please help! please advise of any possible solution! thanks to all!
Not sure if we can help you... this forum is for the US Verizon model and you seem to have a Chinese version of the phone. Just because it's the same phone doesn't mean the same methods work. You need to be S-Off to do RUU from what I understand, so if somehow you locked it back to S-On you might be out of luck. On the US Verizon model if you take the OTA while S-On you can't go back.

Hey guys,
First post and thread, unfortunately. May have been done before, so sorry if that's the case (and if it is I guess a quick link can clear this confusion up!)
I've got a tmobile HTC One M8 running Android 4.4.4 with an unlocked boot loader, clockworkmod 6.0.4.8 with s-on.
New android update is out and while I'm not necessarily keen on updating it, the icon is annoying. As well, I originally rooted the phone for some apps and sorts that I don't even use and I'm mainly interested in just bringing the phone back to a stock recovery so I can unroot it.
Tried using the RUU posted but I believe due to the s-on and unlocked boot loader, it doesn't work for me. Step one is an error on it.
What can I do here to bring the phone back to stock recovery? I'm not 100% I made a backup before I put cwm on it. May have but for arguments sake let's say I didn't.
Any and all help is appreciated. thanks so much everyone.

RUUs run fine with s-on, and I don't know why folks keep posting that it doesn't.
But you do however, need to relock the bootloader (since you are s-on) to run the RUU. Its absolutely mandatory (with s-on), and almost certainly why the RUU fails. THe RUU also needs to match your CID (but if you are properly trying a T-Mob RUU on a T-Mob version M8, that is not the issue), and further you cannot "downgrade" or run an older version RUU (older hboot) than what is on the phone.
But again, unlocked bootloader alone will make the RUU fail.
I haven't really seen a whole lot of s-off since firewater hasn't worked any longer. I kind of figured the unlocked bootloader was an issue as well. Mobile right now and working so not a whole lot I can do. Basically make sure the CID matches the RUU and relock the bootloader and I should be good to go? I picked up the T-Mobile RUU and I have a tmobIle M8, I didn't really think to check the CID, I just mainly assumed the failed run was from other sources.

As long as you have the right carrier RUU, the CID will also match. I assume T-Mobile US? As there is also T-Mobile in Europe.
As long as its right carrier (CID) and not trying to run an older version RUU, the unlocked bootloader is the only problem.
Yes T-Mobile US.
I'll have to double check the RUU, I'm pretty sure I grabbed it off here from a different thread, but like you said, the unlocked bootloader obviously was an issue.
In the case, and I'm assuming it's rare, that it could be that, is there an easy way to tell whether or not I have the most current RUU?
Thanks a bunch, really appreciating the help. I've been kind of at a standstill with this and haven't really tried much in fear of killing the phone.

Do you mean its rare to run the wrong version RUU? If so, I'd say no, its not rare at all. Folks are often not aware of the version requirement (with s-on, this requirement is bypassed with s-off) and try to run an "old" RUU.
All the T-Mob US RUUs are posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2714456
3.32 is Android 4.4.4
4.20 is Android 5.0
3.32 is what I have at the moment. With android 5 coming over the air a week or so ago for myself and 4.4.4 being on the phone when I got it just a couple months back, that's what I guess I was insinuating by rare. But thank you a bunch for your help. Again it's very much appreciated. Obviously got myself in a little over my head here.
It's running a custom lollipop Rom...if I want to reset this whole thing back to complete stock to get a fresh start...which ruu do I run? It's an Att phone and I know that lollipop isn't official for att yet. The bootloader unlocked and it has s-off. I just didn't want to do anything and risk a brick due to firmware incompatibility or whatever.
Do I need to lock bootloader prior to running ruu?
Thanks...any and all help is appreciated.
Not be a bad guy but check and ready the general section, there are loads of guides that contain the info you need, read up and get familiar with terms and commands, learn fastboot. Then start fiddling with the device.
There are awesome guides but you need to take the time to read them !
And the forum is flooded with the same basic question, there are loads of threads that contain the info too
Thank you but I am very familiar with fast boot and commands and flashing, etc...
I just want to know if I can run the latest ruu for att. It's ruuing backwards and I know I'm some certain situations going backwards can cause firmware issues...I don't want to brick my phone.
Typically with s-off on htc devices I know most things are safe. I will definitely look. Ack at old threads but I'd just appreciate if someone could answer this particular question.
Thanks
And even with s-off its easy to run a at&t ruu, even an older one. Run it and update via official ota again if needed.
Edit :
And as additional advice i can recommend you to look at the AT&T M8 subforum instead of browsing through the international M8 forum. Think you will find some more specific and detailed info there

appreciate it! Hey one more question and Ill leave you alone...with s-off, do I need to lock bootloader prior to running ruu? Seems like when I had the m7, I had to lock bootloader for ruu to work properly.
thanks

Ah no with s-off you do not need to lock/relock the bootloader to run a ruu with success

If you want i can fix the phone over teamviewer
I currently soft bricked my phone after trying to restore my phone back to complete stock ROM to the point the OS wont boot up, instead the red triangle comes up, I'm looking for the RRU for Vodafone as because I'm currently S-On which means I can't upgrade or downgrade my firmware. I have the stock recovery image but can't find the RRU after much looking around the forums and googling I unfortunately found dead links. I need a little help
I'm sorry I'm a little new to rooting, but i will answer questions however I can
Regards!
You can find the 1.32.161.15 RUU for your M9 on androidruu. Just search the M9 library and update afterwards.

Thanks for the fast reply, I found the same RRU updating utility in a forums here too, but I get the error 115 when trying to update which is odd even after relocking the bootloader. This is why I need one for the version I'm running as I think the reason me being stuck now on S-On is causing issues.
Still really needing that RRU, I have an expensive paperweight here and no phone so some help would really be appreciated

Only find this 1.40.161.8 RUU
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347798272
I also need 2.10.161.7 or newer.
I relocked my bootloater + updating the firmwarepart to 2.10.161.7.
So I can not use it anymore.
Sunshine isn't an option, because no system is up and running. XTC2Clip is too expensive to get the HTC in S-OFF Mode. There isn't an other method at this time, right?
I can only send it to the RUU Service, but I am from Germany.
Maybe here is someone near Düsseldorf who can S-OFF my device with his XTC2Clip?
Thanks

Someone already tried it? Don't want to spend money for a file, which won't help me out.

Unless your phone is S-OFF you can't use that RUU. It's a "combined" one which means it's custom made and not signed by HTC. S-ON phones only accept files which are signed by HTC. Btw.: That's the reason why you need S-OFF for Sneakyghost's firmware packs, too.

Oh dear i do a apologize for the wrong info
Hi all,
I wanted to start fresh and I flashed a RUU (there is no .exe for HTC034 versions as far as I know) to go completely stock. I only didn't know that this would change my software status from official to modified. My question is if there is a way to go back to official while being s-on. And if not is it possible with s-off? Also does this 'modified' mean anything in regards to my warranty and taking OTAs? I hope somebody can help me because I'm a bit lost and I can't find these answers.
Thanks!
I did some more research and I thought of this: going s-off and change the cid to the US unlocked version so I can use the ruu.exe of the US unlock version. This will give me back software status official because using a .exe will give you this. After this change the cid again to my original one (WWE) and flash ruu.zip again. This time the software status will not change because I'm s-off. So my software status is ok again and I'm still with my original software and cid. Is this method going to work or not? Hope somebody can help me.
Nobody that can help me?

I can't tell you if it's gonna work, but all I tell you is that I'm also HTC__34. S-off and locked, I wanted to know if I could manually install the 1.80.401.1 ota.
On ICE 10 on a daily basis, I flashed the 1.30.401.1 zip ruu: I was still "software status: official" afterwards and I managed to flash through stock recovery the above mentioned ota flawlessly.
I guess I can thank sunshine again for S-off
Don't know if it's of any help for you, but I hope a little
Thanks. Your status stayed official because you're s-off. I was s-on so it changed. Thanks for the help
I hope one of the experts here can help me with this.

If you're on Lollipop, you can use sunshine to unlock and flash away. If on MM, you have to downgrade to LP, and then use sunshine to unlock (this is a cost of 25 USD). There is a thread for the downgrade here in the Verizon forum. As for a rom, I highly recommend LeeDroid, as he makes roms for all M9s, and he is based out of the UK. For that, just go to the HTC One M9 main forum, not the Verizon forum. I'm currently running it and it is fantastic.
Edit: Sorry, totally somehow thought you were locked. Anyway, just make sure you have the latest TWRP and flash any rom you want, but you'll find more activity here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9
Roms based on stock (I recommend for stability, signal, and camera) are under "One (M9) Android Development."

Here's the link for the rom which has instructions for for installation: http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/development/rom-leedroid-one-m9-v7-0-0-rc1-march-t3068468
I can't remember off the top of my head if your recovery is new enough (I believe it is), but here is the thread for TWRP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/orig-development/recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-t3066720
If you don't feel comfortable rebooting your phone into different modes and doing some command prompt codes, I'm not sure I'd recommend doing any of this though. Make sure you do your research and read, read, read. Maybe even search YouTube for examples of people flashing TWRP and such.
thank you sending the phone back, will buy a uk version
