If you're on Lollipop, you can use sunshine to unlock and flash away. If on MM, you have to downgrade to LP, and then use sunshine to unlock (this is a cost of 25 USD). There is a thread for the downgrade here in the Verizon forum. As for a rom, I highly recommend LeeDroid, as he makes roms for all M9s, and he is based out of the UK. For that, just go to the HTC One M9 main forum, not the Verizon forum. I'm currently running it and it is fantastic.
Edit: Sorry, totally somehow thought you were locked. Anyway, just make sure you have the latest TWRP and flash any rom you want, but you'll find more activity here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9
Roms based on stock (I recommend for stability, signal, and camera) are under "One (M9) Android Development."

Here's the link for the rom which has instructions for for installation: http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/development/rom-leedroid-one-m9-v7-0-0-rc1-march-t3068468
I can't remember off the top of my head if your recovery is new enough (I believe it is), but here is the thread for TWRP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/orig-development/recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-t3066720
If you don't feel comfortable rebooting your phone into different modes and doing some command prompt codes, I'm not sure I'd recommend doing any of this though. Make sure you do your research and read, read, read. Maybe even search YouTube for examples of people flashing TWRP and such.
thank you sending the phone back, will buy a uk version

How to remove bloatware
HI Guys
Ive read through the forum link above all 24 pages and downloaded the relevant Stock Roms, the original from HTC and the Vodafone one. Ive got a little confused reading through all the posts. To flash the original stock rom over my current vodafone branded one what steps exactly do i need to take. People are mentioning the unlock via htc dev in the forums is this required to take it back to the original stock rom. I didnt see any clear steps on how to get this done. Anyone provide any help. Ive flashed my old phone numerous times but at present am a little worried about using the htcdev way. I know the developers are working on s-off is any of this needed for what im trying to do??
Thanks in Advance
Gav
you don't need to unlock to flash an official ROM.
Best way is to grab the RUU file that is correct for your device and flash that way. Its a windows executable you run whilst your phone is connected via fastboot.
edit: that would bring you back to the vodaphone crap. whoops. disregard but yes you don't need S-OFF or unlocked blootloader to flash original rom

Hi Mate
Thanks for this, just a quick question then im currently running 1.26.161.2 (vodafones ROM) and i want to use the original stock one from HTC 1.26.401.2 can i just overwrite vodafones with this one?

I too am a bit of a noob and have a voda branded hox on its way to me. I was under the impression that although we may be able to flash stock htc hox firmware onto the device, we won't be able to it 'properly' because of no proper s off or boot loader..... Or something..... And therefore won't be able to receive any OTA updates afterward....
Or am I talking rubbish and we CAN actually nicely and simply flash stock firmware on and forever after have no issues receiving offiCIAL OTA?
Also gav I don't even know if any stock RUU exist yet...?

Hi Mate
Yes i have the stock and vodafone rom downloaded i got it on here from the developers section. We should be able to install these RUU updates as it doesnt require s-off or to use the htcdev method as least from my understanding.
Sorry to bump this thread, but I'm currently looking for the Original Stock ROM for the HTC One X.
I came across this thread in my search, but the link in the first post is no longer active.
Is there an updated link ?

Mate, first you must know exactly what are you looking for. There are numerous links around here with different versions of stock ROMs.
You need your phone's CID and main version.
Only after that you will search, download and flash the stock ROM that ffits your phone.

I've checked my CID (Using command - fastboot getvar cid)
My CID comes up as : None
I am currently on Revolution HD 7.x ROM and wanted to update to the new 19.x ROM
The problem is when I try updating the hboot, it constantly fails.
I've downloaded the "x.xx.401.x - World Wide English (WWE)" version
A friend of mine has a stock standard One X from Vodafone and JB was just pushed out as an update for her.
I want to try and restore my phone back to the original ROM for that purpose. (also helps in case of warranty)
Have had a look but cant seem to find the original Vodafone ROM anywhere.

This is good news! You need main version also. Then, go and check HERE. There are explanations and files that will help you. Download and flash (as per instructions) nandroid backup that matches your version. Once that finished, you will soon get notification about available update. Accept it, and you will have Vodafone stok JB. After that, do what ever you want with your phone

In the UK? Look for a HTC WWE RUU. A quick google search should help you =)
Be warned though, this will wipe all data, unroot you & (I think) return you to S-ON (unable to flash custom ROMs)

That would be perfect, and yes it's UK, it's my daughters phone so custom roms wouldn't be needed. I am guessing that it would need rooting first to get the Rom on, also I have read threads regarding radio's, goldcards etc, do I need to worry about that or will the ruu have everything I need?
Thanks for your response.

Hello everyone, I I just got an M9 at my local Telus store and I would like to be able to do everything with it like I am able to do with my M7, so I know I will need to use sunshine to get S-OFF and I would also like to be able to change everything from the rom to the kernel to the OS, everything, so I was just wondering if someone could let me know the best order to go about doing things, meaning should I do sunshine first then worry about flashing a recovery and all that, or should I do the recovery first so that I can backup the phones current state? The phone currently says this in the hboot screen:
*** LOCKED ***
LK-1.0.0.0000
OS-1.32.661.6
and this is what it says on the phones Setting-About-Software screen:
Android version
5.0.2
HTC Sense version
7.0
Like I mentioned before, it would probably be best if I can make a backup of the phones current state just in case there are any issues, so to do that I know I need a recovery, but do I need to do the HTC Dev unlocker before I can do so? or do I have to flash a recovery first before everything else?
Now, before anyone gets upset with me for asking these questions because they have most likely been asked 1000 times before, I am not asking to be spoon feed all the details step by step, I am just asking to be pointed in the right direction and asking for you guy's opinions on the best way to go about doing things so that I do them right the first time... So if anyone could please take a minute to help me out and get me pointed in the right direction then it would be greatly appreciated... thank you very much...

First thing you should do is unlock your bootloader. After that you can install twrp and flash supersu (most can be found here) Once you are rooted run sunshine. After that the sky is the limit. You will be free to flash anything and everything. I know because I've done it. If you want to convert to a developers edition there is a post here. Personally I do not use my stock recovery or system image backups to download ota's. I prefer to run an RUU and do fresh installs. Reason why is because I am constantly changing firmware and roms. A lot of roms are based on the WWE firmware.
let me know if you have any more questions

Thank you very much for the tips.. Do I use the HTC Dev website to unlock the bootloader? I seen a link in the dev thread that said Unlock bootloader without HTCDev(root required), but I bet that the HTCDev way is probably the best best. which did you use? I'm not at home right now so I will begin when I get home later on tonight and if I need anything else I will post back, plus I post back to say how everything goes.. I've used htcdev for all 2 out o 3 of my m9's. third one is a developer edition so it wasn't needed.
just note download mode is fastboot mode on the m9. htcdev says to boot to fastboot mode and if you do not know than you can waste hours trying to figure it out.

Ok so I got the bootloader unlocked and TWRP installed, right now I am taking a backup of the phones current state just in case. Now I just need to flash the SuperSU beta from the link you provided and then run sunshine, after that I would like to flash the latest OS for my phone, but I am not sure which version to use, I think this one is correct http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/development/firmware-red-t3097678 but I am not 100% sure, do you know if this is the correct latest version for my phone?
Also should I supercid my phone before updating the firmware by entering "fastboot oem writecid 11111111" while in download mode? because my cid is TELUS001 and I do not see that cid listed in the androidinfo.txt file that is in the firmware zip...
Thanks again for all your help...
**UPDATE** I now have S-OFF, I can't believe how smooth the whole process is now with sunshine compared to almost all of my other HTC phones, hats off to those guys for sure... Thank you very much for getting me this far!!! I appreciate it very much...

I was actually just going to tell you to type
Code:
fastboot getvar all
while in download mode and to copy and paste that into a file a text file somewhere so you always have it. then you can supercid. I actually have never seen any firmware for your carrier. what is your mid? this is where I get all of my firmware from. I learned how to remove the red text using hex editor and I also throw in a custom splash screen before I flash.
Here is a link for your stock firmware. not sure what the most up to date is but most custom roms are using the WWE firmware anyways.
p.s. either quote me or tag me if you need a faster response. I'm not getting notifications otherwise.

I honestly don't know if the hardware is any different but it looks like your mid is the same as the dev ed. check this one out. @clsA is very knowledgeable on the m9. I learned a lot of what I know from his posts.

If going to dev ed I have had better luck running an RUU and accepting ota's as far as the radio goes. my reception went from 2 bars to full bars doing it that way verses just flashing the newest firmware. Hi.. I've not used my M8 for some time and I'd like to put it back on a stock rom and give it to my mother-in-law. Unfortunately I can't remember how to do much with regards to rooting, fuu, roms, etc, and I'm finding the forums a bit overwhelming.
It is an ATT phone, but the CID was changed to 11111111 so I could sim-unlock it. It's currently on 4.16.401.10, and on the ViperOneM8 v 4.6.1.
We need it to remain sim-unlocked, and on the stock rom.. I've looked around a little bit and found [tutorial] How to get back on stock with TWRP Stock Nandroid Backups. I've downloaded M8_6.12.401.4_WWE_FullStock.zip - if I flash this in TWRP will it return the phone to a stock rom, and will receive OTA updates?
Thank you for any help or answers you can give me,

You can't flash it in recovery. You need to flash it in fastboot, or via SDcard/hboot.
I've given instructions to another user recently on the ViperOneM8 thread. You can see them here.

If you want to keep WWE firmware, yes.
If you want to go back to AT&T firmware (and this is probably a better option for you), there is another way.
Go here (HTC's US website). Scroll down to the Manual System Update Instructions, and read them. There is an RUU download at the end of the instructions.
Hi all
Sorry if this is a stupid question - I'm still a rookie to this stuff but I'm getting my head around it now.
I picked up a HTC 10 and I didn't like it very much coming from a HTC One M8 Google Play Edition, I just miss stock android so much. I tried out some other ROMs to see if that would help but it doesn't and I don't want to wait months for an AOSP ROM (if one will ever come) so I am going to get rid of the phone and buy a Nexus device.
It would be ideal if I can return to locked bootloader and go back to stock recovery from TWRP which it currently has. I see HTC has the RUU on their site but its branded USA, is it safe to use on a European phone? Or is there another way I can return to stock recovery and locked bootloader? It's not essential, I'm sure I'll be able to pass it onto a techy friend either way but would be nice to have it as close to how I got it as possible if anyone is able to offer some advice.
Thanks in advance
Take a look in guide section at least two threads that provide the files you need

Hi there. It's not locating the files that I'm struggling with, as I said I'm still a bit of a rookie and was wondering if someone would be willing to help me out with how to use the files. I realize it's a big ask but I figured there's no harm in asking.

You can't use the US Unlocked RUU on the European phone, but there is an RUU for the WWE model (401) here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/stock-stock-collection-recovery-ruu-ota-t3359297
You will never get back to 100% stock unless you spent $25 to S-Off your phone with sunshine, because when you lock your bootloader back, your device will show as RElocked in download and bootloader mode instead of just locked. So...IMO, unless you want to spend the $25 so you can return it, I would just leave it as unlocked and save the next person the hassle of unlocking it.
As for stock recovery, many are available in the thread I linked to above as well.

you need the htc_fastboot.exe file. fastboot.exe can't handle files this large.
Here is the link to download
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8OH6sFjVE1lVG9JUE1yR0lTckk
copy this to fastboot folder.
command is the same, just add htc_ in front of fastboot

Sorry. No idea. Maybe you have a bad download for ruu.zip. I would try re-downloading it.
