[Q] Phone won't turn on after trying to update via KIES - rooted - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

My Samsung Galaxy S4 (rooted with CM, but stock otherwise) will not power on at all after trying to update it via Kies. It got stuck on the screen where it shows the green Android guy, with "Do not turn off the target" for well over an hour. I had to pull the battery to get it to get off of that screen. When I went to power it back up, it does nothing. Tried every combination of buttons that I could think of, but the phone will not respond.
Is it bricked? Please help!

Sounds pretty bricked. If you can't power it on at all, even to recovery or download mode, I'm not sure what you could possibly do to fix it. Nothing that interface with the phone to fix it if the phone can't power on.

Crap. I guess I'm going to have to head over to T-Mobile to see if I can get a warranty replacement. I think it's good until May.
Edit: T-Mobile Rep thinks that it's a hardware failure of some sort, so they're sending me a "new" S4 overnight. At least I'll be able to get 4.4 without too much trouble now.

[Q] Help!! a100 Blackscreen

i have a a100 with the latest flexreaper rom installed and im stuck with a pretty serious issue:
a couple of days ago the tab was acting real slow and sluggish and getting bad battery life didnt think nothing of it so i just rebooted a couple times and left it alone . all was good untill the battery hit 10% and i plugged it up using the factory ac adapter. the next day (maybe 6-7 hours later) i went to turn it on and nothing no vibrate no screen flash nothing; other than the power button turning blue as i pressed it and it would stay on for a couple hours but still no other response from the tablet.
im at my wits end on what could be wrong and now i got my wife with her foot on my neck till i get it fixed. can anyone help me?
ive tried to do a hard reset with the reset button tried to boot into recovery /bootloader no dice
(also my home button flashed a couple time i pressed the power button) dont know if its relevant but wanna get as much info out as possible
wondering if anyone can help me...

It may take awhile for someone to see this and form something to try, random bricking for no reason is rare, its almost always some error by the user. However have you attempted adb connection to it? Leave it powered off, connect to the PC you used to unlock the boot loader then power on. Does the PC make the USB connect sound? Does the Acer vibrate? Did the home key blink again?
It really sounds like your boot partition is wrecked which wouldn't normally happen outside of flashing. If boot loader is trash then it won't know what to do and just sit there. No recovery or anything else.

it made something like the connect sound but instead of the regular duh doom sound it did a dadadoom (kinda hard to describe the sound) but it was faster than ive ever heard the connect sound before which is weird. the tab didnt vibrate and it seems the home button blinks when the tab is dead and needs recharged

Yeah I know that sound it means USB connected but error for some reason. Its been shown if this thing dies all the way down it wont read the battery correctly and probably needs to be sent in. Before that I personally would unplug it open it up and remove the battery for awhile, maybe an hour then put it back and plug it in. But thats me, not the advice I'm giving. If you have warantee on it use that.
The batteries on a lot of devices and laptops etc have something of a fail safe, if the voltage drops below a certain point it trips to prevent cell damage, however it renders the battery useless.
I haven't searched out much past that if a reset is possible by us, but it seems the pack is trash after or needs sent in.
Since this is a sealed unit you void warranty opening it (well unlocking the boot loader did too) so you can't send it in for repairs without paying for it.
I hope someone can jump in and help figure this out, and prove me wrong.

Weird, This exact same thing happened to me. Used it in the morning and now after work it won't turn on. I had already tried disconnecting the battery, but hadn't thought to leave it disconnected for an hour. My tablet has been running the leaked ICS since it came out and The last factory reset it had was about a month ago. It was working fine up until this. The power button seems to be responding correctly, the issue is that after the LEDs light up, there is no vibration or display. I hope someone can help us with this issue.
EDIT:
It won't connect in ADB mode. It will only appear on my computer as an APX device and since there is no vibration I am unable to boot into fastboot. Any help or suggestions? All the threads I have found have involved booting into fastboot.

Having the exactly same issue, here...
I also tried to hit the hardware reset button and it does not help.
If the screen is blank while powered on its in failsafe mode, in other words is bricked, has to go to Acer.

This just happened to me a few weeks ago as well. If you are still under warranty send it in to Acer, thats what I did. I just got an email saying they had fixed it and were sending it back for free!!
At the time I was on the 9/02 JB build. I wonder if this issue is caused by faulty hardware or if it is an issue that was made by rooting and unlocking it? I don't know enough about this stuff to answer that though, but it does make me think whether I should root/unlock it when I get it back or leave it stock.
Also thanks Pio_masaki for helping me a few weeks back wasn't sure if I was even going to send it in until you said they most likely won't be able to tell.
I highly doubt they even CARE when sending these in. They will void for physical damage most likely.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus CDMA, soft bricked?

So I've done all the research I can and can not figure out what I should do about my phone.
The complete story:
My power button was not responsive starting last night, after pulling the battery the phone began to work fine. The issue happened again today so I did a Backup of the phone using Clockworkmod, then flashed on old rom to see if the power button issue was "software related". The power button was still unresponsive and i went into recovery mode, but of course could not do anything because the power button didn't work to confirm any highlighted items. So once again i took out the battery and the phone will not turn on.
What I have done so far:
1)Plugged the phone in w/the battery in, and i receive a battery charging icon for about 8 seconds then it goes away and black screen.
2)Plug the phone into the computer without the battery and the computer recognizes the phone but under devices i get a blinking icon saying "OMAP 44440"
If I can get the phone on, I can gnex toolkit to return my device to fatory but I have no idea what to do next? Please help.
This sounds like a hardware problem. Your physical buttons should be functioning normally when your phone is powered off (e.g your power button). Sounds like you need a warranty exchange.

Thanks for advice, but I've got a couple problems with that.
My phone is rooted and has not been restored to factory because I can't turn it on.
Second, if I could turn it on isn't my warranty voided? And if it isn't voided, given that I could restore the phone to factory; I bought the phone through amazon,so would i contact amazon, verizon or Samsung?
Any thoughts on using a usbjig to start up my phone?
I don't know how but my phone turned on, Thanks for the help.

[Q] Stuck on Samsung Galaxy S3 Screen

Any thoughts here, so far have come up with nothing. I was running odin trying to update and got interupted partially through the process. I'm able to boot the phone on, however it quickly flashes the Samsung screen then proceeds to the "Samsung Galaxy S3" screen where it hangs. I can't boot into recovery, I can't boot into download mode. All I can do is power the phone on and get stuck on this screen. It hangs there until I pull the battery. I've tried every combination possible to boot into recovery & download mode to no avail. If I plug the phone into my computer I can't get it to be recognized since its stuck on this screen. I don't think it's bricked since i'm able to power on, just stuck.
Any thoughts?
If you can still turn it on you can definitely get to download mode. Make sure you're doing the combo right..

Thanks for the quick reply, I like your confidence although I'm still skeptical. I do think I've tried all of the combos to get into download mode but I'm still not getting past the Samsung GS3 screen. Can you tell me which is the "right" combo?
Thanks

I've seen a borked recovery but never seen a borked download mode unless the phone was bricked which isn't the case here since it still powers on. The combo is vol-down+home+power then volume up at the warning screen

That combo is not working. No matter how long/short I hold it or how long/short I wait after the battery pull it still goes straight to the GS3 Logo and hangs forever. I think its bricked. Maybe I need to try a usb jig...

Well I'm sure it's not bricked but this is the first time I've heard a jig mentioned and I don't wanna pull my hair out cuz of a stupid comment. A jig would definitely do the trick here. I assume you don't have one so a word of advice : use Ebay. And buy from someone in the states. Its more than worth the few extra bucks.
I agree that your phone is more than likely not bricked like you may think. You need to hold down the 3 key combo until the screen actually powers on and then let them go. It takes a good 5-7 seconds after the phone vibrates before the screen powers on and then let them go. It should go into download mode and if you still can't get it then sometimes having someone else try it is all it takes.... but most definetly your phone is not hard bricked if it powers on.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. At this point I'm going to have to send it in to mobiltech to have them hopefully revive it using their JTAG services.
I had this problem today.....
After much gnashing of teeth and swearing and being unable to use the generic android recovery due to removing my power button (don't ask) I flashed CWM with odin then used Android Toolkit to restart into recovery, wiped the cache, rebooted and Bob's your Mother's brother everything is rosy in the garden again................

CM10.2 Galaxy S3 (i747) Soft bricked?

Hello Everyone,
I have a rogers Galaxy S3 I747M that I have been running with Cyanogenmod for 6 months. A few weeks ago I used the CM desktop loader to load CM10.2 on my phone and it was working fine. Yesterday my phone told me there was a CM update so I downloaded it and it seemed to be working but glitchy.
This morning my phone reset itself and now when I turn it on it just goes to the samsung screen and shuts off. I can't get into recovery or download mode.
Do I need a Jtag? Should I pay $100 to a local shop to do it.
Do I need to buy a USB jig? How do I use it if I buy one from ebay?
Thank you
Does the phone power up at all? Do you have access to a USB jig to try?

The phone powers up for only a second. I can't get into recovery. I can get to download screen but it shuts off in 2 seconds.
USB jig cannot keep in download mode either, phone shuts off.
I don't think it is a power button short because its not looping and my power button or USB ports have given me no issues. CM hasn;t give me issues either until today, after some random update yesterday. It kept telling me to download/update the software and I did. and it worked all night and then just restarted this morning and is not dead
Same issue
I'm facing the same issue too.
I have an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3. I was running CM11 nightlies. It was working perfectly fine for all these days. Couple of days back it suddenly died. The phone hasn’t been switching on back since then. I tried putting it on full charge. Whenever I pull out the battery and reinsert, it vibrates, the LED comes on and the Samsung screen comes on for a second and then the phone turns off again. I cannot access the recovery or download modes through the key combinations. I also tried going into download mode using a Jig. I have to remove the battery and reinsert it. The Jig did work and the phone did go into download mode but, only for a second and then turns off. I’m not sure what exactly the issue is.
Can anyone help us with this issue?

I HAD THE SAME ISSUE!!!!!!
Phone is running fine, 30 minutes later it's dead. I pull the battery, put it back in, it vibrates, turns on, and turns off quickly.
Do this:
Pull out battery for 1 minute.
Put the battery in and DON'T touch it at all.
Does it vibrate? Then turn on by itself?
It should show Samsung Logo quickly, then the start of the CM boot menu.
If so, you've got a bad power button. I had the same issue. Only thing to do is replace the power button.
I got mine fixed here: http://brickedmyphone.com/
The guys name is Joe, and he probably will confirm the same thing I said. He will also trouble shoot it with you when you said him an email.
TL;DR: I doubt you're bricked, most probably bad power button.

[Q] HELP!! Phone won't turn on!

I was working out at the gym earlier today and when I wanted to take my phone out to check messages, my phone just shut off all of a sudden and wouldn't turn back on. I tried taking out the battery and putting it back in and it doesn't turn on when I push the power button. Also, sometimes, the phone would buzz and show the samsung logo and the cm logo, but then the screen would turn black again. I can't go into recovery mode either. When I got home and tried to charge it, it never charged either. It just did the same thing and buzzed and then show the samsung and cm logo and then the screen would go black again. At first, I was thinking it might have bricked, but seeing as how I never did any firmware changes to the phone, it shouldn't have bricked. I only opened the phone to check the time. Do you guys think it's the phones problem? Or is there any way to fix this?
Any help would be appreciated!

No, I can't seem to get into download or recovery mode.
DO you have a USB jig?
Another battery?

You are holding the power, vol up and home button at same time till the samsung logo flashes right?
Never mind guys. I took it to the repair shop and the guy said that it was my power button chip that was malfunctioning. He replaced the chip and it worked again. Thanks for the feedback though. Really appreciate it.
