Gotta have The New Hotness. Working pretty damn well too.
MMuzzy 4.2
I waited for people to be my guinea pigs, read their many complaints, and then stuck with 4.1.2. I suggest Minco for a stable, problem free rooted ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1790532
i am sticking with 4.1.2. i need to be able to hear my phone ring and the sound mod i use doesnt work with 4.2. also im not a fan of the new lockscreen on 4.2
One of the reasons I bought a Nexus was to get the stock Android experience and get the newest updates upon release. First I didn't really look into rooting and flashing, while I was on 4.1.2, so I didn't have anything to lose if I went to 4.2. Now I finally started trying out ROM's and stuff so next update it will be more difficult to take the step.
Yeah. Rooting and ROMming opens up a whole world of possibilities, especially for Nexus devices. Nice userpic BTW . Heisenberg ftw.
Still on DarkPA 2.54 for now.
Got 4.2 OTA the day it was released and am sorry I did. Had some custom shell scripts set up to mount and bind my USB stick on my rooted N7 and they no longer work. Even the updated stickMount app is flakey at best. Probably going back to 4.1.2 soon if someone can't figure out how to work around the new "security" features of 4.2.

Huh... I think while 3rd party apps are still catching up, 4.2 is pretty stable itself. Ran a short test, 253h uptime. Buttery smooth.

Pshh. Who needs that? hahahahahahahahaha
I jumped onto 4.1 as soon as a ROM was released. I sceptical on moving into 4.2. From what I have heard I might not be moving for a while.

Well, I like stability... therefore I chose to update to 4.2! Lol I'm running a Rom that has linaro tweaks built into it and it is great! I don't have any of the bugs that stock 4.2 experiences. I love bleeding edge and so does everyone who owns a Nexus! Isn't that the point of owning one?!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Tried stock 4.2 and thought it was really good. Stable and smooth! But couldn't get the mods I wanted. I would normally keep flashing as ROMs are updated, flashing was ridden with problems with /0/0/0 and the like. I know there is a workaround, but I'd rather wait until this is all sorted through. Flashing is supposed to be fun - not give me a headache!
Sticking with bugless beast 4.1.2 with trinity kernel. woohoo

using Xylon atm and its pretty nice, plus has alot of customization option so i dont have any reason to stay on 4.1.2

I think your poll need an extra option.

As much as I want to move forward with 4.2. I'm still waiting on more ROMs to show up and give more time for 4.2 to blend in. Still some issues with it so I could wait on 4.1.2 as of now. Everything is working so ain't in a rush. I am running 4.2 apps though on my VZW GN.

At least from XDA? mROM 3.2 if you want the closest stock ROM without any mods. (Which I'm personally running)
MMUzzy's Jelly Bean is my next choice, stock feel with some extra additions thrown into the mix.

This is answered the same every time it's asked. Try several and see what works best for YOU. Everyone doesn't want the same features in a ROM. Some want stock and others want customization. Read the forums look at the screen shots and flash whatever peaks your interest. If you don't like it flash something else. Just be sure you make a backup just in case something wonky happens.
As for a suggestion, I am currently on Xylon V11+Zen kernel V12.

Someone in the other OTG thread mentioned that with root and Stickmount, he was able to get a USB drive to work. Seems like something similar would be required to get it working right now.
Rooting now to find out...
Update: Rooted with Stickmount and DSLR Controller works
I can confirm that DSLR Controller works just fine on the new Nexus 7. Played around with it for about a hour and had no issues what so ever. Live view looks awesome!
I forgot to add I'm running my Nexus 7 Stock Unrooted at this time.

not working on my 7D
hello everyone ! I just bought the new nexus 7 2013 in France . I'm unrooted DSLR Controller doesn't work with my OTG cable and my 7D!
I tried with my SGS3 and it's well working so the problem doesn't come from the cable.
Could you please help me?
which version of build do you use?

I wasn't able to get it to work unrooted. It does work with the latest build as long as your device has root access.

OK so I have rooted my new nexus 7. So now I can read a USB key but it still not working with my 7D and 500D! What do you use for rooting? i used Nexus Root Toolkit with Chainfire root.
Thanks for your help!
Still under investigation what is going on here. Just received my own Nexus 7 2013 an hour ago, doesn't work for me either. The kernel recognizes the camera, but Android does not. And as long as Android does not detect the camera, DSLR Controller cannot use it. Can't do much more right now, the tablet needs to be charged first.
(Note that the reason root+StickMount does work, as well probably keyboards and mice, is because that is handled at kernel level, and not at app level)
The strange thing is, that it works for some people, and not for others.
Can you guys let me know which exact model you have, and if it does or doesn't work for you ? I have 32gb Wi-Fi model, updated to Android build JSS15Q, and it doesn't work for me.
I've done a lot of fooling around, and the weirdest thing happened - I got it to work (I bet nobody expected that). However, now that I have gotten it to work, I can't get it to to *not* work anymore, so I cannot test myself what the true solution was. There's a bug with the Nexus 7 firmware, *not* with DSLR Controller.
---------------
As such, I need the help of those DSLR Controller users with a 2013 Nexus 7 for whom it does not work. Extra points if you're using cables that you can successfully use on a different Android device together with DSLR Controller.
We're not going to break your device, though you may void warranty. If your device is not oem unlocked (if you don't know what this is, your device isn't oem unlocked), the testing procedure will wipe all your data, so make sure you have backups. Even if you are oem unlocked, backing up your data is not a bad idea, just in case.
If you're available on Google Talk or Hangouts, all the better !
I need guinea pigs, lets figure this out !

Please first try DSLR Controller on your new Nexus 7 and let me know if you can get it to work. For a bunch of people it "just works" already, have to make sure this isn't the case for you.

I just tried it and it does not work. DSLR Controller says "Could not find a compatible camera on WiFi or USB..."
The 2012 Nexus 7 still recognizes it, so I know it's not the camera.

Hello Chainfire!
I have the new Nexus 7 i tried to use DSLR Controller with it on my EOS 7D and EOS 500D. Not working with or without root.
Please note my USB-OTG cable is OK because it's working on my Galaxy S3.
I have unrooted, relocked bootloader and wipe the tablet after flashing the stock rom! Still not working.
Got the same Nexus 7 of you 32GB Wifi with JSS15Q
I hope you will find a solution.
Excuse me for my bad english ^^
Hello Chainfire,
I have the new Nexus 7 (2013) 16GB model with CyanogenMOD 10.2 - JSS15Q and it doesn't work with with my EOS 7D and USB-OTG cable?
I have the same problem on my Nexus 4 with CyanogenMOD 10.2 - JSS15Q
Ik works flawless on my ASUS Transformer Prime (TF201) STOCK unrooted and locked.

works from the first time nexus 7 lte unroot
Hey everyone, this is my first post on the forums and I just wanted to verify somethings about the new update.
I just replaced my apparently not defective (multi touch issues) Nexus 7 2013 and a new one is coming in. The problem here is the new one will be on the JWR66N build and I want to know if this new update will be available for this build or will I be stuck using this build without Netflix?
Thanks!
There is an update I also came from a JWR66N built. Netflix works..

Hooray!! Thanks for the fast reply! How do the multitouch, reboot, and gps issues look like? Still there or has it been removed? still paranoid lol
Honestly.. I was scared to upgrade at first because of all the post I've been reading but after updating, there was no multitouch issues.. No reboot or any other issue.

Thank you so much for your info. Now I know that I won't be returning the new one I'm getting in the mail friday
Well this is my experience with my tablet.. I'm not sure how yours is going to respond to the update.. Since I've read that users have different experiences. Hope for the best

Please consider consolidating JSS15Q experiences in this post

Now to wait until there's a PA 4.4 version custom ROM released OR any other ROM with tablet and extended desktop modes.
I'm still running/loving 4.1.2 PA 2.54 for over a year now, so will likely be just testing out any new 4.4 ROMs.
