When I rooted my galaxy note 2, I couldnt update it... does that mean I have to unroot it when there is android 4.2 update for my galaxy note 2? ??

Unroot, use triangle away, restore stock recovery if you switched to cwm and factory reset to change from modified to stock

If only haha. Once you unroot, the device still says modified because the binary flash counter has increased from 0 to 1 (or higher). That pretty much tells the phone that your device was modified.
There are a few guides around on how to do it. I can't really search at the moment as Im on my phone.

ok...
So If I want to update with samsung when android 4.2 comes out so I have to use triangle away and also unroot it???
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Thats right. Someone mentioned just downloading the file from www.sammobile.com when its released and flashing that with odin.
Im not sure if that works while rooted but may be worth investigating?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Ok... then...
I'll go check it

There is guides in this forum relating to your issue, but basically use Triangle Away, then wipe data/cache and it should change your status, though some say it reverts back to modified after time...
I would just leave it rooted. 4.2 based roms will be available here probably long before you would see it getting pushed to your device by your carrier.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Downloading and installing the firmware using ODIN resolves the issue.

Guys... I tried using triangle away...
The binary count wont go lower than 1 but atleast the update is working now...
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Ok ...
I flash my device with odin mobile pro and factory reset everything...
Looks it looks new
The binary count and everything else is new and official

Yes you need to stop Knox for security specific apps.
Go to settings>general>security and check unknown sources , then uncheck verify apps. This is mainly for installing apps.
But since there's no real indication of what you have installed, and whats running. i'd do that first and go from there.
From what the masses say, its a root issue that has been fixed. SO yes, you have to be rooted to get rid of whatever you are trying to do.
Thanks ill do that.

Why dont you just do this? Just a suggestion if your not ready to root. I'm holding off rooting also (for now ) I'm still discovering all the things it will do just stock.

Really. It has never come back for me after I checked it. Odd.
My grandma has a sprint Note 2 (I have an S3) and is the 4.3 a FOTA? I won't be able to get to her until like Dec 20th and root her phone.and install CM or modded stock. I told her to click no whenever possible for the update. And she said she will. But if it forces I can't help that. I'm trying to avoid KNOX.

No KNOX for Sprint

The Sprint Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 update did not include KNOX.
Yes it is knox is on that update I had to use root to remove it . But lorjay589 has a rom with 4.3 without knox bootloader or any of the knox files that's what I'm running now. Try reading the threats for more info to help you out more.

So Knox can be removed on these phones?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
Yup it can read around the forum it can be completely non existent on 4.3 using lorjay 598 rom or removing it your self. His rom even remove the knox bootloader which prevent you from downgrading . Read the thread he has

Well she is 100% stock not rooted. Fota stands for forced ota so can she just keep tapping no until I can get to her and root it and flash a 4.3 ROM?

I had read that Samsung did not push KNOX out on the Sprint Galaxy Note 2 (4.3) update because of file size, but I found the files on my Note 2 using Elixir. I don't have the app icon, but the files are certainly loaded on my phone. Thanks for the heads up!
No problem. Some devices have the icon in the app drawer like my s4 but this does not sneaky samsung.

Is it possible to down grade Bell 4.3 to 4.1.2 and it to be totally stock. I have tried to Reflash several different fiels to downgrade but it won't do it. Is it possible to do or am I stuck with 4.3
You are stuck until the devs give us a way back. ..
The entire package can be downgraded.... But the bootloader can't..... Yet....g

How do I check what boot loader I am on. I gave been flashing back and forth with no issues
Sent from my SGH-I317M using xda app-developers app
I believe u can just enter download mode ansd on the top left itll say bootloader model counter etc.
Sent from my SGH-I317 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Flashing is no problem...as we can flash any rom....kernel etc.
The trouble is the bootloader...and it's Knox enabled partition...
Once a flag is set...this partition is re-written and an efuse is blown...
The flag removes the ability to downgrade the bootloader ...as it now protects itself and the changes it made...
A real kick in the berries for us...and a huge bonus for Sammy...
So if your bootloader is flagged...the warranty is toast...
Until a really smart group of developers can figure out a fix...we can never revert to stock again....g
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
With that said about the partition. Can we not just re-partition with odin?

No...
These changes are well below the standard PIT partition structure ....and are likely hard bound on the EMMC...
I've never seen such a malicious piece of code before...
It resists every known attempt to access the bootloader...
I'm working with a developer today in hopes that a bootloader downgrade patch will work...but I'm not gonna count my chickens just yet..
The corporate clowns at Sammy deserve a **** sandwich for this obvious attack on our right to choose Knox or not...
I was never given the chance to "not" take Knox for my device...and they provided no warning about the outcome if the OTA was taken...
Shame on them....g

say i have a bell or rogers i317m and its on 4.3, all i want is to enable to aws frequency for wind mobile, would i still need to downgrade to 4.1 to do that? im not sure if the aws enabling thing requires 4.1, just the unlock?
Im running the MJ4 leak from a few weeks back. Works fine. for those wondering why air command and all those goodies weren't included, you have to buy the note 3 to get them. Good thing our devs ported them. BTW the MJ4 leak is completely downgradeable to 4.1.1 LJ2
How can I flah a bootloader for my i317m from an att bootloader. If I do that and it dont show my knox I can send my phone in and they will cover a repair. I did that with my infuse by accident and dint remember how

Do you have any warranty left on your phone? If you do, rooting may trip the Knox counter and void the warranty.
I'm not worried about the warranty I just want my phone to be better
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Rooting will certainly allow you to remove bloatware and the like.
Do you have VMWare on your mac? If you do, you may be able to follow one of the 4.3 rooting guides that requires a PC.
No I don't have amything. So I need a step be step that can be used on a Mac.

As a side note, rooting will not automatically make your phone better.
If you have access to a PC, try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2538991
My main reason to root it the battery, bloat ware, and free tether. Sadly I only have a Mac and its like pulling teeth trying to find a way to root for 4.3 on a dang mac . Looks like I may have to find a Buddy with a pc
