Stock vs cyanogen mod roms - Galaxy Grand Duos i9082 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Guys share your experience on stock roms and cm roms...
My view:
Stock has multiwindow support , better apps, better camera quality, has dual sim support and no customization and has to stick with one but exposed modules somehow it works.
Cm roms has better graphics on some games , better customization , has better ram management, single sim support and has poor camera and no multiwindow support with some app compatibility issue.
Guys share your things so that other guys will not get confused to choose which Rom they want to use...:beer:

from my idea.....first thing ...as stock is limited to 4.2.2 only while cm has got 4.4.2(thanks to devs)
now camera u can consider as drawback!
customisation is cool
now main thing yoiu talked about multiwinddow feature!ya its not there....but wait for sometime and let carbon roms fully arrive(with halo) and other halo roms...thats actually a cool feature if i say!
as all games bugs are fixed , cm based are better!
but if u want all fancy thing!then its not a good cupcake for u...its simple and performansive! and trust me!one day you will get tired of tw things
for me...cm based things are amazing!
i never used multiwindow dat much except showoff times mahn!!! or cut and paste thing!!!!!!
eats alot of ram !!! but so looks attractive!

Agree dude and I'm on cm11 only and I love its fast smooth responsiveness and smooth gaming with improved graphics.

Opened the recents app window... CM11 uses only 280MB without any background app. Stock ROM uses 70-80% of RAM on idle.
Opened Atutu and ran a benchmark... stock gets about 6500, while CM11 gets double of that, 11500 to 12000. CM is just muuuchh faster.
CM camera is worse than stock. Basically no software optimization like what you found on Samsung's camera.
For people who bought Grand for its dual SIM support, well, in my opinion it's useless because it drains so much battery... so I felt no regret when moving to CM11 with its only single sim support
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Navigation keys are available on cm 11 with easy enable method whereas its painful on stock...HD games are really smooth on cm.

Right now on carbon rom......previously was on slimbean 4.2.2..never have bothered to switch back to stock.......was always aware of the pros and cons.but the pros outweigh the cons actually...........its a BIG relief after using these cm roms....we hope our respected developers would keep thier good work for making and updating these roms in future also..............
personally i dont use dual sim anyways but many ppl here are requesting for dual sim support in cm roms.........we can only keep our fingers crossed ...the day these roms offer dual sim facility..........just imagine.dual sim in cm roms on grand.............:good:

Guys one thing I can differentiate that stock based ROMs has more fonts legibility and clarity screen than cm ROMs even with 240 DPI on both isn't it?

Is calling function working on cm11? if not which cm version has it?

Both cm 10.1 and cm 11 has calling function...if you are on 4.1.2 base then go for cm 10.1 if you are on 4.2.2 base go for cm 11.

its illogical to say that!!!
screeen clarity is same on 240 dpi as that of stock!!!
just that over voo doo thing is no more
fonts are externally avalable if u really look into threads and especially for 4.4.2 , chotu has done it a an extent!
just tw features arent there................

audio quality are same(FYI, samsung dont use any special dolby mobile thingy or anything like that, )
first rule if u install non stock roms
1. always read every single thread and conversation , DO GOOGLE AND CHECK IF WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IS ACTUALLY TRUE OR NOT!
and ya...about cm's music, its same as stock mahn! its all about device capacity and few libaries for sound which are almost common in every roms(based on simple codes of android for output), rest is on hardware and limitations!
try some sound enhancers, tweak a little, search a lil, and you will get it what i am saying ! no offence mahn! sorry if rude ,dont mean to!

Personally i have felt cm roms have satisfied me better than stock roms on every count ( except DUAL SIM -- glaring ommission... which i m not using....but on the other way its only due to samsung releasing grand and we are using it and developers are working on it so that we are getting the taste of these roms...otherwise can we imagine 4.4.2 stock on grand so soon.....

One word... performance.
Owning a not-so-fast device such as Grand requires a fast ROM... It's better to lose some gimmicky Samsung features rather than suffer the lags. And Samsung is widely known for their bloated Touchwiz. The dual SIM is a worthy trade-off for me. :good:

What would you like in a ROM? (Somewhat Perfect?)

The title says all!
So comment below of what you would like to see in a Rom if I were Hypothetically making..?
BTW also comment what launcher you would like:
Touchwiz Launcher (Modded/Themed)
ssLauncher
ADW Launcher
Other
Cant really say launcher or something but abilities of a rom should be:
Speed
Stability
Battery life improving
Customizable
That points make me choose between roms

Your Beats Rom or something else?
Lightweight, fast, stable, battery saving, pretty theme like ICS ... I like all the customizable features of ADW in ArpegGio but it may or may not be slowing me down..
Unlocked... when I flashed ArpegGioMod my phone seemed to automatically unlock itself?
No bloatware (obvious)
Basically like ArpegGio but more stable.. GPS, Wifi, MMS/SMS, camera, etc. all native functions 100%
I like that menu where I can reboot/directly to Recovery etc..
Upgrades as mentioned by "beats" would be nice... it seems like I don't get my full volume potential on headphones when compared to my old BBCurve..
Native a2sd already included and setup (?)
So, somewhere between Damn Small Gio and your OmegaICS would be nice lol.. It would be nice if I could get Mupen64 playing Super Mario 64 on full speed! Might be dreaming though..

Aosp vs touch wiz? Which is better?

The main question is which is better touchwiz or aosp? Here everyone can base there opinions on each type of rom. The pro's and con's of each type. Is touchwiz or is aosp better? That is the question

TW: gaudy but plenty of added features
AOSP: clean and unobtrusive, more substantially moddable
AOKP is my daily, but I flash TW ROMs when they catch my eye.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
AOSP: can't take advantage of eHRPD to transition from 3g to LTE fast and cleanly because eHRPD is proprietary. So it takes ages to switch back and forth and you lose data.
TW: doesn't have this problem and has other features that AOSP doesn't have along with the other features that AOSP does have.

I've always been a HUGE fan of CM/Aosp. I tried 5 or so tw roms on d2spr and I think they are all AmAzinG and tw has came a loooong way, (new tw is better than older versions..) and we have some VERY skilled devs who build tw roms on d2spr but I favor Aosp. WiFi tether works on Aosp now and does not on tw which I use from the to time to use my Nexus 7 when away from home and no WiFi is available... Some reasons i prefer Aosp: Because its Android open source project not Samsung. I love CM and the theme chooser!! Don't have to boot back into recovery to add mods, we can just install a theme, reboot & in a few secs & completely changes the phone and the themes are endless on the playstore. Theme chooser rocks!!! The roms are small and have no bloat/ extra apps added.. On Aosp you can use inverted gapps package or reg, you choose & they aren't built in like tw. (HUGE deal to me to have a big variety to choose from, so many different apps to choose from..) I love all the different kangs! Development blows up on Aosp and there are constant updates straight from source and I love flashing!! [certified crackflasher in 3 states] :what: Aosp is on Jb 4.1.2 now and tw is on 4.1.1. I'm a long time member of the neXus forever club and owned every Nex phone ever made and I just couldn't hold off till next Nex dropped so I purchased the d2spr, not disappointed, really do love this phone and all the roms are great, Tw and Aosp... I like the entire open source community and I think its great that ppl learn and work together and a share their work and ideas and make the whole Android experience better than it already is!! I support open source and always will. Been very broke lately but have donated several times 10$ here and there to devs. (Coming soon, had some unexpected events come up) Guess that's about it, my opinion anyway.

Aosp every time. Mainly it's a trade of features that gets me. I hate the aosp camera (main gripe ) but love the lock screen the theme engine and swipe brightness feature. I also detest the alarm clock in aosp. The cleanness ofthe install is a breeze to work with much easier to cut away all the fat in the system apps
The dialer is nicer in aosp in the end I usually go back to aosp because the battery is fantastic and I can have pretty themes o and the volume to skip track option is tip top

Haha. As if the inconsistent capitalization and spacing wasn't enough of a giveaway... But I'm going to try to ignore the anti-grammatical OP and toss in my opinion anyway.
I personally tried to like Touchwiz when I first got the S3. I heard it was different. It was a big leap forward for Samsung's UI. It was supposed to be good. It's not (IMO). It does have a lot of useful features, but I kept finding more and more of the features to be super gimmicky. For instance, I know a lot of people find Smart Stay to be very useful, but it never worked for me, even in well-lit areas. I never used the motion or voice controls. They seemed unintuitive and clunky. The fact that the phone wakes on any received SMS/MMS and I can't change it without a 3rd party app is a big con for TW. Not only that, but I thought the color scheme was hideous - there were always either too many colors or the ones that were used clashed so badly that my eyes physically hurt from looking at the screen. Yeah, I can theme it, but can't it at least be tolerable out of the box like Sense or stock Android? Then, there's the lack of scrollable wallpaper with no way to change it; the immovable App Drawer icon; the immovable, unconfigurable toggles in the notification tray; the lack of native WiFi tether (I barely use it, but I like to know I can when I need it). On top of all that, in order to get decent performance out of the stock ROM, I had to disable at least 25 useless apps. And even then, there were performance issues (anyone who's used the XDA app in Touchwiz long enough knows how unusable it becomes; and that's the least of the problems). I just found Touchwiz to be too limiting of an experience for me.
On CM, I'm a lot happier. I don't theme the ROM because I don't feel like it's necessary; there is no gaudy purple/florescent green color combo anywhere, and the color scheme as a whole is much more cohesive. I have all the features I need and want to use without any of the problems. I get to customize it however I want. I don't have to disable a ton of apps that I can't uninstall. I get WiFi tether built into the ROM. I get everything I need without the gimmicks.
Frankly, if the best thing from Touchwiz that I'm missing is the camera (and it is), then I don't see the point in using Touchwiz over CM. Everything just feels a lot more streamlined here; less in-your-face.
Long time Sense user, hell this is my first Sammy. The reason I don't use AOSP is because as someone else mentioned, it is not completely bug free and the camera is not to my liking. I keep flip flopping back and forth but end up going back to touchwiz because of the gestures and motions built into the system.
If AOSP ever got the swipe to call and other touchwiz gestures and a better camera I would be all over it. Oh and the data swap/signal loss is what is really keeping me away from AOSP.
On a side note every time is see AOSP I was to say ASOP, like the fables lol!
That really is the only reason I have not gone AOSP. The length of time it takes switching from 3g to LTE and back. I would try it out if they fixed eHRPD to fix the data problem.

WiMax was cracked. What makes you think this won't be?
Plus eHRPD is a standard of the Third Generation Partnership Project 2. The are a non profit organisation. So I highly doubt eHRPD is proprietary. That doesn't mean things that depend on it like driver code isn't. But it will be fixed--soon.

Um...everything. eHRPD not working takes data forever to transition from 3g to LTE, a deal breaker IMHO. When they fix it (if they fix it since it will take reverse engineering to achieve that) I will try AOSP.

It's not like Wimax. They don't have to reverse engineer anything this time. I don't know why you'd assume that. The only reason it hasn't been fixed is that the devs didn't have access to upgraded towers yet. Now that NV is spreading and more people can test the RIL settings, it should be fixed very soon. The most recent test build even had it mostly fixed. If I lost data on it, it was for 5 seconds at the most, and most handoffs were seamless. It's just a matter of time now.
Yeah aosp aside from me plain old liking it, is a sortof investment. You run it, you test it. It constantly improves. When sprint doesn't even support this device any more aosp will still be getting updates. And will inevitably come to out perform tw with enough time

I thing there is miss understand I didn't mean that the stock kernel work at the max power but what I want to say that we must know that some developers can do good work even more better then some company's . CM is good example and even some company push customer to use non stock ROM with there weak support and update...
.... Using CM on your Optimus G let you make sure that the stock ROM is sooo bad behind it,,, I was thing different before ..
Hhhh
You let me lose my question friends any idea about kernel ???

@ramiab8,if you think an unofficial rom is better than the firmware lg provided, thrn why do you have these issues? Your post should be ignored from start, because no one will support you for a custom rom. There are so many things that could go wrong on cm/pa/aosp/aokp roms... and you have no idea what are you talking about. Could you tell me how does cm "let behind stock so bad?" For bigger results in benchmarks?who gives a crap about tests?I tried all custom roms out there, didn't missed one,but in the end i got back to stock. Why?well, for all lg features, for a stable firmware that don't crash on me when i least expect. True,it's a modded stock, but it's way better than any aosp. I play alot of games,i never encountered the slightest issues so far.

Indeed LG did a very good job in terms of gaming performance on android 4.1. Nevertheless it can be even better. I have never had those problems on CM10.2 nor on CM11. All mentioned games are running lagless, without reducing my display-brightness
maybe you can try again with another kernel?

Dear kimitza i thing that you don't know what you are talking about at all !!!! first everyone can have issues in original ROM and non stock ROM (you never heard about that !!!!) nothing can be complete be I SAID more better that is totally different !!! i thing you have no idea about what i am saying !!! and even you are talking about benchmarks !!! i didn't say any word about benchmark!!! even i didn't trust them i only trust the real use (did you ever heard about real using or not !!!) i am very hard user i find many disappointing in using the stock and these things i didn't find them in CM !!! (before i was thing like you but after test i found that is wrong) maybe as normal user you can find stock more better for you !!! if you are happy in LG features i find them like baby features!!! at the end i asked question but you are not able to answer me !!! if you thing that what i say not right for you don't answer me at all and don't try to give me lesson in something i know more better then many others !!!
Boing! Dude try latest version of Vanir 4.3.1. Thinks its the best performing aosp rom for our phone. And they're still updating, not like cm. MC4 awesome, A8 on highest settings also really good.
why did you bought a branded phone?to flash aosp based rom on it?why didn't you bought a nexus?it has vanilla on it,no "baby features". Then you wouldn't complain of laggy games on custom roms.I see what kind of power user you are ...I just don't understand how could someone complain about anything on a custom rom, without realising it's not the phone,it's the software with issues.Again, a power user would know the differences,but....what do i know?i'm a total newbie.

(((Then you wouldn't complain of laggy games on custom roms.I see what kind of power user you are ))))
i know what i am ,,, and i don't want any one to tell me what i am then i said i have problems in games i didn't say lag's at all !!! you thing that the problems in games is only lags !!! are you sure that you use mobiles at all !!! i see how much you know about mobiles !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! then asking is shortcut to many things friend if you don't know !!!
(((I just don't understand how could someone complain about anything on a custom rom ,,,without realising it's not the phone,it's the software with issues.Again, a power user would know the differences)))
hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh you don't hear that many custom ROM developers ask about any issues even in games i see that you know well !!! i will let you told somebody else about your fantastic ideas, but for me i need answer from someone who really know what he said !!! not just talking words without meanings at all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks cyraxx84 i will see that one ,,,
ok...i give up...you are right...a custom rom will always be better than stock...i respect the devs for their work, i supported the asylum project(this i'm very fond of,but i supported many more) both here and galaxy note, even donate. But i'm realistic. I realize a code made from scraps will never be better than the official one. simple as that. Look more into it mr "power user" and learn how things work before making affirmations. Oh,and the font you used,yea...very mature .anyway...case closed...

ProBam Vs Cm11

what is the best ?
probam or cm11
probam is very good but still lacks much arrangement, cm11 is also good but not as fluid as carbonrom ... CarbonRom is ideal for daily use rom is the perfect rom to play and hear music and there are no problems with this either no obstacles or whistling sounds or cuts to navigate both chrome or with dolphin is totally smooth, to use very many applications, the camera works perfect, perfect, I prefer Carbon Rom
Well its difficult to say..
Cm11 is base of it first of all..
As it is cm11 base and then added extra features...it got a bit leaa battery backup(if u use the features).. I mean..probam is loaded with hell of features....many of em..multiwindow and halo...and active display..blurr lockscreen...and notification on lockscreen...many of em...while cm11 is basic and simple rom..
But as they say... With great power comes more bugs .. The features in it are not greatly integrated..u can find many bugs while u using it..(not big..bt small and annoying for me)..i have posted too many times ..just read probam pages n u ll get it..
So on one hand is cm11...rom with basic aosp feeling...and on other is probam with hell of loaded amazing and beat features so far u can see on any custom rom..
Battery is also good..
Bad part is as gapps are preincluded...in the flashable package...and when u boot in ART..gapps FC's... So its worst thing they did including gapps in zip...
U cant use ART
Personnel advice...
Use carbon id u want ART and good battery...use slimkat for light weight...
Be a medium guy and use omni like me...test ur patience and take chances with probam.. ..hope i helped

I have been using pawitp's CM for forever now First CM10.1, now CM11... also tried ProBAM for 3 days.
If you 're looking for a stable and minimal ROM with no conflict of any modifications you want to add later on... CM is for you. No ROM has beat its stability and seamlessness. There's a reason why Cyanogen team has the most popular custom ROM in the world, it's because they're just so freakin good at it.
For performance... I think Slimkat has already beat CM due to its minimalistic approach... and I haven't tried Carbon yet.
ProBAM is well... a product of experiment. For people who wants no sacrifice, who wants to live on the edge and get all coolest features from all sorts of ROMs. If that's the kind of guy you are... go for it. Be prepared to face some glitches though, even though they are not major bugs that hinder the main functionality as a phone... it still needs further polishment to be suitable as a daily driver.
I think cm11 would be a good rom for you if you have to use it daily with no confliction and stable performance(even I am using cm11 right now)
On the other hand ProBam is for users who want to have the extra features squeezed out from their phone.
I prefer cm11:victory::victory::victory:

[Suggestion] Stable ROM for Xperia S 4.4?

Hei guys,
Most probably this question has been asked already, but since then more updates had been followed.
I'm running a FreeXperia 4.1.2 ROM on my Xperia S, and I would like to change to a newer version (preferable 4.4.x) that is fitting a day-by-day use. What would you recommend me?

If You want extremely stable, go for Mokee. We still have official support from it. Second most stable according to Me is Carbon, but it has less frequent updates.
mokee?
Don't u have force closes ?
I think crDROID is most stable if your looking for KitKat rom
Never-ever use CrDroid for daily-use, it's kinda nice rom although you'll get alot (well, a few but still) of random reboots, it has very much customization options but with cost of stability.
Carbon Rom was quite nice 4.4.4 but the battery lasts half day with it...so it's also bad idea to use it.
I also used AOSPX, Paranoid, CM 11 and Mokee but can't say much about them because they were on my XS only for a few minutes - didn't liked any of them but I've heard much good things about AOSPX so you can try that one.
Otherwise I don't recommend any 4.4 roms, better stick to 4.1
I would recommend using PA or Carbon, both are stable ROMs of 4.4.4 for Xperia S. Carbon has more customization than PA, but PA is like semi-lollipop. Both give you 721 MB of RAM against 621 MB of stock JB.

AOSPX works very well. Only problem is you can't use your phone for calling. Oops.
Call volume does not do anything AND the other end can't hear you. So if you don't want to talk with anyone it's afine rom

Good for you but it doesn't do much for me.
And for the record, I just had to completely wipe my XS so it's not likely that either.
I guess I'll give PA a shot and if it won't work, I'll go back to 4.1. I'n any case I'm just using the phone as for a 2nd sim card to pick up calls and little else. Stock rom has this aggravating bug with PIN codes where the android phone will keep on crashing, so..
The best overall rom so far
For me the smoothest, fastest and most stable is the carbon rom build 20140808-1848
Also customization options available... try it you wont regret it...
I experienced crdroid, it's a great rom but has some bugs and reboots a few times in a day. I have been using CARBON rom (20141103 build) for 3 weeks, and I'm very happy with it. It's very stable for me.
Well, Paranoid android v4.4.4 also had the same very low voice problem in-call. At least the other guys can hear ME but I can't really hear THEM. I also grabbed the low voice fix and installed it but it didn't help.
I think I'll check the OpenSEMC-U 10.1 now, lots of people seem to like it. (that's 4.2)
Nope, same problem. 4.2.2 CM10.1 has very very low volume in-call as well. And, yes, I did wipe, install new kernel blah bloody blah blah.
*sigh* I guess it's back to the official "android phone has stopped" firmware :crying:
Try LP nAOSP or AOSP, they are better then 4.4
