[Q] Wifi Dropout Problem Persists: Someone, Please Help! - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm getting really frustrated now. This problem is a real nuisance for me, as I use my Desire a lot solely for this purpose.
In my room, the wifi signal has always been pretty weak, generally only getting 1/2 bars. However, the connection is stable and still about 6mbps. This is never usually a problem for my Desire, it picks up the connection and everything works great. Stock Froyo, Sense Froyo, Sense Gingerbread, Sense V2 Gingerbread, Miui Froyo and Miui Gingerbread all operate flawlessly.
However, I now have a bit of a problem. It seems most Gingerbread AOSP ROM's cause the wifi to play up. I have tried GingerVillain, Oxygen, Redux and finally now my favourite CM7. The wifi constantly drops out and loses connection, and then takes a good 30+ seconds to reconnect. The dropouts can be as frequent as every few minutes, and generally it never lasts 4+ minutes in iplayer without losing connection. If I am just casually browsing, I don't notice. But when I am watching something on youtube or iplayer, the constant dropouts make the experience so horrible it isn't worth the effort.
What's more, there is some odd bug with the iplayer app where once a dropout happens, the audio and video goes out of sync and so on etc. All in all, it makes streaming video unusable, and this was a main reason for me buying a smartphone.
I really don't know what the problem is, but I really would appreciate some help. I would say it was a gingerbread problem, but as stated above, there are many gingerbread roms which don't cause me the same issue. Similarly, I've used an array of different radio's and kernals on each ROM. They make no difference. It depends purely on which ROM I am using. I've tried resetting the bt home hub, restoring it to factory, changing security type, moving it's position and so on. I'm pretty sure it's a ROM / Phone issue though as it works fine with other ROMS. Phone wise, I've set wifi policy to never and set a static IP address. It makes no difference. I still get wifi dropouts!
For reference sake, I'm using the latest stock Radio - 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27 and Kernal 2.6.37.4-cyanogenmod-82245..... and obviously CM7 7.0.2.
Please someone help? I'm actually considering upgrading just to solve this. It is absolutely doing my nut in, and I am totally out of ideas or solutions.
Thanks.

Maby a weird thing but on what channel is your wifi broadcasting ?
I had almost the same problem when my wifi was on channel 12. Now on channel 3 there is no more problem.
Not that any other wifi's broadcasting here. It is just that I've got the feeling that android has a problem with "high" channels.

It was on 10 and 11.
I'll switch to 3 and give it a try. Also, I'm going to try flashing the Gingerbread Sense Drivers and RIL.

Hi,
I've also had a similar problem for quite a while now (1-2 weeks). I used my wireless connection on my standard out of factory ROM on my home wifi network, my families wifi networks and my work wifi networks without _any_ problems.
When this problem started acting up I'd start my wifi connection, it would work for like a minute or so (not dependant on the amount of data transmitted or something, idle would last as long as while downloading), and then lose connection.
The strange thing is that it indicates it is fully connected at full strength but can not establish _any_ internet connection whatsoever.
My 3G connection to my network (I live in the Netherlands) works nicely, but it isn't as fast as wifi, so this limits me quite a bit (especially at work, indoors).
I've just tried to upgrade to CM7, but doesn't give any better results. I haven't tried upgrading my RADIO, but I don't really want to if I don't have to.
Any clues what I could do to fix this?

I'm experiencing similar problems.I changed from channel 11 to 4, but it really hasn't helped. I have also set up a portable wifi (netcomm). It runs on channel 3. The network sim is quite slow but the signal strength is much steadier. My faster speedstream completely drops out. I understand this "pulsing" of signal is normal, but mine is beyond the pale.
My acer netbook doesn't demonstrate any dropout issues.
Im running an A501 3.0.1. No upgrade yet for me here in australia. But, I'm wondering if this is just poor hardware.

could try a different Radio.. the latest stock one from the new official gingerbread is in my signature..
MD5: 432ED609D76AE57BA493DA875CDC9D2D

further to my difficulty with wifi drop outs, I'm pleased to say that it appears that my problems probably are related to my home wifi, a Speedstream.
I'm currently spending a week on a houseboat and I've been using a netcomm myzone wifi fitted with a sim card from a prepaid Dodo broadband usb.
I've not had any problem with it. Granted, I've had it close by, but it still seems to work fine when I'm at the other end of the houseboat.
So my acer A501 seems to be behaving itself here. Perhaps, something is causing the speedstream to vary it's signal strength so drastically.

@OP - I posted a thread a few weeks ago about having exactly the same problems as you with AOSP ROM's and weak wifi signals. Once I went to a Sense ROM the wifi signal was great. I prefer the AOSP ROM's so I upgraded my Radio to the latest version but it didn't help at all, I didn't see any change when using wi-fi analyser.
I'm currently using CM7 ROM and just putting up with the weak signal. I'm glad it's not just me though.

Ginger Villain and WiFi

I have been on Ginger Villain 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4 and i have had this problem.
When the wifi is connected, i would say once every five minutes it disconects and re-connects again. Even though this process takes a few seconds, it is very annoying when im on skype as it terminates the call.
I have set the wifi sleep policy to never. I have never had this problem on stock, modaco, and Robo HD roms.
One thing to note, i originally thought this was a gingerbread 2.3 problem. Too see if was true, i flashed the new modaco 2.3 rom and it was fine. I was using skype and other apps for over an hour and it did not disconnect.
So why is this happening in ginger villain?
One thing to note.
I live in a flat and therefore the wifi signal has always been quite low BUT it has always connected without any problems.
Could it be that GV 2.3 decreases wifi signal strength?
I have flashed the latest radio and ril which seems to have fixed it.
But now I am getting graphical issues as the screen is flashing and acting very weird on certain apps.
Anyone got any ideas?
I'm currently on 1.3 GV and have the same issue with the Wifi, about to try a different Kernel to see if it helps.
I've also noticed a decreased signal, I can be standing right next to my router and not receiving absolute full signal... Think it may be a ROM issue?
You have to remember these ROMs ain't perfect and each one seems to have it's flaws, but the dev's are getting there!
What kernel will you try?
Strange. I have no problem with wi-fi. Signal as well as on the stock rom. In the router logs no disconnects.
Kernel: 1.6 HAVS 1113Mhz + BFS from Villain setup
Radio: 32.44.00.32H_5.09.05.30_2
It is very strange, I have tried different radio's but still can't fix it.
Under normal internet use, it is quite difficult to tell that the connection has dis connected and reconnected as it only takes a few.seconds.
When using Skype or Google talk, you can tell and its very annoying.

Did you manage to fix this with a different kernel?
I am so glad I have finally found someone with the same issue as me! I have a relatively weak wifi signal (distance) from my hub to my room where I use my desire. On apps like youtube or bbc iplayer, it would suddenly turn off wifi and then reconnect all of a sudden. It meant watching anything with these apps is a nightmare. And I have always had it set to wifi sleep - never. I have never had this problem with any other ROM and I have tried loads. I originally put it down to my already tempermental internet, but I have now ruled this out. This is specifically a GV ROM issue.
GV 1.0 - 1.4 all had the same issue. Then, yesterday much to my surprise I saw in the 1.5 change log that one of the changes was that 1.5 "should fix the wifi sleep bug".
Last night, I tried iPlayer as usual, but I believe the problem still persists. I now don't know what to do. I will try resetting the wifi hub to defaults and so on, but I really don't think it will make a difference. I could try flashing a new kernal, but again I don't see how it would make a difference. Then I thought maybe a new radio, but I don't see the need. I'm using the latest official desire radio, and it works flawlessly on everything else.
So, I'm out of ideas, and my patience is slowly dying. I love the ROM for all its worth. It works perfectly, except for this. But for me, stable wifi is a deal breaker. I might need to try something else like amethyst.
Yes, sounds exactly like my problem. There Is a problem with Ginger villain as it works fine on other Roms.
I have tried so many different kernel's, radios and ril's but to no luck.
The only last solution I can think of other than to change rom is to try the modaco kernel. But the problem with that is, its not available seperately so we need someone to extract it from the rom.
I've got a strange issue with my HTC Desire and GV 2.5 :
at home, it doesn't even detect my Wifi (others devices do, of course), while at work it works perfectly.
The security is the same (WPA2/AES) between work and home, so I don't see any explanation... do you think it can be caused by the channel used ?

[Q] wifi "avoided poor internet connection", screeoff kills connection

im trying for a week now to get around an issue that is costing me my nerves and renders my phone useless, especially on travel without roaming and data-plan. after screenoff my nexus kills the wifi connection, after some time though, 30 minutes, 1 hour, it seems to change. my company uses skype as the primary means to communitate and i'm just cut off, won't receive important mails, messages, whatever.
when i switch my phone back on wifi starts up again, if im quick enough the settings reveal "avoided poor internet connection" in the hotspots status. so basically it looses the signal for a moment and is not able to connect back on its own. i read 4.0.1 had a setting to circumvent that but since 4.0.2 it's gone. of course keep-alive-during-sleep is checked to "always" in the settings and i tried just about anything, changing basebands, factory resets, cache wipe, etc. nothing helped. the weirdest thing i that the battery stats to not reflect it, the blue wifi line is uninterrupted all the way.
i searched and found dozens of people complaining about this but no solution anywhere. they switched phones and had the same problems still. from little fragments i collected it seems that samsung devices had this issue before, cm7 supposedly fixed a hardware driver that had issues with certain wifi devices on certain frequencies.
im on AOKP b27 now (powersaver on or off with setting to untouched or "leave on" made no difference), leankernel, xxkl1 baseband. today i went back to stock 4.0.2 to see if that does something. still, has anyone here similar problems and maybe even solutions? what about the cyanogens "nexus one sleep fix" i read about, anyone can provide links or informations?
Did you try settings - wifi - menu - advanced - keep wifi on during sleep - always
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Try changing that setting. I know 2.x defaulted to turn wifi off during sleep but I thought they changed that in ICS. Either way that sounds like the problem.
its not that setting, it's the first thing i checked. it's set to "always" and it should never kill wifi in theory. from what i have read by now it seems more of a wider problem, a software or hardware related issue affecting all nexus devices. most people don't know about it since it only fails for certain routers having certain settings (which other phones digest without problems though). i also never knew it until i had to stay one month in a place with a wifi-hotspot my phone doesn't like. my gf's s2 has no problems at all, neither have our laptops.
here on xda people have switched their devices because of that problem, got new ones and the problem persisted. i have installed roms, kernels, stock-images, basebands, nothing helped and i am sure the problem won't go away if i exchange the device. i knew i'd probably not gain much by asking again, threads like this can be found here, on rootzwiki, google, etc., but i was hoping to gather a little more knowledge. to read about cm7's patch for a similar issue on the nexus one gave me hope that something must be out there ...
btw, stock ICS seems to have the best reception by now, it stays connected for hours. but once it looses it, it won't re-connect aswell. my experiences are worse with AOKP. and it sucks because i love that rom so much. i guess when i'm home again it wont bother me since my own wifi is okay - but man, here, in another country it really hits me.
i had the same problem, seems like the connection would drop when the wifi signal is weak regardless of what settings you choose. i saw this problem on 4.01 and 4.02 stock, and apex rom. i had to switch to a router that could broadcast a stronger signal. i would get about 80-90 dbm with the old router and the new gone give 60-70 dbm. it seemed to have fixed the problem, i havent seen my gnex drop the wifi since i got the new router a few weeks ago.
Ive heard some people have a bug with wifi sleep policy setting not working. But mine seems to actually work. Set to "never" is the best choice and after hours of screen off my wifi is still connected.
Maybe try that setting a few times to kill the bug.
“never"should actually kill wifi immediately after screen off I think. If it doesn't that would be just another bug. I read somewhere that for some people setting it to never resolved the issue but i tried pretty much every setting by now, nothing worked out though. I became so desperate I installed wifi monitor apps that reset wifi after they figure it got dropped, but not even these patches could revive it in some occasions. The only thing that works for sure is switching on the screen every now and then.
It's a wifi sleep policy. So never = never sleep.
Weird, mine says "keep wifi alive during sleep": always, when plugged in, never. our I miss something and there's another setting I haven't tried yet.
this may fix ur problem... for rooted phone

How do you get that? It says "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep", which implies "never" would always keep the Wi-Fi off during sleep.

[Q] No internet through WiFi after few minutes, still connected

Hi guys,
I've searched the whole forum but I couldn't find any other thread about my problem.
When I connect my HOX to WiIF (Sitecom WL-370 - 300N Gigabit Dualband Router) everything works fine at first, but after a few minutes (5, or sometimes 15 minutes) I've got no Internet anymore but I'm still connected. Also WiFI Analyzer still detects the network. I've this problem both on 2.4 GHz as on 5 GHz. I've also tried switching channels.
The strange thing is, I can still receive a WhatsApp message but I can't send any, also I can't browse on the Internet or things like that.
After turning my WiFi off and on it works fine again for the few minutes..
Best Wi-Fi performance is turned on and the other devices at home haven't got this problem.
Anyone having the same problem or knows a solution?
I've got the same problem and it seems to be totally random. What i noticed is that my Google Play Store always stops working (no connection) shortly after i turned on the phone (~10 minutes). Switching Wifi off and on again doesn't seem to change it, i need to restart my HOX to get it working again while other apps connect just fine after turning Wifi off and on again.
Edit: Stock Vodafone ROM (1.28.161.9)
I have the exact same issue and i went through every setting in my router trying to fix this.
I would turn on my WIFI, connect to my home network, and start downloading. After a few minutes it'll either stop (the dl percentage not change) and then if i reload the market/youtube/browser or any app that users the net, it'll say no connection.
The weird thing about this is that it LOOKS like i am connected to wifi (in the notification bar).
This may be a separate issue, but i tried to turn it off and then on again to get around the issue. This time around i would try to connect to my home wifi and it'll just say 'Saved' and then the network would go out of range.
I am running Leedroids rom.
I might have found a solution:
Under Settings -> Wifi -> Menu -> Extended there is an option for Wifi Power Saving. After unchecking it all my connectivity problems are gone.
May be worth trying a static IP configuration, if you know enough about ip4 to do it. I've seen problems with android Wi-Fi since version 2.2 - if your router issues an indefinite dhcp lease, it can show exactly the symptoms you describe. Only a possibility but worth a try.

I have the exact same issue - the wireless shows connected yet you cannot browse the Internet etc. I have also tried every setting on the Wireless AP without any success. Even tried static IP and that does not fix it either. Whilst other devices in the house are ok...
The weirdest thing is though it does not happen everywhere i.e. at other places like work (where at least the same type of AP is in use) or at my brothers' house (where he has a Linksys). This is pretty much the only thing that bugs me with the HTC - the only workaround I have found is to make sure that WiFi is kept on only at times when plugged in - this doesn't actually fix the issue but it does mean that the phone will disconnect the WiFi and get a new connection next time it wakes up - this way I find I get the problem much less than when I have it set to Always.

Yeah, exactly, I've got the same problem. At school I've got no problems with the WiFi. I already send a message to HTC and I'm waiting on there answer.
I have kinda the same issue.
Using a HOX and at work I'm connected to Wifi and I can browse. At my house I can connect to the wifi, my IP is right that I'm getting from DHCP (I even tried putting in a static IP) but I can't browse
I also have a HTC Sensation, same setup and it works. The sensation can browse at work and at my house.
Why would this be?
Tried all sorts of solutions, but the only one that works is disabling the N-band and only leave B and G. This means that your laptop won't connect with the faster N, but at least the HOX works (what's more important )
Well I tried broadcasting a separate SSID on the b/g interface only for the exclusive use for the hox but that hasn't made any difference...my workaround is to have tunein radio in the background streaming whilst surfing...if I get bored of that solution my next workaround will be to trade the hox for an s3 as much as I despise TW...

I tried all the bands "B, G, N" and nothing works. So tired of this crap. Think I might just get a S3

I was thinking to do the same but there is no chance in hell of me doing that after I compared my HOX with a display model at the phone shop. Pentile screen vs LCD on the HOX? HOX = Sharper and better whites - the white on the S3 is bluish and so obvious. Another thing also I noticed is that the aggressive auto brightness on the S3 is too much - you won't tolerate it and you will likely be forced to manually adjust all the time. That plus reading that the S3 goes through the battery like no mans business when on standby unless you turn off all the features and put it in power save mode (might as well buy a Nokia then) at least the HOX uses the Ninja core and actually does save your battery in standby mode.
Anyway - the reason I replied is that I found a workaround (note, workaround does not mean a fix) - I put in a wifi extender in an area where I tend to spent most of my time with the HOX - this has not fixed the problem per se but rather seems to have elevated it somewhat. Basically now if the HOX drops from the main offending AP it automatically gets hooked up on to the extender and carries on working! I say this because (and I saw this only twice so far) I realised that when the phones Internet connection stops and you load a new page it timed out and get page cannot be found but when I hit refresh it works again you do notice a 3-4 second lag (this never happened before the extender came into play). Not sure if anyone else has tried this but I got a Linksys/Cisco extender for £69 and so far at least it has given me a workaround. Of course your mileage may vary...so don't splash out on an extender and come and blame me if it doesn't work for anyone here...
I am also having this issue with my HOX has anyone found a fix for this?
i have tried everything listed and nothing works.
its weird though because i have NO issues on my home network, but my network in my apartment here and at work network i get this issue
!!
bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbuuuuuummp any fixes??? this sucks !!!!
What versions of android you guys have? Stock, sense, vanilla android, ics, jelly bean? Because I didn't encounter this problem when running stock or ics custom roms. After I updated hboot to 1.31 and tried different jelly bean sense roms it appeared. I also tried some stock android roms (ice cold jelly and liquid smooth) and wifi seemed to work fine. So is this sense problem only?

[Q] losing wifi connectivity- full bars but all gray

so, I've read around here on the XDA forum about problems with wifi connectivity where we have full bars for wifi but they are gray and you are not getting out. many describe my situation but I've not seen any real solutions...
my problem is that I can connect to my wifi router without issue but then a random amount of time later, sometimes fairly quickly and sometimes it's hours later, I will pick up the phone and see full bars but they are gray and I'm not getting out. I can try opening a terminal window and pinging the gateway/dns servers and can't even reach the gateway.
things I have tried:
- turned off MAC filtering on the wifi AP
- switched from a 5 GHZ wifi on the AP to 2.4 GHZ net on the AP and vice versa
- manually set the phone wifi preference to one or the other (5 or 2.4)
- battery pull on the phone
- delete network settings for my AP and reconfigure
I have not yet tried a static IP config on the phone but I can easily try that... {edited to add} well, I tried static config and that didn't help at all...
one other tidbit of info, I have a work Blackberry with wifi and it never loses wifi connectivity so this is a problem unique to my Nexus.
I'm running Cyanogen 10.0.0-toro and no, I haven't tried a full wipe and reload yet.
thoughts or suggestions?
I'm not trying to threadjack here, but I just wanted to share my experiences.
I've been have the exact same thing happen to my phone (Nexus maguro). I've tried every JB rom I could find, several different kernels and my wifi eventually always goes grey on me. All network activities stop. I'm back on stock everything right now and it still happens.
It happens on my home wifi as well as work wifi.
I'm about to puttstock ICS on my phone and try that out for a couple days.
Anyway, good luck with your problems, i'm going to follow this thread in hopes you'll get a solution that may help me.
If I do figure anything out i'll post back.

seems that this is a topic that has been posted on a bit over time with no real single culprit or fix. I'll post back if I figure anything out... I know in the Cyanogen thread, I saw info that stated that the MAC address of the phone was changing and I'm going to try and determine if that is happening to mine.
I have the same issue. Sometimes even when i pick up the phone, if i look fast enough i see that the Wi-Fi bars weren't even there! Thats only 1 out of 5 times though. The other time its usually just grey bars. Sometimes it actually will click back and they'll flash to blue and grey 2-3 times and then go solid blue. Then sometimes like you, they'll stay grey. I've tried everything too...reverting to stock, Different kernels, ROMs, routers, static IP, 2.4 or 5ghz, full auto mode. The only fix that makes it a little more reliable, is using Wi-Fi PM Fast. But even that, is not reliable. I'd say its about 50% reliable then, for a huge sacrfice in battery life. For me i've noticed this started to happen with 4.2. Before that i never had a problem. All other devices though no problem. My Nexus 7 is just fine. But the galaxy nexus, no matter what router or where i am, the Wi-Fi is totally unreliable. For me, it happens within 2 minutes that it will disconnect most times. Then 1 in 10 times it'll be fine for 10 hours.
In all honesty, i've given up. Just come to deal with it. Use mobile networks when i'm not needing to download. I can download files and stream music just fine too. If there is traffic going through, it never disconnects. But when its just sitting there without traffic, it disconnects, or, loses connection to google servers i should say.
well that's not good to hear...
I installed stock 4.0.4 a couple days ago and have not had my wifi go grey on me yet.

yeah, I love Cyanogen so not willing to go back to stock... waiting for them to finish 10.1 and I guess I'll see how it behaves then.
Hi all,
Just to say that I have the same problem. I have been upgraded from ICS to 4.2 and nothing had happened but I had to downgrade to 4.1.1 (AOKP Build 4) due to other issues and after that I started notice the WiFi problem.
At first I thought it was when the screen went off, but I has happened with screen on too. I have to turn WiFi off and the back on to connect properly again, very annoying.
As I said I started noticing this after I downgraded, but then again, I had used AOKP 4.1.1 before without this issue. I think that it is time to change my phone :/

I'm on Muzzy 4.2.2 and I'm currently having the same problem. It's not a new problem since I remember having it months ago (disabled my phone's WiFi because I kept missing emails and other notifications - grew tired of dealing with it). I thought it was my router, so I swapped it with a newer one recently, but it carried forward (old router was TRENDnet Draft N and the new one is ASUS RT-N66U).
I would like to know how to properly troubleshoot this problem.
I'm glad I didnt have to create a thread for this. I have been facing this problem quite a lot. I can confirm that WiFi works absolutely fine until 4.1.2, whether it is stock or CM10 (I havent tried the other ROMs yet). I have faced this problem only from 4.2. It still exists on 4.2.2. Happens on all the ROMs I have tried till now including CM10.1 nightly as well as the stock factory image.
When the phone is sleeping, it seems to lose WiFi connectivity and when woken up, the WiFi bars is grey though it is full. If I am very lucky, it will turn blue automatically. Most of the times, I have to switch WiFi off and back on for it to connect properly.
Anyone knows the root cause for this? In case this has been discussed in any other thread?

have you posted this information over in any of the threads where the developers are working such as Cyanogen in an effort to bring this issue to the forefront for more visibility?
I have had those wifi problems with every android version and rom I had on my GNex as far as I can remember.
Sometimes it will be able to reconnect but sometimes I have to disable and re-enable wifi to get it back.
I too thought that it might have been my crappy router as I have had multiple problems with it over the years (some Linksys router).
This is really annoying because it won't receive any e-mails until I randomly decide to have a look at my phone. :/

trust me, I understand your frustration... some days, I can go almost all day without loosing wifi data throughput and other days it won't last 10 minutes without going to gray bars.
unfortunately, no one is sharing any fixes which tells me that no one has a good handle on the problem.
Same issue for me on stock Android 4.2.2. Leave WiFi on overnight and when I wake up its connected to WiFi but gray bars...
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
The update to 4.2.2 drivers have fixed all WiFi issues for me. For the first time since 4.1 I can now use WiFi optimization now. And WiFi is fully reliable.

so, I've read around here on the XDA forum about problems with wifi connectivity where we have full bars for wifi but they are gray and you are not getting out. many describe my situation but I've not seen any real solutions...
my problem is that I can connect to my wifi router without issue but then a random amount of time later, sometimes fairly quickly and sometimes it's hours later, I will pick up the phone and see full bars but they are gray and I'm not getting out.
I'm running Cyanogen 10.0.0-toro and no, I haven't tried a full wipe and reload yet.
thoughts or suggestions?

same thing happened to me on toroplus sourcery 5.1, after trying everything i could think of and talking to one of the devs, i finally did a fresh download of rom and gapps. wiped cache, wiped dalvik, factory reset, wipe system, deleted android folder off of storage then installed the fresh download of rom and gapps and its been working great for me since. hope this helps.

Can you elaborate on this? I've flashed 5 different modems and still get this problem... it happens to my cell service bars, as well. Would love to know what the cause is.

i just know ever since moving to a 4.2.2 kernel that has the 4.2.2 drivers my wifi has been stable. I know there was a post in the anarkia thread with the ak kernel that had the drivers. but i believe most any 4.2.2 kernel would have them implemented. i do have the newest bootloader and radio too. but i know as soon add i got the 4.2.2 drivers all issues were resolved wifi wise. of course i think if you have a 4.2.2 kennel you'll have them.

I'm looking forward to that update - I've been watching the Cyanogen threads for when I think the 10.1 has matured enough to become my daily driver... good to know you've had positive results!
Temporary solution
me facing same issues , Solution would be to use an app called wifi fixer by zanish-g1 from the play store ...
it worked for me !! :good:

a5 2017 wifi problems

I am getting really bad wifi connections and the phone is very slow at browsing refusing to load pages fully. Running Speedtest by Okla says "network communication issues". I get this problem on wifi in public areas and at home. It does not seem consistent. I got so fed up I factory reset the phone. I connected to another wifi router at home and so far everything seems fine. All other devices work fine with public wifi and wifi router at home including Samsung J5 and S4. Any ideas?
Stock rom? Orginal?

original handset bought from John Lewis. 4G has no problems at all just wifi. I'm not sure what the "stock ROM?" question means?

I have sometimes wifi is reconnecting, but most of the time I have a good connection.
I'm having weak wifi reception with the A5. When placed side by side with S4 and S7, the A5 has the weakest wifi signals. Speedtest confirms this as well.
Yeah, definitley weaker reception, i compared to my Htc 820 and Sony m2 aqua and it was pretty weaker all of them are on stock roms.
Well, me too. Weak reception when just a littel away from the router. Randomly loses signal force, can't see any router, then, connect again... It seems to get worse when heavy using internet, like watching YouTube videos... But near the router, everything stays normal... My moto g 2014 never had the problem and I'm in stock rom too...
It strangely seems to be YouTube app who causes problems, because when I stop watching videos the signal force get actually more stable, even full in places it doesn't get full when watching YouTube...
But it still seems to suffer from some instability at its natural... When I tap play in youtube, the signal drops to almost zero...
I would like to know what is happening, because it isn't a cheap phone, and even moto g 2014 has got a better wifi
It also seems that demanding wifi in general causes signal to get weaker... I never saw something like that, signal strength doesn't get affected by use, only bandwidth...
Any other experience?
Similar issue with my A5
I recently bought an A5 2017 aswell and my phone also has HORRENDOUS wifi , not just that but for some reason it would randomly stop reconnecting and stop showing the wifi router or anything and the wifi connectivity doesnt turn on , and then if restart it but it would hang mid restart and then id have to hard reset it by holding the power and volume-down button , and this whole procedure happens like once or twice a day so ita really frustrating. Especially because this is a New phone btw, my wifi is perfe fly fine because i ha ve other technology and have previously used many huawei phones which have perfect connectivity and this was my first experience with Samsung, any help would be much appreciated thankyou !!
I am having the same issue as the person above. Pages will refuse to load until i turn off wifi or refresh the page. There are duplicate posts coming up on facebook. Like 4 or 5 posts repeated before new ones. Twitch constantly buffering. Tried on mine and parents wifi with same result. Both were always and still are fine on my note 4. I have 2 weeks to return it to o2 if its faulty or is it just a phone with bad wifi in general?
Edit: i think the facebook thing might be a facebook issue as its happening on my note 4 too but everything else is specific to my a5.
