[Q] Fastest Android 4.4.X ROM n Galaxy Nexus? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys, so I've been using CM11 M4 on my Galaxy Nexus and its smooth but it gets the hiccup lags a lot nowadays and every time I wipe the phone it works buttery smooth but then a few days later it lags again. I'm also running Franco's kernel @1.2Ghz on both cores. I've tried other kernels but Franco's is the best experience for me right now. So if anyone has ROM suggestions and its a Kit Kat ROM, I'd be great to have recommendations for ROMs. Thanks.

Another thread asking for ROM preferences?
Speed and battery life depends heavily on how you use the device, and from that perspective, you're better off trying the ROMs that you think might be fast and see for yourself. I always stick to CM nightlies + Franco @ 1.5GHz and my GNex runs fast enough for a WiFi hotspot session

Try Paranoid Android with their stock kernel. It has some tweaks from Franko. Use also lag fix and Greenify

I know what you mean - having tried a few different ROMS in the past on my gnexus it always seemed to get a little chuggy after a short while. I researched a tonne a while back and apparently it's a TRIM issue (which was also apparently addressed in 4.3). I haven't had too many problems in a while but I do find that Facebook Messenger will choke now and again.
I've also used lagfix - seemed to work a treat. ---> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grilledmonkey.lagfix
Have you tried different launchers?

Try Remix ROM, it's fast and stable.

Try Setting CPU speed
I tried many roms but they all were same and some of them were laggy and buggy...
Then i again installed cynogenmod and i changed the cpu speed to min 1600 and max 1600 so that it always stays at max speed and it was lightning fast 0.0

Your battery would also drain lightning fast

anything that isn't 4.3 roms will fly on gnex
I had major ram leakage on most 4.3 roms, causing SERIOUS lag after couple hrs on.
installed commotio last night, all is well again. I don't use carrier network anymore, and have three batteries(used to have four lol, one took a dump) so I oc to1.8ghz (no uv..no point imho) and it is stable for me.
it's fast enough even at 1.2 but I like big numbers so oh well lol

Lean kernel vs Franco kernel

Which one do u perfer guys ? Both are awesone and cant make a decision Battery life ? Hotplug efficiency? Performance ?

I'm getting crazy good battery life and performance on lean kernel and AOKP. Franco is good too, but I think I'm getting much better battery life on lean.
Each phone is different find out your preference on your own

James Bond kernel.
I've seen what franco has done with the nexus s kernel, realiable, smooth, and constant updates, it was always my choice. So as soon as i get my GN its the first kernel i'm going to flash and hopefully it won't ever disappoint
same for me. I have a freaking good battery life on lean but better performance with Franco

I've tried both for a great while. Battery life with interactivex on lean and hotplug on franco lean is definitely better, on my phone Lean runs a little bit better. on my phone.

its Imoseyon kernel on Rootzwiki. btw, Ive tried both Lean and Franco kernel, I still prefer Ezekeel Glados kernel though. amazing smooth and friendly battery life.
I was using franco's kernel, but with all the hourly updates lately, it spooked me a little, so now Im on trinity inferno512 kernel, and wow games run fluid with the GPU at 512mhz.
im still debating... im jumping back and forth but i need to stick to one for a week and try it out!
leankernel has updates just as much as franco... i say thats a good thing
i say take a week long test and run some benchmarks with each of those kernels, take a screenshot, and come back with what you like.
Im working on that now.
GLaDOS is by far the best kernel for my phone. No lags whatsoever and four hours of screen on time with the stock battery
I'm starting to lean toward glados myself. I've had a lot of issues with Franco's 14.x kernels.
I've also found lean kernel to be a bit choppy. Shadow gun runs really choppy w lean kernel, but ultra smooth w either Franco and glados. It could be that I'm not using the correct governor though.
I have tried both back and forth. AS of last update I've tried franco 14.4 (deep sleep ~50%) which is good but has a much better battery life (deep sleep at 91%) on hotplug of lean 1.8.0.
+1 for lean
I have used lean kernel for a while now. I used to get lots of lock screen lag with Franco. Which I don't with lean.

Im on Leankernel 1.7.3 right now. Used Francos way before, but after Version 13.1 i started to get battery drain issues. So i switched over to Glados which seemed to have a good battery life to me, but was very choppy overall on Wheatley Gov'.
Lean is the best for me at the moment, almost 4 Hours Screen on time isnt a problem for me, i use the build in InteractiveX Governour, with some heavy undervolting. Data, Sync, Wifi , ... everything enabled. Screen Brightness ~ 35%
I gonna try Lean 1.8.0 Later that day. But i have to admit that Franco's next upcoming with Turtle Governor might be an interessting choice either.
For me, both devs are doing a really great job, both Kernels are good.
I've used three different Franco kernels and had freezing and reboot issues with all three of them. Never had an issue with Lean Kernel.
I don't care what kernel I have. If:
1.At the end of the day on my normal usage phone has less than 60% of battery left it means that the next day I won't manage
2. I have less than 60% I have to recharge overnight
3. Phone can get me throughout the day on heavy usage ...
Don't need any fancy kernels if they don't tick the first box
Edit:
Just tried lean kernel and its way to slow. Scrolling in text app or anywhere really isn't even half as smooth as Franco ....

After trying many kernels... I always come back to Faux123's kernel (Currently 011b10u). It's just such great battery life... idle battery drain is just a horizontal line on the battery graph for hours. LOVE IT. (P.S. Ultra-liquid-smoothness too). http://rootzwiki.com/topic/12512-kernelgn-lte3017ics4023uvgpucpu-occifsslqbotgfiopsv010jan-17/page__st__930

AOKP with franco kernel

So I've been using aokp for months now and franco's kernel even longer. both amazing pieces of work. franco's kernel has been 99 percent stable for me, with an occasional sod with a few builds here and there (nothing a full wipe can't fix). However after my last sod, I kept getting forced reboots upon startup so I just flashed the newest version of aokp and it's been working fine as expected.
my question is, can you guys tell me exactly all the advantages of using franco's kernel with this rom as opposed to the stock? even after using it all this time (since early December) I guess I haven't noticed any significant differences. maybe I haven't paid enough attention because so far this stock kernel in aokp seems to be handling everything just fine. thanks in advance

Ok..., let's give it a try:
Franco's latest (nightly) kernel has (in contrary to stock AOKP kernel):
Sound Control (in latest builds from Ezeechiel (is that the correct way you write his name?))
GPU overclock
HotPlug for disabeling 1 CPU whith screen lock
USB Fast Charge enabeled
Wifi Power Management for better WiFi reception on screen lock
Color control.
I'm sure I forgot some settings.
Right now I get about 1% of battery usage in 2 hours when idle with data on (not Wifi), maybe 10 - 20 % with screen on (depending reception, what I do etc.) and I never have reached such figures with stock. I would for sure recommend Franco's kernel but a lot depends on your preferences. For me long lasting battery is important so I go easy on the clock speeds of the CPU.
thanks. that's the kind of information I was looking for. I don't feel the need to overclock but if there really is a good improvement in battery life, that's reason enough

My Galaxy Nexus hardware is crap; help me work around it!

OK, the long and short of it is - this GNexus is unstable even at stock clock speeds. It reboots periodically (this is true on stock JB and CM10).
On CM10, I've managed to get logcats (which reveal nothing consistent), but more usefully (maybe) is last_kmesg. It tells me:
Unhandled fault: imprecise external abort
So - can somebody tell me a way to make this device more stable? I am pondering underclocking. Or changing the governor. Or changing the voltage (although, I don't know which way to go: up or down!).
I guess I'm looking for whatever tricks overclockers would use to increase stability - except, leaving it at the stock clock speed

Well. If you get reboots , increase the voltages by 25 mv. See if that helps.
Sent from my trasbeaned Galaxy Nexus.
The lower voltages allow less use of battery, but if they are too low (reboot, freeze), you should increase it a little
If you're having reboot issues even on stock, it sounds like a hardware issue and needs to be replaced.

I don't have 400 bucks lying around, hence my desire for a way to make this one just suck less
I'll try the voltage increase to see if that improves anything. Is there a recommended app for doing this?

Cm10 has the option in "performance" settings to change your voltages

Switch to the Team EOS rom (nightly or stable) , use the latest Franco Kernel(latest) with gpu at 384 and finally underclock to 1ghz instead of the stock 1.2. I am currently using the dyninteractive governor.
I experience less heat, way fewer reboots, better 4g, things are still snappy and you can still speed up animations to .5x the speed in developer options. Oh and the extra battery life is nice.
Someone also recommended using only one band with WiFi. I use 2.4 only. It can be found in the advanced setting in wireless.

Manufacturer warranty, insurance. Your carrier should be willing to swap the phones out especially if you just got it. Running jbsourcery 2.3.6 and Franco milestone. I've had a total of 4 reboot period on this device since it was debuted.

It would reboot by itself when it became too warm. Franco's lastest 282 kernel seems to have solve this heat/self reboot issue for me. I can use 1.3 ghz without a problem. I couldn't do the stock 1.2ghz on the stock kernel without it rebooting by itself. It is also super smooth and fast.

How are the Custom Roms for HOX?

Hey guys!
I am thinking about buying this phone and want to know how the Roms are for this phone? Are there bugs? Well working cm10.1 is very important for me!!
Scan through the original android development and android development sections.
Cm-10.1 is stable as a mountain!! Also our AOSP and AOKP builds are in really good state and in active development.

How is gaming performance? Is the battery ok?
I guess it's OK. At least nfs most wanted runs well.
You can't however get gaming performance and good battery life at the same time.
If you don't play a lot, you can squeeze maybe 4 hours of screen time.

most hox i have seen only get between 2 - 3 hours, i get 4 -5 with a custom kernel and i've tweaked it alot.
the JB custom kernels have a GPU clock of 520 MHz stock (why it is from HTC) is 416 MHz, you can also OC the RAM from 667 to 800 MHz.
but like said more to overclock the faster the battery goes.
TBH i used to disable 2 cores and run it with stock 416 GPU and it was smooth as butter.
I gave up trying to put CM10.1 on my HOX custom boot.img and all that.
Been using IceColdJelly for the last couple of weeks and it has to be the nicest rom I have ever used, even after CM10 and Android Revolution HD.
Hi guys,
I'm fairly new to HOX custom ROMs having switched over from my Nexus One last month, which would be the recommended ROMs to check out? Just unlocked my bootloader and contemplating the various ROMs and could use some input here. It would be nice to have some of the Sense 5 stuff too if there're any with em...
Oh and how do I get photosphere functionality on my HOX?
Thanks in advance!
On stock AOSP with single core 1.5ghz and Xperia Z launcher. Smooth as butter and no lags at all. Very slight random stutter in games. Getting about 3.5-5 hours of screen time depending on usage but mostly around 4.5 hours

Maximum performance on nexus 7 2013 16gb

Good day,
I have done a lot of searching and have found ways to get better performance but I really need maximum performance for the app I am running to reduce lag.
I have the 2013, rooted on marshmallow and elementalx installed.
The max I can get is 450 on the gpu and 1890 on the CPU. And faster and I get constant reboots.
It doesn't matter if I need a custom Rom I'm prepared to do whatever necessary to get the best performance. Battery life isn't important.
Thanks,
Mike

This one app made the absolute biggest difference. It literally made my Nexus 7 refreshed like it was a new tablet. Now anytime I get a N7, the first thing I do is root, and install this app. Seriously blew my mind how butter smooth everything became.

That is another app of the same thing. Both work fine, do same thing. I Like the first one I posted personally.
Give it a shot, lmk if it helped.
Seems to have helped thanks so much for the response. I'll know forsure in the next few days.
