Do you guys know if it is possible to get an indicator that shows separate signal strengths for 1X and 3G bands like the old school phones? Like this:

It's built into Syndicate Rom and available in flashable .zip form for Bonsai.

Thanks for the quick reply, but im not talking about the 1x icon fix. I want the indicator that shows both at the same time like in the pic. Im running Syndicate.

Why would you want both? I mean no offense but it just doesn't seem logical to me.

No real reason just think it looks cool lol. Just wondering if it's possible. I would donate for such a request being done, of course.

Its not possible. The code for 1x and 3g is set to show what the status your radio is in.

Theres an app on the market called Real Signal, when enabled it shows Green and Red Signal bars in the status bar. Green is for CDMA 1xRTT Voice and Red is for EVDO Data. So it breaks it down to your Voice and Data signals. That is the closest i have found.

Seems like if that app can do it, it should technically be possible to make the native signal display split the two signal types up as well – but what do I know.
All I know is I'm happy just knowing the signal strength of whatever connection is currently active (and having the 1x icon fix).
Sure it'd be neat to see both, but in practice it'd just take extra space in the notification bar.

Wondering if anyone else is having this problem. Ever since the last Beautiful Widgets update they finally added a 4G toggle widget thankfully, but now whenever I reboot my phone it automatically turns on my 4G radio. Didn't realize it was doing it till I noticed my battery drastically dropping. I have reinstalled but keep getting the same results.

David is on the right track, submit a logcat. never happened to me.
I emailed the developer with my problem but didn't think about sending a logcat. Gonna send another one with logcat attached. Thanks. Funny thing is when I used this 4G toggle found here:
forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6694120&postcount=1
The same thing happened. You said you never had that problem so maybe its something going on with my phone or maybe the Rom and/or kernel.

Could be a big part in it. Wouldn't doubt if you had a bad kernel or a bug

I'm guessing it's a common problem. There is one stand-alone 4G toggle that specifically states it doesn't auto-start 4G on bootup...

No, I'm not plugging it, just giving you the linky. Personally I use Power Control Plus 'cause I like a unified widget bar rather than random squares, but that also auto-starts 4G
I've seen that bug as well. But it somehow fixed itself.
I'm guessing that you didn't immediately reboot after disabling 4g through the widget...

No I didn't but I will give that a try. Didn't read anyone complain about it in the comments in the Market but after reading some of the comments from the other toggle I tried and the fact that the dev of "4G Toggle for EVO " specifically states that it doesn't auto start on bootup leads me to believe that it is a problem with the Evo and not just my phone and or Rom/kernel combination. Thanks for the link. $0.99 is worth the try seeing as I use 4G often.
So i just flashed the latest ICS leak and so far i am loving it. my question is about the signal bar glitchy-ness. im not complaining. As much as asking if there is a solution yet. my 3g is about as reliable as mitt romneys voting record. Possibly could just be due to sprints ungodly slow data in my area. it wont allow me to update prl or anything? idk. any thoughts?

The signal bar is not yet stable. I'm surprised you're getting anything at all there. I wasn't able to update profile or prl either. I tried about 10 times...

This is the best comparison I've read all week.
So is it my actual signal that is spotty? it finally let me update profile and prl. but at work haven't tried a call yet. or is it just the signal bar visually freaking out. cause honestly. it seems data it actually working fairly well, although slowly. (sprint...)

It's the signal bar itself. It isn't displaying correct signal. You may have full signal but your bars will not show it
Edit: I was also able to update profile and prl
This is so cool though!

I read somewhere that the reason you may have "no" signal is because the fb17 signal indicator only has 4 bars as opposed to 6 bars on gb. So where before you would have one or two bars, now it only shows no bars. As far as i know even if it shows no bars, if the icon is there and not an "x" then you do have signal. I could be wrong though.

Hey Guys,
I've been on ICS for awhile now, but I just switched back to Gingerbread. I must say I do like GB more (for now anyway).
Anyway one thing that really bugs me is the 4G icon on all the Gingerbread ROMs. I am currently running Blazer v4.0 and I was wondering how I could make the 4G icon be more like the 3G icon. By this I mean that instead of having the 4G icon like the WiFi icon, it is just like the 3G icon with the two arrows, much like the 4G icon is on the HTC EVO.
Please let me know if this mod exists (I searched without luck) or if it is possible. I would love to see this.
Thank you in advance.
You could go and edit the framework-res.apk yourself if you're up for that.
Edit: Actually, the 4g icons are in the settings.apk, sorry about that.
If you want I could try and whip out some 4g icons for you if you give me more of an idea of what you'd like. I'd still keep some way to show the signal strength though, as that should be kept and not exactly like the 3g icons that just show activity.
Well you see I live in an area were 4G is really strong so the signal strength doesn't really matter to me
I just like the look of the 3G icons much more with the up and down arrows that light up when they are in use.
I would love to create it myself, but unfortunately I don't have much knowledge when it comes to anything beyond the creation of the icons. I may however try to mess around with the settings apk to see if I could figure it out.
So ya, what I really would like is an icon just like the 3G icon, but that says 4G instead. Sort of like on Verizon phones: http://goo.gl/xOrsa
So I made some icons of how I imagine this to be. If anyone could help me figure out how to use them I would be very grateful.

I'm trying to think because I've only used 4G some in different places that have it not near me, does our phone change the icon when it is in use? Obviously it stops sleeping if it was, but does it flash or anything?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Actually I just connected to the almost nonexistent 4G at my house that I never use and it seems to stay static.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Pretty sure it stays the same. I think on of the main issues would be getting the up and down arrows to light up when in use. I guess both arrows could be off when its sleeping and on when its not? I really would like to have it be just like 3G though. I wobder if this may be something that could be developed...

Hello all,
I have a dumb question, and I have searched google for the question pertaining to ICS, my phone/ROM, and also on my rom's thread here on XDA. It's tricky because the question is not a universally phrased question..
So I have my G2 on tmobile's prepaid plan and want to transition into it for a few weeks while I am still on my postpaid att plan with my fam. Thus I want to watch my G2 to see what the service/cell reception/coverage is around my area. Is it 4G, 3G, 2G?
How can I tell?? I went into the settings for ICS and found how to change the service indicator to numbers or an icon, but that doesnt show what speed (dont want to run around running speedtest, although I guess I could). Is there an app I should add or something that would track my service patterns (thats a cool idea actually)?
Thanks!
PS- I am extremely impressed with the 'outdated' G2 and its smoothness in handling ICS (Thanks dev)
Well one way to distinguish between 2G/3G areas easily is adding the following line to your build.prop (which is in /system/build.prop):
ro.ril.enable.3g.prefix=1
What that does is basically just show a 3G prefix on your stock lockscreen and the pulldown statusbar, when you're in a 3G area.
After you've written that on the build.prop you just have to reboot for it to take effect.
Thanks although that's french to me. I don't what you are talking, sorry I'm a newb. I can root and flash but that's over my head. I did notice if I turn off wifi it shows me an "H" but its quite small so ill try to be more aware going forward.
So it seems the coverage thing is either an "h" or "e" ... its a tmobile phone too

There is an indicator icon (as you mentioned) next to your signal strength on the status bar.
H - HSPA+/4G
3G - 3G
E - Edge/2G
If you're looking for a way to track, over time, how much is spent in a particular service, I don't know of any way to do that. There might be an application out there to keep track of it all.

Thank you. Thats what Im looking for. Problem is its super faint and very hard to see I think. Also it doesnt appear to show when wifi is connected ive noticed.
I like to use a network info app :

In my indicator it'll show 3G or H respectively.
setting : ro.ril.enable.3g.prefix=1 will pretty much always show 3G regardless if you got HSDPA going on so that setting is purely cosmetic. i.e.: "adds the 3G prefix to the operator name."
mainly had to make sure the following were set in my build property if using T-Mobile USA using T-Mobile G2 phone with the supporting radio bands:
ro.ril.hsxpa=3 (though there's no documentation to show that anything other than 0/1/2 is supported, I assume if anything higher than 2 is set it'll just default to 2)
ro.ril.hsdpa.category=10 (for ~14mbit/sec download)
ro.ril.hsupa.category=6 (for ~5mbit/sec upload)
HSDPA+ would be the 14mbit/sec, speed where as HSDPA would be the 7.2mbit as shown in my screenshot, I don't have too many areas in town where I actually see the H+ show up.
That looks great- exactly what I am looking for. I will check it out.
So, you know how the lte->3g handoff sucks on aosp, well, examine these photos

Notice that it says lte. I'm not in a lte zone but lte works under this setting.
Now notice the network mode? That option is the option when you use the lte widget. It DOESNT say evdo. So possibly peoples lte-> elements are stemming from the fact that this mode doesn't have evdo. Just a theory. Comments? I noticed when I lost lte and didn't get 3g during this setting.
In front of a live studio audience
But that option is there for TouchWiz too. The aosp issue has something to do with an incorrect apn or something like that
But there evdo on touchwiz. Promise. The evdo is missing

Sorry, dont quite understand what you're trying to get at here?

He thinks a graphical mistake is our issue. I highly doubt such a thing would pass our many brilliant devs. Default for CM is for it to say that since the base is used for all of our alternates (att..T-Mobile..Verizon)
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
IDK. I have mine set to LTE/CDMA/EVDO, and I get 3G fine when I lose 4G. I'm using CM10.1. In fact, when I started this post, was on 3G. I'm now on 4G. The handoff was seamless.
Edit: I realized you meant it was an issue with using the widget, so I added the LTE toggle and turned LTE off then back on. My Network Mode screen still shows LTE/CDMA/EVDO and still connects to 3G. Perhaps there's a bug somewhere, but I don't think it's with the LTE widget.
In case it helps, I don't notice any extra battery usage over LTE compared to 3G, so I just leave LTE on all the time. I've never had an issue doing that. Perhaps you could, too, and the toggle widget bug won't be an issue.
The only issues I ever have is going back to 4g after losing it. Going from 4g to 3g is fine, 3g to 4g is a bit off.
