Hello
I have SGH-M919. First, it had stock ROM, stock firmware, and it was SIM locked to T-Mobile, so I unlocked it with SRS server service (I live outside the US, so labs in my area didn't have the tools to unlock it, since it's only a US variant. Also, other methods of unlocking did not work for me, unfortunately).
In the unlocking process I had to flash custom modem file with Odin (it was required for SRS to work). After that, I flashed CWM and CM11 and everything worked fine except the GPS. It didn't work: no GPS satellites were found.
How can I resolve this issue? Thanks.
Go to the CyanogenMob forum. There are threads asking the same question regarding CM11

I will try there, thanks. Although I have to mention that I think that's the problem isn't with CM but the modem file/kernel/etc

If it might be the modem or kernel then you can try re flashing the modem or trying a new kernel. You'll see a lot of GPS issues being asked about in the CM threads, tho.

Just flash the stock modem since you said it was modified, unless its still needed.. However, many users have lost GPS after flashing aosp/cm.. The fix is simple. First make a nandroid backup, flash a touchwiz ROM, get a GPS lock, and then restore your nandroid.

Sorry, forgot to mention that I already tried flashing stock rom but GPS didn't work (it did work before the unlocking), so it has to be a modem problem. I couldn't find a stock modem file anywhere.
Currently I'm downloading another stock ROM, so I will be able to bring up lbstestmode which might fix my issue.
EDIT:
The new stock ROM works fine, and the GPS was able to find signal. So, I as ou suggested and recovered the Nandroid I made before through the recovery, but now I can't find GPS again. What can I do?
NB4 modem is posted in the general section

Is this a permanent fix for GPS?

I have searched for stock modem and found this.
Unfortunately, I do have a KNOX counter in download mode so it doesn't fit.
This guide links to another modem file (that works with the KNOX bootloader), but it is for MK2, and I need BN4.. What can I do?
EDIT:
The issue is FIXED! The GPS works perfectly! Ultimately, I did install the MK2 modem and although I have 4.4.2 BN4 it works just fine.
Thanks for everyone who helped me.

I don't think I should, I have a bootloader with Knox (it was stated that it's only good for 4.2.2 bootloaders - ones without Knox. That's why I installed the MK2.

Still, the MK2 firmware just works better for me.
Also, if I can't flash the fixed NB4 firmware because the bootloader has Knox, how will it help me if I install the non-fixed version (which is included in the firmware)? I'd be stuck with the bad NB4! There's no way to install the fixed NB4 if I have bootloader with Knox, if I understand this whole thing correctly.
P.S I am not intending to argue or anything, I am just writing what happened to me. So, if someone has the same problem and he googles it he will be able to find some useful info that took me about 2 days to find (and your generous help in this thread, of course!

I noticed that I was getting bad cellular reception in an area that should have full mobile coverage. So I flashed the 4.4.2 fixed BN4 modem and the reception is way better (from one bar to 3 or 4), and the GPS is still working.
So, the BN4 modem did flash although I have bootloader with Knox (so it isn't supposed to work according the the modem thread)
P.S. I'm quite confused. Sorry for the noob question, but what's the difference between ROM and firmware? Is the firmware just a package which includes the ROM, bootloader and modem?

Hello,
Just thought I would post this for you T999v users out there.
It's the 4.3 update now available on kies.
Proceed with caution like us with the T999. You'll have to deal with Knox and root issues in sure.
Not sure what the differences are between the T999 and the T999v update if any besides the corresponding files needed for that phone.
Anyways, here's the Samsung link

Nice. Come on Samsung, let's keep this rolling. My T999L still hasn't been updated to 4.3.
FYI, you can use Mobile Odin to flash only the modem and then use one of the T-mobile roms. This way you can bypass Knox.
Just load the file in mobile odin. Then tap all the partitions except for the modem and select clear to ensure they don't get flashed

is 4.3 modem different from 4.2.2?
i dont understand why there was no need of flashing modem when moving from a 4.2.2 custom rom to a 4.3 one?

T999V 4.3 Rom!
For any who are interested, here is a deodexed, Knox Free 4.3 Rom built from Wind's MK5 firmware! I am fairly certain that all the Canadian carriers roms will be very closely related, and anyone can flash this if they so choose. It should work on the T999 and T999L as well, provided you have the correct modem for your model. Anyway, I hope some of you find it useful!
Warning: I currently do not have a phone and so I cannot test this. I am confident it will work as expected, but I make no guarantees. Flash at your own risk!
If you do try this Rom out, please let me know if WiFi is working or not. If not, flashing the AT&T kernel should fix this. Also, let me know if you have updated to 4.3 by flashing the OTA or official firmware.
Enjoy!

same here Doc i flashed the file then flashed the mk4 modem in twrp. everything showed successful but it keeps boot looping.

Hi xda, I hope your Friday is going well.
EDIT: My calling problem was not fixed. I reflashed 4.4.2 NB4 Modem (twice to make sure it stuck) and the calling still does not work. Did something just completely fry when I had CM11 on this thing? Any ideas anybody? I don't even hear a dial tone if I am the one dialing out, the call still goes through though.
Everything below was my original post which has been resolved, didn't want to start a new thread though.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TL;DR: My T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4 (SGH-M919) is unable to boot stock rom, and I am unable to enter recovery. I get seandroid messages trying to do either. Fortunately, the phone can enter download mode. What do I need to do or flash to get this phone booting again? Thank you in advance for taking the time to read and help out.
Below is the long story with details:
1. The phone was given to me running stock Android/TouchWiz. Unfortunately, I do not know what version but I assume it was whatever was the latest version as of late April.
2. I rooted the phone using Odin and CF Auto Root.
3. I created a backup of this newly rooted stock rom.
4. I flashed Cyanogenmod 11
5. After a while I discovered that I could answer calls but I could not hear nor be heard during the call.
6. I restored to the stock rom using the backup I made in step 3.
7. The calling issue continued, so I figured I would just unroot and go back to like-new factory settings. This way I could take the phone in to be repaired or whatever.
8. Following this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2336392, I attempted to flash k0nane's UVUAMDL Official Tar
9. Odin got stuck connecting to my device, I believe it was because I did not run Odin as admin. I pulled the battery and repeated this step while running Odin as admin.
10. The flash was successful, however during the phone's first boot it got stuck on the T-Mobile splash screen for about 30 minutes or so. I pulled the battery again.
11. Anytime I put the battery back in the phone, it will attempt to boot and hang at the T-Mobile screen, I believe this is a boot loop?
Looking online, people suggest going into recovery and wiping but I cannot enter recovery. I just get the seandroid not enforcing messages. I'm very hesitant to keep looking through the forums and trying things because I feel like I'm on the edge of bricking the phone if I haven't already.
I don't think the flash was successful because it wouldn't give you those messages, and you would need to flash either 4.3 or 4.4.2 not 4.2.2 (MDL) Try flashing a newer firmware version.. If it was updated to the newest then I would try 4.4.2

This is where I obtained the rom above that I wasn't sure was the newest.
I flashed this rom and everything worked, thank you both.
Any ideas on what happened with the phone call issue? My friend that gave me the phone said it was working just fine when she had it, so I assume somehow the rooting or CM11 screwed something up? Weirdly, calling through WiFi works just fine.

The only thing that can foul up your phone like that would be a bad cm flash or preflash, it's super important to read and read again, check the thread for support from members and resolutions to problems before you consider the build for your phone. Ask questions and double check everything before you take the plunge.
I assume that the calling problem is fixed, a corrupt modem may cause that and re flashing the modem will correct this.

I flashed both Fenny's firmware and a baseband he also provided. Did both twice, and calls are still not working.
I was doing some research on this whole "Radio: Unknown" thing and I started seeing threads talking about flashes corrupting the phone's EFS partition. I never made a backup of mine, so I have nothing to restore to. Is it possible that I could use someone else's EFS backup and then use it to restore my phone's EFS partition? Does it work like that?

Flashing modems and such with a custom rom installed often fails. Did you try doing a restore to full stock using Odin?
It sounds like the phoen has Android 4.4 on it already so you will need to flash the full 4.4 package (can't go back to 4.3 or 4.2)
Try and, boot hte phoen without modifying it, and see if calls work then.
The EFS thing is about the IMEI number. Does your device show an IMEI number in settings? If it does, your EFS isn't the problem. If it doesn't....well then yeah. Problem is pretty much narrowed down.

I have restored the phone to full stock and have been using it that way since I started this thread. Everything is just like fresh from the factory (except for the knox counter being tripped obviously). Calls still didn't work. An IMEI number still shows up the phone's settings. Using WiFi calling hasn't been that bad at all, but I'm screwed in the case of a real emergency with this thing.

Download the Google Specific No SSL version (first download link). Flash that in recovery. See if that helps.
If it doesn't, try the next one, the Google specific one with SSL
If that doesn't work, look further down the list and use the one specific to your carrier.
If that doesn't work...I dunno.
You will likely have to flash this again when you update the ROM. But no big deal. You can do it in recovery right after you flash the ROM update.

Download the Google Specific No SSL version (first download link). Flash that in recovery. See if that helps.
If it doesn't, try the next one, the Google specific one with SSL
If that doesn't work, look further down the list and use the one specific to your carrier.

I tried installing the 4.3 modem.bin still no go...
Haha. I just flashed a ROM and now my gps is gone. Any updates on this? Or should we just switch to a TW rom?

Yep. @kiruba8 is right. You have to delete the GPS cached data and give it some time and it will fix itself.

That was extraordinarily uncalled for.
I pointed to to where I had laid on detailed instructions on what you shoudl try first.
Why you are resorting to name calling because of it is beyond me. Good luck fixing your problem.....on your own.

Hi,
So here's what I've done.
First Im pretty sure its related to the modem or radio? is it the same? I remember flashing a 4.3 rom from 4.2 and the network wasnt working so I had to flash a md5 modem.
Now I tried flashing official 4.2.2
No go.
Upgrading official to 4.3
No go
Upgrading official to 4.4
No go
Now I'm back on CM 11 because I like the rom.
I don't know what to do next...

If you have flashed official firmware then it is not radio/modem related. It would be hardware related. This is the reason I stay away from CM. It works perfect while you use it but once you go back to TW it causes conflicts for me most of the time. I have used GPS status and cleared the cached GPS data and downloaded the GPS data and it fixes itself within minutes. I also have at least 2 users that had your same issue use the app and followed the instructions and confirmed the method to be working. I believe that CM leaves remnants of the system that cause a conflict with any other system. I had a full wipe file in my extsd but deleted it somehow. I can't remember where I got it from but it does wonders. It wipes everything and prevents leftover crap from the previous ROM or system so there is no conflicts. For example there is a folder in my internal SD called wicked ROM that I cannot delete for the life of me! The only way that I could get rid of it would be going back to stock or flashing the full wipe zip that I no longer have because I lost it. Anyway I will try to find this zip and share with you and you can flash you ROM after. Hopefully it will work for ya.

i actually used shiamatsu's method of going from the MDL modem to the NB4 modem.
so i cannot revert back to the MDL modem even if i were to flash the MDL modem via odin?
i cannot revert back to older modems via odin if i were to say flash an international modem like the XXUFNB8 or XXUFNB9 modem for the I9505?
can i flash those international modems on my t-mo s 4 to fix wifi issues i'm having?

Modems you can. But thats not whats posted. If you flash full nb4 firmware with its bootloader. You can not downgrade.
i9505 modems you can't flash. They'll be rejected and fail. Ive actually forced them to flash and lost all service.

I flashed the C-Rom found in one of the threads on this forum for the t-mo s 4.
However, my wifi is now wonky and it doesn't log into or accept my wifi login details or allow me to connect to wifi
so i was thinking since it is an international rom, i might try to flash an international modem to try and fix the wi fi issue.

Na not at all. Doesn't matter what you're running, will erase all of whatever rom youre running and install the firmware. Recovery, roms, kernels, etc dont matter at all. You may have to wipe data and cache in recovery after you flash it for it to boot tho which is common no matter what you're running.

About the know counter, my first s4 with TMobile got broke and replaced, and they didn't even bother checking the counter, when I first went with T Mobile even asked, they said if I rooted the phone it voided the software warranty and the phones software was my responsibility..........uh..........OK... Confirm the model number in download mode, then do a google search for the appropriate firmware, extract the modem, and flash it?
I'm not sure but you maybe able to use other m919 roms for extract the modem to unlock the phone.

After downgrading the modem, I always recommend reflashing the latest rom from sammobile.com in Odin followed by a full wipe in stock recovery.

Both have the same files.
1. Unzip and flash 4.2.2 modem with Odin(CP Button).
2. Open RegionLockAway and follow the instructions.
3. Once RegionLockAway finish flash 4.4.4 modem.
It's better if you're in stock(if you wanna be sure nothing happens).
