Hey Guys,
I've been on ICS for awhile now, but I just switched back to Gingerbread. I must say I do like GB more (for now anyway).
Anyway one thing that really bugs me is the 4G icon on all the Gingerbread ROMs. I am currently running Blazer v4.0 and I was wondering how I could make the 4G icon be more like the 3G icon. By this I mean that instead of having the 4G icon like the WiFi icon, it is just like the 3G icon with the two arrows, much like the 4G icon is on the HTC EVO.
Please let me know if this mod exists (I searched without luck) or if it is possible. I would love to see this.
Thank you in advance.
You could go and edit the framework-res.apk yourself if you're up for that.
Edit: Actually, the 4g icons are in the settings.apk, sorry about that.
If you want I could try and whip out some 4g icons for you if you give me more of an idea of what you'd like. I'd still keep some way to show the signal strength though, as that should be kept and not exactly like the 3g icons that just show activity.
Well you see I live in an area were 4G is really strong so the signal strength doesn't really matter to me
I just like the look of the 3G icons much more with the up and down arrows that light up when they are in use.
I would love to create it myself, but unfortunately I don't have much knowledge when it comes to anything beyond the creation of the icons. I may however try to mess around with the settings apk to see if I could figure it out.
So ya, what I really would like is an icon just like the 3G icon, but that says 4G instead. Sort of like on Verizon phones: http://goo.gl/xOrsa
So I made some icons of how I imagine this to be. If anyone could help me figure out how to use them I would be very grateful.

I'm trying to think because I've only used 4G some in different places that have it not near me, does our phone change the icon when it is in use? Obviously it stops sleeping if it was, but does it flash or anything?

Actually I just connected to the almost nonexistent 4G at my house that I never use and it seems to stay static.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Pretty sure it stays the same. I think on of the main issues would be getting the up and down arrows to light up when in use. I guess both arrows could be off when its sleeping and on when its not? I really would like to have it be just like 3G though. I wobder if this may be something that could be developed...

I like the battery icon, did you make it yourself? That's about all I can say.
good but change wifi/3g icons nd also battery meter
i like the pull up menu u changed it 2 tho
I like it so far especially the battery. Keep it up. As far as the name, Hardcore Mixtape doesnt sound too bad, depending on where you go with it from here.

Sarcasm works even over the "internets".
loving the cassette tape touch. can't wait for final product.
dj equiptment; amps; speakers just to give some ideas
the knob meters are cool for like wifi or battery meter... "turn it up to 11"
the tape idea is good but it might be more unique if you honed it to a solid 80's retro look with a boombox and other tech from that time (ect)....
i like the theme sort of a 80's dj/casual retro feel to it... do you kno what direction you were headed with the clock etc?
im thinking maybe a slipmat ??
thanks for the replys...
as for the battery indicator, that was taken from a different theme (which I then found out it the other themer took it from rocketdock - hah!) - I have chosen not to stick with it because it's already being used. I'm starting to make my own but its just a battery. Thats the thing with making themes.. I mean sure, I can change icons to better suite the theme, I could have speakers and dj equipment as icons but what does that have to do with the icon? All the ideas are great like, the whole marking up to 11 thing from spinaltap but i mean, with the batteries and anything in the notification area, the icons are so small that you can't fit much or do anything really.
so i'm trying my best, i would like more ideas of what i can change some of the icons for messaging and the internet to..
as far as the clock, yes i was thinking a record player or a slipmat of somesort for the clock, im still thinking about it, im gunna do it even though i dont have or use a clock on my desktop..
i like the reetro look and if you continues to go with that you could always name it "flashback" or "back in the day" or some corny cheesy thing liike that. keep it up
you can name is "please listen to my demo" or "theme II - electric boogaloo"
dig the message indicator. can't wait for the final product.

Alright... So I'm 100% new to themeing... Never touched XML files before (didn't touch them here either lol) and I was really just looking to change some things that I didn't like about RLS5 and take some things that I liked from Warm Z RLS1 and kinda combine them. First I wanna thank Myn of course, I love both ROMS, and also wanna thank dmoses1969's as i used portions of his great theme "Black & Bold" for Warm Z. I used Ninjamorph for everything, and some of these custom icons I made were a pain! Especially the battery icon (combination of over 130 icons i think)! Let me know what you guys think. And your help/suggestions are appreciated. Also I would love to know where to go from here to make this flashable or whatever (still clueless on this one lol).
Notification Icons I have completed so far include: Music player, email, text message, text message error, voicemail, missed call, call on speaker phone, ringer silent, ringer vibrate, cellular signal, all 3g, all 4g, alarm clock, wifi (disconnected through max reception), all battery icons, bluetooth disconnected, bluetooth connected, gmail, file/app download arrow (animated), file/app upload arrow (animated), app update notification, sync (animated), USB connected, in-call muted, call connected, and wifi tether. Also have the icons in the power controls in the notification drop down (as seen below).
NOTE: I still cannot find where the icon is located for A. the wifi tether app icon that is @ top notification area (for RLS5), B. the USB icon also located @ top notification area, C. the icon that pops up when you have apps that have updates available (also in top notification area) D. icon in notification area showing you that a download is complete and finally E. i would love to know where the app drawer icons are located so I can start working on all of those. Here is what I have so far! MINTBERRRRRY CRUNCCCHHHHH! LOL.

I like everything except the wallpaper. I like how it says has the day/date spelled out vertically.....that's a nice touch. I'd like to have a regular clock with numbers at the top by the battery icon, though.
Also might want to post this in theme section
Do you guys know if it is possible to get an indicator that shows separate signal strengths for 1X and 3G bands like the old school phones? Like this:

It's built into Syndicate Rom and available in flashable .zip form for Bonsai.

Thanks for the quick reply, but im not talking about the 1x icon fix. I want the indicator that shows both at the same time like in the pic. Im running Syndicate.

Why would you want both? I mean no offense but it just doesn't seem logical to me.

No real reason just think it looks cool lol. Just wondering if it's possible. I would donate for such a request being done, of course.

Its not possible. The code for 1x and 3g is set to show what the status your radio is in.

Theres an app on the market called Real Signal, when enabled it shows Green and Red Signal bars in the status bar. Green is for CDMA 1xRTT Voice and Red is for EVDO Data. So it breaks it down to your Voice and Data signals. That is the closest i have found.

Seems like if that app can do it, it should technically be possible to make the native signal display split the two signal types up as well – but what do I know.
All I know is I'm happy just knowing the signal strength of whatever connection is currently active (and having the 1x icon fix).
Sure it'd be neat to see both, but in practice it'd just take extra space in the notification bar.
So I had full bars prior to rooting. No matter what ROM or where I am, I only have 1-2 bars. Sometimes 3 depending on where I am.
I checked the store model and it's full bars. Store's is running LG2. I just updated mine to the second which was LF9 from LEN thinking it would fix something. Took it to LG2 and same.
Anyone else experiencing this? Not really an issue, just a visual comfort.
Bars don't really mean anything. Run speedtest and see if they have changed. You can't always just go by how many bars you have.

Calls cut in and out constantly. It was never like that before. That's what I am going on. I call the bars Visual Comfort, since it makes you feel warm inside.
The other thing, I work at a store. The store model is solid and full. Mines 1 corner bar. Big difference. I only started to question it after my calls became unstable.
Huge difference.

It was in the E4GT theme and apps section.
It's just the transparent widget file. I can try to find it for you in a bit.

If it's not I can pull it from my phone and upload it later today.
So, you know how the lte->3g handoff sucks on aosp, well, examine these photos

Notice that it says lte. I'm not in a lte zone but lte works under this setting.
Now notice the network mode? That option is the option when you use the lte widget. It DOESNT say evdo. So possibly peoples lte-> elements are stemming from the fact that this mode doesn't have evdo. Just a theory. Comments? I noticed when I lost lte and didn't get 3g during this setting.
In front of a live studio audience
But that option is there for TouchWiz too. The aosp issue has something to do with an incorrect apn or something like that
But there evdo on touchwiz. Promise. The evdo is missing

Sorry, dont quite understand what you're trying to get at here?

He thinks a graphical mistake is our issue. I highly doubt such a thing would pass our many brilliant devs. Default for CM is for it to say that since the base is used for all of our alternates (att..T-Mobile..Verizon)

IDK. I have mine set to LTE/CDMA/EVDO, and I get 3G fine when I lose 4G. I'm using CM10.1. In fact, when I started this post, was on 3G. I'm now on 4G. The handoff was seamless.
Edit: I realized you meant it was an issue with using the widget, so I added the LTE toggle and turned LTE off then back on. My Network Mode screen still shows LTE/CDMA/EVDO and still connects to 3G. Perhaps there's a bug somewhere, but I don't think it's with the LTE widget.
In case it helps, I don't notice any extra battery usage over LTE compared to 3G, so I just leave LTE on all the time. I've never had an issue doing that. Perhaps you could, too, and the toggle widget bug won't be an issue.
The only issues I ever have is going back to 4g after losing it. Going from 4g to 3g is fine, 3g to 4g is a bit off.
