I am looking to upgrade to the Sprint LG G2, and the deciding factor is how LG handles the root/ROM community. My current phone is the OG Photon, which Motorola permalocked the bootloader, then canceled ICS. Even unlocked, Motorola had terrible driver support, where camcorders, 4G and more would break on custom ROMs. Being on Gingerbread yet sucks, as such I refuse to buy a phone that can't be unlocked(T-Mobile has horrible coverage in my area, or I'd have bought a Nexus 4 long ago). So I'd like to see the opinions of the OG, to see how support is, and to see how easy it is to unlock. I understand how stock Android functions, but I have a Nexus 10. I'm used to 'fastboot oem unlock' and pure AOSP support/factory images and such haha. Does LG release the stock ROMs or bootloaders or anything? Does LG even use stock fastboot? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to not get burned again(Motorola.....).

The LGOG community has been amazing!
We all here are one big family trying to make sure our device stays up to date with the latest & greatest. I can't thank our Devs enough for all the hard work they put in.

I actually looked here to make sure there was development for this phone before I purchased it, Optimus G running Vectus rom makes me smile each time I pick up my phone.
Its growing by the day! I just got this phone 1 month ago and there was an alright amount of ROMs. but now in the past month there was over 6 new ROMs!! Were getting up there.

I came from the DROID RAZR, and this phone feels like a beast compared to that. Granted, Verizons network was better but I left them on principal. I haven't rooted yet, but I will in 10 more days (return period). I don't believe I will flash a custom ROM right off the bat though because the stock ROM is plenty smooth and does what it's supposed to. That's so not like Motoblur. It was almost necessary to root and flash in order to have a decent user experience on the Motorola phones (I've had 3). I'm pleasantly surprised by this phone and its stock ROM though. If you pick this phone it won't be a mistake.

+1, I have had my phone about 2 months and since then it has gone from a handful of ROMs to 10+, I was even inspired to make my own ROM.
Soon its going to be like the s3 thread.

Lots of development going on! It really is sweet. When I first got here, there were only a few different choices. I had a ton of trouble getting my first builds together(and still do ), but the devs and users here were very knowledgible and helpful. It is one of the best forums I have had the pleasure of being a part of! And we're still rolling out more!.....

Don't play with my heart like that man, lol. I know for a fact that we'll get 4.3 eventually, as well as maybe an official LG update to..... Whatever it is that they're planning on shipping the G2 with (4.2.1 or 4.2.2?). We have a flagship phone with some high end specs. If we don't get an official update for our phones from LG, it'll be because of just outright neglect.
That's what AOSP is for though, I guess.

Did anyone else just have a message from T-Mobile pop on the screen about something to with an update?
Just curious because I just did twice, but each time it stated something about me running an unofficial version of android.
After several restarts it popped up again except this time I was able to grab a screen shot of it. I hope this is really it.

That is likely the official 4.4 update!
Sweet!
Too bad I have to revert to pure stock to check for the metro version as I'm already running the sprint port.

I'm working on trying to get back to pure stock via odin 10% downloaded of stock firmware for metro.

Ok. Downgraded to metro stock and lost root. Still get same notification bit that means that metro may have pushed the update to.

Nothing for T-Mobile T999 in my area yet. Make sure you guys mention your device model, carrier, and current build too please. These will all make a difference.
There has been no kernel source released yet though and from what I've seen recently they've been releasing that before or at the same time as the updates. Doesn't mean anything for sure but figured it'd be worth mentioning.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
Nothing for me either, says its up to date for my T999, just flashed to NC2 to check :/
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
Oh, and if you get the update and want to pull it so you can share it here, this is what you do.
Let the update fully download, but when ready choose postpone. Next flash twrp via Odin, then reboot into recovery. Use the built in file manager to copy the update.zip to your sdcard. I think it will be in /data/fota or maybe in /cache. If not just look around for the fota folder.
Or if you choose, flash the supersu zip after booting recovery, then reboot, install a root browser and copy it that way.

I haven't had it pop up again since the last time.
I don't recall where I seen that doc, I could be completely thinking of something else not too sure.
If you've flashed back to purely stock you can force it to check. Go to settings, about device, software update. What is your current firmware build? Were you using a custom rom when you got that?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
No pop-up for me... T-Mobile user here..
I flashed to stock, but I'm not exactly sure the Odin files I used were up to date and couldn't check due to needing to flash cwm in order to get it to boot fully.
Had to clear dalvik for it to boot after 1hr of waiting.

Would be good if we can know what rom he was using(or still using)when that happend...
Are there any roms for v810 lte yet. Is it worth rooting and flashing? I know with root I can remove bloatware. Its still running 4.2.2.

This is a great place to start: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2759270. We are very fortunate to have anything at this point and the ROM will get better if Verizon releases a KitKat update for our VK810's.
Because its Verizon the bootloader locked?

If you read the Verizon LTE thread in the general section, there is an exploit for the boot loader, doesnt matter if its locked
Problem would be the lack of developers. I consider myself a junior developer, don't have that much experience with android kernel/building yet... Other more accomplished devs either are too busy or can't get their hands on this Verizon exclusive device. One way would be having someone willing to send their device to a Dev willing to spend time to fix cm11, or have community contribute enough money for that Dev to buy a device from a Verizon store/ craigslist
I'm still running 4.2.2 I'm trying to root using kingo but the USB debug option isn't highlighted I can't turn it on.
I want to run cm11 I have the lte gpad

Hi I was just wondering about the Verizon version of this tablet SM-T807. I just got this one from VZW, and I've searched everywhere to try and understand what root methods are available and it's proving to be kind of confusing. I've rooted all my phone's for the past 4-5 yrs Droid, several Samsungs, LG..and have never had to ask a question on any of the threads here...I have plenty of experience using Odin, ADB...etc and alot of other tools. But everything I find seems to be for the 800, 805, or 807 for Sprint and ATT. The Verizon rep started the lollipop upgrade before I left the store, so I hadn't been able to try the unified tool or any other possible methods since I need to downgrade to KitKat to make it all alot easier. So I guess my question is, is there any method that may work for my tab now that's running 5.0.2, and if not is there an Odin-able image for the VZW variant to flash back to stock? I just keep reading conflicting info from different places and don't wanna brick it beyond repair. Thanks for any help.

That rep has just killed any chance you had of getting root.
There are no other root methods available for your device.
I don't think the Verizon tablet has root for KitKat either?
I started looking into this last night also since I'm considering Verizon as my next carrier.
That's what I was afraid of. Thanks for the reply.

is there any root to date that works, i still have a 4.4.2 and i just got the tab today.
Im going to get forced into the update sometime in the next day or so now that the tablet downloded it.
I've spend 6 hours so far trying to root this.
No luck so far.

Just copy the update to another folder then disable any more future updates. Updates are not compulsory.
What have you used to root, there are several options for root.

Well when you come up with the bootloader unlocking method you'll be a hero.
I wish this could be downgraded to kitkat, the lollipop on t807v is causing problems with my touch screen and I have read a lot of comments from users facing a touchscreen problem after the upgrade. Lets pray its sooner !
Thanks
My t807v is freezing a lot too. I bought it on eBay and thought it was defective but it seems to be a widespread problem I'm going to try to take it to Verizon and ***** at them because mine freezes every 10 seconds or so. Makes it unusable.

It can't be rooted without a system exploit.
It took 2 years to exploit the verizon note 4, shouldnt be much longer on the 807V
Is there any update on this? Do we have a stock rom to downgrade to 5.5 available
I was just wondering if there was a working root for the Verizon version yet?

You need to mail it out to jcase or beaups however.
$25 for the service + you pay to and from.

We all would prefer to do it ourselves.
The VZW M9 took a year for App support.
So keep that in mind.
Luckily they are even offering this service or we'd be SOL.
If you create an exploit, please do share.
Now if only there was support for my Moto Z I would be golden!

So if I get this verizon htc 10 and send it out too to them it says on their site they will s-off/unlock/root and flash twrp. Does the "unlock" mean they will unlock the boot loader? If so can I flash other roms besides the ones in just the verizon htc10 forum. There is only one stock deodexed/tweaked Rom so far, well as of last night when I looked and a custom stock kernel. I'm talking about roms like viper, or , vipre not sure of the correct spelling. Will they work on the verizon device?
