Can I buy the nexus 7 LTE version from google play and use it abroad? Has anyone done this? Would appreciate any information on countries one could use the nexus.
It'll work fine a road, but you probably won't have LTE. You'll have to make do with HSPA+.

He may get it depending on which country he's in. The NA version of the N7 LTE supports LTE bands 1/2/3/4/5/13/17.
1 - Macedonia
3 - Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France (Bouyges), Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Span, Switzerland, UK
2, 4, 5, 13 and 17 aren't used in Europe.
Unfortunately, the main bands are 7 and 20. So it's possible you'll get LTE but even in those countries, some are 7 with some 3 (France for example) so you might find 3 support spotty.
Annoyingly, Canada is 4 and 7. So we have a similar problem with the NA N7 LTE. It's ok right now - but there's a growing move to 7 which will make this device a problem in a few years.
Thanks for the information guys, those are very helpful details. Am guessing the nexus 7 available from google play unlocked? The price of the unlocked version and the carrier version is the same and that got me thinking if there was a catch.
Could you use the nexus 7 with a SIM to make calls?

They're all unlocked. They just include a carrier SIM for added convenience. There's no such thing as an N7 LTE that's locked to a carrier.

I actually just bought the unlocked N7 for the same reason to travel aboard, and i didnt want carrier locks while there and having to mess to much with unlocking to insert different sims. But, i just got a Tmobile SIM, they have a plan called Simple Choice plan. They are giving free 2G of data on top of the plan you purchase from to over 100+ countries they have service. I pay $50/month for 6.5G of data for US service. I think they have a plan as low as $30/month for 2.5G US Service. And when i travel next year, to a country listed, i will get 2GIG a month, which is totally cool when im only there for two weeks anyway.
And if the country is not listed, then i just buy a local sim for data and never have to worry because the device is unlocked.

So you get 2 GB ON TOP of the 6.5GB?! That's awesome.
How about the minutes, though? If someone casks you at your US numbers and you answered, how much is the per minute cost?

I thought i read somewhere thats calls were .20 per minute. I dont have phone capabilities. So i dont care. I talked with a rep, its unlimited text and data on 2G network for 100+ countries. You can buy 4g/lte data at $5 for 500MB and $10 1GIG for 7 days. The 200MB is for US service not overseas. i hope that clears up the confusion.

I am thinking about getting the touch pro 2, and instead of waiting until AT&T finally releases it, I am thinking about biting the bullet and buying the unbranded unlocked version. My question is will the 3G still work. I have heard that 3G does not work on non-AT&T phones, or is that only if you buy an unlocked TMobile phone? Thanks for any help you can provide.
Search the forum, this has been answered 7,000 times.
Sorry, I did search and came up with thousands of answers and none of them seemed to answer my question specifically.
Ok, here the answer again by 7001 time
Europe original unbranded version will work only in Europe and Asia 3G and not in America networks
Just ordered the Tmo version today but I really like the unlocked version. Do you guys think there is a possibilty that the Euro version has support for AWS and is just not activated! I'm pretty sure this has been asked, but a search brought me no specific results. Why can't Tmobile just leave well enough alone!
7002
no, it won't work with AWS. only the Tmobile version does. EU doesn't work with any North American 3G, etc, etc, etc....
You could purchase the unlocked Australian version; 3G should work here, but that will cost $$$$.

Lol!
That is very expensive!
better to try in clove uk in about 750usd
I don't see any support for 1700 mhz band in that AU version though.

No one else in the world supports 1700mhz, only T-Mobile.
Thanks
Thanks for the information. Saved me from buying an unlocked version that won't work on AT&T's 3G. Will just have to wait for AT&T, just hope it isn't that long of a wait.
Would I be able to buy it from AT&T (when available) on a separate, new account, unlock it, pay the termination fee, and use it on my regular AT&T account with little problem? It's cheaper to terminate than buy off contract, most of the time, as long as they don't give me any trouble. Should it work?
hi there, i want to know if there's gonna be an unbranded / unlocked version of the TP2, WITH 850/1800/1900 3G band support?

Great! thanks a lot for the info!
If anyone had experience buying with that store would be great to hear the input!!
Thanks in advance,
I have an unbranded TP2. I didn't want to wait any longer for AT&T to release theirs and I don't like the way they are going with their keyboard layout. I know 3G is important for most folks, but my essential needs is data connection for email and EDGE is doing a pretty damn good job. Maybe if I am waiting in line or something related to that, I may wish I had a faster connection to watch youtube, but for the most part, I have no regrets.

Yes that should work. But, how much is the termination fee? If you are paying $200 less to sign a 2-year contract then I'm sure the termination fee will be at least $200. Otherwise, I can't imagine at&t would make it that easy. Plus I'm sure you will have to pay for the first month of service, you won't get that back.
HI all, I am in UK and really want to buy the NOTE 2 now. Problem is, amazon UK only sell the non LTE version. I'm sure there will be an LTE version coming out as TMobile is launching theirs next week here - soon everyone will follow, and I'm willing to wait a few months.
But here is the question:
If I'll buy a Note 2 LTE version in UK, will it work in USA? I have been to the Samsung demo booth and asked the pretty girls about it but they all did not know the answer....
Thanks

Firstly it sounds like you need to do some more research on LTE in the UK.
T-Mobile are not launching LTE, EE are. You will need a contract with EE to be able to get 4G. You will be able to move from T-MOB to EE easily but there may be an early cancellation fee (unless EE let you waive that) and tarrif costs for EE have not been released yet, but you can expect them to be high £45+ per month at a guess), also there is no word yet on what data limits EE will impose, but they will not be unlimited I am sure of that.
Secondly you need to check what LTE bands EE will be using then make sure the LTE phone you purchase covers those same bands.
Thanks for replying.

Well, from what I understand, EE is another arm of TMob and I got an email from them saying my signal will start to show EE instead of Tmobile anyway. I am currently with Tmob and am due for an upgrade in 2 months. Those facts don't matter to me because I will be moving soon to the USA, maybe early next year. Hence my original question. I wanted to buy a future proof phone which I can keep for 2 to 3 years and that it will work in USA.

This quite gives me an idea of what to look for, and I have read last night. Wikipedia says USA operates 700mhz, while in UK I think is 800mhz if I understood what I read correctly.
Again that is why I asked the question, to have a quick answer from people who know.
You are about to be connected to a new connection sales advisor for T-Mobile UK. Please note they do not have access to existing customer details and cannot process upgrades or queries related to an existing T-Mobile account. If you have a query of this nature please contact customer services on 0845 412 5000 or 150 from a T-Mobile handset..
You are now connected with Nicole.
Nicole: Hi there, my name is Nicole. I am part of the dedicated T-Mobile Online Sales Team. How can I help you with your new order?
Nicole: Hi Ric, good afternoon
ric: Hi just want to ask about the new note 2 on lte
Nicole: I will certainly help you with that
Ric: Can the phone still be used on 3g network? Or will it only work on 4g ?
Nicole: you will get 3g as well as 4g network with this phone you need to sign for 4G services after 4G gets launched
Nicole: Thank you for expressing interest in T-mobile!!! May I ask you few questions to get you the best deal?
ric: Ok, will the handset work in USA's 4g lte as well or is it specific to uk/europe only?
Nicole: Right now 4G is going to be launched only in 16 Uk cities so its not available any where else
ric: That is because uk is always late, usa has lte since last year, that is why I am asking if tmobile note 2 lte version will work in the US
Nicole: I am so sorry Ric, we don't have 4g available with us right now for using abroad
ric: what I am asking is if the note 2 hanset you are launching on EE will work on LTE network abroad specifically in the USA
Nicole: At the moment we are launching only in the 16 major cities in the UK may be in the future you may get the 4G in USA
ric: Sorry if I am confusing you, ill rephrase my question, will I be able to use the note 2 handset that you are launching on the EE network if I use a LTE sim card from another provider in the USA? Reason I ask is I travel quite a lot abroad.
Nicole: Yes Ric, you can get 4G if you are using any other LTE Sim you need to unlock the phone for using any other sim
ric: Ok, thank you. I am due for upgrade in 2 months time and I only want a 1 year contract
Nicole: Are you looking for an upgrade on your existing contract with T-mobile ?
ric: yes, though just on my existing 3g, but I want the note2 LTE phone
Nicole: I'm glad to know that you are our valued customer & are willing to extend your relationship with us
Nicole: As you happen to be our valued existing customer we have an upgrades team which looks after your requirement
Nicole: Deals that you see on the website are applicable for new connections whereas due to your existing relation with us you will qualify for deals exclusively for our existing customers
Nicole: Ric, This chat option is for new customers and popped up since you selected "NEW" to T-mobile. Similarly we have a chat option for upgrades - all you need to do is login on your T-mobile account and select "looking for upgrade"
Nicole: Is there anything else I can help you with today?
ric: Ok then, thank you for your time, i will login later
Nicole: Thank you for chatting with us today. You can rate my services at the end of this chat by simply clicking the 'End Chat' button.
Nicole: Bye Ric
from what i have read you cannot simply go out and get a lte uk note2 (when they are released on the 15th oct) and then jump on a plane and fly to usa take out sim and replace with another vendors lte sim card and use lte.
reason ...incompatible LTE wavebands.
hence a lot of americans having to wait until there providors have launched there LTE phones such as at&t and verizon.
the uk model will only work with uk wavebands and even then untill the 15th oct we dont know which it will cover... me im hoping for all 3 uk bands so itll cover 02 when they come out with lte next year.
so if your going to america get one from a provider/isp over there
hope that answers your question.
The thing is, this phone will be counter intuitive if it works that way specially to those who really travel a lot, so one would need to buy a NOte 2 for each country they travel to ???
I'm still hoping there will be something like a 4G LTE quad band that will work with most countries. I might wait a bit longer then and see what will be the compatibility like.
exactly what im doing..... waiting to see what its compatability is...
also i want 32gb version so got to wait anyway
rumour has it that is out after christmas now if true that too sucks ...
might get an iphone 5 then.... LOL

only the nokia 920 and LG optimus G is down to have universal LTE quad band antenna/chips ........found that out today.. heck even the iphone5 only supports one frequency and even that the uk doesnt work in usa.
think there should be a standard chip covers all of them or at least reprogramable via firmware so it can be changed should as your doing go abroad ...

Yes, that's right. I haven't been to England with my I747, but I've been to Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and Norway with this phone and it worked like a champ with local SIM cards once it was SIM unlocked.
Check around for prices in England too. I know for example in the Netherlands, Lebara was far cheaper than TMobile. Lebara is a British company, so it's home market prices may also be pretty cheap. Don't feel the need to use TMobile just because you use them in the US.

All,
I'm over in the US on Sunday for business again.
I'm thinking of buying an AT&T Note 8 off someone over there.
Will a UK sim card work or will I have to ROOT and install a custom ROM...etc to get it to work?
Not too worried either way, as long as it works!
Thanks

I dont think so..
1- They will be locked to att, unless you are able to get an unlock code from att
2- Att note 8 does not support phone fn. It supports LTE for data alone.
You will need to simunlock it. I did it for mine and it worked perfectly.
Tought, the device is LTE, it has 3g capabilities so it works in the uk also.
The only thing with the ATT model is that there is no mic and speaker to use it as a phone.
You need to be unlock first i think

First off AT&T does NOT offer a 3g model, it does offer a 4g LTE DATA only and a WiFi model. Meaning they are not voice compliant. Once you're here you can call AT&T store and ask.
I bought one and unlock it using fastgsm.com they charge me like 30 dollars for the codes and I am using it without any problem in Costa Rica with a ICE sim card on a 3G network

Is there anyway to Sim unlock the galaxy note 8 without paying one of those shady unlocking sites ?
I bought this unlocked, but I've unlocked several AT&T phones by just calling and asking. I've never even been an AT&T customer.
How are you getting sms? I'm unlocked on T-Mobile USA and I still have no sms or stock tethering.
A international version will work in the U.S and Europe. I have one , n5100 on a AT&T phone plan. You just need the sim card.

The i467 has the tethering capability removed. The ability to do sms is a function of the the plan you're on. Texting (and voice) to a phone number can be disabled by the carrier. I have the N5100 and use Google Voice, thus flexibility to use either tablet plans or smartphone plans. On AT&T's DataConnect plan, texting worked but I was charged 25¢/msg. T-mobile's 100 min/5 GB includes unlimited texting. My 5100 was allowed on the plan, I don't know if that would be the case with the 467. If texting is important, another option (albeit expensive) is putting it on a smartphone plan. Probably the best option is to commit to a 3rd party ecosystem if your family & friends are on board, or Google Voice if they're not.

Sorry man, no idea. But do you have an android phone? If so, root that sucker and use wireless tether as a hot spot for your tablet. That's what I do, seeing as if I ever leave the house my phone is guaranteed to be with me. I personally, for my life, don't see the need for a 3G or LTE version.
Unfortunately my phone is galaxy nexus which already has a crappy battery, using it as a WiFi hot spot would drain the battery even faster. one of the reasons I'm buying a tablet is to save my phone's battery while in work. I'm willing to pay extra $50 for unlocked 3G version.
