Really like the dust filters!
but the case is a magnet for dust

Very good protection, but like the trident the case catches some dust if you put it into the pocket or something....
I don't know about the Trident, but on the ballistic, the silicone becomes more smooth with use, and no longer attracts dust so much.

Yes you are right, with use the case becomes more smooth and nice to work with....

I used an Otterbox Commuter on my Dell Streak and definitely liked the extra protection, but the plastic part doesn't cover all the silicon and it was impossible to get in and out of my pocket and attracted lint like crazy. I've seen Speck candy shell cases for other phones which look awesome, sadly none for the Captivate. Anyone know of a similar case that works for us Captivate owners?
Have you looked at the seido active x case?

You could try Seidio Active X, I have one and it gives protection on the phone. Feels a little bulky but nevertheless, solid product.

It's not a hard plastic on the outside but I personally love the Amzer TPU Case. It doesn't attract lint and is in between a hard and soft plastic. Fits perfectly and doesn't add any bulk.
Hi guys,
I bought the galaxy nexus.
since i'm in the millitary I want to protect the phone perfectly and I though about the otterbox defender.
BUT I've seen on youtube a video that shows how the case scratchs the top of the device, the bottom and around the front camera.
I wanted to know if there is someone here has the case and could recommend me buying this or not.
thanks
Because the defender's inner frame is hard plastic, debris like sand and dust can become lodged between the frame and the device, causing scratches.
The otter box commuter has a silicon inner layer, and won't have this issue.
If you want a case LIKE the defender, maybe the trident krakken case will work? Its very similar to the defender.

but the commuter doesnt protect the screen..:/
I bought a OtterBox Defender based on my good experiences with OtterBoxes for iPhone.2 weeks into owning the case,I decided to remove it and found that a lot of dust got accumulated in the the case and the phone was scratched at the top.Not only that,I found out that the plastic frame of the screenguard had broken on one side.I'd advise you to not buy the Defender, instead something like the Trident Kraken.

That ballistic shell case looks pretty good. The Seidio Active is another great case( http://www.seidioonline.com/samsung-galaxy-nexus-active-case-black-p/csk3ssgnlk-bk.htm).I haven't used it though.
Thanks for this thread. I was going to buy one as I do for all of my phones. Bet I've owned six defender cases.
After reading this and the reviews on otterbox.com I think I'll buy a trident case.
I had a ballistic on the infuse I had. Was a nice case.

I used the ballistic sg case on my gs2, and my Galaxy Nexus. I was happy with the case. I decided to slim down, so I went with a tpu case.

Balistic cases dont have the port covers, which is a must for me.
The Defender was my first case, I was told in the VZW store that it might scratch the phone due to trapped dust, but it was better than nothing on day 1. I liked it alright but after a few months the clips started breaking, I bought the Kraken as a replacement.
The Kraken is an alright case, a little bulkier than the defender. I liked that it offered the same protection as the Defender, I disliked how the front LED was half covered. In the end - it was too bulky for me to keep it on forever, I would still use it if I wanted some super extra duty protection.
So I got the Commuter, I have had Commuters for my Captivate and Atrix so I am familiar with their design and function. The gnex Commuter is the same as past Commuters, if you've had one before you know how it works. (This is not true for the Defender) I've had the Commuter on for the past 6-8 months and will not be switching again. It DOES protect the screen to an extent, I have dropped my phone allot and there are no blemishes on the phone or screen or Commuter. I do have a Zagg applied, not the protector that comes with the OB. If I had it to do over I would have bought the commuter first and it would have been the only case I needed. It offers plenty of protection with minimal bulk.
Hi, i wanna buy a case for the s3,
i'm Debating between 3 case,
1.speck candy shell
2.otterbox
3.Case Mate Tough
I'd like to hear the Advantages and Disadvantages of each
tnx!
I have owned the otterbox defender and the commuter series. I am much happier with the commuter. It has a dual layer and the exposed layer is hard which I like better because the defender series had a soft shell that streched out and looked bad. Plus the commuter series is much smaller. It feels less bulky and mire high end.

No for otterbox defender, it streches pretty easily

so what yes?
some one told me not for the otterbox becuse it's scrath, the other one told me that is good case.
someone else wrote not for the speck candy i'm Confused more than before
I am assuming you have already looked at the UAG case. If not, definitely check it out. I have a few friends that switched from Otterbox to the UAG and they love it. Good luck
no, i didn't hear about UGA
but he looks a very "massive" case and uncomfortable to carry the s3, put hin in the pocket etc
Not the case at all.
Not nearly as bulky as you'd think, and slides easily in and out of your pocket.
Great protection as well.
Does it have to be drop protection case?
Ive had quite a few. My fav as of now is the zoogue tpu, seidio surface, podera transformer case

Check out the Case Mate Phantom. It's a bit sleeker than the Otterbox but just as protective.

Griffin Survivor for drop protection and true dust protection. Mine stays on my hip crawling in basements, crawlspaces and attics everyday. Take the case off and still looks brand new.
Or wait for the Otterbox Armor series... Said to be "this spring", I ain't holding my breath for it though.

This looks like the answer to everyone who's looking for an Otterbox type case. Hopefully there won't be any issues, it looks solid. I just got my temporary case 2 days ago, but I'm ready to order to bad boy.

Ballistic cases are usually pretty good quality, love the one I got on my gs3. Just finding it weird that ballistic isn't listing these cases on their website tho, hell the nexus 5 isn't even an option.
I am looking for a rugged case that can stand up to outdoor activities.
I tried the Trident Aegis, I really like the design, but the thing is super linty. It's insane how much lint this thing attracts.
The otterbox Commuter is ok, but it is almost too slick and doesn't seem like it would stand up to fall terribly well.
What other cases should I be looking at to try?
Take a look at the Ballistic SG or the Seidio Dilex - I had the Ballistic on my old RAZR and the rubber corners do cushion falls well. Right now I have the Seidio on my X and other that the kickstand being kind of a "wart" on the the back it seem like a really nice case.
All cases that use silicone will attract lint, but the cushioning it provides is much better than TPU or other plastics. That's why I put up with it.

I also have a Seidio Dilex on my Moto X, and really wish they would offer it WITHOUT the stupid kickstand. Some people may appreciate it, but I don't count myself among them.
I had a Ballistic SG Maxx on a Nexus 5 and found the plastic exoskelaton far too slippery for my taste.

I have the same love/hate thing with silicone as most people, love the shock absorbtion, hate the lint/tackiness, so damned hard to get a phone in a silicone skin or a case with exposed silicone into a pocket quickly, but TPU has zero shock absorbing capabilities in comparison. Has anybody tried the Air Jacket Grip by Power Support on the moto maker site? What about the InCase Snapcase?
