[Q] Can a bad SD card cause fuzzy photos? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My wife and I have Droid Incredibles. Mine is taking really good pictures and hers is taking really bad pictures. It's not operator error as I use her phone and get the same results. Plus they didn't use to be so bad.
I've tried cleaning the camera lens and I've tried using different camera apps and get the same results.
Her phone does have some SD card issues as the pictures will disappear from the stock gallery app. QuickPic can find them though.
The main difference between her phone and mine is the rom. She's stock and I'm rooted with a custom ROM.
Can a bad SD card cause fuzzy pictures? Or can a new ROM make the camera work dramatically better?

I'd say probably the rom. the issues in the gallery is probably a cache issue with the rom as well

Have you tried using her sd card in your phone to see if that happens to you? If its not writing to the memory properly then the issue would happen on your phone as well with her sd card.
Try copying the contents of the sd card onto a computer then reformat the sd card to FAT32. If it still fails then I'd go ahead with Shano's steps above. I'm not sure it would resolve anything though.

Yeah try swapping the SDs see if that makes a difference. I've never heard of something like that with an SD card, but it is possible theres something on it thats corrupt which cause gallery not to want to show your pictures. A format like SlimSnoop suggested is a little safer than rooting and installing a custom rom, so I would do that too. And make sure to only copy the files back on the sd card that you use, to insure you don't copy something corrupt

Thanks all. I'll try the SD card and see what happens.
Since her rom is official, I'd hate to think it's screwed up. But if all else fails, I'll put CM7 on her phone.

need help flashing rom please

Im sorry, i know this topic has come up a thousand timed but i still have found no solid answer. I am on Wicked rom right now. I went into recovery to flash the new rom but team recovery wont show the zip files on my sd card. After trying some other things and different sd cards in many different sizes and classes,( formated in every ay by phone and computer) now i have noticed nothing including root explorer wont see zip files. sometimes it will show pictures or music but not usually. usually the phone wont even see the card at all. I have heard everything from reformat to the springs that hold the card are worn and need to be bent back to class 10 (which is what I used since i got it) wont work with the s3 to 64 gigs wont work.I should also mention that TWRP wont let me so anything at all. It wont back up rom weather its on internal or external and usually it wont even let me go to external when i try to change it. I don't have enough room on the phone to back up with titanium and TWRP wont t me do a back up either, I am basically stuck on he rom in on with no sd card capabilities. My phone is starting to act up and I really need a new rom ( not that I dont love the Wicked rom) and also get rid of the bugs i'm starting to get. I know this sounds confusing and Im not sure how well I did explaining it but I could really use some help. I have no problem if it would be easier to explain in person if you think you know whats going on or how to fix it you can IM me and I will give you my phone number so we can talk in person. I would really appreciate any help and I will be sure to hit "thanks"
Have you tried a factory reset and see if then the phone can read the sd card?

HMMM try another sd card if you can. I had a similar issue and thought that my phone screwed up but it wasnt my phone it was my sd card. if you dont have another sd card try the one that wont work in the computer and see if your computer reads it.

I have tried a 2 gig 4, 8, 26, 32, and 64, brand new ones, ones I have used to phone to try to reformat, also tried windows 7 to reformat and also Ubuntu partition editor. it seems no matter what I do it just wont see an sd card. every great once and a while it will let me see the pics and music but that it, no Titanium, no recoveries, and especially no zip files with roms. it wont even let me create a nandroid and the ones I have it wont let me get to, I feel like im stuck on this rom with no external mem.
OK seems like you may need a warranty exchange if you have insurance. OK On this phone I noticed that new cwm recovery do nandroid backups on the internal memory. So if you can still mount that to the PC. Put your SD card with an attachment to your PC. Move the backup you made from clockworkmod folder to the clockworkmod in internal memory. If you don't have that folder on internal memory. Moved it all. Newest cwm u can restore a back from internal memory. And there you have it. But if it still can't seem to read the SD card. You may need to have another phone or repair that one.

I use TWRP but with them too you can use either the internal or external. The problem is when I try to put a backup on either on it fails every time. Im gonna to have to just use my warranty and get a new one t looks like. Whats going to happen when they see the phone is rooted, Maybe I should just say I lost it because I would still like to keep the phone in case one day I get really bored and tear it apart (im an electronics tech) and see if I can fix it. IDK, if anyone has any advise I appreciate it. And thanks Gypsy
Thats a lot of money for a lost fee. It would be a lot better if you can brick it. They wouldn't know lol I had done warranty exchanged before with a htc phone with s-off and they never said a thing

[Q] Cyanogenmod SD Card Issue

I've been struggling to find a fully working rom for the HTC One V, it's been frustrating. I can find one that has nearly everything working but 1 thing (like the camera or something) Installed both CM9 and CM10 and both work great and are really fast EXCEPT for one big issue that affects a few things.
Most of the apps can't see the external SD card. The camera tells me to insert an SD card before taking pictures and USB storage just doesn't work unless I unmount the SD card, which doesn't always work.
Anyone else had this issue? Is there a fix? It makes the camera unusable
Have you tried backing up the data on the SD and doing a wipe? Sometimes doing an SD wipe on the phone itself helps

Same with me - m on galaxy grand.. Any fixes ?
Same here
I have the same problem. I just rooted my phone and installed the latest RC version of cyanogenmod. However in the file manager I can see my SD card and look at whats on it but no apps realises that there actually is an SD card. Like described above I can't take any photos, watch pictures from the SD card, or do anything because the rom only states "no storage available". Very weird. I have tried mount the SD card, formatting the SD card, reboot the phone but nothing works! Help anyone?

SD Unexpectedly Removed - NO Remount

Ive searched the forums here as well as google, and find many S3 users facing a Verrrrry similar problem, where their SD card is "Unexpectedly Removed" and then Remounts itself, and the process repeats, causing battery drainage, loss of access to apps etc.. Mostly Related to a SanDisk manufacturing default with certain chips.
My problem however, is slightly unique, in that, mine does not remount itself once it has been "removed". Once physically removed, and checked on a PC, all my files are still there, in working order. Ive Formatted, both "quick" and full format to Fat32, and the card works fine for about an hour to maybe a whole night if Ive done it right before bed. It seems as soon as it starts to be accessed in any way for more than ten minutes, it gets "removed".
Ive tried the following to try and remedy the problem. (Im fairly broke so buying a new card is last resort in my case)
-Both Formats of the card several times.
-Put it in another phone which reads it, format, unmount safely, mount into my phone, and no luck, doesnt even see it
-Factory Reset incase of any bugs in software that may be causing a malfunction of any kind
-Full Wipe X3 + Change of ROM
Im going to be borrowing a friends card for the night tonight, a spare 2GB he has, and see if the phone repeats the error, or if it really is fault of the SD card in question.
Phone Specs
Rogers S3
Running Darth Stalker 4.1.2? and now AoCP_By_The_Collective5.95 4.2.2
Kernel:3.4.53-cyanogenmod-g361781f
SD Card: Lexar 16GB Class 4 Micro SD HC
Anyone have any ideas as to what may be causing the problem? or does it really sound like the card is at fault? I question this only because the card works elsewhere, and works in my phone for the first little while, with or without files on it, after I format it..
I'll report back about the other card tonight.
Any Suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as I cant find this problem solved in any way, anywhere :s
Once you report back and if the new card works it sounds like the card. But if the second card fails it sounds like a hardware issue only if you tried different ROMS and kernels and going back to stock by using Odin.

[Q] SD Card Issues?

Hello everyone,
I just recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4. So far I really like it but I am having a problem. I have a 32 gig sd card plugged in and yesterday I tried putting some files on. Nothing fancy just music, a video, a couple kindle books, and some word documents. I had plugged the sd card into my computer dropped them on and put it back into my device. Well the device wouldn't find or acknowledge any of the files at all. It acted like they just didn't exist. So I plugged the sd card back into my computer and they were there. After a bit of rebooting my device I finally got it to acknowledge the stuff I put on. That lasted until I let the device go to sleep. This morning when I opened up my device everything was gone again. So I plugged it back into my computer and it was all actually deleted.
After that I tried putt stuff on it with the device tethered to my computer and the same thing happened. It wouldn't acknowledge anything kept on my sd card. Including kindle books.
I did some reading and just kept coming up with the kitkat and app compatibility issue that doesn't allow apps to save to sd but this doesn't seem like that. All of those posts seemed to be dated a few months ago so has that been fixed at all or is it still a problem and the only "fix" is rooting it? Is it related to the problem I seem to be having? If not what on earth is worng with it and how do I fix it?
I won't lie I am kind of a newb when it comes to anything beyond basic electronic issues so I really am at a loss for what is wrong with it.
Thank you in advance for any help.
Psylk87
P.s. Should I consider returning this tablet? The stuff I read about the kitkat seems like a huge problem when it has such a small amount of on board space. I have just basic stuff on it and still only have 6 gig on board left over. That means basically all storage will be on an sd card. I bought it to use for college so want to be able to take notes and reliably save stuff. Am I better off with a different tablet? If so what Android tablets would be best?

Any rooted tab is better.. Rooting it will allow you to fix your SD permission woes. More than likely the app you are using can't get access to the SD card thus why it shows up blank. Root the tab, and run the kitkat SD card fix app and never look back. This tab is great!

So basically it will always have the sd card issues thanks to kitkat? I tried opening the music and the video with the devices main video and music apps. But they also weren't showing at all when I went to look for them in the actual "My Files" section. Then when they totally deleted I got even more confused. It was 5 gigs of stuff just randomly deleted off the flash drive.
Is rooting hard? As mentioned I am a newb. I have never done anything like that and I have never used or worked with a rooted device. Won't it void the warranty and make it so I cant return it? It was fairly expensive so I am worried about ruining it haha.
I actually love the tablet so far so really disappointed with the issue. I have until the 14th of August to return it so I need to decide quickly.

Some people on this forum have reported that towelroot works on Tab Pro 8.4. It should be as easy as installing an apk and tapping a button. I already have CM11 installed so I didn't try it though..

Hi
I'm not new in flashing ROMs but I think somewhere I go wrong...
I had the Australian stock ROM and I thought to try a little bit de-bloated ROM to check if its better...
As I'm ALWAYS doing I did make a recovery full backup of my tablet and copied the TWRP Backup in my Ext. SDCard with the intention to move it in my PC for security. Reading how to flash the new ROMs, couple of times have been mentioned that I have to wipe EVERYTHING before I flash them... Against my better judgment I wiped my SDCard too and of course I wiped the new ROM too...
Oh well I thought I will restore my Backup and try again
1) TWRP did NOT read the backup from Ext. SDCard.
2) I d/l an Aussie ROM from SAMIFILES to start again and copy the TWRP Backup in SDCard in case something wrong etc...
Then All Hell Break loose
After Flashing the Full factory ROM I had in my tablet few only apps without ANY Google apps and I couldn't access my Ext SDCard...
When I took out the card to copy it in my PC and from there to tablet the card was corrupted loosing my original Backup...
After that I don't know how many times I've tried factory or XDA ROMs with all the time not able to access my Ext. SDCard (New one, works fine elsewhere) despite I tried ALL the SDFix apps in Playstore... I tried to change the properties of the card manually too but the same...
PLEASE can help me to Fix my Ext SDCard as the tablet is almost useless without it?...
have you tried copying the files to your main memory, then transfer those files from main memory to your memory card using the built in File Manager ?

There is a lot of misinformation and misunderstanding about the SD card permission changes brought by KitKat, and I do not believe the OP's issues are caused by those changes. We are unfortunately to the point where if someone has any trouble at all with an SD, they blame the KitKat permission changes; which is simply false in many cases. The KitKat SD changes have to do solely with write permission access and do not affect the ability to read the SD. The following article explains it well:
http://www.androidcentral.com/kitkat-sdcard-changes
And the KitKat changes certainly would not cause the card to be read after a reboot, then randomly not readable later, as the OP described. All this is pointing toward an issue other than how KitKat handles SDs.
I would suggest re-formatting the SD to FAT32 (on that subject, what is it presently formatted to?) and seeing if that helps. I saw a very similar thread on the HTC One (M8) forum where the person was having trouble with the phone reading content on the SD (worked fine on other devices), was blaming the KitKat rule changes, and simply formatting the card fixed it right up. Also, try a different SD card, if you have access to one.
If that doesn't work, its possible where is some software or (hopefully not) hardware issue such as a broken SD tray. But let's try to format the card and see if that does the trick.

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear... I CAN see the Ext.SD but I can NOT write... The card (2nd) it's empty and I can write in it files in my PC's Card reader which I can see in my tablet... I CAN NOT write a file or make a folder or anything when the card it is inside the tablet...
That's why I said the tablet it is almost useless as I can use only the native 16GB minus...
EDIT:
Problem SOLVED for whoever need to know how go here: http://winaero.com/blog/unlock-external-sd-card-writing-for-all-apps-in-android-4-4-kitkat/
Thank you guys for the help so far. Sorry I am a bit slow but my laptop died on me and I have been dealing with that.
I am glad to hear its more than likely just an sd card problem not the kitkat problem. I really don't want to root it. I actually adore this device and don't want to had to return it.
I have played with it more and I am getting stuff like pictures and videos taken on the device to save to sd so it is reading the sd card. It just wont read what is placed on it externally. Is is maybe that I have to tether and cant pull the sd card out?
I did reformat the sd card with the device. So it is formatted to the device. But it still wont acknowledge stuff I drop on it only stuff that is saved on it from the device itself. But I do know its working because its showing pictures I have taken with the device on the sd card in the built in file manager. So whatever it is it's not the card reader slot.
I am going to try xdm9mm's suggestion and see if that will work. If not what else should I try?
Before I can test another sd card I need to buy one (I looked and only had the one extra lying around). So what card do you guys use on it with success?
You're taking the card out and using a card reader? I think I know your problem, the same thing happened to me when swapping cards with my phone. You have to go into the system settings, and under general, select storage. From there you can unmount the microSD card before taking it out. If you don't do that, it won't read the card properly when you put it back in.

Every time I have taken it out I have used the unmount section. Originally I unmounted it put it in the adapter and plugged it into my computer. Then I dragged and dropped everything I wanted on it to it. Once I had done that I used "safely remove" on the computer and then plugged it back into the card reader on my tablet. That is when it wouldn't read anything at all. I reset it several times and finally got it to read for a minute but then when the tablet went to sleep it self deleted everything on the card. I am thinking the self deleting may be fluke because I have been able to save pictures taken by the device on it with no trouble. It just won't read anything I put on myself.
The whole thing is a bit confusing lol. I even took it to a computer shop in town but the guy had no clue what I was trying to explain. I am going to try another sd card and try tethering the device to the computer to drop in some new files. Hopefully that will help.

Hrm. Another possibility, have you tried filling up the card, say with video files, then checking from the PC to see if they all play? Most of the really cheap memory cards are fake (including on Amazon), they only have a tiny capacity, and the controller is set up to loop, so it will write the data without giving any errors, and the files will be indexed, but the data isn't actually saved anywhere.

LG G7 Camera not saving pictures, must reboot to work again?

Not sure what is going on? I'm saving pictures to the SD card and it has plenty of room? If I reboot the phone it works again without deleting anything. A few days later it happens again? I open the camera, take a picture (on Auto or Manual, doesn't matter), hear the click, if flash is on, it flashes, but the picture never shows in the Gallery thumbnail next to the button??? Going to the Gallery itself doesn't show the picture either?
However, all I have to do is turn off and on the phone and it works, until the next time it happens?
Any suggestions? I've 'cleaned' the cache and extra files and that doesn't help?

Going to the Gallery itself doesn't show the picture either?
However, all I have to do is turn off and on the phone and it works, until the next time it happens?
Any suggestions? I've 'cleaned' the cache and extra files and that doesn't help?

Try to save them to the internal storage. Maybe there is something wrong with the SD card

Hmm, I didn't think of that?
I've had the phone since July and the problem started late Sept? Worked fine up until then.
I'll switch it over to Internal Storage and see what happens. Think I'll take out the card and check it on a PC as well. If the card has a problem I'll take care of it with CHKDSK or get a new one I guess? Wouldn't think it was the card though as rebooting makes it work again?
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll be back if that doesn't fix it...

I took the SD card to the PC. It said it needed to be fixed. I let it run and after awhile it came back and found no problems? Odd? Anyway I've put it back in the phone and reset it to SD card. I'll see if it happens again. If it does, will switch to Internal and see if it happens again. I'll report back if it does happen on Internal... Not sure I trust the SD card now since Windows couldn't use it as it said it had a problem but it didn't find any when it was fixing it?
Same problem.
How do you change to" save to internal storage"?

Go to the Camera app, in its settings, under Storage.
After I 'fixed' the SD card via my PC it worked for a few days, but came back and had the problem twice rebooting each time. The card was an older 2GB card. I purchased a newer 128GB card and so far that card seems to be working fine, although not heavily used yet.
I also put a 64GB card in my wife's G7 which had none and enabled it to use the card. We'll see what happens with her phone as well.
Format?
i have the same issue. All my pictures are on my SD card and I can access them, but when I take a picture saved to the SD card, it is nowhere to be found although SD is set as default. Saving to Internal works great - so as much as I don't want to I am going to save and reformat the SD card. When I change it to SD card save setting, it is fine for one picture, then it resets itself to Internal.
