HELP! ANY one else having SD problems after Flashing ROMs

The first week i had the phone i was not rooted and all was well
Then i rooted and flashed a ROM thats when the problems started:
The Problem
~SD card will intermittently will not be readable sometimes in-part or in whole.
~Some time the photo album will say "SD Card unmounted"
~I can how ever reboot and all is well for about 3 attempts of accessing the SD (either by Astro, Gallery, Touitour, or BW pulling skin info off card) then it breaks
~Have tried putting the card in to my PC and i can read it all day long.
~When I conect via usb to view SD card i get the same problems as above
~Using the stock 8g that came with my phone
What i have done
~wipe SD from PC-no help
~wipe SD from Phone-no help
~Flashed 4 diffrent ROMs- no help (and yes i wiped EVERY thing and even tried to reflash)
~Did the "fastboot SD card fix" from XDA forums- no help
~Ask for help with in threads- no help
~Tried a old 2g card-no help
So please help i am getting no where with this...this phone is very frustrating with out SD
*note i have not unlocked Nand yet...

i'm having the same problem you are having, my first rom (bugless v.3 ) was very good, then i flash to bugless v.4 i didn't like and when this is were my problem began. Not saying that bugless rom affected my microsd but after flashing to v.4 now every rom i flash i'm having the same problem. Everything works fine the first few minutes after flashing but then the problem persist. My evo is perfect but now it seems i have to return this to best buy and get a new one before my 30 days is up.
any fix on this

I had same issue. For whatever reason, mine is fine at the moment after flashing the latest damage rom. One thing I did notice, was after opening astro browser, the card would have issues. I had both astro, and es file browsers installed. After I flashed the last rom, I did not reinstall the astro, just the es. This is my second day like this and so far so good.
Another possibility is the sd cards themselves are poor quality. One guy in the damageless thread stated he was having these issues until he put a new sd card in

I bought a 8gb sd card from best buy that came with a USB reader, right clicked on the drive in my computer and chose format, with FAT32, and not the quick format option, phone works fine ever since. maybe just a bad SD card for us? The one with the phone even after I try and format it causes problems but the one thats from best buy is great.

SD Card issues after flashing to froyo

I flashed my uk defy to the nordic 2.2.2 rom after hearing good things about it. Since flashing my phone kept freezing and switching off for no reason, so I did a couple of resets that didnt fix the problem....
I noticed that the crashes were happening whenever the sd card was being accessed for a bit (e.g. looking at the gallery). I reformatted the card a few times but it still kept crashing. It had never crashed on 2.1 that I had been using before. The card is a 16gb class 10 which worked fine on my old desire which was on 2.2.
Anyway, I transferred all my stuff to my older 4gb class 6 and everything has been working great since (the nordic rom is very nice and smooth).
Has anybody else had sd card issues on their defys? I'd quite like to use my 16gb card...

i had the same issues with a 16Gb ADATA class 6 card. The probplems were present under eclair, but it did not freeze the phone. Look at the dmesg output if it has some lines with io error -110 you have the sam problem as me. i changed tha cad to kingson and since then no problem

Ive checked the dmesg output with the card in and it brings back all sorts of errors which are mostly unable to detect errors where the phone just stops detecting everythin from the sensors to the camera to the screen, its ever likely it goes unresponsive. Very odd that the sd card can cause these sorts of issues.

My 4GB card has started to have the same issues now after working ok for a day or two....
I'll post a dmesg log later today as it's on my phone which i can't get to right now.
I've managed to get a log saved with issues concerning the memory card at last, my previous attempts contained hundreds and hundreds of duplicate unable to detect errors.
It seems that the phone stops writing to the card properly, or at all (e.g. when creating thumbnails in the gallery), and then the other issues start.

Same problem here. 16GB ADATA class 6 card, phone freeze after few minutes (PowerAmp player was indexing new music files).
Can anyone check if this issue is solved in CM7? Thanks

Those errors are the same i had with my adata16gb class 6 card. The only solution i have found was replaceing them with a kingston... My card was perfect with my notebook but unusable with my defy. The errors were present under eclair too but froyo seems moch more sensitive to those errors

Yes, I had exactly the same issues with Transcend Class 6 8Gb card. Seemed to work fine for most things but music access caused phone to crash. laptop reads it fine.

Would wiping the card in recovery solve these problems ? I'm having exactly the same right now ?
If wiping doesn't help I would have to get a new sd card. However the error also occurs with my stock 2gb sd card. So I guess it doesn't work because I didn't wipe before flashing.

Hey everyone ! First I swear I don't post this because I'm too lazy to make a proper search, I've been trying to solve my problems for two days...
Ok, I'll try to sum it up. Sorry if my english goes wrong at some point, I'm french.
Having problems with my micro SD in my Desire, I bought a new one, a kingston 8go, class 10.
My desire was under CM7, was S-OFF with a modified HBOOT. And except from bugs due to my SD (sometimes it would not be recognized), everything was working.
After installing the new micro SD, i did some manipulations: wipe, reinstallation, change of radio/RIL/kernel, and unfortunately ended up with no recovery and others bugs. So I decided (at one point I did stupid stuff) to reinstall RUU aaaand as I was S-OFF with a modified HBOOT, I bricked my phone. BUt after some hours and thanks to the forum, I managed to put back a RUU.
Then I did everything properly: ROOT/S-OFF with revolutionary, wipe, micro SD partition, and CM7 installation.
THen it was hell: I tried everything from regular install to legacy2ext and SimplytoExt etc every time it's really unstable. First the all thing is slow, then I can't flash the google apps, no matter what I try. If I install an app from the market, sometimes it works, sometimes it makes the phone reboot from the boot animation, sometimes it can't install etc.. Google maps was especially unstable.
THen, 10 or 20 manipulations, formatting, reinstallations later, I decided to check other rome, like Oxygen or milwild.
On my last Milwild install, everything is fluid but I can't install a single app (it's just stay on "installation" forever) and I can't wake up the screen after the phone goes to sleep.
Last but not least, my usb charger seems to have transfer problems. It's way to slow and the speed is not constant. During large transfers, comes files go corrupted. Am I usb bricked or something? I tried with another micro SD and it's the same problem;
So here I am, I really don't know what to do more? Any help?

Seems that installing a RUU solve all the problems for now, I wonder what in the process of putting a custom ROM could have caused so many differents and random problems. I'am doing the all process again to see if I can do it properly.
And again, I installed a custom ROM with CM7 hbott: impossible to download any app and the camera crashed. Any idea?

1. Don't use any D2EXT scripts with Cm7, obviously that's what caused the issue. If you NEED more space (even with cm7 hboot) try using DarkTremor's A2SD.
2. Before you flash a new ROM, do a FULL wipe (either from fastboot or recovery) - erase boot, system, userdata, cache, sd-ext (make sure you have an EXT-n partition on your sd-card, best program to use is gparted)

Desire is designed for class 4 SD card. Although some class 10's will perform at class 10 levels, many do not because of this. Kingston Class 10 being one example (I have one).
My kingston class 10, in Android, performs at class 6 speeds. Which would be ideal, but my class 10 Kingston was slower with data2sd than my class 4 sandisk.

Ok, I might send it back and change for another model then. But still it can't explain the problems I have

I only was using this script to put the apps on the ext partition and I removed it. It's obviously not the problem since they stayed after a clean install.
I always fo a full wipe, I even formated all the partitions and my EXT partition is there and well aligned.
Here I am: I managed to "stabilise" with a gingerbread RUU, rooted and S-OFF with revolutionary.
I used RM recovery (with USB brick fix) and it seemed to help. I don't have any USB transfer problem any more.
The RUU works like a charm.
Then I tried again to install two customs romq, without any script or modification:
-on Milwild, I have still this "deep sleep" problem. I can use the camera, but I can't install any app from the market. It's stays on "installation" forever.
-On CM7 (I put the CM7r2 HBOOT with it) it starts well: I can install google maps. But then I try to open it and it freezes. Then I try to mount the FAT32 partition on my computer and it doesn't work. The cellphone also freezes when I try to reboot (there is the wheel, turning and turning, but nothing happens). SO I forced reboot, and then, google maps had just ... disappeard. I think my phone is haunted...
Isn't it strange that my cellphone is perfectly normal under RUU but can't bear any custom ROM???
I think I'm gonna go back to the RUU and try to use another SD card but I'm sceptical. If someone has a miraculous idea to share, I'll take it!!!

Well, rootSU, it seemed that you found the answer. I put another class 2 sd card and it seems to work again! I just spent hours on this for nothing... The strangest is that the class 10 card work perfectly when out of my phone...
Any advice about a good class 6/8/10 that could improve the performances without crashing like this?
EDIT: last question, I used the app2sd script you introduced, but I can't install any app with it, it says that I've got unsuficiant stockage space Oo.

I use.my class 10 Kingston and it works perfectly as a class 6. Plus its pretty future proof. Just no.good for data2sd.
Should work fine for everything else though

Well, mine didn't worked at all, except the RUUs...strange! I have fully configured my class 2 SD card with simple2ext (only app on the ext partition, not data) and it works.
As I'm tireless, I'll try to put all this via nandroid on my class 10. If it could work like a class 6...

What did you use to partition the Kingston?

I partitioned it several time, with gparted and recoveries. I'm a bit worried about some part of the hardware managing the connection with the SD card that could be partly broken. I decided to change my first SD card when I first saw a "you need to put an SD card" when I try to take a picture. I had problems with files disappearing from the SD and reappearing. Also I lost some applications that I couldn't appear. I figured the card was dying.
Then I put a new SD card, faster and with larger capacity and everything goes wrong;
Then I put the old one back and... for now, everything works.

My wife and I have Droid Incredibles. Mine is taking really good pictures and hers is taking really bad pictures. It's not operator error as I use her phone and get the same results. Plus they didn't use to be so bad.
I've tried cleaning the camera lens and I've tried using different camera apps and get the same results.
Her phone does have some SD card issues as the pictures will disappear from the stock gallery app. QuickPic can find them though.
The main difference between her phone and mine is the rom. She's stock and I'm rooted with a custom ROM.
Can a bad SD card cause fuzzy pictures? Or can a new ROM make the camera work dramatically better?

I'd say probably the rom. the issues in the gallery is probably a cache issue with the rom as well

Have you tried using her sd card in your phone to see if that happens to you? If its not writing to the memory properly then the issue would happen on your phone as well with her sd card.
Try copying the contents of the sd card onto a computer then reformat the sd card to FAT32. If it still fails then I'd go ahead with Shano's steps above. I'm not sure it would resolve anything though.

Yeah try swapping the SDs see if that makes a difference. I've never heard of something like that with an SD card, but it is possible theres something on it thats corrupt which cause gallery not to want to show your pictures. A format like SlimSnoop suggested is a little safer than rooting and installing a custom rom, so I would do that too. And make sure to only copy the files back on the sd card that you use, to insure you don't copy something corrupt

Since her rom is official, I'd hate to think it's screwed up. But if all else fails, I'll put CM7 on her phone.

heh just cuz its stock doesnt mean its not buggy. I had an issue on stock where i couldn't see app updates in the market until i manually cleared cache, not to mention a bunch of other issues

SD Unexpectedly Removed - NO Remount

Ive searched the forums here as well as google, and find many S3 users facing a Verrrrry similar problem, where their SD card is "Unexpectedly Removed" and then Remounts itself, and the process repeats, causing battery drainage, loss of access to apps etc.. Mostly Related to a SanDisk manufacturing default with certain chips.
My problem however, is slightly unique, in that, mine does not remount itself once it has been "removed". Once physically removed, and checked on a PC, all my files are still there, in working order. Ive Formatted, both "quick" and full format to Fat32, and the card works fine for about an hour to maybe a whole night if Ive done it right before bed. It seems as soon as it starts to be accessed in any way for more than ten minutes, it gets "removed".
Ive tried the following to try and remedy the problem. (Im fairly broke so buying a new card is last resort in my case)
-Both Formats of the card several times.
-Put it in another phone which reads it, format, unmount safely, mount into my phone, and no luck, doesnt even see it
-Factory Reset incase of any bugs in software that may be causing a malfunction of any kind
-Full Wipe X3 + Change of ROM
Im going to be borrowing a friends card for the night tonight, a spare 2GB he has, and see if the phone repeats the error, or if it really is fault of the SD card in question.

Anyone have any ideas as to what may be causing the problem? or does it really sound like the card is at fault? I question this only because the card works elsewhere, and works in my phone for the first little while, with or without files on it, after I format it..
I'll report back about the other card tonight.

Once you report back and if the new card works it sounds like the card. But if the second card fails it sounds like a hardware issue only if you tried different ROMS and kernels and going back to stock by using Odin.
