How do I downgrade 4.3 to 4.2.2? 4.3 has alot of problems, wifi keeps dropping. I am using Rochester Institute of Technologys internet. How would I do that?
Thanks
Tmobile Galaxy s4, m919
I don't think you can due to knox.
With the newer MK2 bootloader and knox people seem to report bricks when attepting.
You might want to root, flash the older modems and see if that makes a difference.
I ran a 4.3 custom rom with 4.2 modems and bootloader without issues for the most part.

You need to go to http://SamMobile.com and download the
official stock M919 MDL firmware for your phone.
After doing that go into recovery mode and do a factory reset.
Once that's done you need to Odin flash the stock MDL firmware.
After doing that your phone will be 4.2.2 stock.
It will need to be re-rooted if you want root access and you will also need
to flash the custom cwm/twrp recovery if you want.
Good luck!

I got it. It's all good now.
All I did was, Root it, then flash CR, then flash MDL bootloader. Then restored it.
RanbirS, did you have stock 4.3 when you restored back to 4.22?
Thanks
my replacement phone came with 4.3 and its not letting me flash the the official 4.2.2 fw. any thoughts?

i tried flashing the 4.2.2 official tar with odin and apparently have brisked the phone. It now wants me to connect it to kies but its not doing anything. :/

As for your root problem, try asking this in the i9500 specific forum. Our devices are sufficiently different that what works for ours won't work for yours.
As far as downgrading, you're probably out of luck like every other S4 owner in existence.

yes it downgraded the bootloader, the modem didnt take though, the bst dongle is a phone service box. and it allowed the downgrade. i was able to get the wireless back after i upgraded to the next firmware version. i dont have the s4 any more but i wanted to try it because everyone said it could not be done. and i did it. with a service box.

Ok, here are the prerequisites for not getting the KNOX POX:
#1: Don't allow the flashing of the M919 MK2 4.3 OTA update
#2: Don't Odin flash the official stock M919 MK2 4.3 TAR firmware. (SamMobile or elsewhere)
#3: Don't Odin flash the M919 MK2 4.3 NON-HLOS.BIN
#4: Don't Odin flash any bootloaders
If you have NOT done either one of those four things you will NOT catch the KNOX.
You can Odin flash the 4.3 M919 MK2 MODEM but it is completely optional.
See which one has the best signal for you.
( or keep the M919 MDL MODEM which is already in your phones.)
The phone will work just fine with either the MK2 modem or the MDL.
You can flash any cwm/twrp flashable M919 MK2 4.3 or MDL 4.2.2 zip file stock or custom roms.
If you follow these rules above you will not loose audio, signal or wifi and you will not catch KNOX POX.
Now that's not too difficult to understand right? LOL
Good luck!
Not difficult to understand at all. Thanks. I tried looking for this info on my own, but I couldn't find it.

In addition to the poster above, another way to look at it if you are simply trying to avoid getting it without messing around much:
SAFE:
1) Any ROM that is flashable THROUGH CWM/TWRP/PhilZ won't include an updated bootloader. You can install 4.3 or 4.4 and still keep your bootloader and/or baseband (i.e, MDL, MDB).
UNSAFE:
1) If you ODIN flash (meaning you plug your cable into your phone, start up Odin, put your phone in download mode, then PDA a stock FW), you WILL get the KNOX bootloader.
2) If you update through KIES.
3) If you update through the OTA (in Settings -> About Device -> Software update) .
Some people believe if you trip knox then you will void your 1 year samsung warranty. I dont think it's been confirmed. And i dont think it would matter to me since it's such a short warranty and it doesnt cover accidental damage
Ok, well I've actually updated my phone through kies (4.3) the same day it was released but I was losing signal way too often so I used my 4. 2 back up and restored it... But my flash counter was 6 so I odined and did a reset on the flash counter and then used infamous (4.3) and I'm still on MDL so how do I know if I have knox?

If you updated your phone using Kies/OTA or Odin flashed the official 4.3
firmware then you definitely caught the knox pox.
The way to tell if you have knox is to put your phone into download mode and
look at the top left side of the screen where you will see tiny blue writing.
You will see the knox status as either 0x0 or 0x1 if its 1 you have knox.
There is nothing you can do about it at the present time.
A lot of the developers are trying to over come the knox issue but so far no luck.
Even with the KNOX you can use your phone just like if it did not have the knox.
You can download and flash any cwm/twrp flashable custom/stock zip file roms
as well as any of the themes, mods and anything else requiring cwm/twrp flashing.
You can even odin flash the 4.3 official stock M919 rom from SamMobile
and it will work just fine. However you will still have KNOX.
KNOX is just another way for Samsung retailers to know if you have
messed around with your phone and gives them a good enough reason
why not to honor the warranty.
Good luck!
Well I went into download mode and I did not see any blue writing but I did see this in white: 0x30

Take in count that by flashing the MK2 stock tar you will end up with the knox bootloader. If you trip the knox flag you will not be entitled to warranty work. If that does not matter to you, then go ahead and flash ;b
Your best bet to prevent this is to get a stock rom cwm flashable that does not include the bootloader.
thanks everyone.
just so i'm clear (i already soft bricked my phone), you all suggest getting the cwm stock rom and update my modem first?

Hi guys,
I have two T-mobile galaxy s4 M919, one is on MDL firmware and the other is on MK2 firmware.
Here is a few question I really need your wisdom and suggestion.
1. For the MDL firmware, I have simunlocked and rooted it. Also installed TWRP.
Now I am loooking to install the Omega kitkat rom v30. In its installation instruction it requires as following:
Flash the new bootloder and modems with odin
Bootloader -> BL_I9505XXUFNAD_481100_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI_C ERT.tar.md5
If you already have the new Kit Kat bootloader there is no need to flash it again.
Modems XXUFNC9 -> I9505XXUFNC9_GSM_LTE_Modems.tar
My questions are :
1). Do I need to update my t-mobile bootloader? ( I know should use t-mobile ones). I know if updated could not go back.
2). I thinks I need to install a kitkat modem, which one should I use? Or I should just flash the KT-SGS4 - MJ5 kernel ?
3). If I just want to flash the Insane rom, do I also need to flash bootloader and flash NB4 modem?
Now is questions for the other phone.
2. For the phone with MK2 firnware s4 ( this is another Phone!), I have been following this guide to sim unlock it :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2654058
I am downloding files now. just want to make sure
1) do I need to odin back to 4.3 after my phone is unlocke with old MDL system.
2) if I want to install 4.4 roms, what should I do ?
Thank you for any of your suggestion or ideas.

OK. For the MDL phone you should only update your modem unless you want Knox. I see that the files you have chosen are for th I9505. You should never flash international Bootloader or modem or you will brick the phone. So just flash the nb4 modem and flash a KitKat ROM so you can keep your warranty.
Now for the 4.3 phone. All you have to do is root it and flash the nb4 modem or you can flash the full firmware. Either way will work for you since you already have Knox it doesn't really matter.

Hello
I have SGH-M919. First, it had stock ROM, stock firmware, and it was SIM locked to T-Mobile, so I unlocked it with SRS server service (I live outside the US, so labs in my area didn't have the tools to unlock it, since it's only a US variant. Also, other methods of unlocking did not work for me, unfortunately).
In the unlocking process I had to flash custom modem file with Odin (it was required for SRS to work). After that, I flashed CWM and CM11 and everything worked fine except the GPS. It didn't work: no GPS satellites were found.
How can I resolve this issue? Thanks.
Go to the CyanogenMob forum. There are threads asking the same question regarding CM11

Just flash the stock modem since you said it was modified, unless its still needed.. However, many users have lost GPS after flashing aosp/cm.. The fix is simple. First make a nandroid backup, flash a touchwiz ROM, get a GPS lock, and then restore your nandroid.

Sorry, forgot to mention that I already tried flashing stock rom but GPS didn't work (it did work before the unlocking), so it has to be a modem problem. I couldn't find a stock modem file anywhere.
Currently I'm downloading another stock ROM, so I will be able to bring up lbstestmode which might fix my issue.
EDIT:
The new stock ROM works fine, and the GPS was able to find signal. So, I as ou suggested and recovered the Nandroid I made before through the recovery, but now I can't find GPS again. What can I do?

Still, the MK2 firmware just works better for me.
Also, if I can't flash the fixed NB4 firmware because the bootloader has Knox, how will it help me if I install the non-fixed version (which is included in the firmware)? I'd be stuck with the bad NB4! There's no way to install the fixed NB4 if I have bootloader with Knox, if I understand this whole thing correctly.
P.S I am not intending to argue or anything, I am just writing what happened to me. So, if someone has the same problem and he googles it he will be able to find some useful info that took me about 2 days to find (and your generous help in this thread, of course!

The firmware will flash with your bootloader.. anyway everything is working for you so there is no need to. If in the future you change your mind or have problems PM me and I will explain or help you with it

Sent from my SGH-M919 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I noticed that I was getting bad cellular reception in an area that should have full mobile coverage. So I flashed the 4.4.2 fixed BN4 modem and the reception is way better (from one bar to 3 or 4), and the GPS is still working.
So, the BN4 modem did flash although I have bootloader with Knox (so it isn't supposed to work according the the modem thread)
P.S. I'm quite confused. Sorry for the noob question, but what's the difference between ROM and firmware? Is the firmware just a package which includes the ROM, bootloader and modem?
