have you tried flashing a recovery through fastboot? How come you don't have a baseband version either?

Have you tried to fastboot boot recovery.img ? Or fastboot boot boot.img ?
As said above you may want to just fastboot flash a recovery and a boot img. Tho I'm not sure if that is possible without being unlocked.
What steps led up to the 'bricking' of the device? Did you wipe something by accident that shouldn't have been wiped?

download wugfresh nexus root toolkit and use the flash stock/ unroot option.

I will admit, I think it is neat that someone can come up with something like that, but what you are trying to get this guy to do is not the correct way and there are too many things that could go wrong when using a toolkit. Since everything is automated, if something were to go wrong you don't know what part of it did not work. When you do things manually with fastboot, you can see everything you did to determine if you are not doing something correctly. And if you recommend using a toolkit in these forums, you will be talked down on. Just a fact of life.

yeah well the fact that this guy has a bricked phone and has no clue how he has it, kinda points out that he should've used a toolkit which has proven to work pretty great for me in the first place . i'm giving this guy options to make his phone right again and i do it with my own knowledge which isn't much, that's why i use toolkit myself because it is tested and makes things safer for noobs like me .
and this guys comes and say i have no respect for people like me or i'm lazy is really funny.

Alrighty....OP, did you figure out what's up with your phone yet?

OK. Where is your empirical proof that a toolkit would have worked for him?
This guy? Lol.
You freely admit to not having much knowledge on the subject but yet you come in recommending a noob tool in hopes that it would save his day. Get real. I have been around long enough to know that a toolkit is a effing plague on this community. I hate when noobs come into threads promoting a toolkit when they have no idea how it even works. Get the basics down and understand them. Help people learn. Don't aid in the noobery. This site doesn't exist to make your device cool. It's a place to learn.

What does today's Clockwork Mod update do for us?

Koush twittered that we had a treat coming our way last night. I downloaded the latest update to Clockwork Mod and noticed that when we select a recovery for the Epic it now asks if you have manually installed a version of Recovery and if so it asks what version. Basically, I want to know what this does for us. I know previously if you tried to install a rom from the Rom Manager, it would fail do it automatically and you would have to manually do everything from the recovery. Does this change make the Rom flashing process automated?
v4.0.0.8 is the version I'm talking about.

You obviously like to pick and choose the rules you follow. Isn't "no flaming" part of the guidelines to posting?
But I'm sure you don't need to read the rules atop that high horse of yours.
Last time I checked stating an observation wasn't flaming.
In fact you're actually getting closer to flaming by trying to directly insult me if I want to be pedantic. But I'm not going to argue with somebody on the internet.
Hopefully we can get an official recovery for the epic. I love my wife's recovery amon ra. I wish we could get that.

[Feedback] Any interest in Automated root of stock ROM (w/o ODIN or ROM Flash)?

I have some scripts that I wrote for LG Optimus S to do a fully automated root/unroot of the stock ROM.
I adapted them to work with the Samsung Epic 4G Touch.
This would root the phone using your EXISTING stock ROM. No need to use ODIN or mess with custom recoveries, kernels, or ROMs.
Everything would be your existing stock (ROM, zImage-kernel+initramfs, etc), except you'd have ROOT, so it shouldn't suffer from LOS (unless you had LOS with stock to start with)
Looking for feedback. If there is any interest I can clean it up and post the package.
EDIT:
Here you go:
[ROOT][EG30] Automated root of your existing stock ROM (w/o ODIN or ROM Flash)
Let me know if there are any problems and I will try and fix them quickly.

I could see interest in something like this.
I recall multiple threads asking "will the epic touch ever get a more conventional root?" so if you can pull it off I could definitely see the demand.
I remember reading about this root method on the AC forums. I wouldn't be interested myself, as I want more from a rooted device, but I'd imagine there would be a reasonable number of people who only want root for wifi tethering and certain apps that require it and don't care about custom recovery and kernels/ROMs.
Ill be the first to test it.

I don't think it's too confusing, I just don't want to have to flash ANYTHING to get root. I have had ZERO problems with my phone. Not a single LOS, no random game closes, nothing. I don't want to risk flashing a kernel, even the stock pulled, and potentially stirring something up and having to deal with LOS and whatever else. Not worth it to me.

Assuming you install "adb" on Mac, you can use the (included) manual rooting instructions (see Reference Section B)
It should be much simpler than other manual instructions as you still are getting 95% of the automation through scripts. Just a little typing to kick things off.
I would test it.

Probably not a big deal for many folks on XDA, but this method will NOT trigger the Yellow Triangle nor will it increase your ODIN flash count.
There are, of course, ways to address those annoyances when using other methods.
There is a software fix for yellow triangle which should account for most sprint stores but I always welcome more solutions

I found a conventional root. Google "doomlord root" or http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...-anything-try-doomlords-easy-rooting-toolkit/
It works perfectly for the epic touch. No flashing required. I used it because i wanted full control but loved stock.

[Q] Extra special BRICK on my nexus.

Hi.
I think I done enough damage on my nexus today.
I give up and tomorrow I will tried again. I hope you can help me.
I am willing to pay any one how can help me.
Here is my problem.
First mistake was that I didn't do backup file! Why I didn't do this? Because I already lost my app, date etc. because of my nexus suddenly stuck in start open mode.
That I decided, because I lost everything on my nexus that I will root and unlock nexus. BIG MISTAKE.
1. Everything looks ok, I use galaxy nexus root toolkit v.1.4.
2. I fallow every step
3. My nexus was unlock and root
4. That I went to Google play and download app add free to see if I was successful
5. So far I was
6. Then I read that is got to have on franco.Kernel updater (I bought that on google play for 2,05 €)
And then my nexus shut down and since that I cannot reboot him. The first was showing google on the black screen with unlock sign.
Than i tried to unlocked with root toolkit v.1.4. and i did that.
But then I was stuck on black screen with google sign.
Then I tried odin3 and on ¾ of process everything stopped.
In the end...Now it only showing mobile mark/yellow triangle with exclamation mark/pc...like is something wrong with connection phone to pc.
I can't go to any mode if I press power button + volume up and down because is only show this problem with connection.
And my pc don’t recognized nexus and in device manager I don’t have any adroid drives installed.
Please help me. Please!
I tried everything a known.
Best regards from Croatia.

All Odin did, is what I would have done. It just re-flashed the OS onto your phone, that's what Odin does

So phone is rooted with CWM.. Got system update and went to install now and it rebooted,, It went into CWM and it sayd package failed, it will nto update.. any ideas? Help!!!
Thanks
Phone is Stock Rooted with CWM
You have to be on stock firmware(no root, busybox, or cwm/twrp) and have stock recovery, otherwise the install will fail.
Use the search button.
As a summary if you have a custom recovery, you can't install system updates.

You didn't flash an image. That's why people who don't know what they're doing shouldn't use toolkits. Follow the stickies at the top of this section.

I know how to use a toolkit properly, but i don't know whay that happened, either way, your reply its the example why people like you shouldn't have an account on xda, if you are on a Q&A thread, just reply to help, not to act like you are something like the top android dev

1) he told you what to do
2) since you just told him to piss off for giving you an answer, but good luck getting more help.
3) do you know what the toolkit did? I can guess what it did but have no idea what it failed.
4) flash things manually and you now where the failure point is

The failure point was, as I said, the lack of an image to flash. He basically wiped everything and flashed nothing but a radio. No image = no boot.

because you used a toolkit, which does all the work for you..
Like he said, it is much more complicated to know what happened (yes!! We don't know too!!). Was it the toolkit? Was it because you're on windows or scripts often don't supply enough info on what went wrong, if any at all? Do you even know where does system.img comes from?
Start fresh by reading how Google tells you to flash a factory image. Then read the stickies, and not the toolkit one.

I DID go back and watch the screenshot again!
I would prefer OP learned a little bit more about his device and why Google considers it a Nexus.

OP's right. I OBVIOUSLY don't belong on XDA. I mean it took me a whole second to figure out the root of the problem. No pun intended.
