So, I've been lurking around the forums for awhile and trying to find a rom that is simply pure android 110%. Surely, I have found CM10's, AOKP's, KANG, etc etc, however I couldn't seem to find any rom that was just pure ANDROID! No extra mods, themes, etc... Like on a Stock Gnex, so my question being, is there one I am over looking ? I tried googling it to no avail.
Thanks (=
EDIT: Such an idiot, I posted in General instead of Q&A. Could someone move this to Q&A please? x.x
Well my cyanogenmod 10.1 4.2.2 is pretty close. There are the added tweaks but I like them. If you want a true nexus then you better also pull your ext SD card out. That's the only thing keeping me away.

Ya I have to agree that 10.1 is pretty darn close

Paranoid Android is also really close, as is AOKP. They all have tweaks, its just a matter of which set of tweaks you like the most. As mentioned, the only way to get pure aosp is to get a nexus.

is there something in particular you're looking for in a nexus rom or something you're seeing that you dont want? because otherwise, the aosp-based roms that have been named here will generally look exactly like a stock nexus device. i know Faryaab has assembled a SuperNexus rom. i used to run the 4.1 version on my S2 last year, but the S3 one is only for the i9300 variant. dont go trying to flash that. you'll be all set with CM10, AOKP, or any other roms in the original android dev section. cheers
Absolute stock 100% AOSP will be missing quite a few features. Like you, I tried to find the same for a while and realized how watered down the OS is.
That being said, the only pure AOSP is currently for the international variant and won't work on this device. Your only option is to compile it from source yourself, which can be very difficult if you are not a developer.

Is there a difference and if so, what is the difference?
each has changelogs afaik , im using aokp and love it. cant speak for cm yet and unless im mistaken arent they all kangs right now ?
Flash them both, and have a look. It takes all of 5 minutes to flash a ROM. I used the CM9 builds on my Desire, not much of the CM9 extras are working, I'm not sure if that's the same for the Prime.
AOKP has extensive working tweaks, that much I do know.
aokp
difference is its features. cm9 is still in the works so a lot of the options you find in CM7 devices arent present yet.
On zephiK's recommendation I installed AOKP and don't see myself changing. It's a solid ROM.

There will be. There will be.
But for starters, AOPK is like Cyanogenmod, in the sense that both are based in AOSP. Neither are finished, at their current stages.
Im going from CM9 Kang to AOKP right now. CM9 was getting a little laggy for me (when moving around homescreens). And im sold by the AOKP tweaks
Reading the op of both rom threads can answer this

Uhm okay I was going to post a topic similar to this but ill save some room on the forums by asking it here:
What is AOSP and AOKP? What do they mean and what are they? Which one is better and what are the differences? Is it a specific ROM or is it like a category?

AOSP is Android Open Source Project, Android before manufacturers get their hands on it and install Sense or Touch Wiz. Essentially the Nexus Primes OS. AOKP is Android Open Kang Project a modified AOSP ROM made by Team Kang, with more bells and whistles than the stock Nexus ROM. Hope this helps.

Fresh blood
AOSP - Android Open Source Project. Simply put, this is Android straight from Google, with no modifications. This is what you have on your phone. All of the ROMs here are built on AOSP - most, like AOKP, add modifications, while some don't.
AOKP - Android Open Kang Project. A ROM by Romanbb and his friends, built on AOSP, that adds many modifications and tweaks that aim to improve the end-user experience.
Yes it does thank you! So basically AOSP and AOKP are categories of the type of ROM a ROM is? Are there any other projects or are these the only two ones? Which one offers more stability and fluidness in the OS?

Almost.
AOSP is the version of Android that comes straight from Google. Manufacturers (such as Samsung, HTC, Motorola, etc) usually like to take AOSP ROMs and add their own modifications to it - and that's how we got Samsung's Touchwiz, HTC's Sense, Motorola's MotoBlur, etc.
However, Google partners up each year with a manufacturer to release a Nexus device. These devices are special in that they always come with AOSP, and because of that, they are always the first to receive updates to the Android OS, and are for the most part the devices with the most developer support on forums such as XDA.
AOKP isn't a type of ROM in itself - it is just a name given to a specific ROM. Like AOKP, you have for example CyanogenMod, which is yet a different ROM. Because we have a Nexus device, all of the ROMs you'll see in our development section are all built straight on AOSP. There are many ROMs out there, all unique in their own way, and the best way to find out which one is right for you is simply to try them all out. It may be scary at first, but after your 1st or 2nd flash, you'll become addicted for a few weeks
Thanks! Do you have a ROM that you recommend? Also, if all of the nexus ROM's are built off of AOSP, why is CM9 built off of Kang?

It's not, where did you read that? CM9 will be built from the ground up using the AOSP released by Google back in November.
Kang are using the Cyanogen GitHub to compile a CM9 beta ROM, as as far as I know, CM haven't released any betas (do they even release beta ROMs?) As far as I know they just go for a final build which is as stable as stable can be, people can't wait for the final builds and build ROMs using their work so we can try them as they are developed by the CM team.
That's my understanding of it anyways.
Oh my bad. I jumped to conclusions when I read the title to this post haha.

CM is not built off of Kang. Kang is simply a term used to denote a compiled build of a ROM by someone other than that ROM's team or "authorized dealer". For example, User A compiles CM, changed a few lines in the code, and then publishes it here as his own work. That is a kang, and its highly frowned upon.
The reason the CM thread is labeled a "kang" is because there are no official builds of CM9 coming straight from CM yet - they're just experimental builds as of now. The reason why its allowed, is because recognized members of the CM team are releasing them.
I unfortunately don't even have my Nexus yet, but its coming in two days and I'm getting my feet wet. However, from what I've been exposed to, one of the more popular combinations around here seem to be AOKP with Franco's kernel.
I strongly advise you not to flash anything yet, though. You seem motivated to be here, which is good - but you also seem to not know too much about the world of Android yet.
Please, take the time to read through the following links:
Basic Android Terminology
Galaxy Nexus Frequently Asked Questions
Different Guides and Tutorials for the Galaxy Nexus
After you've finished, you'll be a little more familiar with Android and how stuff works. If you have questions, I strongly advise you to search Google and XDA first - I can almost guarantee your question has already been answered before
If you searched, but couldn't find an answer, please post in the Q&A sub-forum - there are many members like myself who love to help new users who are willing to take the time to learn themselves, without expecting others to do their work for them.
Finally, as a general rule, don't post stuff in the development sub-forum that aren't specifically development related. Yes, if you'll go through them, you'll probably see a bunch of posts that aren't tied in directly to development - but two wrongs don't make a right if you have a question about a specific ROM, usually the answer is right in that ROM's thread - if it isn't, most ROMs have IRC chatrooms set up, and if they don't - consider making a thread in the Q&A sub-forum.
Hey guys. I'll be flashing a new rom soon, and I wanted to get your opinions on which of these roms to flash. I've been using Liquidsmooth V1.4 but with Jelly Bean I'm considering flashing a new rom.
I tried AOKP when it was still ICS and I decided to switch to Liquidsmooth because it has all the same features that I use and the rom file is smaller so the battery life it better. Battery life is one of my main concerns so it will be one of the main deciding factors for my rom of choice. Please help me make my decision, and only comment if you have actually used both roms in one of their more recent forms.
Also, please include your kernel, and other info you feel is important enough to include. Thanks
Wrong section buddy. Development only in this section.

There are many threads on what ROM. Use the search feature and why are you still flashing ICS-based ROMs? Jelly Bean is out....
CM10 is probably the most feature riched ROM for JB. Thread also doesn't belong in this forum.
Liquid is one of the stupidest roms out there. They've hacked together so many features from different roms and they've done a sloppy job. Switching the icons of the notification powerwidgets doesn't work when you try from the menu (the option is there, it doesn't do anything - that's why I consider it sloppy - there are buttons that are supposed to "do something" but don't do anything.)
Also, they just took Trebuchet launcher of CM9 and just renamed it to Liquid Launcher. I know it's open source but it's still theft, isn't it?
AOKP is also a rom focusing more on features than stability.
I'd suggest you try CM9 - I found it a lot smoother than AOKP and the rom is consistent and works.
Also... wrong subforum - this **** goes to QA or general, not here.

They did the same thing for rom control and renamed it to liquid control.
Wow they really renamed it to liquid launcher? I mean yeah its open source but at least give credit where it's due and not rename a app and put liquid on it.
+1 for cm9. Although like what I said, take a look at a jelly bean roms. Particularly cm10 its really smooth

I moved from Liquid to AOKP M6 and they're both great.
M6 has given me insane battery life and an awesome balance between features/stability.
Use the 3.1.9.9 Jame Bond kernel and I promise it'l be worth it.
What ROM is closest to stock Android like for the Nexus 4? Not something like CM10 where is adds apps and Trebuchet and stuff. Just completely stock, like the SuperNexus ROMS?
Like Touchwiz stock or AOSP stock?

He wants a pure AOSP experience. Not one that has been customized farther like CM or AOKP.
As for ROMs that meet your need, I think most AOSP ROMs for our G3s also use source from CM and AOKP. But looking quickly, it appears LiquidSmooth or SlimBean may suit your desires.
I figured as much, here are the links to Slimbean and Liquidsmooth: (and i'll look around for some more and post if i find them)

Try SlimBean of LiquidSmooth like stated above. They're the closest to pure AOSP for our devices.
Thanks guys! I was looking for a 4.2.1 ROM so I'm gonna go ahead and give LiquidSmooth a shot. I really appreciate the help
Just kidding, I'm gonna try SlimBean because I'm getting 500-Internal Error on goo.im

Hi
Looking for a bit of help, first time trying to do this with a tablet and i didn't seem to pick an easy one
I managed to acquire an end of line demo model Versus Touchpad 10.1, thing is, i'm looking to put a stock android rom onto it, preferably of a more current version of android than what is currently on the tablet (4.1). Any help on this would be appreciated, i've checked into CM but i couldn't find one that was related the the versus touchpad. Not looking for anything fancy, just looking for a more current version of android to put onto this tablet. Thank you

Im only partially familiar with roms and flashing(used to flash optimus V until I upgraded to a phone with no devs working on it XD ), I was fairly familiar with a cyanogenmod port for my op-V and liked that.
Anyways more specifically im not familiar with any of the devs or their products and was wondering which rom will give me the most preformace and lowest battery drain?
or is it too soon in the nexus 7's life to determine this kinda thing?
should I just stick with stock for now?
also if you have any words of advice or such so a new nexus 7, I'd love to here em.
just flash every rom out there and decide which ever is the "best" for you then stay with it .
What exactly do you find wrong with the stock rom? My thoughts on custom roms have always been if it isn't broke don't fix it.

Options and features.... for example Cyanogenmod has a ton of features that the original ROM doesn't have. Also speed sometimes dictates switching roms. Alot of custom roms are striped down and are faster also.

Not about fixing, but improving
Paranoid Android is fast becoming a personal favorite. Tablet UI is how things ought to be. It's very easy to make a backup image, backup apps, and just start flashing. Now's a good time to start, too, as it's early and the selection is fairly limited. It will only grow from here..

I flashed every ROM that was available, that after I backed-up my original stock ROM. It's the only way you'll find which one you like the most. My 2 best options are ParanoidAndroid 3 and CyanogenMod Kangs, but I love the stability and speed of latter. It's all about preferences, just read a lot of comments of what users say and that also can help you.
Update: I love too much the custom ROMS, the customizing and the utilities they add are just fantastic. That's why I never stay with a stock ROM.
CleanROM if you just want a basic ROM like stock without all the bloatware.
ParanoidAndroid if you want a ton of features to play around with. Some are buggy at the moment and performance won't be as good as it would be with CleanROM but I think it's worth it for the features.
Is there a rom that isnt touchwiz based like cm10.2 or paranoid but that supports apps 2sdcard? i love little minions rom but i really just love aosp roms i just would like to see apps 2sd card support! any Roms like that available?

You are going to have to do this research yourself. Threads like this which inevitably turn into "Which rom is best" discussions are not permitted on XDA.
Spend the time to read through all of the descriptions of available roms in the dev section. Try a bunch of them out to find one that is right for you. You will learn A TON in this process and it's a great experience.
Getting other people to simply telly ou which rom to use will not help you learn anything.
