[Q] Xperia S LT26i HDD Access without Screen or Device Off? - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

Hoping someone might be able to help me on this as it's driving me mad now: my digitizer on my Xperia S LT26i has broken and is not responding to any touch, there is a whole host of of stuff on the HDD i want to copy to the PC. Is there a way to do this without the phone screen?
I have tried sony PC companion but this states that the screen needs to be unlocked and i have also tried opening the phones folder via file explorer but this is returning nothing (blank and no error message but takes a while to scan the directory).
Are there any other ways to for communication between the HDD and PC? I.E. is there a method to connect the HDD to the PC while to phone is off like a standard flash drive or perhaps a way to control the phone via USB via needing to install or configure anything on the phone itself?

[Bump]
Anyone? I was pondering usb on the go and connecting a wired mouse but not sure if this would be usable on this device? Would like more info before purchasing a USB on the go lead.
Also it would appear that the screen is not responsive as it think it's being pressed all over the scren. I.E. i can launch the camera but the autofucs jumpts all over the place - would this present an issue if using a mouse?

[Q] How do I back up contacts WITHOUT use of phone screen?

Hi All,
I've had a good look through the "contacts" issues and can't see a relevant thread that helps with a 2 point problem so here goes:
I have an Xperia Arc LT15i
It has suffered some water damage, though the indicator is still white.
The screen is completely dead / black rendering the phone unusable.
Connecting the phone to pc with USB lead allows me to access the SD card through PC Companion - this is the good news.
The bad news is I have no way of backing up my contacts to the PC as I assume they are stored on the phone memory and there is no way as far as I can tell to see a contacts folder.
The Contact Back Up feature on PC companion and everything else I've read requires that I access the phone directly, which I can't do.
Does anyone know how I can access my contacts to back them up using a USB connection and not needing to directly interact with the phone?
Also, is there any chance that this fault will repair itself and the phone come back to life or do I save whatever files I can and then write it off?
Thanks a lot.

You had your contacts synced with your google account? Try logging from google to your account and search for the contacts page.

Thanks, but I'd tried that and regrettably the contacts are not there so I can't have synched them.

Of course that would require USB debugging to be enabled.
If it's not, you can use the keyboard and usb-otg adapter to enable it like this guy did:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...een-need-keyboard-sequence-usb-debugging.html
Of course his phone is different, so hopefully you're using stock gingerbread? or ICS?
play around.
Basically, for any other tool you would need ADB, so try to get that enabled.
Are you rooted?

I'm new to all this, but as far as I can tell, the other guy is referring to a separate keyboard on his particular phone. The Arc doesn't have a keyboard - only on screen.
Not rooted.
Can anyone give me a step by step solution?
Thanks.

Wait, don't you have HDMI out? If you don't have HDMI cable, look on ebay for that too, I'm sure you can get one for cheap, you just might have to wait a little to arrive from hong kong or china
Plug in a screen.
That guy is reffering to 'otg' keyboard:
https://www.google.com/search?gfns=...w&biw=1920&bih=986&sei=7skyUry5D4iMtAbr04HoCA
Arc s does support it, I tried. No root needed. And since Arc is pretty much exact same thing, it shouldn't cause any issues either.
Actually if you get the picture on the screen via HDMI, you're better off using a mouse. You will need the 'usb otg' connector (search ebay, they are really cheap) and USB mouse. Any should work, even wireless with dongles (logitech nano any unifying reciever both work)

Hi, thanks for the advice. If I was in the UK, it would be much easier to get hold of these things, but I'm in Brazil travelling and (whilst not complaining), it's going to be tough to get things set up as you suggest. I still have the USB OTG that came with the phone but keyboard and particularly HDMI connection will be a problem.
But it would be definitely worth a try if I can arrange things at some point. Thanks,

Disabled LCD Screen- Text Message Recovery?

So honestly I really don't know what happened but my LCD is cracked- rending my phone more or less useless. I have just transferred my internal memory to my PC via USB, but I don't know if my text messages are included in that/what the file name is if it was part of my internal memory. Thoughts or suggestions? I have tried downloading a mirroring program but I need to log in on my device, and as I cant use the device.... well that's pretty self explanatory.
You Need a OTG Cable (Micro USB OTG to USB 2.0 Adapter)

Since no one answered I will post what I did to get my information back.
My screen was unusable (touch wise) but I could see it fine. I bought one of these adapters
http://img.dxcdn.com/productimages/sku_221801_1.jpg
Micro USB OTG to USB 2.0 Adapter
mini-usb-male-to-usb-female-otg-adapting-cable
I plugged a USB mouse into this cable and a usb cursor appeared on my screen, allowing me to unlock my phone and operate it with the mouse, so I was able to back up whatever info I needed and transferred it via wifi to my new phone.

[Help] Backup ZE551ML Touch screen broken, no adb without unlocking, OTG not working

Dear all,
I have a Zenfone 2 model ZE551ML, the screen got broken, then the repair shop managed to break the touch connector while changing the screen.. Yes, it s*cks.
I would like to access my pictures and applications data which stayed on the RAM. I did not enable the backup on google servers.
I plugged my OTG cable, but I do not get any cursor, the ADB debug is enabled but I need to unlock the screen to be able to access the device using the adb command.
The device is not rooted, updated to the stock Version WW-4.21.40.184 (andriod M), the wifi is enabled and the device connects to internet meaning that I could install apps from the web interface of the play store.
In the end, I have a new screen but I can not interact using the touch functionality.
Do you have suggestions to give me to access my device ?
It can be an application, a recovery method, .. as long as I don't need to interact with the screen.
Any help would be highly appreciated,
Thank you
Laurent.

If the shop broke it, why not bring it back and tell them to fix it?

It would be too easy The broken connector is on the CPU card.. I guess it is too expensive... I complained but what can I do ..?
Now I just want to get my data
Is there a recovery method which gives access to adb commands ?
You can try using an usb otg cable and connect a mouse.
Guess I'm too late.
Thanks Marteicos for your reply, it is not too late, I am still looking for a way to access the storage of my ZE551ML.
I already tried with the OTG cable and a mouse, I don't get the cursor on the screen, I tested the technique on my new phone and it works, meaning that the cable is working.
I am still quite annoyed with that.
I can download apps (vnc like) from the web playstore but I would need that the app runs immediately after installing and without configuring it .. :/
I have the same problem that I need to recover from a broken screen and do some backups.
Background: I don't have USB debug enabled, so I cannot even get into the phone with adb. I cannot even get into recovery mode, it seems. Hard to say what the phone is doing because I can't view the screen.
Buying an OTG cable/dongle with HDMI output and mouse/keyboard input seems like a good idea, but I saw in a youtube video that one has to operate a popup menu on the screen too enable OTG? (Which I would not be able to do.) Can anyone please check for me whether operating a popup menu is required to get OTG to work? Or is there a workaround that does not depend on having a working screen?
(I do not have an OTG cable/HDMI converter to test with at the moment, would have to buy one speculatively to test.)

You could replace the screen. It's about $20, and is not really that hard to replace.

I very much want to avoid having to try and replace the screen before I have done a backup.. Do you or anyone know the answer to the OTG question I asked?

Same problem
Hello all,
I have the same problem. I managed to break that connector when trying to replace the screen with a new one. So now my phone can't be used and can't be fixed apparently, which means it'll probably go to the trash bin.
I am writing here because i would like to know if there is any way of retrieving the installed applications data.
I can connect the phone via usb to the computer, but i can only see the pictures, nothing else.
Can i get access to my contacts, my messages and other data besides pictures? Better yet, is there any way of cloning everything on the device and transfer it to another?
Unfortunately i wasn't wise enough to backup my apps through google services
Any help is appreciated. Thanks
If u can't touch the screen at all, there's nothing much we can do.
If you still can manage to install any app, try installing AirDroid and download all your files to your computer to backup. But be prepared, transferring files through WiFi can be slow.
$46 for full screen and frame replacement and comes with new touch screen connector
Buy it, install and then its fixed.

Hardware Problem - Software - data Recovery from broken display

Hi everyone,
I know this forum is more about software and the functioning of custom roms. But maybe someone has experiences with data recovery from a SM-A320FL, stockRom, with a broken display.
The mobile of my son has a broken display. The mobile still works, I can plug it in to a computer and it is still recognized as normal. I can not get access to the data via the laptop because I have to unlock via the phone. I know I could just get out the external sd and save the data, but my son would like to save his data from the phone as well.
The display is completely black and broken. We can not access the phone. Touch does not work.
My idea was to access the phone via an USB-C hub and plug the phone to an external monitor with a mouse and keyboard. So far it has not worked. Has anyone tried this solution and could tell me his /her experiences?
Has anyone experiences with such or a similar problem? Are there any other solutions to the problem, e.g. break up the phone and connect a new display to the phone,?
Many thanks for your help and any suggestions
Best

As far as I know, the phone is not capable of displaying its screen over the USB-C and never has been:

en.everybodywiki.com
Your only chance would be to use adb or Microsoft's Your Phone. But for the latter, you need to install and set up the app, which would be impossible with a broken screen.
How to fully backup and restore your Android device without root
One of Android’s little-known tricks is its built-in backup and restore process that allows users to save their private data...
9to5google.com
As a matter of fact, you could still root your phone and make a backup using the buttons on the side of the phone, however, you could only do that with a blindfold on as you have no screen. (However, there are many screenshots and videos available to see what theoptions are.)
Of course, if you bring your device to a repair shop, they can attach a touchscreen and perform the backup for you.

[Resolved]Data recovery from damaged 7T

Hi, the wife dropped her 7T today, and now can't get into it. Part of the screen is viewable, and it responds to touch well enough to swipe up and get where you enter the PIN, but we can't actually enter the PIN, and it won't read her fingerprint, either. It also doesn't appear to respond to mouse movements or clicks on USB OTG. The phone is bootloader unlocked and rooted, and I think it must have had USB debugging turned on at some point, but now when I try to connect with "adb devices", it shows as "unauthorized".
Can anyone recommend a method for unlocking it so I can get her data transferred to a PC or possibly directly to her replacement phone (she's trying an Apple SE)? Then we can be done with it, as it's not apparently worth the cost to repair it.
I managed to get the device connected to our TV with a USB v3 hub, and was able to remove the PIN and change the other settings I needed to change so I could get into it. USB OTG connection was useful for part of the process as I was able to connect a keyboard and mouse to it, but I couldn't seem to set it up so that I could use external input devices AND mirror the screen at the same time. Frustrating. At least the data is accessible now.
