i think my light sensor is messed up. when i make a call the screen immediately turns off as if its pressed against my face. and its almost impossible to get the screen to come on until the other person hangs up and ends the call. pressing the power button doesnt bring the screen on but sometimes the home button does bring the homescreen up but if i click on the dialpad the screen turns off again because it thinks its against my face. the way i get the screen on to make the dialpad to appear is turning on a light and holding the light sensor against it and the screen comes on. the samsung rom and the aosp roms do the same thing so its not rom related. but atleast the samsung rom had the option to turn the light sensor off for phone calls but i dont think the pacman rom has this option. does paranoid, aokp, or cyanogenmod have a feature for this so i can make phone calls, or is there any apps out there anyone can point me to to help me out? i think this will be the last samsung phone, to many problems. this is my 2nd note and it doesnt work now
anyone?

I have an annoying problem with my HD Mini.
While talking on the phone the screen goes black which is normal and useful property. But my phone does not wake up, especially at darker conditions. It doesn't wake up even I press any button on the phone (stand-by button, volume button, home, back etc.)
For example, when i call someone in a dark place and the voicemail answered the phone, i couldn't hang up the phone because the screen doesn't come back and none of the buttons work. In this case, the only solution is either to remove the battery or place the phone under bright light to hang up the phone.
I've tried touch in call screen tweak but it doesn't work on my hd mini.
OS Version: 5.2.23103 (23103.5.3.3)
ROM Version: 1.36.401.1 (94538) WWE
Manila Version: 2.5.20131825.3
Can somebody please help me???

that's normal behaviour of proximity sensor, anyway you can hang up by pushing the hard button
what you have said is one of the main problems since the telephone doesn't wake up even i press the hard buttons.

hmmm that's weird..
i read somewhere here on forum that a guy had the same problem and he just opened up the phone(not only battery cover) and cleaned the proximity sensor of dust and then everything worked as it should.
btw..i tested last night in dark to place a call in dark room, and when i put the phone away from my ear backlight was on ,so it should be on even in dark room...
p.s. be sure u didnt install any app which has option to change settings of sensor, like CHT
I will try to open up the phone and clean the proximity sensor.
But this still doesn't explain the wake-up failure even i press the hard buttons. Is there a setting about this issue which disables the hard buttons while talking?
here is the post of guy who had this problem on the same phone and he solved by cleaning the sensor

Hi,
I'm new Android user so sorry if my question sound stupid
for a short call the screen will be brighter when i move away my phone from my ear and i can tap on the end button on the screen, but the problem is when i make a long phone call say 30 minutes the screen is turned off (after in dim state for several minutes) and moving the phone away from my ear doesn't turn on the screen back, hence i can't press the end call.
is this the default nature of android phone?
of course i can press the power button to turn on the screen and then press the end call button on screen, but this is tedious and just annoying that i have to press power button and then end call button to end a call.
so how to turn on screen automatically when i want to end call after a long conversation?
Something is wrong with your setup.
As soon as you put the phone near your face the proximity sensor should turn the screen off (not dim, off) then when you move phone away again the screen lights up. The phone screen shouldn't go to sleep.
Check all your settings to make sure you haven't over-ridden the proximity sensor.
What ROM / Kernel / Radio are you using (if nor stock)?

thank you
I just got my new AT&T S3 a few days ago, and there's a problem I seem to be having with every single phone call I make or receive.
During the call, the screen goes dark, and none of the buttons seem to be able to wake it up again until the other party hangs up. I've literally had to rip my Otterbox off and yank the battery out to hang up during one call to an IVR system that just wouldn't hang up on its own (I guess I could have pressed the right combination of buttons to force a reboot, but at that point I was in no mood to spend 5 minutes experimenting with different permutations of power, vol-, and vol+ to find the magic combo).
Here's what I think might be happening. Note that I haven't exhaustively spent lots of time debugging it yet, on the theory that if it's a common bug, somebody else already has:
Call begins.
Hall Effect sensor triggered by proximity to face. Screen turned off, touchscreen input disabled.
Display settings ticking away in the background force timeout after N seconds. Ignores the fact that the display is already off, and puts the phone to sleep "for real" (at least, the part handling the UI), neglecting to re-enable the power button first.
I'm done with my call. I move the phone away from my face to hang up (or pull up the keypad to enter a selection). Hall Effect sensor broadcasts intent to turn on screen and re-enable touchscreen, and its intent falls on deaf ears because the phone is officially asleep and ignoring it.
Panic. Press power button. Seemingly ignored (though the phone might be waking up enough to see a note telling it to ignore the button, and going back to sleep without further action).
Anger. Press home button. Press volume buttons. Swear violently, and get really mad.
(other party hangs up; lock gets released, phone is awakened and problem seems to go away)
or...
(furiously press various two- and three-finger combinations of power, vol+, vol-, and home until either the call terminates or the phone reboots)
For what it's worth, the same bug show up if I make a call in my car, but the bluetooth call-control button DOES work, even though the phone itself appears to be a darkened unresponsive brick, and triggering a hangup via bluetooth wakes it back up again. I KNOW this isn't due to Tasker or anything, because I've had this problem literally since I made my first call on the new phone to terminate my Sprint account, when it was 100% stock and virgin.
I had the same problem with my white s3 . Then I changed the screen protector and cleansed the proximity sensor with a dust free cloth and haven't had any problems since
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Well, I found the root of my problem: the S3's proximity sensor isn't a Hall Effect sensor, it's near-infrared... and the plastic shell on my case is yellow, which meant it was reflecting too much near-infrared light back into the sensor and triggering it continuously from the moment the LED turned on. I ended up blackening the plastic that surrounds the sensor using a Sharpie marker, and it solved the problem.
Samsung S3 won't hang up
I have the same problem and found that I can insert earphones to phone to make light come back on. After looking at this forum I also noticed a setting (which I haven't tried yet). It's the 3rd from last under settings. Settings-Accessibility-Answering/ending calls-The power key ends calls.
I'm hoping that will work.
So I have PA v2.54STABLE and whenever I call or recieve a call and my screen turns off, I can't turn it back on and my nothing comes up on my screen but my buttons light up. Does anyone know what happened or how I can fix this/prevent it? Basically my screen just doesn't come back on and I have to restart my whole phone
My RN5P(IND),suffers from a problem that annoys me.
When I make calls or receive calls, the screen automatically shuts down and it wont turn back on again, even if you tap the screen, press the buttons present on the phone. You cant cut the call either. It happens 40% most of the time. Then after a moment only the screen lightens up.
What do I do and do others experience this?

May be it's due to a problem in Proximity sensor.
