Software status: modified question - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Hi all,
I wanted to start fresh and I flashed a RUU (there is no .exe for HTC034 versions as far as I know) to go completely stock. I only didn't know that this would change my software status from official to modified. My question is if there is a way to go back to official while being s-on. And if not is it possible with s-off? Also does this 'modified' mean anything in regards to my warranty and taking OTAs? I hope somebody can help me because I'm a bit lost and I can't find these answers.
Thanks!

I did some more research and I thought of this: going s-off and change the cid to the US unlocked version so I can use the ruu.exe of the US unlock version. This will give me back software status official because using a .exe will give you this. After this change the cid again to my original one (WWE) and flash ruu.zip again. This time the software status will not change because I'm s-off. So my software status is ok again and I'm still with my original software and cid. Is this method going to work or not? Hope somebody can help me.

Nobody that can help me?

I can't tell you if it's gonna work, but all I tell you is that I'm also HTC__34. S-off and locked, I wanted to know if I could manually install the 1.80.401.1 ota.
On ICE 10 on a daily basis, I flashed the 1.30.401.1 zip ruu: I was still "software status: official" afterwards and I managed to flash through stock recovery the above mentioned ota flawlessly.
I guess I can thank sunshine again for S-off
Don't know if it's of any help for you, but I hope a little

Thanks. Your status stayed official because you're s-off. I was s-on so it changed. Thanks for the help
I hope one of the experts here can help me with this.

[Q] Can't Update passed 4.0.4

Okay, so I have a One X, International with quad-core. CID is HTC__001.
I've had a few problems over the passed year with the phone and I had to send it into HTC twice, and on the second occasion, they replaced everything except the plastic frame.
Ever since I've received the phone back it has had 4.0.4, and I haven't been able to update. I manually search for updates but it says it's up to date.
Not exactly sure where to go from here, I've been hesitant to do anything about it because last time I updated to 4.0.4, which is when I had the problem, HTC had to replace the phone.
Anything will be appreciated. Not the most tech savy when it comes to this kind of stuff
Thanks
Johnny
Look for the 3.14.401.31 ruu and run it. It will flash the phone (if successful) to stock jellybean and wipes the phone. So back up stuff you need. Better to be safe than sorry.

Hey sorry, but just want to clarify, how exactly do I go about doing this, do I just plug in my phone and run the .exe. Also do I need to be rooted?
Thanks

Your bootloaded should be locked or relocked and you just start .exe file. You don't have to be rooted.
Since you got phone from HTC, bootloader is locked so you can start .exe file right now.
Hey, so I tried to run the ruu. I went through the process and got a "signature error 132" on the Update Utility. So after some research apparently the ruu that I downloaded was the wrong one, which was "RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_JB_45_S_HTC_Europe_3.14.401.31_R_Radio_5.1204.162.29_release_302015_signed"
In the attached image it has all the information.
From what I understand, something about 2.17.1900.1 is important, but I have no further knowledge and I'd love to hear what you guys think.
Thanks a lot,
Johnny

When you start bootloader are you S-ON or you are S-OFF. And are you Endeavoru XE or PVT
I sssumed because of the cid he was on 401 but has a variant the 1900......not sure that the 401 works indeed
Okay, so after looking around I couldn't find anything with 1900. Would anyone be able to redirect me?
And to answer Thant's question, I am S-ON and Endeavoru PVT.
From what I understand, you need to be rooted to become S-OFF, but this will allow you to run any ruu as it is no longer dependent on the "1900." Correct me if I'm wrong.
I'd love to hear the best course of action from you guys.
Thanks
Well i would check with your provider/HTC ! I assume your bootloader is still locked atm, keep it that way and return with the statement that you can't update it while the update should be there. And if there is no available update then they should give a reason why it's not available !
If they can't help you at all you can try to unlock the bootloader and flash the 3.14.401 firmware to upgrade the hboot. Don't know if it works but might be worth a try

Not sure if we can help you... this forum is for the US Verizon model and you seem to have a Chinese version of the phone. Just because it's the same phone doesn't mean the same methods work. You need to be S-Off to do RUU from what I understand, so if somehow you locked it back to S-On you might be out of luck. On the US Verizon model if you take the OTA while S-On you can't go back.

Returning to Stock T-MOB101

Hi everybody,
I've been reading a lot of stuff since now but still have some unanswered questions.
I want to return to completely stock as for insurance or warranty purposes.
I originally got an german HTC One M8 with T-MOB101 cid.
I unlocked the bootloader as the temp-root variant did not work for me, s-off'ed, changed cid to Supercid and flashed ViperRom.
But now I have to send it in to insurance company because my display glass broke after dropping my htc one off about 1 Foot...:crying:
So how would be the optimal procedure to get as close to completely stock?
I know that after reverting everything the bootloader would still say relocked.
So my idea was to:
1. get an original T-MOB101 NAND backup and restore it (beforehand restore T-MOB101 cid)
2. flashing stock recovery
3. Removing Tampered (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51700320&postcount=1)
4. Setting Locked (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708571)
5. play over an OTA firmware.zip
This would lead me to a stock rom with OTA capability, but would still show me the red warning as well as S-OFF.
As an alternative I read about hex edited hboots to get rid of the red warning or even Mask S-off as s-on.
However in the according thread i could not make out an hboot corresponding to the T-MOB101 CID. So I tried it on my own after having a look at stock and modified hboots.
I edited my own hboot according to those modification but am too scared to flash it as it could hard brick my phone....
So I ask you guys, am I on the right way and what would you do ?

To tell you the truth, I don't think the insurance company will care about any software mods. Different story if you had to send it in to HTC.

Well, actually I would agree, but as they turn on the phone and a red warning pops up I could think of any crazy reason why they would deny the repair or exchange ^^.
Whatever that reason might be that would result in a broken glass caused by the software
Does the red text dissappear if I return S-ON, officially relock bootloader, stock recovery and cid?

The only way to get rid off the red text is with a modifed HBOOT.

Well ok, I feared that. You're not accidently fit in Hex-Editing ?
As I said, I already backed up my hboot and edited it as the other hboots I founds with the wrong cid. But I'm afraid of flashing it without anyone else who knows something about hexediting took a second look at it.
Also does the hboot get overwritten by a NAND backup? So if I'll restore I would have to modify that hboot and not the one I'm currently at?

Sorry, have not done hexediting in a while. Hboot is part of firmware, does not get overwritten by restore backup.

First you should flash the stock rom then stock recovery. This will remove your red text.then you should flash ruu.I would suggest not to change your cid.
Also if you are comfortable you can change your cid to supercid, mid to wwe mid then flash wwe fw and its recovery then flash the ruu. This will convert your phone to international htc with s-off and super cid and you will be able to take ota and you will have full 100% warranty.
Hey Jyotirdeb,
thanks for your input.
But there is still the problem, that I have to come to T-MOB101 firmware and not the WWE. Furthermore as far as I have read, the red text will only disappear if I flash stock recovery, stock ROM AND S-ON again. At least without a modified HBOOT.
Other problem is, that there are as far as i know no RUUs available for the M8 up to now. Correct me if I'm mistaken. At least I didn't find one, especially for cid T-MOB101.

It is true that you have to be on stock rom and stock kernel. But you dont have to be s-on you can be s-off.And yes as far as I know there is EU ruu (unbranded) maybe you have to wait for hTC to release Ruu for other variant.I am sorry I cant be of more help.
Hmm, strange thing, as I actually read it again that there must be s-on and everything stock, to get rid of it, but nevermind.
Really, where could I get that RUU from? As far as I know only the Sprint or Verizon Variant does have a RUU not the International One.
Furthermore would I need the RUU from T-Mobile as the release it with their branding, not HTC.

If you have an s-on device you can change bootloader status to relocked but if you have soff device you can change bootloader stats to locked so you will get 100% warranty.I dont know about version or sprint but the ruu is available for unbranded EU model.

The site is in german... use google chrome to translate.
You'll find everything you need to restore T-MOB101 M8.

Actually, on that site there is a RUU for unbranded phones only. For T-MOB101 they have a nand backup and firmware. I'm still thinking whether I want to use that. That is, I have a similar issue as the OP, I mean, I want to reinstall Android, although I'm completely stock, unrooted, etc. It's just that the Lollipop update screwed everything up and I'm hoping that reinstalling will fix it. Unfortunately, for CID T-MOB101 no RUU is available. So, I either have to use the backup and then flash firmware, for which I have to root and install custom recovery first, or I have to wait till HTC comes up with Android 5.1.

[Q] Need help returning my HTC one m8 from wind moble (canadian) to stock rom

I have a HTC one m8. Right now it has s-off with cid 11111111 My carrier is wind mobile the original cid is GLOBA001.
I can't find a RUU that matches my original CID. I want to go back to stock htc sense. When I got the phone it was rooted and modded. I've tried installing an At&t RUU but every time I open the RUU it goes to the installshield, I click next and then it closes. I have the htc usb drivers and I ran it as administrator.
Can someone tell me how to return this phone back to a stock rom? If someone could please help me get this back to normal I would really appreciate it.

If you want to go to stock it has nothing to do with supercid.Since you have an supercid device your phones mid should match with the mid of the ruu which you are flashing. The best way is that change your mid to WWE version and flash WWE stock rom and its ruu. This will take you to the stock rom and also you will regain your warranty. This will make your phone that it came from the factory itself. You can follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735235

Do NOT go s-on after achieving S-OFF. You have the possibility of a lot of bad things happening, including having phone that won't boot with a security warning. There is a thread on it somewhere. Scotty1223 wrote it. Leave it S-OFF. If you have a backup up of stock. I would restore that, in the development section there will be a guide to get rid the tampered flag. Then flash stock recovery. After than you "should" don't quote me on that. Should have an unlocked bootloader stock recovery and S-OFF. Then, change your "unlocked" banner to "locked" not relocked. "Locked" there is another thread somewhere, written by Scotty1223. I'm on mobile so it's kinda hard to find these threads and post it. If you can't find them, next time I'm on my computer, I can post the websites.
Sent from my HTC One M8 Google Play Edition. S-OFF.

Back to STOCK in bootloader on HTC 10

Hi there guys, i'm a new user of this fantastic smartphone called HTC 10. I've got a problem with mine when trying to go back to stock after unlocking the bootloader for some modding.
I'm looking for someone who guides me to set everything as original, just because i've not found what i wanted.
Right now my biggest question is related about "Software Status: modified " and "S-on: Relocked".
is there any way to switch them?
Tried with ruu.exe but nothing seems to change.
I'm on cid HTC__034 baseband 2.41.401.4
Any help would be appreciated.
ps: sorry for my english, but it's not my first language (italian one).
S-off is needed, you can use sunshine app for 25$, then you can change software status or "relocked" to "locked", but you don't need it to be stock.
Well so, once I go s-off locked what I might do? Flash the full rom? The firmware? What?

Your question seemed to be asking how to set your bootloader to Locked. The post above yours is correct, get Sunshine and select S-off/Locked.
From there, you can flash an appropriate ruu to fully get back to stock.
