[Solved!]Phone acting weird. a little help? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so my phone is acting a little weird
Here's the issues i have
Rotation animation is gone
[*]Trying to record in 720p causes huge slowdown+ corrupted video (Regardless of kernel 480p or 720p)
On a Any GB rom my phone acts up. at first i thought it was a rom issue so i tried multiple other GB Roms, The problem still persist. So i tried multiple kernels and the same problem occurs BUT the one thing i noticed is that when i take the phone 100% back to factory mode (stock verizon rom @ GB ver. 2.3.3) via flashtool it acts as its supposed to no issues... this issue is even beyond me i dont get it of know whats the reason

Maybe sdcard error? Or broken media files
Try different sd card, or mount and scan it with window's scandisk or backup/format/restore sdcard
Are there any files in LOST.DIR folder in sdcard?

Cannot record with the camcorder anymore

Hi all,
something strange is happening with my Desire.
I was running Leedroid 1.9a when I followed this advice: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7856537#post7856537
and since then, "fun" things are happening with my Desire.
- After the first reboot, when I tried the camera, I noticed I couldn't record. I start the camcorder, focus the camera on something and press the optical trackball... but nothing happens. The settings menu on the left, the album icon, and the flash icon... disappear, but not counting how long I am recording, nothing. It doesn't record at all... After some time after I hit home (cannot go "back", I have to hit home) the phone restarts
- So, I tried installing a new ROM (PaysDesire 2.0), tried downgrading the Radio from version 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 to version 32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20... still is the same. When I changed the ROMs, I did full wipe/clean cache/clean dalvik cache/format sd-ext, and then I didn't restore anything. Still the camcorder doesn't work (camera works for taking pictures, just no video).
Any advice?
Thanks.
Sounds like the camcorder is having difficulties writing to the SD card. The file system may have become partially corrupted.
Reformat the memory card or try a new card to eliminate this as a possible cause.
I took my brothers microsd card, and the camcorder started working, so I'm convinced that is the problem.
I don't know if the card is defected or just corrupted, but I may try to reformat it before getting a new one
Thanks.
Also if you're recording HD video, I believe you need to have the latest radio installed.
Yes, I do try to record HD and have the latest radios, but I also tried recording a low quality video (the lowest in the list) but the camcorder app freezes and I have to reboot the phone.
Trying to reformat now, will tell how it goes
By the way, what do you guys think about a A-DATA 8GB Class 6, or PQI 8GB Class 6? Which one would you choose?

You are welcome. Glad it worked.
It seems I cannot even reformat the card from my PC. I put it on the card reader, but the PC fails to detect it (wanted to backup the files, that is why I didn't format it from phone).
Will try some more, and then will try to format it from phone.
Still waiting for suggestion should I get the A-DATA or the PQI (both are 8GB size and Class 6).
Thanks.
Changing ROMs on the phone is what I think corrupted the card in the first place, it's not so much corrupted - but inappropriate in it's current state, ergo formatting from the device with the current ROM should work fine.
There is a built in system to disregard damaged blocks that will sort itself out during the format. If you change ROM again you might need to re-format again. Thats just my opinion though, call it a theory.
As for your other question... I can't help you, I think it's a personal preference. Maybe ask the question as a new thread in another section.
The camcorder stopped working before I changed the ROM, so that cannot be the case.
I changed the ROM thinking it would fix the camcorder problem
Maybe editing that file caused this corruption... or the card simply stopped loving me anymore

[Q] Can a bad SD card cause fuzzy photos?

My wife and I have Droid Incredibles. Mine is taking really good pictures and hers is taking really bad pictures. It's not operator error as I use her phone and get the same results. Plus they didn't use to be so bad.
I've tried cleaning the camera lens and I've tried using different camera apps and get the same results.
Her phone does have some SD card issues as the pictures will disappear from the stock gallery app. QuickPic can find them though.
The main difference between her phone and mine is the rom. She's stock and I'm rooted with a custom ROM.
Can a bad SD card cause fuzzy pictures? Or can a new ROM make the camera work dramatically better?

I'd say probably the rom. the issues in the gallery is probably a cache issue with the rom as well
Have you tried using her sd card in your phone to see if that happens to you? If its not writing to the memory properly then the issue would happen on your phone as well with her sd card.
Try copying the contents of the sd card onto a computer then reformat the sd card to FAT32. If it still fails then I'd go ahead with Shano's steps above. I'm not sure it would resolve anything though.

Yeah try swapping the SDs see if that makes a difference. I've never heard of something like that with an SD card, but it is possible theres something on it thats corrupt which cause gallery not to want to show your pictures. A format like SlimSnoop suggested is a little safer than rooting and installing a custom rom, so I would do that too. And make sure to only copy the files back on the sd card that you use, to insure you don't copy something corrupt
Thanks all. I'll try the SD card and see what happens.
Since her rom is official, I'd hate to think it's screwed up. But if all else fails, I'll put CM7 on her phone.

[Q] Cyanogenmod inverted storage on computer

I've been using CM10 and now 10.1 for a while now. I like it alot but im having a little issue...
I've searched XDA and found a couple of mention of this issue but no workaround or more info than the usual "yes, i'm also having this issue".
When i connect my phone to the computer, the SD card and internal storage are inverted, yet they report proper sizes.
I wouldnt mind if it was only a cosmetic issue, however i'm having issues copying files on my internal memory because my SD Card is full...
For exemple... when i plug my phone i see "SD Card" with 346mb free out of 59.4gb (using a 64gb sdcard) and i see Internal memory as 8.41gb free out of 12gb. If i want to copy a file that is bigger than 350mb on my internal memory, i have to go into "SD Card" and copy it there and then it fails to copy saying there isnt enough free space.
So yeah, while the cosmetic inversion doesnt bother me, the fact that it's checking for the required free-space in the wrong place before copying is a bit annoying.
I'm using my SD Card for music storage, i like to keep things separated and well sorted... so right now, my solution is to delete enough stuff on my SD Card so that it has more free-space than the files i want to copy on my internal storage
Any workaround other than that?

I'm not sure if there's a workaround but you could try mounting through recovery?
It sounds like a ROM problem, did you clean flash CM10.1?

I did do a clean flash. Over the holidays, i played around with AOKP and CM10.1 as i had issues getting my Wifi to work on CM10.1 and AOKP was working fine (ended up breaking in AOKP after the holidays too, had to change my router's setting from simple WPA to WPA2, but thats another story). So while playing around, i ended up wipping the phone a few times.
Sadly, i don't remember if the issue was also present in AOKP or if it was just CM10.1
I'm using TWRP, nothing shows up on my computer when i plug the phone while running TWRP. So i'm not sure...
Just for reference, here's two other posts with the same issue, both on CM10.1:

I'm not having this issue on AOKP, like I mentioned, it could be ROM specific.
As for TWRP, there should be a mount option.

Yeah, im pretty sure its ROM specific too...
For TWRP, there is a mount button, but it doesnt seem to be there for USB mounting. I couldnt find the option to mount anything on USB...
I backed up everything and ill do a complete wipe now, just to see if it fixes it...

Mount storage perhaps? Or mount internal/external.
I'm downloading a big file right now so I can't check but will check later if you haven't got it.

Well good sir, it seems like your initial assessment was quite correct. After wiping everything (Factory, cache, dalvik, format internal) and re installing CM10.1 latest nightly, my issue is fixed.
Now im reloading everything using Titanium Backup, hopefully i get all my settings back, without restoring the issue...
Thanks alot!

[Q] Media reading issues.

Ok so I have a problem with some roms reading my SD properly on boot. No idea if it's a hardware or rom issue. Basically my ringtones and all will be set as UNKNOWN on boot. My music will also not appear in any media programs. At one point the problem wasn't happening on one of the tested roms but then after a 4th reboot it happened again.
The issue exists on,
Slimkat 7.0 and 9.0 (4.4.4)
SlimLP
Unofficial Cyanogen 12
LiquidSmooth Lolipop
It works properly on
CM11 nightly 2014/12/30
OctoOS Kitkat
Is the issue the roms or my phone? Is my SD+SIM reader dying? It doesn't seem to be an issue on CM11 but these other roms it is an issue. I have to test more of them to be sure. I don't want to replace the reader or the SD card if it's not a hardware issue. I will update my post with more tested roms on the issue. I didn't notice anything like it until trying slimkat and no one in the rom thread knows why it's happening so far.
It seems like any AOSP rom works fine. Not sure if all these ones with the issue are non AOSP.
This happens with all SD cards in your phone?
Unfortunately I don't have another to try but this SD card seems to work in other devices 100% properly. I'm starting to think it's some kind of permissions issue with these roms. Maybe something isn't being giving permissions properly for writing/reading to SD.
Since it works on CM11, the problem exists not just on CM-based ROMs. I don't think any special permissions are needed to read or write to an SD card unless you're trying to install apps to the SD card.
Have you tried any CAF-based ROMs. Not sure if there are any for the s3.
I would try a different SD card to see what happens. If the same thing happens, then it's a ROM issue. If not, it's an SD card issue.

But the problem DOES exist on CM12. it's in my list of roms with the issue. I have tried the SD card in other devices and it works but I don't have another SD to try in this specific phone. Plus I have become happy with CM11. I want to go on a limb and say it is a permissions issue with specific roms not getting permissions for my SD card properly. But there is nothing I can do right now to check as I only have 1 micro SD around.
CM11 and CM12 use very different kernels.
I have never seen an option to grant permissions to read/write to an SD card. What are you using to view your SD card's files? Have you tried different kernels with your favourite ROM? Have you tried different file managers?
I have a note 2 where the SD card will not work with some custom CM12 ROMs but it does on CM11, AOSP, and CM10.2 ROMs.
See that is the weird thing. All file manager programs find the files 100% perfectly. The file manager could even play the songs in the default music player. And it is only music files from what I can tell. Videos show up in MX player instantly on boot and pictures are loaded in rather fast by QuickPIC and the regular gallery upon boot. It's only music related files seemingly. At one time Amazon app store was having issues with games that were located on the SD card as well but that issue went away with a reinstall of the amazon app store. So it specifically became MP3 files for the issue. Those of course are also what my ringtone and message tones are. I did not however try other Kernels. The only thing I did try was updating my modem which I noticed was way older than it should have been because some roms couldn't get service. Of course that works now. My logic was the SIM and SD are on the same panel so maybe the modem has firmware for the whole thing. Didn't solve the issue but solved another.
So other Kernels? No. File manager? Works 100%
Crazy weird. The issue you are experiencing is one of the reasons some users tick with stock ROMs.
Hopefully, you will find a suitable solution. If you are able to solve the issue, post your solution as other XDA members may experience the same issue in the future.
Well I was able to solve it by finding a rom that didn't have the issue. The issue only started occuring on roms that were 4.4.4 and 5.0.x. Except for the two I listed at least. The suitable workaround is to put ringtones on the SD card but sometimes my music still won't show in Amazon Cloud player or the default music player. So CM11 seems to be pretty stable for the problem but CM12 was not. If it is a kernel problem I hope more people discover the issue so it can be fixed. The only tweak I had to do to make CM11 usable so far was to change the libc.so file with an older one because it was breaking Puzzle and Dragons.

Unexpected removing SD

Hi there,
I'm having issues with continues in expicted removing SD notification. Is this a hardware failure?
Haven't dropped my phone and this msg started showing after the new update 1.95.401.4
Copy all the data to your PC, format the card in the phone, copy your data back. This is a very common issue and we'll documented here. The issue should go away until you flash another ROM or major update.

Have been battling with this for a long time..
Things I've done.
Completely updated firmware.
Removed encryption.
Changed roms.
For me I don't get this issue on venom, not sure why but it's possible that it's simply luck and just kernel related.
Only happened for me on Leedroids rom which is a shame as it's a superb rom.
The probability is its either your card (most likely) or the combination of rom and kernel.
I'd advise you to do what you can before you rma your card.
Connect your card directly into a computer.
Format the card using a utility called SD formatter, use the long method, more thorough..
Flash a rom which has a stock kernel and see how you go..
Beyond that you could remove encryption and or try different kernels, some have the issue more than others.
Good luck.
Continue to get this myself. Try a smaller SD.

Thanks for answering me.. I fixed it by formatting the SD and merged the internal with external memory. I'm having no issues right now.

I would do that but what happens between rom flashes?? Does the bind of internal get lost? Have you switched Rom's?
