You have to get use to that situation cause it's normal and repairs won't help too long For now every ROM for HOV supports sweep2wake and tap2wake additionally, Igonrance have that amazing Lidroid panel with reboot and shutdown action or you can install some apps for such actions
Yeah I've been using Those amazing features until now , but yesterday my battery died.. and i had a really tough time powering my HOV on, and it seems kinda useless to have a powerbutton and not use it..So i was wondering, will the Service Center recognize if I relock my bootloader and flash Ruu again and give it for repairs?

I haven't tried it but some users in different internet communities say that service centers repair their phones under warranty if hardware (not software) is the fault reason. Even if it has been unlocked or rooted. Of course it might depend on country or even on the service center guy mood.
So I guess you may try flashing the appropriate RUU (to restore the stock software as possible) and asking service center to replace the faulty button. And you may ask if this will cost you in advance. =)
Edit: and could you please share your experience if you will try.

Thanks for your reply, I will try it tomorrow and ask the service center about it and will report back surely.
Edit: I got it repaired from HTC, although the service guy was a fool, he just repaired the phone and gave it back, didn't even check bootloader or anything, feels good to have my power button back

Hi Guys,
I have a Desire with restart problem. I contacted with HTC and they say "you must send your phone and repair process can take minimum 10 days"
I'm not accept this, this phone already has manufacturing defect and HTC knows that already. Why ı should wait at least 10 days for it. HTC must collect all defekt desire's and they must change with new ones.
This is not my problem, this problem belongs to HTC and they must change the phone or they must dramatically decrease the repair process (max 1-2 days)
how long have you had the phone for and where are you from?
This is how all manufacturers work - the only way you'd get a quick swap would be to go to the shop you bought it from and see if they'll do something for you.

I don't know where you are physically located, but different consumer laws apply in different countries.
Here in the UK, your contract of purchase is with whomever sold you the phone, not with HTC, so your first port of call should always be the seller, and these rights are in addition to any warranty that HTC provide. HTC's obligations under the warranty will be detailed in their warranty statement, but again this may vary from state to state.
You need to look into the consumer rights laws in your own particular country to determine if you have any right to complain about the delay in getting a repair.
Regards,
Dave

I live in Turkey. I will be 14-21 September in Germany. If they can not change or repair my desire until 21 September they must send it via regular post. (+10 days)
If you've had the phone for 3 months, your chances of getting replacement are probably slim to non-existent, so a repair is your best bet, though I'm assuming that German consumer protection rights are similar to the UK.
You could however try kicking up a fuss in a Vodafone DE store, since they sold the original device. They might offer an exchange just to keep you quiet!

Dave
so.. you rooted and installed a custom rom, and now desire has rebooting problem and you expect HTC to replace the phone for free?

based on his post history.. he got reboot problem after flashing custom rom (leedroid 1.8)
if so, its sad, that they blame others for mistakes they did themself.
sad world we are living in...
Didn't check other posts, first thing would be for the OP to go back to stock and see if it works. If it does then it's the ROM and but either way it's currently not HTCs fault...

yes my desire is rooted, so what?
Is this illegal? ıs this a fault?
the restart problem about the hardware not because of rom or special programs.
With custom rom or not HTC should collect all faulty devices from customers and give a new one.
Custom ROM = NO WARRANTY!!!
Send it back to HTC and you'll get laughed at and it sent right back to you - put the stock ROM back on it and if it's still the same then you can send it off for repair

I'm agree with you. It can be out of warranty.
I'm telling you guys an another story, right?
What I'm saying is before you can send it back to HTC you need to go back to a stock ROM. If the rebooting issues stop then you know it's the custom ROM that was the issue. If not HTC are obliged under their warranty to repair/replace the device

Not necessarily!
Have you tried returning the device to the stock ROM?
Also, with some custom ROMs you can overclock your CPU and thus "cook" it. Since this cannot be done on a stock ROM, who's fault would that be? Note that I'm not saying that you have OC'd - I'm just pointing out that installing a custom ROM does have the potential to damage the hardware.

Sorry, but that is incredibly naive! The simple facts of the matter are that if you have rooted your device, you *may* have inadvertently damaged the hardware. If that is the case, it is not HTC's fault, so why should they replace/repair your device free of charge?
If you are going to return your device to HTC, I strongly suggest you return it to stock configuration before you do so, because if you don't they may refuse to repair it under the warranty.

Dave

Hello,
I have been using this phone for the past 3 months and I haven't had any problems. I recently upgraded to version 2.3.5 and everything was ok with noticeable improvements to battery backup also.
The problem started yesterday when the phone restarted twice on its own and I thought there must be a problem with some running processes and I decided to switch off and on the phone. After switching off, I haven't been able to turn on the phone back again. There is no display when I press the power key, and initially it used to vibrate briefly when I power ON and now it has stopped doing that also.
I have tried different recovery methods from the internet by removing the battery, sim and memory card and even trying to get into recovery mode. The phone seems to be completely dead now with the key back lights illuminating when connected to the charger being the only response in the phone.
Please help me in identifying the problem and recovering the phone.
Have you rooted your phone ?
Rooted and installed ClockworkMod ROM manager
Yes, I have rooted the phone and this problem started after installing ClockworkMod ROM manager. I have currently given the phone for service.
Since the phone is currently not powering ON, can the service personnel find out if I have rooted the phone thereby making the warranty void? If the warranty is void what options do I have?
Mostly they will not notice ..... Have they got back to you ?
The reason why it crashed is because no one has made a CWM Recovery for the XT530 ... .. This phone really has poor development support its soo sad ...

Motherboard replacement for dead motorola fire xt
Motorola service hasn't been able to flash the device with proper firmware and now they have decided to change the motherboard. They say it will take a few more days to get the motherboard possibly from their office from Bangalore. Keeping my fingers crossed till I get back the phone and hopefully there aren't any new problems with the new motherboard.

I am still waiting for the service center to replace the motherboard and I hope to get it this week.
Since the phone is completely dead, they haven't been able to establish a connection via USB and hence they haven't found out that the phone was rooted earlier.

First they changed the motherboard but still the phone did not work. i sent the phone again and then they said that the battery had been locked and then they unlocked the battery and my phone got working!!......

Great to hear that you have got your phone back in working condition. Mine is still in the service center and they say it will take a few more days to get the replacement motherboard. I do have the following questions regarding your serviced phone.
- What do you mean by "battery has been locked"? What happens and how to detect the same.
- Did you get your replacement motherboard with the updated 2.3.5 software?

That is really really bad service from Motorola. What reasons were they giving you for the delay over a period of a month? It has already been frustrating without the phone for the last 2 weeks and thinking of waiting for few more weeks and not days is making me literally mad ...
Is there anyway we can escalate the issue to get a better and faster response from them?

Its really very difficult to contact the service center over the phone as they rarely answer calls. I have now tried registering a complaint with Motorola customer care in order to escalate the issue. The problem is they are very vague about the time it would take to get the phone serviced. In this day and age if you cannot give a definitive commitment then it is very difficult to sustain.

Got back the phone but GPS not working
I finally got back my phone from the service center and have upgraded to version 2.3.5. I have restored all my settings and applications and everything seems to be fine except for GPS.
GPS does not work now and it does not detect any satellites. I have tried various GPS specific applications and also tried some SW fixes and still there is no improvement. I think there is no other alternative other than to take it back to the Motorola service center to get this problem fixed. The GPS was working fine before they replaced the motherboard. Is there any HW fix possible for the GPS radio?
My phone is still in service center now from past 12 days ..
Hi everyone! My phone's capacitive buttons stopped working all of a sudden. I've tried everything including the factory reset, so obviously from what I've read it must be hardware problem. Would this problem have to do with the digitizer? Is there ANY way that this can be repaired? I would send it for repairs but it is rooted and I guess the warranty is voided. :crying:

If you have unlocked the bootloader the warranty is not void,
Email from HTC:
Thank you for your email regarding your HTC One X.
My name is Ozgur and I'm the technical customer service support for the HTC Mail Team.
If the error of the device is not the direct result of unlocking the bootloader or placing a custom ROM, then the device just repaired under warranty. This has always been HTC policy.
HTC normally rejects an unlocked device for warranty if the error of the device is the direct result of unlocking the bootloader or placing a custom ROM. If the warranty has been rejected before, and the fault is an unlock or custom rom, we do not expect that the decision will be different now. We can say that with certainty, however, only if we have inspected the device in our repair center.
So.. you can either flash a ROM to try and see if the hardware is faulty, or just send it in for repair.

Yes, a digitizer replacement will solve the problem. I assume you've fixed it or moved on by now. For whomever else, the digitizer piece can be purchased on ebay for 40-45 dollars. There are youtube videos explaining how to disassemble the phone for the digitizer replacement. Good luck to all.

Go to Craigslist for your city. There are people who will do this for $80 or so for this phone. And of course you can always use Google to find shops you can ship to. If you're good with your hands, the Youtube videos give a decent enough tutorial for a careful novice to complete the repair.
My HTC One M8 got bricked while updating to android 4.4.4 (eye experience). According to futuretel, the warranty is only active for three months without a receipt. There's a lesson here, always keep your receipts. Also if it was broken already then you should have had it replaced. Unless you caused the damage then they won't replace it regardless because you could be the reason why it bricked

Learnt the hard way. The phone was working perfectly fine except for the power button. After the update, the phone was stuck in a boot loop between update symbol and low battery. I pulled out the sd card and now its just showing a flashing red light. I am going to get the power button fixed just now and get the technician to diagnose any other issues.
Did you happen to buy the device with a credit card? This almost always will suffice as a proof of purchase or receipt.
If your phone was in a loop when the battery died, its not bricked.

Its technically bricked but there are tools that you could use to fix it, but I doubt you want to take that much effort in fixing it.
So what was the point of this thread? You obviously don't want to fix it. So you just wanted to whine about it? Good luck on your next phone, don't brick that one too.
Pretty sure my m8 is bricked
Hey i sort of hi-jacked this thread , however it relates to my matter. I tried to convert my HTC into google play edition, I s -off, unlocked the boot loader and rooted it. Now for the fun part I went to flash a google m8 rom and BAM boot loaader came up with tampered and not only that the rom didn't work and now the htc boot screen (the white one) has a lock on the bottom and i can't do anything. I can access TWRP and have flashed other roms to it but it keeps denying them and going to the same htc boot screen with that lock symbol. Anyone please help I just got this phone and feel like I should never gotten myself mixed in this modding business lol . Thanks for anyone that can help me resolve this.

The only viable solution I came across is JTAG. Can you please share those tools? Phones shouldn't be bricking when updating on stock
recently i bricked my phone and it's in edl mode which I had posted here also where people told me to go to service center and do edl flashing but but will they ask money ig they can't because my phone is under warranty and its just 2 months old so any ideas that they'll ask for money
When you get there, just act like you don't know what happened. Tell them that it turned off during a system update and it's not turning on, and keep all that power user XDA knowledge locked away somewhere
Software update failures are pretty common so they won't ask many questions as long as the phone's under warranty, you might be charged a small service fee though. This is just one way I would go about it, there might be better options.

Sad to hear that but I guess u should try all available options before heading to the Service center like flashing stock firmware using Miflash tool in EDL mode. If nothing works then service center is the last resort, however IMO they will ask for small amount of fee for restoring the stock firmware.

It’s all good if it ends all well. However, I am more pleased with your second post. Tinkering Smartphone always seems too easy until it get completely screwed as it was in your case.
And speaking of Staff at service centre, they are just doing their job (though some of them do try to fool the customer seek some monetary benefits indirectly), not all of them are passionate about tech as u or people like us on XDA are. Anyways enough lecturing......
Good luck & Happy Flashing!!!!!
