hello!
i have an ATT SGS3 i747 unlocked/rooted for use on tmobile.
my question is, will i be able to use this phone while in england/ireland?
i know i can buy a SIM card in the airport. but ill probably just get one from tmobile over there.
will this be possible? or should i just buy a cheap phone while there? pretty sure ill be able to make wifi txt to USA if need be.
any help with this is greatly appreciated!
If it is carrier unlocked then it will work in England/Ireland.

Yes, that's right. I haven't been to England with my I747, but I've been to Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and Norway with this phone and it worked like a champ with local SIM cards once it was SIM unlocked.
Check around for prices in England too. I know for example in the Netherlands, Lebara was far cheaper than TMobile. Lebara is a British company, so it's home market prices may also be pretty cheap. Don't feel the need to use TMobile just because you use them in the US.

I got my son a 3 sim card for about 17ukp (per month) - that gave him 3gb data and about 500 mins. Apparently you can get Sim card vending machines now at the airport arrivals.

Hello. I have a AT&T GSM Touch Pro 2 and am visiting Spain soon for a little over a week. I am interested in primarily getting data services (not concerned with making phone calls). Can anyone give me info on if this is possible and what to watch out for?
I would like to get email access mainly, but would love to use google maps and other internet apps. Will these work still? Specifically, do I need to talk to AT&T at all and where or how do I buy/rent a sim card in Spain? Obviously, I want to keep this as economical as possible - how much should I expect to be charged?
Thanks for the help!
yes you'll be able to use your tilt2 in spain with data and 3G. spain's networks use 900/1800 gsm and 2100 3g (umts) and the tilt2 supports those bands.
There are several networks you can choose from in spain, among them are vodafone, telefonica (movistar), and Orange. Once you get there pretty sure they sell them in the airports but also in the supermarkets.
From my experience of traveling abroad (europe and middle east) the data rates on prepaid sim cards are pretty high. But its prepaid so it'll only use what you put in, no going over.
Try googling for vodafone spain, orange spain and telefonica spain and see if they're sites have the prepaid rates.
Overall you won't have to use your At&t sim card, which i highly recommend you don't because you don't want to come back to an enormous bill with international data (which i did once!)
Hope this helps and enjoy your trip
Wow! What a great and thorough response. Other than HardSPL for rom flashing, I have not specifically unlocked my phone. Do I need to do that before using a vodafone, for example, sim? I thought I read recently that AT&T will unlock your phone for this sort of thing - any experience with that?
Thanks again!

Oops, my bad, that completely slipped my mind. Yes you will need to sim unlock your device. Call At&t and they will provide the unlock code for you. Tell them you are going overseas for business and they will offer you an international plan, just tell them your not interested and they'll ask for you imei number (have it ready before) its found under your battery, on the side of your box, or by calling *#06# on your phone and the imei will pop up in a notification.
They will give you the unlock code and for your device to prompt you for the code, you will have to put a non-At&t sim card in your phone. So either grab one from a friend that has t-mobile or just wait till you get there and make sure you have the unlock code with you
Perfecto! Muchas Gracias!

Hi all,
My brother bought me a Sprint phone in US and I want to use it in Israel - can that be done?
I mean, he told me that the phone is somehow locked to Sprint, but he paid a full price with no plan or anything so I'm guessing the the phone is probably Sim-Free?
Can the phone be somehow unlocked and used in Israel with all the features?
The phone uses CDMA technology so it can't be used worldwide.
You'd need a GSM phone since those work on worldwide common frequency and work with a SIM card.

Also, you need to get the international model, NOT the att/t-mobile. Those specifically only work with those carriers to my knowledge.
The international model is the only one that accepts a SIM card from other carriers. If you use a SIM card, then get international.
Hey all,
Just unlocked my i927R (which I got from NewEgg -- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875176361) and thought I'd post my findings, since most places are a lot more expensive for unlocking. I'd seen some places want $40. Rogers wanted $85 (I'm in the US, so I had to create an account with them for prepaid for $60, then pay $25 after... but they needed a Canadian Postal Code... which was dumb, since I live about as far away from Canada as you can in the States)
I used http://cell-unlock-now.com/ and it was $8.49, which was the cheapest I found. Gave them my IMEI number and they sent me an unlock code in an hour. I plugged in a new SIM card, was prompted to unlock, and entered the number -- and it worked without a problem. Phone unlocked and is working great on StraightTalk using an AT&T compatible SIM.
Anyone on the fence about swapping to this phone -- it's totally worth it. Came from the Samsung Epic 4G and it has had a good life -- but it's time to get something a bit faster and better.

As far as I know, you cannot unlock for a continent. Not even the southern one.

Bummer on the $60. $25 is their standard charge for a SIM.

Hawaii?
- hold on, don't you guys have other islands even further out? Phillipines?
- foreign bases, embassies?
(-:
Don't understand why you needed to register / a sim card (unless you wanted one) - wouldn't the unlock code have just worked with the fureign SIM and the unlock code?
I know there are companies that will receive ordered goods that must have a U.S. address destination. Are there no equivalents in Canada?
Naw, I didn't have to pay any of that, is what I'm saying. I just used another service that was infinitely cheaper -- and wanted to let everyone know (or anyone know) who went down a similar path to mine. The site I linked has inexpensive prices for unlock codes that actually work. Otherwise, yeah, Rogers was unreasonable and stupid, but I imagine they're trying to protect people from using a phone outside of their network... but there is no way I'd ever be able to be their customer.
And you're right -- it's not unlocking for a continent, hah! Sorry, been trying to help the Droid 4 folks get organized -- the D4 has a hard-wired (somewhere) stop to not accept US SIMs (even when unlocked), but works great overseas on their GSM networks. So, we're trying to figure out a way to bypass that -- not sure if it's in radio firmware (probably is) or in the ROM (probably not -- nobody has seen anything to cause us to believe it is in the ROM/kernel).
Hi!!
If there are someone interested in it, I unlocked my glide with www* .cellunlocker. *net (without spaces and asterisks) it was about 8 euros (I live in Spain and my phone was bought in usa. I have Simyo and I was in Greek, and Italy last week with it and there was no problem, so I recommend cellunlocker ).
I hope someone find this information useful.

Ah! Thanks for that. It wasn't clear that you were saying that's what you avoided paying by using the service. Good to know!
go to the android market and download galxsim. i used it to unlock my captivate glide I927R to all Networks without any unluck codes.
I am thinking to purchase an SIII in few days but i am confuse about which model of SIII would work for Fido. fido has started their LTE network as well so this is my biggest concern.
Shall i go for SGH-I747M or T999 or some other model ? Does anyone have any idea ?

I have the SGH-I747M which was locked to Rogers/Fido then I unlocked it and used it with Telus with LTE. T999 is the Wind/Mobilicity version which works on their bands. So a SGH-I747M is the one you want.
If you buy an unlocked phone, they are all going to work with fido.

I bought mine of kijiji for $400 brand new sealed in the box and I'm certain that Rogers phones would work with Fido SIM since they are both on the same network. If you see ads up in kijiji for Rogers GS3s, they always say Rogers/Fido. (Also when you buy an unlock code for a Rogers phone is says unlock for Rogers/Fido phone (http://www.cellunlock.net/Unlock_Rogers_Fido_phones_p/rogersfidoimei.htm).
Hope this helped! :good:

I am tyring to find a nice deal on kijiji as well and it seems like no one is selling a *white* SIII but the dealers and dealers aren't gona come down to anything less than $550 ... lets see if i could find something like yours otherwise $550 it is ..
Looks like you have your answer. If you were to purchase any of them unlocked they would work, however the T-Mobile/Wind/Mobilicty variants don't have LTE. So you would be sitting on HSPA+ all the time.
Can I buy the nexus 7 LTE version from google play and use it abroad? Has anyone done this? Would appreciate any information on countries one could use the nexus.
It'll work fine a road, but you probably won't have LTE. You'll have to make do with HSPA+.

He may get it depending on which country he's in. The NA version of the N7 LTE supports LTE bands 1/2/3/4/5/13/17.
1 - Macedonia
3 - Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France (Bouyges), Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Span, Switzerland, UK
2, 4, 5, 13 and 17 aren't used in Europe.
Unfortunately, the main bands are 7 and 20. So it's possible you'll get LTE but even in those countries, some are 7 with some 3 (France for example) so you might find 3 support spotty.
Annoyingly, Canada is 4 and 7. So we have a similar problem with the NA N7 LTE. It's ok right now - but there's a growing move to 7 which will make this device a problem in a few years.
Thanks for the information guys, those are very helpful details. Am guessing the nexus 7 available from google play unlocked? The price of the unlocked version and the carrier version is the same and that got me thinking if there was a catch.
Could you use the nexus 7 with a SIM to make calls?

They're all unlocked. They just include a carrier SIM for added convenience. There's no such thing as an N7 LTE that's locked to a carrier.

I actually just bought the unlocked N7 for the same reason to travel aboard, and i didnt want carrier locks while there and having to mess to much with unlocking to insert different sims. But, i just got a Tmobile SIM, they have a plan called Simple Choice plan. They are giving free 2G of data on top of the plan you purchase from to over 100+ countries they have service. I pay $50/month for 6.5G of data for US service. I think they have a plan as low as $30/month for 2.5G US Service. And when i travel next year, to a country listed, i will get 2GIG a month, which is totally cool when im only there for two weeks anyway.
And if the country is not listed, then i just buy a local sim for data and never have to worry because the device is unlocked.

So you get 2 GB ON TOP of the 6.5GB?! That's awesome.
How about the minutes, though? If someone casks you at your US numbers and you answered, how much is the per minute cost?

I thought i read somewhere thats calls were .20 per minute. I dont have phone capabilities. So i dont care. I talked with a rep, its unlimited text and data on 2G network for 100+ countries. You can buy 4g/lte data at $5 for 500MB and $10 1GIG for 7 days. The 200MB is for US service not overseas. i hope that clears up the confusion.
