My 2nd phone, the Note 2. Was rooted on 4.1 and I un-rooted it to flash the 4.3 update. I get notifications for the update, But when I download and reboot to install. It shows it's flashing and then it just error and restarts.
Any ideas?
I preface this with I know very little about the subject but I'll take a stab at it. You say you are unrooted, but are you stock? You may still have a custom recovery on your phone which I believe will prevent you from flashing 4.3 OTA. Im really not sure

If you did anything more than unlocking the bootloader and rooting you can't update with ota anymore.
OK. I thought that might b the problem. Do u know where I can get a link to the latest update?
Thanx

Yes, there is a 4.0.4 update. If you want it, then un-root, grab the OTA, and re-root.
Sorry if this has been asked b4. First day in this thread. Should I completely unroot or can I use the app that temporarily unroots
*found the thread with the download. I can just flash threw cwm

I have never tried the temp un-root, so I do not know anything about it.
If I had to guess, I would say that it does not matter which way you do it.
Someone with more Android knowledge than me will come along and let you know which would be better.
Yeah, you basically have 2 choices, unroot and go back to stock recovery, then wait for the OTA, or flash the 4.0.4 (or even 4.1) update yourself
Thanx. I just flashed the 4.0.4. But had to reroot. Everything seems to working great. Imma give it a lil b4 I jump on a 4.1 rom

That is not completely true. You can basically go ahead and flash as well (e.g. Jelly Bean) without breaking OTA.
As long as the files you are flashing are all stock (Android Build, Kernel, Radio & RIL, Bootloader), not de-odexed, and you do not permanently install an alternative Recovery (like CWM) and moreover take care that your busybox version is not known for interfering with OTA in some cases (like the Stericson one), you will be able to do a lot more than just unlocking and rooting and the OTA is supposed to still work if everything is done right.

Unlocked and have recovery...just flash the 4.0.4 radios and a 4.0.4/4.1 ROM. You are done with OTA. Manually flash updates or restore to stock.
Hello
I have rooted my Galaxy Note II and installed CWM for the recovery. I am also running a stock ROM. There is a new OTA update, and before I am going to do it, quick question: when I update, will I still have root access or will it break it somehow? I'm running the Stock 4.1.1
Flash stock recovery..so u can get ota then just root again..rooting takes 3 seconds

The update did not work for some reason. Is there anything else that would need to be changed in order for the update to work?
U have stock recovery?

Hello,
I too had root, CWM recovery and stock ROM on my note 2 and was able to successfully take the OTA update to 4.1.2 and retain root access. I obviously have a stock recovery now after the upgrade but root is still present! I did have SuperSU (paid for version) that has the Survive OTA update mode and it worked like a charm! One thing to note is that it was not obvious at first that root was retained.
Immediately after the update, my root access failed when trying to use Titanium backup. Also, other apps requiring root access were failing as well. So, I went into SuperSU and ticked the "enable Super User" mode off and then on again and rebooted the phone.
After the reboot I noticed that Titanium Backup had root access and then verified the rest of my apps were working as well.
Three cheers to the creators of these wonderful programs.....I'm very glad I paid for the updates and got the added functionality!!
Good luck to all and hopefully it works as well for you as it did for me!!
So i rooted my phone a few months back but im still stock, im on 4.0.4 and because if been rooted, i've skipped two updates. What can i do to make the update go through? i still wanna be stock but i know this update jellybean, which i want.
I've read having root blocks the update. There's a rooted version of the stock update in the dev section you can install.

So what's it called, I've been away from the scene for a long while.
All you need to do is download kies and under one of the menus is an option to emergency stock recovery this will take you to both the latest version and restore your phone to completely stock

So I just started getting the notification for the verizon One update. It's obviously not 4.3, but I wouldn't mind installing it to see if anything has changed. The problem is that I'm rooted and have CWM installed. Every time it goes into recovery to flash the update, it fails to install and then just reboots. I'm used to dealing with nexus devices, so is there any way for me to flash back to the stock rom and get the OG recovery back?

If you don't mind losing possibility of soff, losing your root, and possibly your unlock then sure. There is no point though.

I've been having stability issues with ROMs lately and want to go back to stock for a little. I was on 4.2.1 when I rooted, so would I just restore my backup or should I flash a stock 4.3 ROM, so I don't end up updating somehow and getting KNOX?
If you haven't updated your bootloader or OTAed to 4.3, I'd first try the Nandroid if I were you, and stay away from 4.3 if possible. There are entirely too many issues around here with the 4.3 update, and no way to go back to complete stock if something goes wrong.
