Ugly. Lol a wood phone? Yuck.
Sent from my Moto X cell phone telephone...

It was supposed to be the back piece but since I ordered already I hope it's a wood case. But I'm pretty sure it's the wood back option.

Most definitely the long awaited wood back pieces. Now just a matter of time before they pop up on alibaba. Yay!

they should offer a one-time design swap for any design as soon as these are released. you had 14 days to pick and re-pick your design... i think they should temporarily extend it.

Well, they added wood backs to the motomaker today:
https://www.motorola.com/us/motomaker?pid=FLEXR1#exterior/backplate
Unfortunately, it's only currently available in bamboo, costs $100 more, and will delay your order 2weeks...

Disappointing. They don't look solid... more like a veneer over a plastic back, or possibly a thicker plank fused within a plastic surround. In any event I seem to have lost interest here (especially considering the C note extra).

without having seen them in person, you can pretty much bet on this being the case. there's no way that they would have been able to engineer the wood such that it would be strong enough to grip on to the phone without a ton of glue. having said that, the amount of veneer used in the process probably only increased production by pennies.
i still think they look amazing and i still think there will be issues down the line (peeling, cracking, etc). at least moto is doing something unique here. with all of the functionality this phone offers, in addition to the overall design, this is my new favorite phone. here's hoping moto sticks with the design/process/etc and only updates the internals.

my brother has the s4 now and just ordered the bamboo back moto x i cant wait to see it!

Every report I've read states that the backs will indeed be solid wood, so no veneer or anything that should peel. What I think they did was have the solid wood back fit into a plastic frame, which has the clips that attach it to the body of the phone. In this picture, I think the white border is the plastic frame.

unfortunately until we see them in person, and someone does a tear-down, we won't know the truth. i hope they're solid wood, but how thick could they possibly be? the picture shows the dimple present, which means the wood will need to have a similar thickness (or be thickened in the general area). the idea of it being a solid piece leaves me curious as to how they managed to get the speaker grill identical to the detail of the plastic cover. i can't imagine that wood fibers would allow for that amount of presicion.

WHITE ULTRA THIN 0.3mm review

Picked up one of these cases from ebay;
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/180931774909?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_1503wt_770
and I have to say it, for what it's made for, is great! Now, I don't drop my phone a whole heck of a lot, so I wasn't looking for something to protect it against constant drops. What I wanted was something to protect the back/sides against scratches/nicks when it is in my pocket. And this does exactly that. It's super thin, which is noticeable when coming from other cases. The fact that it is opaque means that the design of the phone is pretty much intact. Which is great for this phone, since it is quite good looking to begin with. One added bonus, the case does have a very small lip to it which protects the screen when putting the phone down, face down.
If you are looking for an inexpensive case to do the basics(protect from scratches, minor drops, look good, have all buttons/ports easily accessible), then I would suggest this case.
any pictures of your s3 with it? the ebay pics aren't cutting it for me
does it cover the entire bottom of the phone?

FYI:
opaque: Not able to be seen through; not transparent.
transparent: Allowing light to pass through so that objects behind can be distinctly seen.
this case is semitransparent to get technical.. not opaque.

Luardi Slim Bumper (Best Bumper So Far)

For the past six months, I've been searching and waiting for the perfect bumper and I think I've finally found it. The other bumpers like Draco and Tedoori have button cutouts that kill the symmetry of the phone's lines. Bumpers like Spigen are plastic and just look terrible.
The one made by Luardi is slim and has nice curves that won't kill the S3's nice curves. I have yet to see someone review it here so :I will post one when I get it.
What do you guys think?

Looks great, but way to expensive
Wouldn't exactly say that's anywhere near "Way too expensive". Considering other aluminum bumpers like the Draco Design's one is nearly double the price....
Actually, it's on sale on eBay and you can pick it up for $40. Still pricey but not bad. Hope it's worth it.
Does anyone know things will work with the metal back covers that are on Amazon , if so I'll buy one.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Metal backs will distort NFC but phone signal is not really affected that much unless your normal signal is bad to begin with.
Looks nice, if it didn't have the grip parts I might consider it.
Overall doesn't seem expensive IMHO
Anyone received theirs yet?

So how is it? Any pictures?
i'm curious, too. Thinking about possibly getting one of these, or Luardi's leather wallet case... i'd prefer staying with something that doesn't increase the bulk of the phone, but also curious about how installing the phone in Luardi's aluminum bumpers goes.
Just ordered mine
Ordered mine from ebag through Amazon for $37. First time it came the case did not look anything like the picture. It was probably a knockoff. Called Ebag and they assured me it was probably mis-packaged my employee so I'm ordering another one.
The attached picture shows the one they sent me. Just a case with a cut out for the buttons.
Pictures
After some crazy Fedex routing, I finally got my bumper. At first, I glance, I was disappointed, because I got the same case as previously mentioned from eBags via Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Luardi-Aluminum-Bumper-Samsung-Galaxy/dp/B00ANWLUO0/). But then when I opened it up more, I realized that this was in fact the aluminum bumper, it just doesn't match the picture that Luardi / Amazon / eBags posted on their order page.
The case is more subdued than in the advertised pictures and the bumps along the size are less pronounced (I prefer that). The one thing they did design-wise was to make the top portion a thin plastic inset to hold the phone in the bumper. It seems to work, but makes the case feel cheaper. It could be that this design allows the bumper to be less bulky without additional securing closures. It looks pretty good, but it isn't as solid as I had hoped, it will creak and flex slightly when squeezed, particularly along the bottom where the plastic inset can be released.
I took some pictures and posted them on dropbox:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/agfy6zj9tk1prni/ceJKB08chh
Let me know if there are any other angles that you want me to take.
I am trying out the case to see whether I am going to keep it. I suspect that Amazon / eBags would still authorize the return since it clearly doesn't match what they are advertising.
Digging the finger grips
Looks cool. I wonder if it's equivalent to Draco bumpers

[Review] Woodchuck Wood Skin (Ebony)

I've had this product since mid September(2013), and after a summer of switching around and trying many different cases for the HTC One I never found one I truly liked until coming across this beautifully simplistic and elegant product from Woodchuck.
Using only the backing gives you the satisfying naked feel of the handset while adding a nice textured surface on the back for added stability/grip while holding the handset in comparison to using the HTC One without any case or backing, I found the aluminum to be very slippery to hold.
The only downsides of the product is your handset will be more prone to dents and other aesthetic damage leaving only the back of the phone protected from scratches. If you're careful with your handsets, this isn't an issue.
The wood back is made out of locally sourced Ebony wood in the USA. Each piece is laser cut, hand sanded and finished in their Minneapolis workshop. The product adheres to your phone with 3M™ Brand (Non-Residue) Adhesive.
Overall I would rate the product 5/5 Stars, I really love it and it's always been a conversation starter when people see my phone.
To be noted: Over time the edge of the product(on the left and right side) peels up very slightly leaving a half MM gap. It's unnoticeable unless you're looking closely at the handset.
To any future owner of the product, I advise wiping down the back of the phone with rubbing alcohol before applying the backing to ensure the adhesive sticks well.

The product comes in two different veneers available for the HTC One.
Woodchuck also caters to various phones, tablets, laptops, headphones, and custom orders.

My main question, does it smell like wood? That's the only reason I'd buy a real wood skin/case, next to texture.

It's made from real wood as stated in my review.
I think it looks great and love that it is real wood:thumbup:. My problem with it is it doesn't cover the entire back, to me it looks incomplete.

Looks awful imo does not go with the metal. Should cover the whole back and it wouldn't look so bad. Prob look better with a light wood like pine.

[Q] [Idea] Gold/Silver ring on the bezel ??

Hey everyone,
I recently got a black Moto 360, while I love the subdue look of it, I like to spice it up a little. What I would like to do is glue on a silver or gold ring onto the flat part of the bezel around the display. Made a mock-up of what I want to do with a photo editor. Has anyone seen something similar available for sale ? I have seen slickwraps vinyl sticker which covers the sides, but I would like real metal ring for the top part. Wondering if a jeweler will be able to make one ?

I fear that a jeweler could be an expensive route, if you find out a quote, please let me know!
Nice. But have a feeling this would be one of those ideas that looks good in principle, but practically not so good. It would need to be super thin for starters otherwise it's going to interfere with swiping on the screen. Secondly how would it affix? Again, would need some super fine sticky stuff which is peelable.

Yeah, I think a better solution would be to have someone polish the outer rim. It would be very difficult, since the glass raises up above the frame, so the chances of scratching the glass are pretty high. Just a thought. It does look good though. I also have a black Moto 360, and have found myself eyeing the silver ones...

I don't think thickness would be too much of an issue. I have seen metal / alloy washers n stuff which are less than 0.5mm, and since the glass of the watch sticks out about 1mm from the bezel, having a very thin metal ring shouldn't interfere much. Same goes for glue, there are plenty of products out there. I'm pretty sure it can be done in a way that doesn't interfere with the normal swiping / operation of the watch. The bigger issue is getting such a ring made.

interesting, yes I think that could work better (assuming I can find someone to polish it without damaging anything). However I would like to keep the watch as stock as possible.
You can get gold vinyl wrapvthe kind they use on cars .. You would have to be meticulous about trimming it and would have to use a sharo exacto and hair dryer

This is exactly what I'm looking for too. Should be simple enough, just need dimensions and a metal shop.

Have you found a solution yet?
I am super curious to see if this idea can be brought to life! There are so many things I'd like to customize to make the 360 even cooler, but I am afraid I don't have the requisite skills to do it myself
A thin ring of brass would be nice for a gold look, I might try this when I get mine. I have a CNC that I can cut it on, just adhering it would be a problem, a few dabs of super glue might just be enough and wouldn't be permanent either.

Genuine Wood Cover for Xperia Z3 Compact

HI everyone
I just want to share with you some impressions about my "balolo" wood cover, which I received about 5 weeks ago.
When I got my Xperia Z3 Compact last year I instantly bought a case in the first few days. But I must say that I prefer to hold my device "naked" in my hands without any disturbing material around the edges. A friend of mine told me to have a look on the products of "balolo".
I ordered a genuine wood cover and engraved it with a picture of me and my girlfriend. In the first two oder three days the cover was smelling like wood (what should be quite normal for a product made out of genuine wood). The quality of the (walnut) wood is very good and also the engraving looks perfect.
But the best thing about it was the price: 29€ for something I expected to cost a least twice of it! After 5 weeks of using it I can´t say anything negative about it (except you don´t like the wood smell in the first days), so from my point of view a clearly recommendation!!

It sticks onto the back of the phone with a 3M peel-off sticky backing. It's not really a case, more a textured back covering the glass. It won't provide any protection to the sides or front (although I believe you can get a front glass protector with it too - but I suspect that is much like any other stick on screen protector).
I was a little disappointed with this when it arrived, but actually found it looked good, and I could still used the Ringke Fusion case on top to provide some more substantial protection to the phone itself. Actually, the Fusion case fits even better with the relatively thin wooden backing on the phone.
Here's mine. I didn't realize it was just a sticker for the back either, but it looks great without adding thickness to the sides of the phone. I think I'll keep it on.
The only drawback is how it adds an edge around the back. Its not a sharp edge, but you can definitely feel it while holding the phone.
