I've decided to give this it's own thread instead of it getting lost in the Optimus Thread.
Here you will find some info on reception, and build.prop mods for the OpTimuS Roms
Some History.
For as long as I can remember Custom Stock Rom's have always had worse reception than Stock for me. It took me a while, but I finally figured out why.
In the build.prop, there are adds that Devs make to improve reception and cell signal. The bad thing is, it doesn't work for everybody. So I have experimented with the build.prop to make it as close to stock reception as possible. These are the biggest culprits for worse reception.

Also there are some claims of mods that improve speeds and/or reception. Read here. http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...acebo-or-actual-development-see-for-yourself/
I have commented the adds out and it was true they didn't help/hurt a thing. OpTimuS uses three of them. But even though they are in there, they don't work, so I didn't change them.
If you want, you can modify your own build prop. But MAKE SURE you change permissions to rw-r-r, because sometimes it changes itself with mods and it won't boot up.
For those that prefer the easier way....see below.
I don't know how/why Lrod could make the reception so sensitive, but he has. That little red "x" shows up waaay more than with the stock LGSystemUI. Also the "x" seems to be for cell signal , because you can still get data. I average 8% per day on battery use for "Cell Standby".
These should improve your reception on OpTimuS Roms
Wipe /cache, /dalvic and flash in recovery.
OpTimuS DE5.0 - modded - http://d-h.st/SNl
Original OpTimuS DE5.0 build.prop - http://d-h.st/kZg - use this to restore to Lrod's original build.prop
For older versions of the Optimus series, PM me and I can modify it for you. But you don't wanna use the older ones.
You the man buddy!

Just tried this and it borked my GPS. Is there anything else I can do to tone down the sensitivity?

You used this on OpTimuS DE 5.0? Or on something else.
The changes in the build prop don't touch GPS.
But if you ran this on DE5.0 then just flash back to the original posted above

Yeah, it was weird. Flashed it twice, and twice I couldn't get any GPS signal. I didn't realize it was borked until I got lost and tried to use Maps. Good thing I wasn't in the bad part of town....
Tested it on several programs and GPS would never initialize. Oh well....

Hey Guys,
I've been on ICS for awhile now, but I just switched back to Gingerbread. I must say I do like GB more (for now anyway).
Anyway one thing that really bugs me is the 4G icon on all the Gingerbread ROMs. I am currently running Blazer v4.0 and I was wondering how I could make the 4G icon be more like the 3G icon. By this I mean that instead of having the 4G icon like the WiFi icon, it is just like the 3G icon with the two arrows, much like the 4G icon is on the HTC EVO.
Please let me know if this mod exists (I searched without luck) or if it is possible. I would love to see this.
Thank you in advance.
You could go and edit the framework-res.apk yourself if you're up for that.
Edit: Actually, the 4g icons are in the settings.apk, sorry about that.
If you want I could try and whip out some 4g icons for you if you give me more of an idea of what you'd like. I'd still keep some way to show the signal strength though, as that should be kept and not exactly like the 3g icons that just show activity.
Well you see I live in an area were 4G is really strong so the signal strength doesn't really matter to me
I just like the look of the 3G icons much more with the up and down arrows that light up when they are in use.
I would love to create it myself, but unfortunately I don't have much knowledge when it comes to anything beyond the creation of the icons. I may however try to mess around with the settings apk to see if I could figure it out.
So ya, what I really would like is an icon just like the 3G icon, but that says 4G instead. Sort of like on Verizon phones: http://goo.gl/xOrsa
So I made some icons of how I imagine this to be. If anyone could help me figure out how to use them I would be very grateful.

I'm trying to think because I've only used 4G some in different places that have it not near me, does our phone change the icon when it is in use? Obviously it stops sleeping if it was, but does it flash or anything?

Actually I just connected to the almost nonexistent 4G at my house that I never use and it seems to stay static.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Pretty sure it stays the same. I think on of the main issues would be getting the up and down arrows to light up when in use. I guess both arrows could be off when its sleeping and on when its not? I really would like to have it be just like 3G though. I wobder if this may be something that could be developed...

Hello, I've got a weird error that I don't even know how to begin tracking down. Not sure if this is an ICS issue, an app issue, or a device (hardware) issue.
Several times now, I get a problem were, after a reboot, all the text on my home screen - names for apps and text within widgets is mangled somehow. Like pixels inverted, or boxed over, etc. (see screenshot)

The first couple of times this happened, a single reboot made it go away. However with my latest occurrence, I've rebooted several times without a fix.
EDIT: It seems like my data connection may also require examination? Since on the 3rd or 4th reboot I was in my office with a solid WiFi connection (versus previous reboots I was in my car en-route), the problem has now gone away again.
My initial reboot this morning was as a quick-fix attempt at an absent data connection. Guess I'm off to research these "radios" everyone keeps on about...
EDIT 2: Ok, perhaps ignore the above. After a reboot made this go away, it has now come back spontaneously (i.e. just noticed it sitting in the cradle with the error again - no reboot this time.) CRUUUUD.
Are you using a custom Kernel? Some 'Overclock' the GPU to 512MHz, while Stock is 384MHz. Some devices can't handle the increase and cause screen artifacts. Post your Kernel details and I'm sure someone will point you in the direction of another Kernel if this is the case.
Not that I know of - should be all stock, since I haven't rooted or unlocked anything yet (just got the phone a couple of weeks ago).
Thanks for the help.
Stock launcher? Or using nova/apex etc?

Hi,
Another thread...:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646985
Nothing related to GPU overclock...just about this possibility...
Looking in different threads in Q&A/General.
If you are using the stock launcher...I think I saw a topic with this weird issue with the stock launcher...but I can not find it anymore
In any case clear data/cache of your current launcher, reboot and see...If you're on another launcher than stock,reinstall...
I speak only for the launcher issue.
Yep, stock launcher. Thanks for the other thread.
Seems to be at bay now. Will keep an eye on it.
I had a weird thing happen with my signal today. It kept going out, and data just wouldn't work! Although the 3G icon was there nothing would download. Here is a pic of the connection status! Look at the mobile network type!

i had this happen to me for like two weeks on and off. After a while it would do this to me while the bars were blue! I tried toggling my data on and off, toggling airplane on and off, rebooting and even calling sprint to have them restart my data. This even followed me from rom to rom. The only way I got rid of it was to download the complete FH05 jellybean tar and odin back to stock jelly bean. I tried to odin to FD02 and except the ota but it followed me there too. Its wierd, and it started after I flashed a certain rom(wont name it cuz i cant be sure it had anything to do with it) and then the rom gave me some probs I wiped and restored my nandroid of cm10 I had before I flashed the mystery rom and thats when it started. And cm10 was working awesome for like three weeks before the mystery rom flash. I mean problems dont just pop up, theyre either there or theyre not.
Well I ended up calling Sprint today to find out what the problem was and they told me it was due to some tower being worked on! Maybe it has to do with the LTE?
I've had that happen to me a couple of times. Mainly its when I had it set to run on GSM/Edge/LTE/HSPA+ mode.
Its just due to the way your phone finds the best tower. It shouldn't hurt your phone, or affect your data in any way. Just switch your roaming profile to home only. It should fix it.
And to the Photoshop guy...
Are you that stupid? Seriously, use your mind. It doesn't look photoshopped. Even if it was, it would be a decent work.

Ok, i flashed my phone to the newest distro of ProjectX the other night, but it just kills my battery in absolutely no time what so ever. When it goes into sleep mode it requires me to remove my case, cover and battery. Than plug it into my charger and wait about 15 minutes to power it on. I cannot have my phone doing that. It must turn on at anytime for me. Other than the battery being absolutely horrible with this mod and the sleep thing i love it. Loud volume is a huge plus.......
Went back to Revolt rom and i have absolutely 0 data and volume is super low. I like Revolt as its 4.3.X but the volume is way too low and cant get any data when not on wifi, again i cannot have this i must have my data. So i tried using some app for XplosionAudio or something, but it made absolutely no difference in the phones loudness via apps like AlarmClock Extreme, messaging, ringtones etc. I really prefer to stick with Revolt simply for the 4.3.X Android, but i need help.
Any ideas on what to do to fix my data problems? Have tried installing APN Backup and Restore along with Titanium but cant get anything to work with that either.
I guess you can say im a noob when it comes to this though ive been fiddling with it for awhile, i just read instructions step-by-step before tinkering with stuff.
btw i have sprint for service.
What baseband version are you running? Also, 4.3.x ROMS are hit and miss for some people.

You need to have an ICS modem for AOSP ROMs (like FL24)

Im using FL24 on it currently.
With ProjectX i had AWESOME reception and was even getting 4g lte in some areas, on Revolt i barely get to see 3g lte kick in.

first off....its not LTE...its wimaxx. it just shows LTE..which I think is cool, but this device doesn't get LTE.
second...use a jb modem on jb touchwiz based roms..
as for the battery life and sleep issue...check the md5 to insure u have a good download. I've been running this Rom and its variants for quite sometime with great battery life.
make sure also that no apps are causing wake locks...
but it sounds like to me that u might have a bad download.
hit me back with some more info and we will get ya straightened out...
Title is self-explanatory. Please look at screenshot below. Halp pl0x?
Using UVMC6 radio. ODINed back to stock 2.3.6 and 4.0.3, no dice. Same problem =/
Tried the AGPS patch, no go. Same problem =/

Try clearing AGPS data. You should be able to do that in GPS Test.

Did that, no go. How many are you getting btw, and what radio are you on?
I'm using UVMC6 (rooted stock JB, never had a custom ROM) and getting 19 sats in view and 12 in use. By the looks of your signal bars, you're not getting strong enough signal to use any--it's just seeing that the sats are there.

Huh, I'll try ODINing to 4.1.2 then. If that doesn't work, I'll just sell it on eBay. Probably gonna get a Motorola Atrix HD (cheaper than SGS2, better res screen, but no hardware buttons or NFC).
Could you try running that app without the wifi/data on?
Also, for some reason my gps clock doesn't set like yours does. SMH.
Ok update, GPS is working, but it takes a LOOOOOOOOOOONG time to get locks.
It should be quicker next time... even my Garmin eTrex takes forever if I haven't used it in a while.

Yeah, actually it does work. But initially, it takes around 15 to 20 minutes (after boot that is), and then it grabs signal within 10 seconds.
Weird...Oh well, I don't even use the GPS. The CPU and GPU are super powerful, so it's a great phone I have my CPU overclocked at 1.7GHz and GPU underclocked to 177MHz (but it's still powerful. I don't play games on it).
