Id just love to be able to find touchwiz roms in one forum and AOSP roms in another. Is that a stupid idea?
I always thought thats what "Android Development" and "Original Android Development" forums were meant for, yet theres always AOSP roms mixed in between whatever Im looking for. Im running BACK to stock now, and cant find a good TW rom. ugh.
Well if your running stock then it will only be in Android development section. As for roms. For 4.3 stock they are all pretty much just debloated roms. So just pick one. You wanna debloat your self flash the stock 4.3 by cenexus

i liked Dandroids AOSP themed stock. it was the most comfortable rom (for me) ever.
Development came to a screeching halt on it. I hate the green themed stock but just want to be up-to-date.

first, im new to android so please bear with me. i've searched and cant find info on what i'm looking for, so if i missed it please just forward me to where i need to go.
i have an evo 4g that came with android 2.1, but i've updated to 2.2. i've read about rooting your android phone and i understand what thats about. i've also read only that you can root and remove the sense ui, just leaving the stock android platform.
once the phone is rooted, do you just uninstall htc sense? if not, do you need to load a different rom? if so, i've seen a poll that said cm6.1 and warm wyn or whatever were the top two. would i just flash that rom?
thanks for the help...
You can do both, either flash a ROM or uninstall sense
Sent from my PC36100
There are plenty of "non-sense" ROMS but if you want AOSP then you should just flash CM6.
there is a difference between no sense and aosp. non sense means the sense launcher is gone (you have a replacement from the market) which speeds up your phone by quite a bit. aosp is like what is on the nexus one. stock android. myn (not wyn) has the most highly respected non-sense rom for it's deep mods and slick tweaks. cyanogenmod is really held the hughest on the rom developer tower of respect for him and his team building a full on aosp rom from the ground up. it has many, and i mean many, things that were simply not put into android. it really is great. i switched away because i could not live without my sense widgets.
i perfer ava froyo (v10 is coming very soon) but it is sense, so boo hoo.
ok thats good. i like the look of cyanogenmod. as for uninstalling sense, i assume that i'll have to root to do that. has anyone actually done that?
i've been wanting to flash cyanogenmod, but have concerns. is there a way to save the rom that i have now before i flash? i want something to roll back to incase something goes wrong with the flash.
So, I've been lurking around the forums for awhile and trying to find a rom that is simply pure android 110%. Surely, I have found CM10's, AOKP's, KANG, etc etc, however I couldn't seem to find any rom that was just pure ANDROID! No extra mods, themes, etc... Like on a Stock Gnex, so my question being, is there one I am over looking ? I tried googling it to no avail.
Thanks (=
EDIT: Such an idiot, I posted in General instead of Q&A. Could someone move this to Q&A please? x.x
Well my cyanogenmod 10.1 4.2.2 is pretty close. There are the added tweaks but I like them. If you want a true nexus then you better also pull your ext SD card out. That's the only thing keeping me away.

Ya I have to agree that 10.1 is pretty darn close

Paranoid Android is also really close, as is AOKP. They all have tweaks, its just a matter of which set of tweaks you like the most. As mentioned, the only way to get pure aosp is to get a nexus.

is there something in particular you're looking for in a nexus rom or something you're seeing that you dont want? because otherwise, the aosp-based roms that have been named here will generally look exactly like a stock nexus device. i know Faryaab has assembled a SuperNexus rom. i used to run the 4.1 version on my S2 last year, but the S3 one is only for the i9300 variant. dont go trying to flash that. you'll be all set with CM10, AOKP, or any other roms in the original android dev section. cheers
Absolute stock 100% AOSP will be missing quite a few features. Like you, I tried to find the same for a while and realized how watered down the OS is.
That being said, the only pure AOSP is currently for the international variant and won't work on this device. Your only option is to compile it from source yourself, which can be very difficult if you are not a developer.

Im only partially familiar with roms and flashing(used to flash optimus V until I upgraded to a phone with no devs working on it XD ), I was fairly familiar with a cyanogenmod port for my op-V and liked that.
Anyways more specifically im not familiar with any of the devs or their products and was wondering which rom will give me the most preformace and lowest battery drain?
or is it too soon in the nexus 7's life to determine this kinda thing?
should I just stick with stock for now?
also if you have any words of advice or such so a new nexus 7, I'd love to here em.
just flash every rom out there and decide which ever is the "best" for you then stay with it .
What exactly do you find wrong with the stock rom? My thoughts on custom roms have always been if it isn't broke don't fix it.

Options and features.... for example Cyanogenmod has a ton of features that the original ROM doesn't have. Also speed sometimes dictates switching roms. Alot of custom roms are striped down and are faster also.

Not about fixing, but improving
Paranoid Android is fast becoming a personal favorite. Tablet UI is how things ought to be. It's very easy to make a backup image, backup apps, and just start flashing. Now's a good time to start, too, as it's early and the selection is fairly limited. It will only grow from here..

if you like stock and want the ability to choose what you want, cleanrom is great

Very true what you guys say, stock ROM is great and all but I love to see all the cool features people put out in their custom Roms.

I flashed every ROM that was available, that after I backed-up my original stock ROM. It's the only way you'll find which one you like the most. My 2 best options are ParanoidAndroid 3 and CyanogenMod Kangs, but I love the stability and speed of latter. It's all about preferences, just read a lot of comments of what users say and that also can help you.
Update: I love too much the custom ROMS, the customizing and the utilities they add are just fantastic. That's why I never stay with a stock ROM.
CleanROM if you just want a basic ROM like stock without all the bloatware.
ParanoidAndroid if you want a ton of features to play around with. Some are buggy at the moment and performance won't be as good as it would be with CleanROM but I think it's worth it for the features.
Hello,
I am looking for a custom ROM that is based on the stock builds but, debloated, rooted, and fast. I have always found these for Captivate, and S2. I can't seem to find one for the S3.
The open source ROMs are super slick and cool, but, I actually prefer the way stock Samsung handles the dialer, contacts, email, and messaging. As this is 90% of my usage, it is 90% of my enjoyment.
I do like the speed and options available in a custom ROM though. I need a daily driver with options
Any recommendations?
Thanks...DCF

I concur.
XDA is a development site not a support site. As such members are expected to do the research, read through the development threads and decide what is BEST for them. The only results that would be posted here are what each member has found to be BEST for them by experimentation based on their phone/usage/setup/apps/signal strength. Have a great day!
Does an 'untweaked' Play Edition (Nexus) ROM exist for the GS3. I have done some searching, but when have not had much luck.
Thank you,
Don
By Google Play edition, are you referring to the experience on "Google Play Edition Devices" as listed here? If that's the case, then you are looking for AOSP Roms. (Please Google AOSP). Such Roms offer pure android experience without the manufacturer bloat.
Primary among AOSP Roms is CynogenMod or CM for short. Then there are several other Roms that also offer AOSP experience but add a few niche features. You can find them all in the "Original Android Development" SubForum.
You will also come across Roms that are Touchwiz. These roms are based on Samsung's Stock firmware. If the above is true, you are not looking for this.
A plain AOSP ROM is what I am looking for. I have recently become aware of the xposed framework etc, and want to see how it works with AOSP (rather than an already mod'd ROM).
Thank you again!

Xposed Framework will work pretty well on AOSP Roms. Does some great things.
Which AOSP ROM would you recommend for me to start experimenting with. I assume I want the most basic (pure PE) ROM so modules do not conflict?
I also have a insurance replaced GS3 with the stock TW Samsung ROM on it. Once I root, can I use the Xposed framework on it (would I even want to)?
Thank you for your help and attention.

Yes. There are xposed modules made for touchwiz. Many people love using them, but im not yet convinced its as good using a rom with the desired mods built in.
Id suggest reading up on it and giving it a try to see how well it works for your needs. Just dont forget to backup first of course.

There are quiet a few Roms that are pretty Good. For Ex. Slim Bean, C-Rom, CM to name just a few of the AOSP Roms. As to the Xposed Modules, as Doc said, You'd rather use what's baked into the Rom rather than use corresponding Module.
Here on XDA, we do not "Reccomend" any particular Rom for at least a couple of Reasons.
1. Reccomending one rom does injustice to the hard work of the Developers of the other Roms. They all really are Great ones.
2. What is Good for me and my usage pattern may not hold true for you or anyone else.
Best way to determine is to give each Rom a try and see what you are comfortable with. As always take a Nandroid before hand so you can retrace your Steps.
Xposed mods work on both types. I stick with touchwiz ROMs though mostly for true multi window.
I can confirm Xposed works on S3rx and Docs port of 4.4 from sprint perfectly.
