has some ideas.

Yeah, you are right. I tried a few others including SPenCommand. But nothing worked until now. Looks like I have to finally convince myself of letting it go..
