So I'm having this issue with my fathers S3 ( and recently with my moms galaxy tab 2 , which I managed to fix). But his phone will boot till it shows the GALAXY logo, then reboots, when I try and enter recovery mode, I get as far as the blue letters saying "recovery" , but the phone proceeds to reboot, and when I try and enter download mode, I get as far as the actual "DOWNLOADING" page, but again.. The phone reboots seconds later, I am not 100% sure what the issue is, but I believe it is due to the amount of files / apps he kept on the phone ( which interferes with the OS expanding if I'm not mistaken ) , I am not sure what to do from here as last time I faced this proble, I was still able to get into download mode, and flash a stock ROM, wher I can't even get into download mode here for Odin to see it! Any help would be greatly appreciated! I am willing to dig into the phone hardware wise if there's a fast fix for it like that as I am a fair bit experienced with the insides of an S3
Possible power button issue?
battery pull trick ¿
"all i can really do , is stay out of my own way and let the will of heaven be done"
Yeah, sounds like button issues or gunk somewhere. I would get a can of electrical cleaner from the automotive store and spray ports and button areas, maybe tearing into the phone as far as you're comfortable. If the screen has been replaced, there's probably no optical filler glue, so be careful not to force gunk between the AMOLED and digitizer. Fling the phone dry for a bit and see if it works.

Hello, new here and I know nothing about rooting nor have I rooted my phone but after looking all over the net I have come here in hopes of finding some tech wizards that can help me.
The Problem:
Turned phone off and a few hours later I tried turning it back on but it only shows the screen with model number and Samsung under it. It shows for a few seconds then the screen goes black and keeps looping like this. I have not rooted or anything. Not dropped in water ( water square is pink though). Phone shows no water damage or corrosion after opening.
What have I done?
I tried booting in recovery and download mode but i have never done it before and I was not successful at getting any other screen besides the model number Samsung screen.
I have tried a different battery after spending some time at the mall (no on carries it any more as it is no longer made) different battery did nothing. Repair guys suggested it may be the button sticking and said hey could clean it for $25. Instead I went home searched the web and disassembled my phone. I cleaned the button areas on the inside of the case and the contact on the inside attached to the circuit board. I have reassembled and it still does the same thing.
After more research I found a video saying to actually remove the internal button from the circuit board to stop the loop (which will leave me with no power button) I have not tried this as I am not that bold (yet).
I am wondering if it is a software problem that can be fixed by using Odin and installing the stock firmware but I just have not found a proper guide that makes enough sense for me to actually try. I don't want to waste my time with something I have never done and make things worse.
I have downloaded Odin and firmware from sammobile but that is about as far as I can go without some hand holding....
Thanks for reading my story any help would be much appreciated.

Try this - Press and hold Volume up + Home + Power buttons together a few seconds, you should get recovery mode. And then find factory reset.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried this many times and tried again after reading your reply. This should work fairly fast from what I understand right?
My phone is a virgin mobile phone (Canada) is it possible they have locked out recovery / download modes?
When I try to start in recovery nothing happens at all. Screen does not light, phone does not vibrate. Again I have never tried this until now so I don't know if the phone ever booted into these special modes when it was working.

It's weird. I found something on page hard-reset.com. I cannot post link here now. I put "samsung ace2 recovery" into google and it was on first page. It's hard reset key combination. Try it.
When you plug the phone into the charger, do you get the battery charging status screen?

Forget my previous post. I was wrong. I try find another solutions.
Is your battery fully charged?
So, after flashing the latest firmware from sammobile for the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 with Odin, I am now the not-so-proud owner of a what seems to be unresponsive - working - device.
Let me explain:
I just downloaded the latest firmware from sammobile.
I followed the instructions from sammobile, which basically says normal flash with Odin.
Plugged it in, started Odin, put the file in the right place and started the flash.
Odin does its thing, everything goes well, device is showing me a nice blue dotted bar which is filling up slowly, good.
And then suddenly Odin reports "FAILED" after is was done with /system.
Device has stopped working, blue bar not filling anymore.
I reset Odin with hope to restart the flash, with no result.
The device is not being recognized anymore by USB, and it's now stuck in the "odin mode" screen.
After seeking some advice on IRC I found that the only way to get the power off is to unplug the battery, which is harder that it sounds.
So after a good 30 minutes of carefully prying and making my way around the tablet I managed to get the cover of.
As I'm looking at the naked device and wondering "how the hell do i get this battery out". This is not like a normal phone or laptop or any kind.
I found a couple of little screws, 4 of them, around the battery so I unscrewed these and the battery came 'loose' but was held in place by 2 flat cables which I couldn't remove.
Put them back in, and all of a sudden my tablet's sceen was 'off', but I'm not sure it's really powered off because the powerbutton has no response.
I'm stuck and it the thought of just binning the tablet is frustrating me.
Anybody got any ideas of what this might be and how to fix it?
[edit]
I found out it wasn't powered off, it was just the screen. I could feel the CPU was still emitting heat.
So I unplugged the battery, let it cool down for a couple of minutes, plugged it back in, and now there is nothing.
No screen, no usb recognition, no power.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
You didnt need to take out the battery. Your should have exit download mode by doing power, home, vol down buttons for 30 seconds and it should reboot and you could of tryed again. If that didnt work you could have let it drain. Im not sure about helping with the battery part as i never opened it.
easy fix - check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50412284&postcount=8
no need for draining the battery. tested and it works. happens once to me, use above method and problem solved.
can use my modded version attached, but, please be aware, it's ONLY FOR RESETTING THE STUCK DOWNLOAD MODE !

I tried that, but didn't work. The tablet was/is unresponsive. Draining wasn't an option, battery was just fully charged.

Thanks for this! Am going to try this once my screen works again.
At this point it goes 'on' but the screen doesn't, and there is still no USB recognition so I guess I got a nice expensive paperweight
So I've had my Tab 3 for a little over 6 months now and have had no issues what-so-ever 'til now. My problem is with the screen just suddenly becoming unresponsive after locking it after use. I swiped my finger across the screen to unlock and got right back into my tablet like normal, but then once I tried to do open up applications from the Home Screen nothing happened. I tabbed lightly and swiped repeatedly trying to get a response.... nothing.
My screen LCD screen is flawless and is original, it has never been tampered with. There are no cracks or scratches or anything it just suddenly stopped working. So I figure it's a software issue, no big deal, right? Wrong. I did a soft reset by holding down the power button, it reboots and comes back to the home screen. Nothing. I figured wth I have nothing important on here, let me do a hard reset. Boot into recovery mode wipe the cache and tablet performing a hard reset. Tablet then reboots to the default setup screen to choose language. Nothing. I can't choose anything. I don't know what's wrong. Lastly, the battery was semi-low around 20% or so before this all happened. So I let it fully charge again hoping that'd help, but nothing. I'm at a loss of what to do next.
NOTE: This is all original and is stock everything. I've never modded this tablet or rooted it. I don't understand how the digitizer would just give out for no reason, it hasn't been dropped or anything.
Any other troubleshooting I can do? I've thought about installing the USB drivers and putting it into download mode to flash a custom rom or even the original to see if it'll work, but I don't want to do that unless necessary. If it is the digitizer are these hard to replace and costly?

well replace a screen digitizer require a basic set of skills on mobile repairing. However I found this on ebay (US) http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odk...en.TRS1&_nkw=T217S+screen&ghostText=&_sacat=0
but you can try to flash into latest firmware by samsung and try again
Wondering if someone can help. My boys nexus 7, screen is unresponsive and is stuck on the lockscreen.... It seems the problem happened after a system update downloaded(shown in the image)
Anybody any idea how to fix this
Photo
Try resetting the device by holding the power button.
You could also try to safe mode, by holding the volume down button while booting (safe mode text should appear upon bootup in the bottom left corner).

There are at least 3 possibilities.
1. On some, the touch responsiveness decreases with the battery being drained. In other words, the lower the battery percentage, the more unresponsive the touch becomes. Reaching a certain low level of battery would kill touch completely. But this usually occurs with a tab that has had responsiveness issue all along. If it's something new that takes place only at the downloading of the update, then it might not be. Just to make sure, turn it off completely, charge it fully, then turn it on again.
2. The touch problem just occurs out of the blue. You want to make sure the hardware is not at fault. The only way to do this is to remove the back cover and reseat the two-pronged amber cable from the digitizer, and the white/silver cable connecting the daughter card to the main board. If there's a problem of this kind, no amount of software workaround will cure it.
3. The update is the culprit. If this is the case, the only thing to do would be to flash another rom (preferably a custom one that has more or less been sanitized by a known dev.
If you have a lot of data you're not willing to part with, then you can try an OTG USB mouse to navigate and allow the update to install to see if the tab would return to normal after. I wouldn't advise this route since I've heard and read a lot about people bricking the tab from taking automatic updates. Stay away from anything official if you can help it.
i have this awesome tablet for a good time. it's the wifi edition with 16gb black. this week i noticed when the tablet goes on rest mode, the screen turns dark (as usual) but when i want to us the tablet, the screen remains dark. i could hear the notification. i had to restart the device and quickly start using the tablet before the screen goes dark again. i noticed the message on the screen stating "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in kies and try again." i connected my tablet to my laptop and no success. i called samsung and they told me to press the vol+, power button & home key for 40 secs and nothing happened.
i am turning to the great forum to ask for help. all my stuffed are on the tablet memory. at this point i don't care about it as long as someone can help me bring my awesome tablet back to life. i never rooted it at all.
please, help me.
I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to this kind of thing, but I do know that on the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition booting into recovery is slightly different than it is on most other Samsung devices. Where most Samsung's are power button + volume up + home key (like Samsung rep said), with the Note 10.1 2014 edition it's just the first two, power + volume up. Here is a link that will describe step by step how to do it as getting the timing right can be a little bit tricky if you have not done it before. http://mobileaddons.blogspot.com/2014/05/how-to-hard-reset-factory-reset-samsung_9205.html There is probably the same instructions here on xda somewhere if you do a search... I just googled it and that is what it gave me. If you need end up having to boot it in download mode, thats the power and volume down keys, just push and hold both (if I remember correctly). It sounds like it may have attempted to update to lollipop but the update failed for whatever reason, but I could be wrong. What exactly did the Samsung rep tell you to do? a hard reset/factory reset (which will wipe all your stuff), or did they say to attempt the update via kies? Just curious
hi thebadwrench, i followed and tried the instructions you shared and my tablet does not respond at all it stays dark and does not even respond when i plug the charger in. there are no feedback or sounds at all. i do not know what else to do.
Hmmmm. You may have a hardware failure if it is not responding to anything at all. I know others have experienced problems with the screen flickering and/or quit working as result of a loose or disconnected electrical connection internally. It might be worth removing the rear cover of your tablet to look for something like that. I don't know how comfortable you'd be with that, but it's actually pretty easy to do. I recently replaced both the battery and charging port on mine and posted some pictures in this thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10-2014/help/q-instructions-tips-replacing-usb-t3345093 I'd just disconnect both ribbon cables and reconnect them. While your in there (and this has worked for some people) simply unplugging the battery for a few minutes then reconnect it. Kinda resets the tablet (you shouldnt lose anything saved on tablet, assuming your able to revive it). If your not comfortable with digging into your tablet, take it to a phone/electronics repair place and for a fee they could do it for you, or better yet they may be able to diagnose the problem definitively. Other than that, I'm out of ideas. Sorry to hear that your having issues, let us know what happens
I followed the steps and my screen is back on but it is stuck in recovery mode. It shows the green Android guy and says downloading but nothing for the last 10 minutes. What do I do?
Good to hear you got your screen back on. As for it being stuck in recovery mode... just to clarify, what exactly did you do to get it to the screen its on now (i. e. did you just attempt to power it on, or pwr + vol. up buttons, etc). It might be best to just send me a personal message...
How do I send you a personal message?
