Hi, recently I flashed the 4.4 Cyanogenmod Nightly for my T-Mobile Galaxy S4
And whenever I call, or get a call, My screen will stay black. I hit the power or the home button, and the screen will flash on, but It will turn back off when I try to get the keypad working, or try to turn off the call. Its very frustrating, and I ended up making my power button end call to actually end the calls. Is this a bug? Is the sensor on my phone broken? Rom issue? I have no idea.

You can easily test the sensors (and many other things) dial *#0*#
That will tell you if the sensors are working correctly!
Aloha and good Luck!

Sometimes I am using the (front) speaker phone or the caller's voice is loud. In both cases I end up holding the phone away from my ear and the backlighting will not go off. Is there a way to force the backlight off during a call?
the proximity sensor isnt that impressive for me. it doesnt work on when its over your hair. i have a feeling it would be more impressive if i was bald.
I tried pushing the power button during a test call and it seemed to work to turn off the screen but not disconnect the call. Maybe that is all there is to it.

Correct
i think my light sensor is messed up. when i make a call the screen immediately turns off as if its pressed against my face. and its almost impossible to get the screen to come on until the other person hangs up and ends the call. pressing the power button doesnt bring the screen on but sometimes the home button does bring the homescreen up but if i click on the dialpad the screen turns off again because it thinks its against my face. the way i get the screen on to make the dialpad to appear is turning on a light and holding the light sensor against it and the screen comes on. the samsung rom and the aosp roms do the same thing so its not rom related. but atleast the samsung rom had the option to turn the light sensor off for phone calls but i dont think the pacman rom has this option. does paranoid, aokp, or cyanogenmod have a feature for this so i can make phone calls, or is there any apps out there anyone can point me to to help me out? i think this will be the last samsung phone, to many problems. this is my 2nd note and it doesnt work now
anyone?
everytime I make a call on my phone the screen goes blank as if the phone has turned off (the call still goes through).
after the call the screen doesnt come back on.
I have to hold the power button in to reset the phone.
I done a factory resetbut still the same issue.
Any ideas people?

it might be your proximity sensor..
Whenever you make a call and hold the phone near your ear the proximity sensor detects this low distance between your phone and you and turns the screen off (maybe to save battery) ..
it means your proximity sensor might be damaged...
I'd recommend you to download CPUZ and check if the proximity sensor is working properly by holding your hand near and from the phone.. you should get 2 values:
0 cm while holding your hand near the phone
5 cm while holding away
you can also check out the lg hidden menu by typing in dialer
3845#*975# - lg e975
3845#*970# - lg e970
in the hidden menu goto DEVICE TEST then INDIVIDUAL ITEM then KEY PRESS TEST ..
Test it by holding your hand near away as i explained above ..
if the proximity sensor is working well.. I'd recommend you to factory reset
thanks I will give that a go.
btw I have already tried a factory reset.

Hi, did you get your phone working good when making a call? I have the same problem with mine and cant figure out how to fix it.
Hi does anyone know how to make it so the screen turns on automatically when an incoming call comes? Right now, I have my phone on vibrate so I know an incoming call is coming, but I have to press the power button to see the screen and swipe to answer the call. Is there a way so the screen can come on automatically?
Also, is there a way to keep the screen black during the call, unless I press the power button? RIght now, when I'm talking to someone on speaker phone, the screen stays on or comes back on if I move the phone close to my face. Any suggestions are welcome.
Sounds like you have a problem with your proximity sensor...

Do you know how to fix that? I would like the screen to come on as soon as a call comes. Typically I have to wait for at least 2-3 rings.

Hello brother! i have the same problem. its actually an issue of your proximity sensor. its common with this phone.
there is not permanent fix for this ( other then disassembling the phone and correctly attaching the proximity sensor to the glass).
what i do is i press from the front cam side but not covering the sensor. it gives a display. this is a temporary fix.
one more thing. take off your back cover. and press the sensor area with your fingers. apply pressure but not enough to damage the touch. i did this two days ago and seems like it is fixed for me.
hope this help you.
