Ballistic cases are usually pretty good quality, love the one I got on my gs3. Just finding it weird that ballistic isn't listing these cases on their website tho, hell the nexus 5 isn't even an option.

Hey guys, I've been searching around and I can't find a definite answer. How much thicker is the Aegis compare to the Tough? I know the CM Tough doesn't cover the ports while the Aegis does. I have the TPU S, Casemate Pop, as well as the Bodyglove kickstand case currently.
aegis
Ive been running trident aegis for 5 months now. Its flat out amazing! It has flip open covers for usb and 3.5mm head phone jack. the phone is 150% protected. I have 4 batteries and 2 wall chargers so i remove the case daily for 5 months now and its still 99.9% new. Worth the money plus its tough and looks amazing
I actually just switched from the Aegis and went with the Casemate Tough Case. The Aegis, although a great case, was bugging me with it's thickness, super rubbery grip (hard to put into and pull from pockets), and the port covers irritated me too.
The Casemate has awesome grip without being sticky like the Aegis, it's definitely thinner and it feels SOOO much better in my hands. I'm pretty sure I'll be sticking with the Casemate for a long time.
maybe Ill sell the Aegis
Im using the aegis and the rubber isnt sticky. I like it but it does make the phone a bit thicker

I've used both the casemate and aegis extensively, and I'd have to say the casemate feels nicer and more premium overall. It offers the same protection with a slimmer profile.
However, the reason I got the aegis in the first place was because I got bored of the lack of color on the casemate.
At the moment, I'm using my basic TPU matte back black because it seems to be enough protection for work and I slip the casemate on when I head for the outdoors.
If you are into winter sports like snowboarding, I would get the aegis, because I lost my phone on the slope once and looking for a black case was challenging to say the least. The bright blue/red of the aegis would stand out easily against the snow.

I just ordered a casemate tough to replace my aegis so I will get pics up later thsi week if you are still deciding. I love the Trident case but lately it has been turning the phone off in my pocket. Apparently the power button works too good so a bit of pressure from normal activities is holding it down and turning off the phone.
Also, the Casemate Tough Case is $35 on their site. On Amazon brand new it's $18. BUT, I bought mine "open box" with a "like New" rating for $8 on Amazon! Those cheapy flexible TPU cases are more expensive than that.
It got shipped to me in it's original packaging and in brand new, flawless condition.

Cool casemate should be in tomorrow, I have tpu cases as well so I will take a few shots of all 3 together.
Case just came in and here are some side by side pics
Left to right trident aegis, casemate, tpu case
The casemate is basically right between the size of both cases. The main differences between it and trident is that the ports are not covered. Also the corners are hard plastic on casemate and soft rubber on Trident.
Specs
Threw in "penny factor" for reference... (b/c not everybody carries a caliper and scale in their back pocket )
Penny thickness: 3.5mm
Penny weight: 0.1oz
Phone weighs 4.6oz naked.
Notes:
Aegis is a little wider towards the top where the buttons are - 79.50mm
Corner protection - Aegis is thicker and is all rubber; Tough Case is thinner and a combination of plastic over rubber. The Aegis design relies on the thick rubber corners to absorb the shock whereas the Tough case relies on the shell distributing the load on the thinner rubber. Hard to tell which is better for corner drops (which is usually how/when screens are most likely to shatter - load concentrated over a small area) without some destructive testing. I can say that I've dropped the phone several time on hard warehouse floors from chest height with the Aegis with no issues.
Overall Protection - IMO, the Aegis provides a better overall protection due to the thicker rubber (at the corners as well as overall), hard case wrapping over the top and bottom (unlike the Tough Case) and port protection.
Screen protection ("lift") on the Tough Case is slighter higher.
Tough Case is much easier to get in and out of pocket.
Buttons on the Tough Case are flush; On the Aegis, the buttons protrude a little causing accidental power-ons.
Final thoughts:
Was using Aegis as my daily but am switching to Tough Case due to smaller size, lighter weight and ease of getting in and out of the pocket. Will keep Aegis for the weekend outdoor excursions. Both are quality cases.

Exactly the reason I just bought casemate. Also the power button on the Aegis stuck out farther and my pocket was turning off phone or waking it up with certain lockscreens.
I m on my third otterbox defender case (they send them to you by mail if you have problems). With all of them the outer rubber sleeve has stretched so that it no longer stays in the grooves.
So I am looking for a new case. I could use some suggestions.
Thanks.

I've been using the OtterBox Commuter Series since I got the phone. No issues so far.
Urban Armor Gear. By far the best case for the GS3 if you are looking for protection without adding thickness to the phone. You can find about 1,250 posts regarding this case here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1826668

I'm on my second defender for the same reason. Commuter is the way to go.

Seidio ACTIVE with kickstand
This Seidio case is the one I use. I've dropped it several times, and it has a few nicks and scuffs on it. Love it, though, as it is very durable, and seems to maintain its fit very well.
Also, the white/black case looks really nice with my white SGS3.
I use an Aduro hardshell case with kickstand, it's awesome. I've dropped it plenty of times and not a scratch on it!
Do you use any cleaners on your Defender? I have run into problems with using plastic cleaners (even good ones like Plexus!) with some phone cases where it allows it to become too soft and stretches it.

Me too. I even somehow cracked the shell part and they sent me a new one. I haven't opened it yet.
Stretched out cases are a problem in the materials i think. I've saw it on my Captivate, Inspire, and now S3. But they keep replacing, so I'll keep using. I haven't really saw or heard of a sturdier case, short of the new Armor series.
i've always used case-mate's "tough case" on my galaxy phones. great protection while still remaining slim. also, otterbox has the new reflex case. i would recommend that one as well. slim and tough. you can find both on amazon for around $20. cheers

Commuter in black, Commuter in white, and Spigen Ultra Thin Air...
Otterbox Defender. Since they replace it once it stretches out with no problems I will continue to use it.
My defender silicon case has stretched out before. I simply placed in boiling water (OFF THE BURNER) for exactly thirty seconds. Remove it with tongs and quickly, yet gently dry it off. Mold it to the plastic case and place it in the fridge to cool.
Perform at your own risk. Your experience may vary.
I use the Urban Armor Gear. It is the best case IMO. I had the Otterbox Commuter, and the CaseMate Pop! Nothing beats the Urban Armor Gear. I love how it makes the phone square and flat and not curved. And idk why, but it makes my screen look bigger. It looks huge and bulky in the product photos but it's really thin.
I'm using a Trident Kraken. I love it more than my Defender.

Currently running a black Incipio silicrylic. Yesterday I purchased a black UAG based on the reviews of it and it should be here tomorrow.
I use a Seidio Surface case and love it. It's a hard shell, but not so thick that it can't be used in some docks. Soft-touch coating so it's easy to grip. And it has cutouts around the buttons (I like using the actual buttons on the phone, not the crappy ones that most cases include). The only downside is it's TOUGH to get off if you don't know the trick (apparently, I can't vouch for that since I STILL can't do it easily).

I have the defender as well. I also notice the rubber stretching a little bit. Once it gets a little more noticeable I will ask otterbox to replace it. They have great customer service. I experienced this with the galaxy nexus defender case as well. They sent me 3 replacements before I gave up and settled with the commuter for the nexus.
So long as they continue to send replacements, I'll continue to take advantage of it. Personal opinion they should really make the rubber last longer. My defender for my captivate lasted almost two years before I replaced the phone. The case still fits perfect to this day. Something happened within the last few years with otterboxs rubber casing for the defender. Whatever they have changed since the captivate has not worked out very well.

In addition, if I were to try a different case, it would be the pure gear dual tek case. I've read good things about it!

Otterbox commuter with a brand new one at work still in box. My 2 year old child has chucked my phone over and over without any damage. Otterbox for life!
What are the current options for rugged cases which make this phone (almost) indestructible?
The i-Blason Armorbox is about the best I've seen, not too expensive too http://amzn.to/1bvBZc7
The Ballistic and Seidio cases aren't out yet, but they're going to be pretty indestructible.
I am currently using the Acase Superleggera and it's pretty beefy. Silicone core + polycarbonate shell like the Ballistic case, but no grippy corners or back so it's still pretty pocket friendly. Downside is no built-in screen protector. Feels very well made, and has already saved my phone from a 5' drop on to concrete.
This has been the only thing keeping from making the plunge on this phone.
I learned a long time ago to make sure a rugged case was available before getting a new phone.
Otterbox is not going to support it (what a surprise), so I am waiting for the next-best thing to hit the market.
The Ballistic cases look promising.
if we don't get otterbox I hope we get trident case at least
Do you guys think the "cruzerlite" video of the drop test is fake?
In my opinion, it is fake because the camera cuts out everytime they show the slow motion replay.
I'm using the Sigen slim armor check it out on eBay or amazon feels pretty dam good check it out

Anybody have an opinion on these cases? I found two I really like but I want some feedback before I purchase.

AWESOME case. Built way better than an Otterbox defender (the only thing that isn't as good is probably the warranty policy; they don't advertise it nearly as much as OB about being hassle-free, but perhaps it is- I haven't needed to ever exchange a case.)
It certainly adds lots of bulk so be aware of that...
Here are a few pics-
Buy them! Ballistic protects your phone phenomenally. Personally, I have never dropped my phone yet, but from what I have seen, the Ballistic cases can shield the phone from 7ft+ drops.
I bought the Maxx, which is essentially the same, but comes with a built-in screen protector.
Amazon indeed does have some great deals on these cases. I got the Maxx for $27 (plus shipping) and I saw the standard for around $20.
Be aware of the amount of bulk this case adds to your phone. This case is probably the chunkiest case out there for the Nexus. However, I don't mind because it keeps my phone safe. The case is also a lint magnet, so you would probably have to clean it everyday if you collect tons of dust in your pocket.
Thanks for your input guys!
I see them on sale at PureMobile currently. Might spring for the black Shell Gel one after hearing these great reviews. I am hoping I become an Otterbox convert haha!
I noticed some knock offs out there in the market. Are they made from Ballistic or just ones rejected in production?
Lovin my SG case too btw.

Really like the dust filters!
but the case is a magnet for dust

Very good protection, but like the trident the case catches some dust if you put it into the pocket or something....
I don't know about the Trident, but on the ballistic, the silicone becomes more smooth with use, and no longer attracts dust so much.

Yes you are right, with use the case becomes more smooth and nice to work with....
