Verizon SM-T807V Root? - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I was just wondering about the Verizon version of this tablet SM-T807. I just got this one from VZW, and I've searched everywhere to try and understand what root methods are available and it's proving to be kind of confusing. I've rooted all my phone's for the past 4-5 yrs Droid, several Samsungs, LG..and have never had to ask a question on any of the threads here...I have plenty of experience using Odin, ADB...etc and alot of other tools. But everything I find seems to be for the 800, 805, or 807 for Sprint and ATT. The Verizon rep started the lollipop upgrade before I left the store, so I hadn't been able to try the unified tool or any other possible methods since I need to downgrade to KitKat to make it all alot easier. So I guess my question is, is there any method that may work for my tab now that's running 5.0.2, and if not is there an Odin-able image for the VZW variant to flash back to stock? I just keep reading conflicting info from different places and don't wanna brick it beyond repair. Thanks for any help.

That rep has just killed any chance you had of getting root.
There are no other root methods available for your device.

I don't think the Verizon tablet has root for KitKat either?
I started looking into this last night also since I'm considering Verizon as my next carrier.

That's what I was afraid of. Thanks for the reply.

is there any root to date that works, i still have a 4.4.2 and i just got the tab today.
Im going to get forced into the update sometime in the next day or so now that the tablet downloded it.
I've spend 6 hours so far trying to root this.
No luck so far.

Just copy the update to another folder then disable any more future updates. Updates are not compulsory.
What have you used to root, there are several options for root.

There is also the desktop version of kingroot which has had some success.

Well when you come up with the bootloader unlocking method you'll be a hero.

I wish this could be downgraded to kitkat, the lollipop on t807v is causing problems with my touch screen and I have read a lot of comments from users facing a touchscreen problem after the upgrade. Lets pray its sooner !
Thanks

My t807v is freezing a lot too. I bought it on eBay and thought it was defective but it seems to be a widespread problem I'm going to try to take it to Verizon and ***** at them because mine freezes every 10 seconds or so. Makes it unusable.

Yes people please develope root asap! I'm getting involved pretty deeply in android software development but still a little green... is there a good site that explains it a little so I could work on it myself?

Still no luck on a root for the sm-t807v??!!

It can't be rooted without a system exploit.

It took 2 years to exploit the verizon note 4, shouldnt be much longer on the 807V

Is there any update on this? Do we have a stock rom to downgrade to 5.5 available

Sorry bro but I wouldn't hold my breath for any tmobile update. They always have some lame excuse like we're testing for months and months...good news is you can have 4.3 and apps to sd NOW if you root and install a custom rom. Look in the roms change log and it will tell you if its 4.3 and all other features it has. i have apps to sd now with my current rom. So if you don't want to wait for God knows how long you can get these things you want now by rooting. Also you can change back to stock and unroot if you like so its not a permanent thing. There are some wonderful how to root threads in tmobile android development section. Look in the forum for tmobile Samsung galaxy and find the development section where the roms are kept and you should find a how to guide.read read read and when your comfortable with the procedure proceed to root your device. You won't regret it for a second. Best wishes. Otherwise you can wait on tmobile which is likely just going to frusterate you. Ive been with tmobile ten years and my only complaint is their update process.its always one excuse after another why we're not getting our update. So you do have options. You can root and run these things now or wait on tmobile. Its up to you. Best wishes. If your already rooted and just wondering when it will come out my guess is after a newer device is announced. Tmobile is awful when it comes to updates!
Surprisingly the moto x on Tmobile was the first to get the camera fix update. But I guess it's more a patch than an update.

What ticks me off is that this slow update crap is one of the reasons I left Verizon, only to find out it's an issue with t mobile.
Right now I am seriously considering the Nexus 5. For now, thank God I am rooted.
Yes I understand. I went through this with my htc and it makes me furious. It is ALWAYS the same excuse. We're testing and it might take awhile. Its total bs. I honestly think its a marketing strategy of sorts to hold the update as long as possible until the latest and greatest comes out. Then we no longer even care about the update and want to move on..I just don't know why they are this way. I've been with tmobile ten years and I've seen this over and over. Always the same excuse.its really my only complaint about the company. They just won't give us our updates ever so small or large. Until we don't care anymore because we're moving on to something else anyway. Its ridicoulas. So many complain but it seems they turn a deaf ear to our pleas.i was hoping this device would be different and they would send out the update in a timely manner. But its looking like that's not the case. Very frustrating. ..
If you really want bleeding edge updates, check out what happened to the 2013 Nexus 7 and its updates: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2380866
It's bad enough when a tablet reboots randomly; I can't imagine a primary communication device like a smartphone doing the same... you know, like in the middle of a phone call.
I agree with realsis, don't count on T-Mobile. Right now you have 4.3 roms but they might not be perfect, I'm sure when Samsung releases the update with Touchwiz and everything, someone will figure out how to port the features to our S4. This seems like it's been repeated a million times, but latest updates can only come from 2 sources: XDA or directly from Google for Nexus devices.

Pray for the update in Oct 2014
Im sure not waiting till october 2014 for this update. hopefully I'll have jumped over to something else. By that time. .in the meantime I'm going to enjoy what we have available here on xda... tmobile ALWAYS uses the same excuse every update. "Oh were testing it" or " there was a issue with it" having been with tmobile ten years ive heard this over and over. Different device SAME story. This might sound odd but I think they hold their updates as a sort of marketing strategy. They will wait till something even greater is released by the time the updates comes out its so old it does not matter and we jump ship to the latest and greatest... think about it..if they gave our updates as they should be given we might actually be happy with our device therefore less likely to buy the latest and greatest new device... I dont know I can't help but think that they hold these updstes for their OWN reasons.. hopefully I'm wrong but ive seen this before....
Correct me if I'm wrong, the "WATCH " is only compatible with the Note 3 when it's released. I could seriously see T-Mobile waiting to see how many S4 owners are desperate enough to go out purchase the N3 just to get the watch before releasing the update.

No the watch will be compatible with the s3 s4 and note 2 IF they are updated by T-Mobile/Samsung to 4.3.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk 2
They wouldn't do that as marketing strategy because the only people that care about updates are people that know a lot about the phone so if they continued to never update any phones customers would eventually go to other carriers that care about updates versus buying a new phone again that will never get updated

I still think Samsung is in a nice position (in regards to market-share) to push the telcos to release the update. Seems kind of silly anyway since Samsung are the ones creating the update. One leak to SamMobile would put the pressure back on T-Mobile. Samsung has a lot more to gain from watch sales with multiple compatible devices in the wild than they would hoping that people would upgrade to a N3 AND get the watch.
I'll probably still be running CM, but it'll be nice to have an official 4.3 release
I saw a thread somewhere on xda an hour ago about a leaked Sammy 4.3 for the i9500/i9505 trying to find it again to share the link.

Verizon HTC One S-Off Discussion Thread

Here is a place to discuss the current methods of S-Off.
We have Sonic2765's java card which will always work, and a promised method from beaups.
Sonic's Java Card will work on any device.
Sonic's thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2427960
Beaups method will work on any device even with the minor OTA that was released.
So, it seems safe to take the OTA, but I am not responsible if this is incorrect.
This is amazing! Was waiting for this since I didn't have another phone to use so I could send mine to Sonic. Also glad that beaups said that it WILL work with the latest OTA! Just glad for an exploit since my original One had to be exchanged...

That, sir, is great news. Cause I'm sick of getting reminded to update..
Any idea if he hopes to release sometime soon? Or after 4.3 is released?
More than likely after 4.3 would be my guess. We wouldn't want verizon to include a fix for the exploit with 4.3 causing a delay in the release. I don't know for sure, just my guess.

I mean, if he just released it and we had a thread warning everyone wouldn't that be fine?

I agree, most of us will be running custom roms anyway, so there would be no reason really to ota, and also no reason why someone won't just make a safe flashable zip for us after ota is released... The only way the soff method would suck is if they patched it and people with replacement after the update, or just new phone owners wouldn't be able to do it, which is kinda a big deal...

It just needs to be released now. Everyone knows or should know not to take an ota. Ones who takes it well they deserve to possibly be blocked from the exploit. Is he waiting because there maybe issues with his method? Seemed like in the past when an exploit was found it was released rather quickly. Waiting for 4.3 on Verizon will be waiting 6 months. They never released an update when they said they would.

I don't know shall we wait until after 4.3? I suppose even if we wait nothing will stop Verizon from releasing a small ota even after the 4.3 release to patch the exploit. so waiting may not have much benefit ..

It will be released when beaups feels that it is ready to be released. He is probably taking his time to make the process as safe as possible for as many people as possible. Just because he found a method doesn't necessarily mean that it is safe and easy to use in its current form. Be patient and be glad that it exists at all.

Thats a valid point, I just don't see benefit in waiting. but like nexus said, they could release a small patch right after 4.3 and we would have the same outcome. or they may find this exploit before we even release it and the will just patch it in 4.3 either way. But i would like to thank beaups for putting in the time and effort! I know this stuff isn't easy so thanks!
I wish he would make a thread so people could give him thanks and he could give us updates on the process.
I'm not waiting on any vzw updates. Just need to get everything done. It will be done "soon".

Can a Verizon HTC One with 4.4.2 OTA be rooted yet?

The 25th of February was the last time I asked this, and it's been a week and a day since then, so I figured that its an appropriate time to ask.
Can a stock Verizon HTC One (the standard One, not Max, not Mini, not dual-SIM) running stock Android 4.4.2 KitKat OTA be rooted yet?
Thanks,

It'll happen when it happens. I want to root my phone as much as the next guy, particularly so that the titanium backup app I paid good money for will have a purpose, but having previously come from a sprint gs II, the "stock" version of this phone is leagues ahead of others I've seen. Root is almost unnecessary.

Can't agree with you. Verizon installs a bunch of unneeded software which just drains your battery. Also you can't create a hot-spot. That's ridiculous - they're taking money for a built-in android feature. So having root gives you a real advantage of re-flashing your device with custom firmware and getting rid of all the limitations Verizon put on you.

You can disable most of the bloat software. Just go into your settings, go to app manager, go to all and tap on whatever you want to disable. It will make it like the app was never there.

That doesn't exactly fix the problem of the apps taking up valuable space. I kinda agree with both of you. I think that without root this phone, unlike the S4 and others, is mostly enjoyable and still smooth. However, with root it just adds a nice amount of gravy. I like being able to perform nandroids/flash firmwares/etc, use Titanium Backup, flash any rom I please with useful features (like double tap to wake so I don't have to use the poorly placed power button), use Xposed modules, use Adaway, use emulators with a PS3 controller, etc etc.
Root vs not rooted is irrelevant to the OP. The OP wants root.
I highly recommend checking with sonic or checking with mobile tech videos.
It is probably possible to downgrade the firmware to make the phone vulnerable to S-off
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Tapatalk 2
Disagree with those who say rooting is unnecessary. It is like opening a window to endless opportunities on your phone , sort of like Alice through the Looking Glass. It is very worth it. I have been rooted since version 4.2 and to me defines the very concept of Android being open source. Verizon tries to limit the Android like Apple does to the iPhone.

I'm 100% positive you can't downgrade firmware. Sonics java card is the only other possibility. Don't think anyone has had any luck contacting him, though (check out the java card s-off thread). I know I tried before 4.3 was exploited. If mobile tech videos had a method, you would have seen a thread somewhere in this forum.
Basically all I was getting at is that if there's a way to achieve s-off on 4.4.2, there would be chatter here.

No offense, but you are saying neither Sonic nor Mobile Tech Videos have been contacted...
Therefore, your conclusion that it is not possible to downgrade firmware is based on nothing.
Like I said, until I see it from the horses mouth, it is still a possibility. Sonic has achieved S-off for many people and I haven't seen anything to tarnish his good reputation. The Java card will likely work on the latest update.
I do not speak for Sonic nor Mobile Tech Videos. Until either party provides a confirmation themselves, I WILL NOT FALSLEY CONCLUDE IT IS AN IMPOSSIBILITY.
People said the exact and thing about the VZW Note 2. AS IT TURNS OUT, Mobile Tech Videos can downgrade the firmware on the VZW Note 2 with JTag. They confirmed when they were emailed. They charge 75$ for the valuable service.
You may be correct in that there is currently no cost free method to downgrade the firmware on the VZW HTC One on the latest OTA.

I'll give it a shot. It's better than useless naysaying and spreading FUD without the info to back it up.
I will get back with an answer. Unless you beat me to it.

I'm s-off so I don't really care what you come up with. But I'm not just BS'ing. It would be great if people had the option to downgrade firmware so hopefully you can prove me wrong (since you're calling BS on the ability to downgrade...the java card gets you s-off, it doesn't downgrade your firmware. You're only hope is mobile tech to prove me wrong).
Anyways, bickering is even more useless than calling BS with nothing to back it up. I really do wish you luck...it would make a lot of people happy.

Mobile Tech Videos confirmed that they can indeed S-off any, including Kitkat 4.4.2 OTA, VZW HTC One units.
They are charging $75.
No response from the PayPal email address that was used for the transaction with Sonic's S-off procedure. Not yet, anyway.
Mobile Tech Videos has a good reputation and I'm confident they will be true to their word.
Also, there is a new thread unveiling Jcases's root method for 4.4.2 to be unveiled in August.
Certainly not definitive, but I tried numerous times without success to contact Sonic about the java card S-off... I tried PM, text message, tweet, and email with no response. As, I am one of the unlucky ones with the 4.4.2 OTA, I may try the Mobile Tech Videos... anyone ever used them for an HTC Verizon device?

To root or not to root?

Upgraded from a note 2 to a 3 and I'm loving it. I always root and are coming from jedi roms. Is the note 3 that noticeably better rooted? I've read alot of threads where people have many problems. I genuinely wanna root asap but are hesitant. Someone help push me over the edge to flash land

Ok. Let me push you over the edge. I had never considered rooting a phone until I got the note 3. I decided to root so I could customise the pen widow ap. It has been the best thing that I have ever done with a phone. Yes the note 3 can be a little temperamental when attempting to flash ROMS but there is a lot of support and if you need help pm me and I will help to get you going. Going to put in a plug here for my ROM of choice. JEDI ROMS are good but I have not found a better setup so far than X-Note. Any questions about it and I will be glad to answer. Don't let other people's problems change your mind about rooting. This is a must root device.
Thanks mate, is that compatible with tmobile. I checked thread and it looks pretty sweet. I liked the air command themes. I got some questions, I'll pm you

Totally worth it man. Very easy to do as well. Not only the customizations mentioned above but also aosp roms and such are wonderful. W03 Slim is fantastic!
It's so easy to unroot the phone and go back to stock, so you might as well give it a shot and see how you like it. Unless you're completely incompetent then nothing too bad should come out of it. I personally like having my phone rooted without any custom ROMS. But that's just me, a lot of others would say different.
I am hoping to unlock SIM for a t-mobile phone / region unlock. I understand I can do that by rooting it. Can I root and leave it with stock firmware, and will I get OTA updates? Also, is it safe and easy to unroot. IF it's unrooted, will they know it was rooted (i.e. warranty void?)
Thanks
Rooting doesn't void warranty either. I was skeptical too. Rooted on 4.3 and loving it.

Waiting for my phone. Hopefully it's still on 4.3. So can someone confirm I understand everything all this correctly.
I can root with Root de vega (if still on older firmware) and it won't trigger anything to void warranty. I just want to use region unlock to try unlock the sim/region. After that...I can either unroot? or keep it root. IF I keep it root...but I want the latest firmware (not custom)...is that possible? I've seen video about flashing the firmware from Sammobile with Odin which brings it back to unroot stock...but what if I just want the newest stock firmware without unrooting? Do I need some other recovery and flash something else? Will putting in different recovery cuz the warranty tracker to trigger?

ND8 KitKat source is posted on the opensource page..here comes KitKat with 3.4 kernel

Let the ROM watch begin. Here comes ND8 KitKat. CNexus confirms that with this update we will finally be on a 3.4 kernel!

No, you can't install anything from this link. It's source for developers. But it means in the next day or so the roll out of ND8 KitKat will begin OTA.
It's great news.
And as always, don't just excitedly grab the update before you find out what's in it. We don't need another thread full of whiners.
There are plenty of competent people here who can modify the OTA if needed; the last time it took only a few days after the roll-out.
Awesome
Remember, if you get the notification, please try and get the actual file name of the update file and post it here. Once we have that name we can suss out the full download path of the file and it can be downloaded directly from the google server. In the past the path has been:
android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/sprint_samsung_l710/XXXXXXXXXXX
where the X's are replaced by the file name.
Post the filename here if you get it!
Noted.

Cant wait for this one !
If this is anything like KitKat for the Note3 it will be a winner. My Note 3 got way faster when I updated to KitKat. It was the single biggest improvement I have ever seen on a device with an OS update and I started using Android when the Samsung Moment came out on Sprint !

It means they can hax0r it so that it does not take away your phones ability to be rooted and pretty much boring.
So...They hax0r it, you continue to root it, then your phone continues to r0x0rs your b0x0rs all nightx0rs........:victory:
That's basically it. Things can be twisted around a bit if needed and any remaining bugs can be remedied.

We can remove checks of your bootloader version, remove flashing of the new bootloader, etc.
Ah okay. Sounds good. So hold off until a stripped OTA is posted. Got it. Now to just find a 4.4.2 Rom that mimics The S4/5.
yeah im waiting for the @CNexus version.

As soon as I get a link/zip from someone :good:
Finally...now I can update the wife's and daughter's phones....JB really borked the daughters so much so that I told the wife not to update so this will finally relive me of having to answer "my phone keeps telling me to update something, should I?" questions...
And before someone yaps up about "why not root" - it's because I don't want to deal with the bugs/updates/mods on their phones and besides, Flixster (an app they both use a lot) doesn't work on rooted phones (until somebody releases an update to OTA Rootkeeper or other app that hides root).
