Hey
I have paranoid android installed on my note 2 and I'm incredibly happy with it. One thing I miss from touchwiz is the S-Pen integration.
In particular when writing in an app like papyrus or lecture notes it won't disable finger input when using the s-pen. Lecture notes detects the pen and hover works fine but as soon as a finger touches the screen then the s-pen is disabled. It makes writing quite difficult because you can't rest your hand on the screen.
Does anyone know a way around this? Or a fix that can be applied to a non touchwiz based ROM like paranoid android?
Cheers

I don't think it possible, at least for now. From what I read, S-Pen features needs Touchwiz framework, so as long as it's non-Samsung rom, no luck. I'm also using PA (3+).
Ah that's a shame. Thanks for that. The benefits of PA far outweigh these little things though.

Hi, I've been really keen to get a note 2 for all that stylus goodness, other phones are pretty much all the same now. I would need to mod it a bit to be happy though - I really want onscreen nav keys like the nexus so I can use the stylus.
I've seen some people saying that the space taken up by the buttons interferes with app layouts - is this only an issue with stock touchwiz apps like the launcher, which presumably is hardcoded to the stock size? I'll be using Nova or something anyway, but I'll definitely keep touch wiz apps that use the pen well. Has anyone got any experience with this?
Thanks!
You could try PieControl or Lmt launcher which add a hotspot triggered pie menu (like the quick controls in stock browser).
IMHO these are better than nexus style onscreen softkeys since they don't take up space hence no compatibility issues.
Both apps are free and highly customizable. PieControl is on play store, lmt is on xda.
Should also mention that for any solution, adding menu or back commands will require root.

Have just this second stumbled on lmt - it looks amazing, much better than risking compatibility issues! Does it work well on the note 2?
If so I'll probably use that and maybe turn off the capacitive key lights.
Thanks!
I've been using lmt for a while now and it works great.
Disclaimer: I'm not rooted so I don't have the back button. Some people mentioned on the forum that it was laggy, but it seems to be a galaxy nexus issue. Note 2 is more powerful and shouldn't have any problems

Also do you have any idea on how I can set the pie to actually appear permanently on the home screen? I just like the way it looks.

I'm having problems with the handwriting on my Note 10.1 (P-600 rooted). When using the handwriting, sometimes the word recognition font is huge causing me to over-write the word and cause errors. Other time the font is the normal size and all is well. This behavior is not predictable. It happens no matter what applications I'm using. The behavior is the same using either the included s-pen or my Bamboo Feel. Samsung customer support had me factory reset the device and that didn't help at all. Has anyone else had this issue and can give me some insight?

Just downloaded it and it seems like just what I need. My only use for the Sammy KB was the handwriting. I use Swype any other time. Thanks for telling me about it! This app also solves the problem of the Sammy KB constantly switching back to the touch keypad when I press the enter key!! This looks like an all around winner for heavy s-pen users like me.
I'd recommend using SPenBoard Switcher (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46236231), to have Stylus beta with S Pen and any other keyboard without.

The only problem with that is that I never use the included s-pen. I purchased a Bamboo feel for my first generation Note 10.1 and I still use it on my new Note 10.1 with no problem. I think I have only used the included spen 3 times.
So I'm currently on an AOSP ROM, coming from TouchWiz. I'm trying to get full functionality from the S-Pen for AOSP and for the most part I have found replacent applications that do just as good, if not better than TouchWiz. My only complaint with AOSP thus far, and I'm looking if there is a workaround for this, I'm familiar with Palm Rejection, basically only allowing the S-Pen to interact with the screen. I'm looking to be able to rest my hand on the screen while writing. Currently with Palm Rejection apps, it won't allow my Stylus to draw while my Pen is touching the screen, likewise, if the app doesn't have Palm Rejection, it will delete the writing once my hand is taken off the screen.
TL;DR - Is there a way to rest my hand on my screen and write with the S-pen?
Does anyone have a solution or know if this is possible with AOSP roms?

Have you tried MyScripts Notes Mobile?
I'm currently running PACROM nightlies. Is there a way to install SNOTE back on my note 2 running pacrom? From what I have read it will need touchwiz to run. Can anyone point me in the right direction, I haven't found much searching.

Nope.
Being in the same boat, I use Handy Note Pro. A utility that is all around superior to S-Note in every way shape and form when combined with CM-SPen Addon and Note Buddy. All are on Play.
No. You read correctly. Most Samsung apps require TW to install and function. You will have to decide between custom AOSP or touch Wiz... one or the other. I have the same dilemma as a lot of others do. Torn between TW apps/keyboard vs AOSP.

At this point there is nothing that Note 2 TouchWiz has that hasn't been ported over into an app for AOSP.
Kii keyboard has all the features of the TW keyboard and more...and is configurable how you like.
I installed Xenon HD based Custom ROM for Nougat 7.1.2 on my Note 2 without thinking about what happens to S-Pen and the apps that it use like S-Note. But I am liking the phone after I installed this.
Hence thought I will check if there is a way I can use S-Pen and the associated apps on this Custom ROM.
Any help or, information would be highly appreciated.
I really liked the S-Note app and would like to use it or, something like it.
for note taking i currently use "Squid - Take Notes & Markup PDFs" it has some inapp purchases but the basic stuff is available for free.
But pretty much any note taking app should have support for the spen, at least the bigger ones (EverNote and such, but i never used them)
Then there are options like SPenCommand and NoteBuddy (not sure if it works on Nougat)
My preferred App for Stylus gestures is GMD SPen Control but sadly it seems that app is no longer maintained and does not work on Nougat

The problem with most of the notes app is that there is no handwriting recognition and hence S-Pen pretty much becomes useless. That is one of the reasons for my displeasure.
I would like to use the features of S-Pen. And there were a lot of my notes in S-Note which is something I haven't been able to recover or, use now.
SPencommand and Notebuddy doesn't seem to be working on Nougat.
SPencommand definitely does, i tried it for a short period but ended up getting a refund because it does not support custom gestures.
Oh i thought you meant just scribbling down some notes, i never used the recognition feature to turn it into actual text.
As far as i know there is no way to run the Samsung apps on AOSP or import data from them.
But i personally never used them, maybe someone else has some ideas.

Yeah, you are right. I tried a few others including SPenCommand. But nothing worked until now. Looks like I have to finally convince myself of letting it go..
