Hello, I've got a weird error that I don't even know how to begin tracking down. Not sure if this is an ICS issue, an app issue, or a device (hardware) issue.
Several times now, I get a problem were, after a reboot, all the text on my home screen - names for apps and text within widgets is mangled somehow. Like pixels inverted, or boxed over, etc. (see screenshot)

The first couple of times this happened, a single reboot made it go away. However with my latest occurrence, I've rebooted several times without a fix.
EDIT: It seems like my data connection may also require examination? Since on the 3rd or 4th reboot I was in my office with a solid WiFi connection (versus previous reboots I was in my car en-route), the problem has now gone away again.
My initial reboot this morning was as a quick-fix attempt at an absent data connection. Guess I'm off to research these "radios" everyone keeps on about...
EDIT 2: Ok, perhaps ignore the above. After a reboot made this go away, it has now come back spontaneously (i.e. just noticed it sitting in the cradle with the error again - no reboot this time.) CRUUUUD.
Are you using a custom Kernel? Some 'Overclock' the GPU to 512MHz, while Stock is 384MHz. Some devices can't handle the increase and cause screen artifacts. Post your Kernel details and I'm sure someone will point you in the direction of another Kernel if this is the case.
Not that I know of - should be all stock, since I haven't rooted or unlocked anything yet (just got the phone a couple of weeks ago).
Thanks for the help.
Stock launcher? Or using nova/apex etc?

Hi,
Another thread...:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646985
Nothing related to GPU overclock...just about this possibility...
Looking in different threads in Q&A/General.
If you are using the stock launcher...I think I saw a topic with this weird issue with the stock launcher...but I can not find it anymore
In any case clear data/cache of your current launcher, reboot and see...If you're on another launcher than stock,reinstall...
I speak only for the launcher issue.
Yep, stock launcher. Thanks for the other thread.
Seems to be at bay now. Will keep an eye on it.

Stock Tilt2. Every now and then there will be a bubble notification on the top of the screen, and when I tap on it the Notifications screen that comes up shows (underneath Medianet and battery) simply an exclamation point inside a circle, with no accompanying text. Clicking on it does nothing, and Dismiss All doesn't remove it. I have to soft reset to get rid of it.
Any ideas? (Other than flashing a new ROM! I'm actually perfectly happy with the stock ROM.)
This problem is happening on two separate Tilt2s, both with stock AT&T ROM; any ideas? Screenshot attached.

Give this a try ..
You should find a use for them, let them breed and then corner the market and sell them.
WarlockW's post should help you out.
If that cab does not fix it, are you running ActiveSync with Exchange?
I had a similar issue with my old phone. It was a problem with my account on the exchange server. I had to have my profile recreated.
No I dont use exchange. I have read around here others having the issue as well though.
I've only experienced with issue with cooked roms. The stock Verizon 6.1 rom never displayed that issue. Unfortunately, I've yet to find the cause.
Thanks for the help with this. I actually am using Exchange. I was using 2007 and updated to 2010 since posting (which involved rebuilding my mailbox), and haven't had the problem since. So perhaps it was that, but I'll post again shortly with an update after I've had some time using it.

Dagordon,
I think its a defect on some of the phones they rolled out. I called HTC support, and they did not have a solution. Good thing for me is that the phone was less than 30 days old. The guy at the dealership took it back with no questions asked when I showed it to him.
I would think that your only option is what you mentioned above (flashing it with stock ROM).
Damn. The problem persists, even with a new Exchange setup. And the fixunreadcount program doesn't fix it -- it'll run successfully but the empty notification will remain.
So rfrancoi, you're saying that this problem only happens on some Touch Pro 2/Tilt2s, as in a different one might not have the problem?
So today I applied a couple of updates and I "think" that Beautiful Widgets was the last prior to seeing "Geolocation Problem: Location does not exist"

What the deuce!!!! Never have had to do that before.
Thanks for letting me know najaboy, would have never figured out the reason. Would have fixed it without knowing as I use maps all the time, just wouldn't have known what fixed it.
OK, spoke to soon. It didn't pop up but this time I got an explanation somewhat... Still don't know how to fix it:
I just got this message for the 1st time (traveling on business). I just closed this message, and it picked up the right location immediately. I have it on airplane mode during the day since I can't get signal where I am during the day, so the phone + GPS might have been in a confused state.
I got the message once yesterday, and now since 3am EST It keeps giving me this error message. Even with GPS on AND opening Google Maps.
PS - Also, I read on Androidforums something about checking the alternate geocoder, but that option is greyed out for me.
PPS - I changed from Accuweather to Google Weather and it seems to be working now.
I have the same issue .. switching to GOOGLE for weather seems to fix the issue but I dont think it is providing the correct location as accuweather did
any fix?
Interesting, never seen that...I kinda want it to happen just to be like, ha, I don't exist right now.
I have the same problem with something fix for me
First of all I'm sorry for my English as I'm from Thailand
I got the exactly same problem and I tried many way to fix it out and what is work for me is
I go to application, Manage Application, and clear the Data for Beautiful Widget
Then I remove the home widget and Add the beautiful home widgets again and set the weather service for Accuweather then thing just come up and the problem just fixed
This is work for me.
Cheers
This is a year old thread bud, safe to say this isn't a common problem.
I've been using my One X for several weeks now (I think the hboot date is around early June so it's not one of the early batches) and so far didn't have any problem except for the following:
Twice, first a few weeks ago and the second time last night I saw some "artifacts". I'm not quite sure but I think different parts of the screen were affected each time. What happens is that everything is shown how it's supposed to be except for a 30%-40% area which looks a little like a computer screen right after a software/driver crash can look like. Without doing anything, it disappeared each time after less than a second.
I wasn't able to take a screenshot but the following photo shows how it roughly looked like. In my case, there were only lines and cubes in black, white and bright green instead of the more "fuzzy" parts shown in the photo.

Is this a driver issue? A lose connection? A display fault? I was close to unlocking my phone but with this having happened twice so far I wonder whether I should wait a little longer...
PS: It's probably unrelated, but like a minute later I encountered some "keypad ghosting" via swiftkey, i.e. I was pressing some keys on the keyboard and it was inserting several different ones each time. I do suppose that it's a software glitch, though, as I tried the stock keyboard another minute later and this worked fine.
If you can still swap your device with your retailer I would do that, just to be on the save side...
did u update to latest already?
if yes,
was it there before u updated..??
it doesn't look like a hardware issue
Did it act like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIY0_Hy2_mA ?

No, everything was where it was supposed to be and the artifacts faded away after probably less than a second.
I still have the latest stock Rom, haven't updated yet. I do think it's been more of a software glitch but I couldn't find information on here or anywhere else which would state a similar problem. Which is good?

Hey just thought I'd post this here and see if anyone else is having similar problems. I updated to the latest firmware a few weeks ago and ever since then my phone is dead after only 6ish hours with pretty average use in between. My battery stats are pointing towards the Google plus app as being the culprit so I force close it but it obviously keeps restarting.
Before the update I was able to go over a day before it would go completely flat.
Here's a screen grab of my battery stats, anyone have any ideas on what I can do to sort this out?

Oh and I forgot to mention, the phone is completely stock unrooted, locked boot loader etc.
Cheers.
Maybe try and uninstall updates to Google+ and reinstall. I had a problem after updating to 4.2.1 where Google+ kept syncing and it was solved this way.
Edit: Forgot to mention, my phone is stock with unlocked bootloader.
Cheers, I'll give that a go and see how it works out.
I just took my phone off the charger not long ago. Will post another screenshot when it's been on battery for a while, should give you a better idea of reasonable ratios.
Worst comes to worst, wipe everything (including SD) and start over. You could have some spooky ghost files and some cobwebs all up in your GNex!
My 4.2 Experience
i have been trying several 4.2 roms and with all of them i was getting the worst battery and also a very strange bug or at least i think it was a bug :silly: since i was using my phone normally and then all of the sudden the screen goes black but the phone still funtional it wasnt a SOD for example i was playing a game and then boom black and the sound vibration and everything all was keep on working i the end i decided to go back to CNA
Took another screenshot. I haven't used my phone so much today, but what you're seeing, OP, is definitely not normal.
I uninstalled Extended Controls. Battery stats for the app was ridiculous if the system app showed correctly. If I'm lucky I'll notice improved battery life now
Hey I'm having an issue with Handcent that I hope someone can help me with. This issue doesn't seem to be ROM specific, I've had it with every TW JB ROM and kernel I've tried.
At some point after booting, usually after exchanging ~30 or 40 texts, when I try to send a text it doesn't go through and my screen shows a blank conversation screen, with only the contact's name and number at the top (see first attached image). Then when I hit back, the thread list is also completely blank (see second attached image). In order to make the threads and conversations reappear I have to kill the app and go back in, but after sending another 2 or 3 texts the problem happens again. Only way to solve it for good (until sending another 30 texts) is to reboot the phone.
Has anyone else experienced this? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Handcent but that hasn't helped.

If its happening on multiple roms, it may just be a bug with the app
Have you checked the Play Store reviews to see if anyone else is having issues? Try rolling back a version as well, you can probably find an older version online
Also, clearing cache / data doesnt help? Did you restore any data between flashes, by chance?
I haven't seen anyone else mention the issue on Google Play. Haven't tried an older version of the app yet but I may have to give that a shot. Clearing data on the app didn't help, and I've wiped caches many times. I did restore some user apps with TB between flashes, but they're all games that I don't think would affect an SMS app.

I've had this problem (messaging specific, not handcent) where that eventually happens... And it's not rom or even phone specific... Its happened on my note 2 and my wife's gs3.only way to fix is to reboot the phone.
