Hi,
Right in the middle of use, my ATT Tilt 2 went to a basic, dead screen with red, green, blue, and white bars that says Rhod300 32m SS-BC, etc.
The operating system seems have gone down--it won't respond to anything. Hard reset produces the same results.
Can I flash a cooked or official Rom back onto this? I think activesynch is needed for a normal flash and of course I can't use active synch with the phone in this condition.
I think probably what I need is an original ROM install. Is this possible with a normal Windows 7 PC and a dead phone?
I have so many Windows Mobile programs and peripherals that I am trying to avoid going to Windows Phone at all costs--at least until they have basic stuff like file systems, a way to port over notes, etc. Also need a hard keyboard.
Right now using an older Fuze, which works, but is slower, worse screen, smaller, and lacks some of the features I like.
Thanks for your help.
You sound like you're in the bootloader mode. Tri-color screen.
You can flash from USB or from SD at that screen. I'd recommend trying to flash a stock ROM - as it flashes everything. Assuming that works, hopefully you can flash back whatever ROM you were on.
The phone isn't dead if you're at the tri-color screen. It should say 'serial' at the bottom - when you plug in your USB cable, it should say 'USB' and install some drivers. Then with the RUU software that comes with every ROM, you should be able to flash it.
Phone won't reboot--stuck on tricolored boot screen
Hi,
Thanks so much for replying. I appreciate you pros helping us novices.
Just after I posted the first note, I pulled the battery and hit the power button, it rebooted, and everything was still there in the OS--working fine. But whenever the device had to be rebooted, I would have the same problem of it getting stuck in the boot screen. After that, for the last several days once in awhile, randomly, it would finally reboot from the boot screen after I pulled the battery and hit the power button. The rest of the time (about 5/1) it would just sit there in the boot screen no matter what I did. The "Serial"/"USB" thing would change when I plugged it in, but that's all.
Thought it was the OS, so at a lucky moment where the "pull battery, hit power button" strategy actually worked, I installed the latest official HTC/ATT Rom--it's the next to last one issued that ends in .4.
It was gorgeous and I got all excited--started installing stuff thinking my problem was solved.
Had to reboot to install some programs--now it is stuck again on the boot screen. Tried 30x again--no luck with the "pull battery/hit power button"
strategy. Sometime it would flash a white screen really quickly saying something like "Can't read image!" before going into permanent boot screen. The boot screen will switch from "Serial" to "USB" if you connect it to the computer. So, the problem doesn't seem to be in the OS--rather, in the ability of the device to "read" the OS from the boot screen.
I would be grateful if you or anyone else may know what's going on here, and any ideas on how to fix it. Is there any manual way to get it to read the OS from the boot screen when that's not happening?
I have two guesses (both of which may be wrong):
1. It may be something in the hardware is just worn out and is less and less able to read the Rom--any ROM. I got the phone new off Amazon for a profit of $50 ($.01 cost plus a refund for an older phone) in the summer of 2010 when it was already outdated. and WP was replacing WM. I've certainly gotten my money's worth after 18 months!
Of course we now know that a brand new ROM has the same problem as the older one--which suggests to me it's in the hardware. I'm sure the new OS and the stuff I installed is still there on the phone, but something it appears is not reading something in order to allow the boot up.
2. I have a squirrely free program called Rax Reset (from Windows Mobile Marketplace) that does a software-based hard or soft reboot from inside the OS. The very last time the device went down and didn't come back up, I had used that program to soft reset it. Might have been a big mistake. Could this program be causing the problem? If so, just one reboot would allow me to get rid of it or even hard reset to remove everything but the new OS--but can't get it to boot.
If it turns out the phone is just worn out, I've certainly gotten my money's worth.
I still love WM even with all its problems--and especially the newer Sense version. If this one is shot, I'm thinking about just buying a new Touch Pro2 on Ebay to avoid all of the sacrifices and backwards steps involved with Windows Phone.
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Why are you crossposting? I read this EXACT same post in a thread just below this, in the same section. That's pretty low.. Crossposting across forums isn't welcome, crossposting within forums IN THE SAME SECTION is definitely not welcome.
Don't do it again.
Sorry, just trying to get help
Sorry, just trying to get help, not that familiar with the rules.
I searched on "bootloader" and found a thread (wrote a comment there too), but it's old....
Here is the thread. It doesn't really provide any solution.
HomeArrow
Legacy & Low Activity DevicesArrow
HTC Rhodium: Touch Pro2, Tilt 2Arrow
Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 GeneralArrow
issues with bootloader.
Either way, whether you know the rules or not - why would you think copying and pasting the exact same words in the exact same forum help you any more...
Anyhoo, have you tried the usual? Flash stock? Sometimes I've heard you have to flash several times, I never really understood that logic tho.
I'll try to reinstall the HTC/ATT Sense OS again. I guess you're saying active synch doesn't need to be working in order to do that. I'm at work now--have to wait until i get home. Nothing to lose at this point.
But I'm seriously wondering whether the problem is the OS install or whether there is something in the device that is supposed to read the ROM and start the bootup that is just wearing out.
Thanks.
"No Image File"
The quick little flash of white screen has "No image file" in blue letters--goes by so fast you can hardly see it.

That error message is 'normal'. Basically the phone checks the SD card for a file labeled "RHODIMG.nbh". If said file exists, it will flash from it. If no file exists, or no SD present - it continues loading bootloader and should say "Serial" at the bottom. This indicates that it's ready to be flashed. If you plug in your USB cable, it will install some drivers and then it should change to "USB" at the bottom instead of "Serial".
Now you should be ready to flash from a normal RUU. I would recommend flashing STOCK, because this flashes everything.
It might also be good to note a lot of people have experienced something similar - the phone getting "stuck" in bootloader mode, and only occasionally making it to WinMo. I'd guess it's failing hardware in some way shape or form, as none of my RHOD's or RAPH's have ever done this.
Good News--at least for now
Good news--I hooked it up to the computer with the USB cable for awhile and the Windows 7 computer did set up some drivers. For some reason after I disconnected it I reset it, and the reboot worked. Then I immediately uninstalled the squirrely reset program and removed it.
Everything I installed yesterday is working fine--I have soft reset it about 5 times now and each time it has rebooted. So I think maybe I'm back in business. Too soon to tell--but we will pray and keep our fingers crossed.
Thanks so much for your time and help. I don't know how to use the thanks meter but I would have if I could have.

You're welcome. Basically if I or someone else posts something helpful, click the "Thanks" button under that post.
15 hours later, Tilt 2 is still working fine on the newly installed Sense OS. I have rebooted freely (using the stylus button on the side) since removing the program "Rax Reset," and everything seems to be going well. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, and will end my contributions to this thread with a warning about using "Rax Reset."
Thanks to all.

Hoping you all can help. My kid stepped on the back of my wife's phone (her fault for having it on the floor if you ask me...) and it caused a pressure crack across the back glass but left the front screen untouched. However, when we turn it on you hear the little touch sounds it makes but the screen only slowly flashes to a solid white and then slowly fades. So the digitizer seems to work just fine but the LCD does not(?) As stated, the phone responds to touch, makes notification sounds when called/texted/emailed, etc... However the screen will not come back on.
** I've attached a (admittedly bad quality) picture of the solid white screen in case that helps for some unknown reason... **
I am fairly certain I can order a new LCD and replace it for a quite low price, however it looks like a lot more trouble than its worth and she has a replacement phone already. My question is I'd like to sell this phone to a couple vendors I've found on Craigslist that are interested, but I need to be able to wipe it completely (she doesn't have any nudy pics, however there is some sensitive financial info in the emails and texts that can probably be accessed on the phone, although she can probably just change her gmail password to block them from accessing here email, but I'm not sure what may be cached on the phone.)
Its never been rooted, but I wasn't sure if there was an all USB way (adb shell maybe?) I can use to at least wipe this phone or some other alternate method of getting the screen info viewed so I can perform a wipe? If there is a solution I could implement today, that would be ideal.
Thanks, and let me know if you need any additional info!

If you can get into fastboot then you should be able to wipe the phone. I know the G has internal storage but there should be a command to wipe that as well.
Do a search for "ADB factory reset."
To get into fastboot or download mode requires only volume and power key presses but I am unsure at the moment which does which.
I know that when powered off, the button combo to get to the screen where you want to pick where to boot to is volume up and power. And then for me it is two clicks down to recovery. Don't know how many it is for boot loader though.

One of the button combos goes into download mode. Check the Softbrick fix thread and I know it says there.
This thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230106
Here:
Download = Hold Volume up + down + power while plugging the USB cable into the phone.
Title pretty much says the basics.
Details however are as follows.
SM-T210R, Have had this unit for about a year, always been in a case, never dropped, not a scratch/dent/ding on it and I use it every day.
Past couple weeks I was getting update notification from Samsung, I'd always put it off till I got home then not bother when I actually got there.
Finally, a long weekend for me.. I let the update run its course, No problems (500+MB's) And I believe it was upgrade to Kitkat from Jellybean.
Can't remember the exact version details.
Soooo, I use my tablet throughout the day everything seems to work great NO problems at all.
Notice my battery is down to like 20-25% and plug it in (Original wall charger and cable)
Go to get it the next morning, open the case expecting it to flash and display my lock/swipe screen, Nothing.. Not TOTALLY Black, you can see theres still a glow.
The screen still responds to touches ( I can swipe to unlock it and hear the sound)
I tried to reset power. Nope nothing except I can hear the startup tune.
Tried hard reset, nope same thing.
Tried every button combo I could think of or contort my hands/feet into.. Nope no joy.
Hit the internet... read, read, read, read, watch videos, watch more videos..
Ah-ha take the back off, disco battery, wait, replug and voila.
Nope.. not the issue
Different milliamp chargers, nope.
WTF??
Normally I'd think I did something to it, but I did nothing that I hadn't done at least 200 times already.
I'm convinced Samsung F'd my tablet w/their update, not only that but my $1200.00 drone sits idle over my holiday because my vision app resides on my sgt3.
Ideas?
My best solution so far...
Well its been like 2 days since my sgt3 lost its mind.
Found a solution.
EVGA - Tegra Note 7. (No hyperlinks allowed for me....Yet)
nvidia.ca/object/evga-tegra-note-tablet
DAYUMMMMM.
This thing blows my SGT3 right off the map.
Still would like to find a REAL solution, there's alot of configurations on my SGT3.
But in the meantime I think this'll keep me almost content.

Thanks Jason, I've not messed w/flashing the firmware through pc on this thing yet.
I've done it w/psp's, motherboards, routers etc, but never w/one of my tabs.
Just to confirm... I dont need a display on my tablet to flash it w/Odin?

No, you don't need the display on your Tab, you just need Kies and Odin on your PC.
Place your Tab in Downloadmode(VolDown+Home+Power, release All buttons when you see the warning, press VolUp) then choose your PDA firmware in Odin(Obtain firmware from SamMobile) an hit start. After this boot into recovery and wipe/factory reset your tab if it's not booting!
Good Luck

Hey Daniel, Thanks for the info.
I found Odin was pretty easy to flash with.
I've tried 4 different FW images for the GT3-7 and taken the unit (almost) completely apart w/the exception of removing the actual digitizer and the lcd.
Same results after each install though.
It boots, plays the boot sound, but no display.
I guess next step is removing the screen.. After that I don't know what to do except possibly getting myself a lcd replacement..
Just might drop it off to one of the local shops and get them to do it that way I won't wind up paying for something and f'ing it up.
No joy w/my sgt3..

Even went so far as to try Kies to do the last one.

So I've had my Tab 3 for a little over 6 months now and have had no issues what-so-ever 'til now. My problem is with the screen just suddenly becoming unresponsive after locking it after use. I swiped my finger across the screen to unlock and got right back into my tablet like normal, but then once I tried to do open up applications from the Home Screen nothing happened. I tabbed lightly and swiped repeatedly trying to get a response.... nothing.
My screen LCD screen is flawless and is original, it has never been tampered with. There are no cracks or scratches or anything it just suddenly stopped working. So I figure it's a software issue, no big deal, right? Wrong. I did a soft reset by holding down the power button, it reboots and comes back to the home screen. Nothing. I figured wth I have nothing important on here, let me do a hard reset. Boot into recovery mode wipe the cache and tablet performing a hard reset. Tablet then reboots to the default setup screen to choose language. Nothing. I can't choose anything. I don't know what's wrong. Lastly, the battery was semi-low around 20% or so before this all happened. So I let it fully charge again hoping that'd help, but nothing. I'm at a loss of what to do next.
NOTE: This is all original and is stock everything. I've never modded this tablet or rooted it. I don't understand how the digitizer would just give out for no reason, it hasn't been dropped or anything.
Any other troubleshooting I can do? I've thought about installing the USB drivers and putting it into download mode to flash a custom rom or even the original to see if it'll work, but I don't want to do that unless necessary. If it is the digitizer are these hard to replace and costly?

well replace a screen digitizer require a basic set of skills on mobile repairing. However I found this on ebay (US) http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odk...en.TRS1&_nkw=T217S+screen&ghostText=&_sacat=0
but you can try to flash into latest firmware by samsung and try again
So I'm having this issue with my fathers S3 ( and recently with my moms galaxy tab 2 , which I managed to fix). But his phone will boot till it shows the GALAXY logo, then reboots, when I try and enter recovery mode, I get as far as the blue letters saying "recovery" , but the phone proceeds to reboot, and when I try and enter download mode, I get as far as the actual "DOWNLOADING" page, but again.. The phone reboots seconds later, I am not 100% sure what the issue is, but I believe it is due to the amount of files / apps he kept on the phone ( which interferes with the OS expanding if I'm not mistaken ) , I am not sure what to do from here as last time I faced this proble, I was still able to get into download mode, and flash a stock ROM, wher I can't even get into download mode here for Odin to see it! Any help would be greatly appreciated! I am willing to dig into the phone hardware wise if there's a fast fix for it like that as I am a fair bit experienced with the insides of an S3
Possible power button issue?

Yeah, sounds like button issues or gunk somewhere. I would get a can of electrical cleaner from the automotive store and spray ports and button areas, maybe tearing into the phone as far as you're comfortable. If the screen has been replaced, there's probably no optical filler glue, so be careful not to force gunk between the AMOLED and digitizer. Fling the phone dry for a bit and see if it works.
