So I just started getting the notification for the verizon One update. It's obviously not 4.3, but I wouldn't mind installing it to see if anything has changed. The problem is that I'm rooted and have CWM installed. Every time it goes into recovery to flash the update, it fails to install and then just reboots. I'm used to dealing with nexus devices, so is there any way for me to flash back to the stock rom and get the OG recovery back?

If you don't mind losing possibility of soff, losing your root, and possibly your unlock then sure. There is no point though.

My understanding is that recovery stays in a separate partition and whatever you do to it does not affect getting an OTA, is that right?
Also, what if my phone is rooted using the Zerg exploit or whatever method, can I still get an OTA?
So basically I think my questions is, what ultimately decides whether my phone can get an OTA, or not?
if you are on stock ROM, you will get it just fine
but you might loose ROOT after it finish the upgrade
if you are on Custom ROM, you wont get OTA
You can get the ota even on a custom ROM. As long as you have the stock recovery.

How would you have a custom ROM with stock recovery? I've never rooted a Samsung phone since this is my first and I'm waiting to root it, so unless Samsung is different I don't see how.

You can flash stock recovery using odin

I'm sure within a couple days there will be a custom rom with the new features. that's an assumption but its always been like that on other phones I have had. Hopefully that's the case with this phone also.
I have stock rooted ROM with CWM recovery, is that okay? Or do I have to have a stock recovery?

you will get the notification for the ota, your phone will download it but when it boots into recovery to flash it and its not the stock recovery, it will just give an error and you will probably have to pull the battery to reboot. i did this on the nexus s. if i remember right i never got the ota notififcation again either after it failed.
I know there are methods out there that can flash the entire phone back to stock (kernel, ROM, recovery) but that involves wiping everything. Is there a way to flash back the stock recovery only since I'm already on stock ROM and kernel?
Big thanks...
I wonder where it puts the update after it downloads it. Would be nice to grab it and maybe install without reverting to stock...

It goes to data/cache if I remember right. And there will be rooted roms posted within hours of the ota so its really nothing to even worry about

There is a stock recovery posted in the dev section you can flash in Odin

Found that and it works. Thanks!
you can keep your phone more up to date by flashing roms as opposed to waiting for an OTA. galaxy s4g is still stuck on froyo. Epic 4g just got gingerbread.
Has has anyone received the update?

What is the update supposed to do or fix?
Just got my nexus. First thing I did was root and unlock. Then it said there was a update available, but would not install it. Took me straight to cam recovery . Someone please help. I believe I'm supposed to be updating to 4.0.4
*edit. Maybe I'm wrong. Is 4.0.2 the latest version with out romming. Sorry new to the nexus just left a dx2

If you did anything more than unlocking the bootloader and rooting you can't update with ota anymore.
OK. I thought that might b the problem. Do u know where I can get a link to the latest update?
Thanx

Yes, there is a 4.0.4 update. If you want it, then un-root, grab the OTA, and re-root.
Sorry if this has been asked b4. First day in this thread. Should I completely unroot or can I use the app that temporarily unroots
*found the thread with the download. I can just flash threw cwm
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I have never tried the temp un-root, so I do not know anything about it.
If I had to guess, I would say that it does not matter which way you do it.
Someone with more Android knowledge than me will come along and let you know which would be better.
Yeah, you basically have 2 choices, unroot and go back to stock recovery, then wait for the OTA, or flash the 4.0.4 (or even 4.1) update yourself
Thanx. I just flashed the 4.0.4. But had to reroot. Everything seems to working great. Imma give it a lil b4 I jump on a 4.1 rom

That is not completely true. You can basically go ahead and flash as well (e.g. Jelly Bean) without breaking OTA.
As long as the files you are flashing are all stock (Android Build, Kernel, Radio & RIL, Bootloader), not de-odexed, and you do not permanently install an alternative Recovery (like CWM) and moreover take care that your busybox version is not known for interfering with OTA in some cases (like the Stericson one), you will be able to do a lot more than just unlocking and rooting and the OTA is supposed to still work if everything is done right.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Unlocked and have recovery...just flash the 4.0.4 radios and a 4.0.4/4.1 ROM. You are done with OTA. Manually flash updates or restore to stock.

Yes you will. But you'll lose root and CWM of you accept it.
Edit: if you have superuser paid version it does have ota survival but its not guaranteed to keep root.

Has anyone tried Rootkeeper with this OTA? If so, can you provide feedback on the results?
I just got the phone and its askin me to update.
now i rooted and unlocked bootloader.
what does this update break?
If the update is v8, and you have v7 installed, i've heard good and bad to if it works. If its the rumored v9, don't install yet.

FYI to anyone else. You can't install ANY otas if you've unlocked. You must relock before flashing an OTA.

At which point you have to use LGNPST to restore back.

Yep its a good thing we have that utility
My keyboard it's acting retarded. It is slow to load and locks up and puts the text at the top instead of after the word I just typed. I am using Swype. This has been going on since I got the phone.
Anyways, I am getting to the point. I rebooted my phone and it said "your update is complete" after the boot animation. I was on version 8 and I still am. I wonder what updated. I can't see an app doing that.

Hey, just got my G today. I rooted using the GAIO tool, and havent learned the terminology for this phone yet. I have also unlocked the bootloader. now for the different updates in on 4.0.4, and there is a option to upgrade to (and I quote) "production-zv7_to_zv8_EMR1_inc" saying it will ensure my device is working at optimal performance. I have nothing but some text messages I could live with losing on it right now. So would I be able to update this with root, as long as I lock the bootloader? and can I have the link to a tool if there is one? I am trying to get a feel for this phone, then I will use what I learned from my Evo 4G to get a couple of decent roms going for people to try (Note: im not an android n00b, just dont want to brick my phone and get yelled at by parents). Also is the "V9" update supposed to be jellybean? Because I think I was mistaken that it was already out. if somebody can help me get the latest version and understand my current tools to use for my phone, it would greatly help me. A system dump would too.
EDIT: keyboard was acting up, so I updated it, and now stuck in CWM, which sucks. I am now installing LGNPST 1.3, and will try to figure out how to use it. I am also downloading the rooted factory images, and will try to convert those to .zip to flash in CWM. any help I would love!
TWRP is the the recovery that works best for the OG.

well I got my problem fixed, and I hope we can get a rom or two out soon. I have contacted alot of Devs lately, and might be helping with a few projects either as a tester, or a chef/developer.
My 2nd phone, the Note 2. Was rooted on 4.1 and I un-rooted it to flash the 4.3 update. I get notifications for the update, But when I download and reboot to install. It shows it's flashing and then it just error and restarts.
Any ideas?
I preface this with I know very little about the subject but I'll take a stab at it. You say you are unrooted, but are you stock? You may still have a custom recovery on your phone which I believe will prevent you from flashing 4.3 OTA. Im really not sure
