Gotta have The New Hotness. Working pretty damn well too.
MMuzzy 4.2
I waited for people to be my guinea pigs, read their many complaints, and then stuck with 4.1.2. I suggest Minco for a stable, problem free rooted ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1790532
i am sticking with 4.1.2. i need to be able to hear my phone ring and the sound mod i use doesnt work with 4.2. also im not a fan of the new lockscreen on 4.2
One of the reasons I bought a Nexus was to get the stock Android experience and get the newest updates upon release. First I didn't really look into rooting and flashing, while I was on 4.1.2, so I didn't have anything to lose if I went to 4.2. Now I finally started trying out ROM's and stuff so next update it will be more difficult to take the step.
Yeah. Rooting and ROMming opens up a whole world of possibilities, especially for Nexus devices. Nice userpic BTW . Heisenberg ftw.
Still on DarkPA 2.54 for now.
Got 4.2 OTA the day it was released and am sorry I did. Had some custom shell scripts set up to mount and bind my USB stick on my rooted N7 and they no longer work. Even the updated stickMount app is flakey at best. Probably going back to 4.1.2 soon if someone can't figure out how to work around the new "security" features of 4.2.

Huh... I think while 3rd party apps are still catching up, 4.2 is pretty stable itself. Ran a short test, 253h uptime. Buttery smooth.

I jumped onto 4.1 as soon as a ROM was released. I sceptical on moving into 4.2. From what I have heard I might not be moving for a while.

Well, I like stability... therefore I chose to update to 4.2! Lol I'm running a Rom that has linaro tweaks built into it and it is great! I don't have any of the bugs that stock 4.2 experiences. I love bleeding edge and so does everyone who owns a Nexus! Isn't that the point of owning one?!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Tried stock 4.2 and thought it was really good. Stable and smooth! But couldn't get the mods I wanted. I would normally keep flashing as ROMs are updated, flashing was ridden with problems with /0/0/0 and the like. I know there is a workaround, but I'd rather wait until this is all sorted through. Flashing is supposed to be fun - not give me a headache!
Sticking with bugless beast 4.1.2 with trinity kernel. woohoo

As much as I want to move forward with 4.2. I'm still waiting on more ROMs to show up and give more time for 4.2 to blend in. Still some issues with it so I could wait on 4.1.2 as of now. Everything is working so ain't in a rush. I am running 4.2 apps though on my VZW GN.

Actually, this isn't the same group that released it. One is MIUI Android in UK and MIUI.us in US. There was a long time that MIUI.us didn't update, so I think it's a good idea to have both listed.

I agree with you about the default iPhone appearance, but that was never how I left it. The theme engine along with the sheer number of themes available lets you make it look pretty much any way want. For my two cents it was what set it apart from other ROMs. That being said, I understand that the themes for ICS ROMs are somewhat limited. I imagine that the number available for JB is going to be pretty slim in the beginning. They also tend to work in incremental updates, so slow improvement over time. Things can be a little buggy in the very beginning. It took about 2 months after they released their GB version that it ran smooth enough on my Evo to use as a daily driver.

The main thing for me is, we bought Android by choice, I used an iPhone and it looked so boring for me, a phone for those who are 50 years old or less than 15. So why MIUI is trying ti copy their UI ? I don't get it, one of the main things google merged to Android was an app drawer, they even tend to take it away from their home launcher. Their GB MIUI was oh god ! An exact Copy of iOS! on ICS they even changed the task manager ! to look exactly like iOS! Why China has/want to copy everything? Android is more successful the way it is.

Im not asking anyone to hate it, I've used it, It's a good ROM when stable, some nice features. But the over all UI and iOS-wanna-be is what hecks you. Lets say you are running MIUI and you meet some of your friends, he has no clue about Android, he has an iPhone? And he'll be like? Oh this look exactly my phone but with some more options ( At the time Google is trying their best to lessen the claims that Android copied iOS ). Instead, show him the Vanilla Jelly bean! And he will **** in his pants...

I'll just keep mine or upgrade to the 32GB TMO version when it comes out. I'm guessing its the US Snapdragon version (compatible w/ AT&T & TMO) & we should be able to install it on ours w/o any issues. I'm all guessing here.

You shouldn't feel bad about your purchase. I'm quite happy with mine so far (except the overheating issue lately).
I don't have the AOSP version yet, so I can't really speak of the features that are/aren't going to be there.
I'm guessing if they make it true stock Android, there will be no Samsung bloat at all.
So it's basically a much more powerful version than any Nexus phone will ever be,
and as such the price is quite high. Personally, I would not consider it at that price.
I'm happy with my T-Mo, and with a few customization here or there, I can always get stock.
This is really geared toward the hard-core Android fans/developers. You can't doubt the S4 has the best internal hardware
of any phone out there, and there lies possibilities.
I also heard the news from google I/O. Does this mean that this version of the S4 will be as open as a nexus and easy for developers to make their custom ROMs for it?

Sony basically did the same thing with the ZR, took complaints and made a new phone out of it
Just purchased a 600$ Ip57 phone? Well there's IP58 now! (Waterproof not resistant)
It's good to have options, but honestly most people that buy pure vanilla Android are experienced users. Most will have no clue rather it's Vanilla or not.
So there in lies the questions. Why put this out after and most that come here that have an s4 already hacked it to death no? So I don't see the point of the users here who want to upgrade to this when you just put a vanilla type ROM on it.

Not true. my nexus 4 gets bugs every once in a while.
If the hardware is identical to the tmoble version then you should just be able to flash the image through Odin right? Seems kind of like the galaxy nexus where you flash takju from yakju or whatever and boom, you are getting the Google play version of updates, wallet functionality etc. If anything it says Samsung has opened their flagship to aosp right?
Even if you think $650 is too much this means that potentially, Samsung will get touch wiz updates to new versions faster as there will be nexus level compatibility with each new android update. I'm not saying immediate but they will have an inside track based on the fact that Google will actively update their device through AOSP for at least 2 years.

CM will always have bugs due to the way they change the Android coding. Where it is stable and great work people should never look for a bug free OS

Hello Ladies & Gentlemen,
Question: I'm strongly leaning towards picking up this 2nd-Gen Nexus 7 next week.. ( I have never owned the 1st-Gen ) and I know the 2nd-Gen is shipping with Android 4.3.. Since this is still Asus with upgraded internals, Will these 4.2.2 ROMS run on the 2nd-Gen? I know it's only a matter of time before 4.3 is ripped apart and reborn as Custom ROMS but I was curious if anyone thinks 4.2.2 would boot..
Thanks for any answers anyone can provide.. :good:
If these said ROMs were ported then maybe. Although I doubt it because 4.3 is better in pretty much every way so what's the point. 4.2.2 software made for the Tegra Nexus 7 won't boot on the newer architecture in the 2nd gen model (Snapdragon S4 CPU).

I think not. Wait for custom roms for the 7² to appear, which they will pretty soon I guess.
But you should definitely go for the new N7, it looks so much sweeter than the 1st gen...
direct ROM flashes Wont work, but if someone ported it over, I dont see why not. but that would probably take just as much time as it would to merge the features to 4.3 so no one will do it.

Hey guys
I have this amazing tablet since a couple of week now..
I think the development has been kind of slow for a "nexus" device
what do you guys think?
Hard to get a lot of development going without a stable platform.
It's been through 3 updates since being shipped.
Remember, the first generation had a month or so head start, as there were a few hundred in the wild and the factory images released 30 or so days in advance of the retail launch.
There's stuff popping up... Just takes a bit of time...
Yeah I guess .. sooner or later roms like AOKP should pop up ..plus the European release just happened

Yeah it's not officially launched in Sweden yet, I had to import which is no problem anyway.

Yep so we might start seeing better development in coming weeks
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
Maybe it's not related with a stable platform
the nexus 7 has lots of hardware/software problems (wich have not been solved yet) maybe that's why.
and please dont ask for development, they wont hurry to make a kernel/rom just bec you make this thread
sorry if i look rude  but that's my opinion.
when i get mi nexus 7 2013 in september i wont start making a rom since first hours, i will first try it, enjoy it and when i get bored of the jelly bean 4.3 then i will make a rom.
maybe i am not the only one who thinks like this and that's why there aren't lots of projects so far.
--
and please, you have 4.3 android jelly bean, you want someone to make a port from a higher device? from a higher android version? wich one?
the devices who always have lots of development are for example an older device who gets a port from a higher one. or a good device wich has not many features.
anyway, you may be waiting for AOKP,CM,PA,etc.. just wait the good developers will release them soon.

There's no need to be rude. It wasn't a complaint, it was an observation and I personally found some of the responses quite interesting.
Sorry if this an obvious question, but I'd really like to know if I'd have to root/unlock it to flash some more recent Android version.
Speaking of which, how difficult is it to flash/unroot?

No man not yet. They do have plans to.
It's true that the answer is a simple no. But I had to learn the hard way when I first jumped into this site a few years ago that people do not like to be asked questions that are easy to answer. You don't even have to look on this website. Simply look at the spec sheet on LG's website and you will see that it comes with 4.2 .2. There is already a rootkit out for the device but no roms at this time. I honestly don't think you need a newer version at this time. 4.2 .2 jelly bean does everything you need in my opinion. Otherwise get a Nexus device. I have a Nexus 4 running Kit Kat Paranoid Android and Franco kernel and I couldn't be happier. But when it comes to my tablet I just wanted for basic consumption and a stock Android is perfectly fine. Just my opinion.
