I have just installed Evils Custom Barebone rom v5 on the dev bord for desire, its a rom build that has no sense, just helixlauncher2. Now before i installed this i had the stock rom running and that always kicked my network preference to G and if i set it to HSDPA only, i would get scratchy 3G/H... Since installing the bareback rom, which has no sense running at all, i am on 3g or h constantly, and when i load a web page it always kicks into H.
I must also add that after i rooted i also updated my radio (baseband) to the new one released, the asia update
This could mean that sense applications or sense itself is forcing our phones to 2G networks as preference, I know this idea is out of the box but its looking that way, especially in my case.

very good news! although it's most likely the radio update that has fixed the problem! (i had the issue with the HD2 and it was discovered that it was not the fault of the Sense services that the connection would drop)
please keep us updated as it can take a while for the connection to drop, it can stay stable for hours and then drop like crazy.
thanks for posting but do keep us updated!
thanks!
Its definatly not the radio update mate as i still had the problem straight after rooting and updating to the new radio..... The problem only was solved when i installed the custom barebone rom, i now have HSDPA on tap, instead of blank spells when i had wcdma only on previous to the custom rom.
I just added that if people want to replicate what i did, then they have the full picture
Plus constant 3 bars of 3g reception

strange
well please do some further testing and report back! download a 50mb file while surfing the net and see if it drops
if it doesn't then there is a fault with Sense which HTC must fix.
ok gonna test now, also just made a phone call which was liquid! pure liquid!! No breaks or anything... I think we may be on to something here guys! something thats pretty big!
This rom is avoid of any sense, sense looking like what is killing our connections;(
JD
Started to download 114mb nvidia graphics driver, whilst on 3 bars it was downloading very fast, then it dropped to two bars, and it hung, after downloading 2mb, then it popped back up to three bars, downloaded another 2mb and then dropped back down again to two bars. When surfing it always stays three bars. It looks like tmobile have put a cap on how much we can download in bursts.
Im still noticing 95 percent surfing on hsdpa improvment.
JD
also i think removing sense and all of its RAM burden helps the phone to make better and faster decision's. This could be whats happening here
Also reporting a better WIFI signal strength, wad usually one bar from my room, now is now a constant 2 bars on signal icon
Stock T-Mobile ROM, never had any issues?
This seems to happen with every new HTC release. Could it just be poor network performance?
Why do I never have issues? Live around Nottingham but work all over the UK, no problems with HSPA.
Ok, i unchecked under location, determine location by wifi towers.... Went to download that 114mb file again,
Worked 100 percent.
downloaded in just under 10 mins no hang))
so its solved!!

Paul some people are having intermittant G/3G/HSDPA
My problem was solved by not having Sense And with the CM Mod being uploaded as we speak i will see if its to draw with that as well.
But im definatly getting faster, always H speeds now, and the only thing i changed was the rom

i must be lucky i dont seem to have the issue
So if some people have it and others don't how can it be device and not network related?
It's OS and Network related.
There's an open bug on the android development site about it. I don't know all the ins and outs but the OS seems to have some difficulty re-acquiring dropped signals. So if your network has dodgy 3G coverage you're more likely to experience this.
I'm sure it's far more complicated than my explanation though and involves all kinds of fascinating intricacies regarding the type of 3G coverage and automatic switching between the different connections yadda yadda...
Yeah its pretty deep, all i know is it has been fantastic since Sense has been off my phone

Just to clarify here, switching rom and radio on your phone did not solve the issue as there was still a dropout, but what has fixed it is disabling the location, what do you mean location by wifi towers?
I'm getting really frustrated now. This problem is a real nuisance for me, as I use my Desire a lot solely for this purpose.
In my room, the wifi signal has always been pretty weak, generally only getting 1/2 bars. However, the connection is stable and still about 6mbps. This is never usually a problem for my Desire, it picks up the connection and everything works great. Stock Froyo, Sense Froyo, Sense Gingerbread, Sense V2 Gingerbread, Miui Froyo and Miui Gingerbread all operate flawlessly.
However, I now have a bit of a problem. It seems most Gingerbread AOSP ROM's cause the wifi to play up. I have tried GingerVillain, Oxygen, Redux and finally now my favourite CM7. The wifi constantly drops out and loses connection, and then takes a good 30+ seconds to reconnect. The dropouts can be as frequent as every few minutes, and generally it never lasts 4+ minutes in iplayer without losing connection. If I am just casually browsing, I don't notice. But when I am watching something on youtube or iplayer, the constant dropouts make the experience so horrible it isn't worth the effort.
What's more, there is some odd bug with the iplayer app where once a dropout happens, the audio and video goes out of sync and so on etc. All in all, it makes streaming video unusable, and this was a main reason for me buying a smartphone.
I really don't know what the problem is, but I really would appreciate some help. I would say it was a gingerbread problem, but as stated above, there are many gingerbread roms which don't cause me the same issue. Similarly, I've used an array of different radio's and kernals on each ROM. They make no difference. It depends purely on which ROM I am using. I've tried resetting the bt home hub, restoring it to factory, changing security type, moving it's position and so on. I'm pretty sure it's a ROM / Phone issue though as it works fine with other ROMS. Phone wise, I've set wifi policy to never and set a static IP address. It makes no difference. I still get wifi dropouts!
For reference sake, I'm using the latest stock Radio - 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27 and Kernal 2.6.37.4-cyanogenmod-82245..... and obviously CM7 7.0.2.
Please someone help? I'm actually considering upgrading just to solve this. It is absolutely doing my nut in, and I am totally out of ideas or solutions.
Thanks.
Maby a weird thing but on what channel is your wifi broadcasting ?
I had almost the same problem when my wifi was on channel 12. Now on channel 3 there is no more problem.
Not that any other wifi's broadcasting here. It is just that I've got the feeling that android has a problem with "high" channels.

It was on 10 and 11.
I'll switch to 3 and give it a try. Also, I'm going to try flashing the Gingerbread Sense Drivers and RIL.
Hi,
I've also had a similar problem for quite a while now (1-2 weeks). I used my wireless connection on my standard out of factory ROM on my home wifi network, my families wifi networks and my work wifi networks without _any_ problems.
When this problem started acting up I'd start my wifi connection, it would work for like a minute or so (not dependant on the amount of data transmitted or something, idle would last as long as while downloading), and then lose connection.
The strange thing is that it indicates it is fully connected at full strength but can not establish _any_ internet connection whatsoever.
My 3G connection to my network (I live in the Netherlands) works nicely, but it isn't as fast as wifi, so this limits me quite a bit (especially at work, indoors).
I've just tried to upgrade to CM7, but doesn't give any better results. I haven't tried upgrading my RADIO, but I don't really want to if I don't have to.
Any clues what I could do to fix this?
I'm experiencing similar problems.I changed from channel 11 to 4, but it really hasn't helped. I have also set up a portable wifi (netcomm). It runs on channel 3. The network sim is quite slow but the signal strength is much steadier. My faster speedstream completely drops out. I understand this "pulsing" of signal is normal, but mine is beyond the pale.
My acer netbook doesn't demonstrate any dropout issues.
Im running an A501 3.0.1. No upgrade yet for me here in australia. But, I'm wondering if this is just poor hardware.
could try a different Radio.. the latest stock one from the new official gingerbread is in my signature..
MD5: 432ED609D76AE57BA493DA875CDC9D2D
further to my difficulty with wifi drop outs, I'm pleased to say that it appears that my problems probably are related to my home wifi, a Speedstream.
I'm currently spending a week on a houseboat and I've been using a netcomm myzone wifi fitted with a sim card from a prepaid Dodo broadband usb.
I've not had any problem with it. Granted, I've had it close by, but it still seems to work fine when I'm at the other end of the houseboat.
So my acer A501 seems to be behaving itself here. Perhaps, something is causing the speedstream to vary it's signal strength so drastically.
@OP - I posted a thread a few weeks ago about having exactly the same problems as you with AOSP ROM's and weak wifi signals. Once I went to a Sense ROM the wifi signal was great. I prefer the AOSP ROM's so I upgraded my Radio to the latest version but it didn't help at all, I didn't see any change when using wi-fi analyser.
I'm currently using CM7 ROM and just putting up with the weak signal. I'm glad it's not just me though.
Hi all.
Been installing quite a few roms in the last year and untimately sticked to UHD 3.0.2 with lupus kernel.
This happend once before, internet suddenly stopped working and the simptoms where having a 3g simbol showing up to then dissappear for minutes.......no way of having any internet connection whatsoever, tried installing different kernel and roms but probably it's something deep into the firmware.......it fixed by itself after a week or more '
Now it happend again, internet is down despite i reinstalled roms and kernel and even went back on .13 stock rom and kernel.....nothing internet is simply down and no 3g simbol coming up from time to time this time....only phone signal and that's it.
Settings are ok, checked 100s of times............i just left the phone charging and all of a sudden it became like this.
I'm back on stock as i said and still nothing.........this pisses me off like few other things on earth. Is there something i can attempt manually to recover any form of internet connection. I need it for work and messaging a lot!
Please help me out guys, or i'll just have to dump this phone in the bin despite the fact that i'm quite fond of it.
Thanks
Default [Q] Xperia arc S internet dead....tried everything, please help
Looks like you tried quite a lot of things but you did not say you tried another baseband? Worth a try? Just make a note of the baseband your on so you can return to it....
I bought a used Galaxy Note 2 N7100 while visiting Taiwan and brought it back to Germany with me.
I noticed while in Taiwan that the network would sometimes drop and quickly come back again. I attributed this to the network coverage i had there. Back in Germany i realised that this happens quite frequently. I installed a Signal Monitor app to monitor my signal losses.
The network/signal loss occurs around every 20 minutes where the circle with the line would appear for 10-20 seconds and then the signal would come back. Seldomly the circle with the line would stay and I would need to reboot the phone to get the signal back.
I have tried flashing many different roms including the Vodafone Branded rom (I am on the Vodafone Network), the new leaked 4.3 rom, the newest stable stock rom, sotmax rom with various modems. The Problem stayed and I kept getting frequent signal losses.
The last step I tried was Stock Rom 4.1.2, RedPill Rev1.47 and the Ariza Patch. My IMEI and Serial Number are set correctly but the signal
loss still occurs.
I have searched weeks on this forum and tried many configs and I have no more ideas on how to fix this.
If anyone has ever experienced anything like this and fixed it, I would really appreciate some help.
Thank you for your time reading this.

Unfortunately the problem is still there but does not happen periodically anymore. So sometimes it would be ok for almost an hour before loosing
connection. What I am starting to think that there is come type of internal buffer and if that fills with Data then the phone looses connection.
Anyone has any advice here?
Hello all
I have an I9195 LTE, the download speed on 3G has been very slow for the last month or so. I don't get 4g so I cannot test it out to see if that is ok or not. The upload speed is seemingly a bit better but still slower than normal. I have tried two different networks, UK based so GiffGaff and EE (T-Mobile) and the problems is identical on both operators.
A while ago I updated to a stock rom which advised updating the Modem at the same time as the original was causing low signal levels. I did this but have now restored the phone to a newer rom and updated to Modem-I9195XXUCNH5. Currently I have CM11 installed (although it makes NO different whether it is a stock, or a custom rom - the speed problem is identical on both).
A video is attached to demonstrate the problem. The problem occurs on two independent speed checking services (the second one was an awful awful app, but done to confirm it wasn't just speedtest.net playing up). Downloads from the play store are slow (max of about 150kb/s) and this is shown to speed up significantly when connecting to my wi-fi (100mbit) showing it isn't an overall problem with the phone hardware.
My theory is something is physically broken in the phone as I have done everything I can to test using different iterations of software, baseband, custom roms etc and even restored the phone back to the original stock rom it had when I purchased it (the speeds were fine then).
Can anyone shed any light on this?
