[Q] lg optimus g pro E988 bricked - LG Optimus G Pro

Im new to this so if i sound stupid... dont mind it and just help me pls!
Phones rooted, try install new font style,i downloaded myfont app on playstore, downloaded a font style and install it,but it doesnt change the font of my phone,it only changed the font on the lock screen.so i thought something went wrong and try to set it back to default font but nothing happened.so i browsed system files, found a folder named fonts, and deleted the files that are written like the same font that i just downloaded and deleted them then restart the phone and when it booted, when the lockscreen appears it just stayed there, the screen went on and off showing the lock screen(is that a bootloop?) So i tried hard factory reset, then it booted, went to homescreen so i thought it was fixed.but when i locked the screen just to check if the fonts on the lockscreen were back to stock it just happened again, the screen went on and off showing the lockscreen(is that a bootloop agian?)so what i did was reset it again and when i got to the homescreen i went to settings, set the lock screen to "no lock screen" so it will never lock.and now i can use it like nothings wrong except for the notebook app that couldnt initialize and the lockscreen.i dont know how to fix this.my phones is only a week old,and this is my first android phone.pls help =[

Did you use freegee from the play store after rooting to install CWM? And then make a back up of your stock ROM ?

but i found a thread about installing a stock rom, should i try that?i dont care losing my files i just want to fix myphone, its only a week old..
if i flash that stock rom, would that help?

I would return to stock, re-root install CWM via freegee from the play store make a backup then start trying custom ROMs... You always need to have a backup of your stock ROM just invade something goes wrong..

That's the best advice and I second it.
I try to always do just the basic setup and app configs and installations then make a backup of stock before beginning to tinker with resources, because if you screw something up, you can always go back quickly to where you left off and save yourself a lot of hassle.

thank you sir.. so now i will flash a stock rom right?

hello everyone *** i tried to find the answer but i gave up. I rooted and install CyanogenMod 10. and it looks beautifully. however, lately i been having problem with my internet. goes in and out and now i can't send picture messages b/c i have no data connection at all. someone told me to update my profile on the phone but Cyanogen don't have that option when you go to the section "About Phone" it used to be an option there "update firmware" and "update profile" and other things but is not there anymore and i was told that i need to do that. Can anyone please help me or suggest some alternative option how to get my internet working g on my phone please.
BTW WiFi works fine.

Try restoring a backup of the stock touch wiz Rom and do the profile update from there and then flash the cm10 Rom.

number 1 rule... read the OP and install instructions before flashing anything.
I'm fairly certain the install instructions say make a nandroid back up. If you don't know what that is, you need to do research before flashing.
But if you didn't make one then your screwed. You need to Odin back to stock and start over.
Sent from Pluto.
You should always make a backup of your current Rom within your custom recovery before you flash a new Rom. Try searching on Google for the application Odin that you use on your computer to restore to stock. You need to return to stock to update your profile.

Flash to stock with Odin. From there do a ##72786# in the dialer. Then if all is well, MAKE A NANDROID, and reflash cm10
-sigh- wouldn't it just be easier to restore a nan backup of stock of someone else's for him? Most rooters do it. If one of you could upload it and have him download it and flash it he could do what he needs to
i already make the phone back to stock as i got it 3 times... flash it iinstall cm10 and keep on having tht issue. .... as soon as i install cm10 i start having issues on the phone. i have flash different cm10 nightly see maybe tht was the problem but no... still same issue

if i flash the stock rom, will i have my apps and data or will it be a factory reset?
what is the best way..flash stock directly or get cwm first?( flashing stock will restore stock recovery even on cwm..right?)
You made a back up right? Then no problem. Always make a backup for backup to back you up when trying anything new.

no, didnot do it unfortunately yet...should i use toolkit to do a nandroid?......how to back up with stock recovery?(for next time)
Okay. . So flashed the stock firmware through odin... Then flashed cwm + root. ... reinstalled and set all my apps and settings', widgets back in place
Now it's time for back up using cwm..
handwritten from my note 2 (N7100)
You can't make nandroid backup with stock recovery. You need something like CWM, for example. This is a good lesson for next time If you're gonna mess with your phone, better have a backup ready.

Yeah they should be the same, though I don't have experience with mskip toolkit, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Help please with OTA AT and T update on rooted phone

Hello,
My phone is rooted but ROM is stock. I don't generally flash anything and just stick to removing bloatware.
I installed TWRP and now I cannot get the latest official OTA AT&T update since the update load fails due to not having stock recovery. I have been searching online and cannot figure out how to get stock recovery.
I have been able to locate a supposed stock zip ROM for this phone. Can I just somehow flash this ZIP to return my phone to stock.
On previous phones I have been able to do a factory reset, which I have done several times on this phone today, in order to get it back to stock and accept OTA updates. This TWRP seems extremely invasive and I cannot get rid of it.
Thanks for any help
dave

I gave up and ended up just flashing cleanrom 3.5. Didn't wipe, kept all of my apps and data. I recommend this route if, like me, you want to keep stock kernel and tw.

I am the original poster. My phone would not flash the stock ATT rom that I downloaded somewhere. It could have been a bad ROM.
I could only end up getting into recovery and download mode. I did something to erase the entire operating system.
The guys over at TWRP or at least the guys on the message board got me through it. I ended up flashing the 3.5 clean rom. I never flashed a rom before only rooted. i also flashed the new modem zip as well. So far so good I guess.
Im going to have to figure out how to do an entire backup of my phone so that next time I can just restore it.
Thanks for the replies

Boot in to recovery (it's now an option from the power button) and follow the very easy buttons for backup. Select everything for an entire system backup (7 checks, I believe). Future backups can be just your data and apps if you want.

Turn off your phone. Boot into cwm and do a restore of your backup. This seems to be a problem with the ROM, can you link to it?

I've tried to return to stock using kdz but I click flash and 2 lines of code appear saying it started. How long should it take to flash? Right now I'm just trying to side load a stock variation. I'm just new to adb and flashing on computers.

That is because u have installed wrong baseband on your phone. Recover your previos stock rom and copy modem.img from it, you can find many HOW TO here on this forum. Only after that flash new ROM, copy your original EFS and modem into it.
Wrong rom or wrong kernel probably due to wrong rom. Try the above or flash a kernel appropriate for your Android version.

(FIXED) Just took 10p update and now I can't root...

Anybody taken the same update? Universal root isn't working for me, it's saying it's a read only system. Any help??

Try to flash again the older version with lg flash tool and root then.

rooting technique doesn't work
Won't take the update if you are rooted. Already tried.
Waiting for root safe confirmation before accepting an update that includes nothing more than Roms here have had for a while?
Sent from my LG-E980 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
you should never take an update unless you're SURE it can be rooted. I bought an s4 in the store and before I left the worker updated my phone for me to, and it turns out that update is what locked down the bootloader and to this day if you have that firmware you still can't unlock the bootloader.. so before anyone accepts updates research first or you might end up with a stock phone, forever.
You can root S4 though. Big difference between unlocking boot loader and rooting lol

That's what he's saying, basically the OP's problem differs slightly from yours in that although your phone was updated there was was still a means to root your phone even after losing the ability to unlock you boot loader. Meanwhile after updating the OP can't even get root. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though...

I can CONFIRM 100% that you CAN UPDATE to 10p once you are rooted and use TITANIUM BACKUP to FREEZE the AT&T APPS. Tried twice...worked flawlessly both times. Hope I helped someone.:good:
I just rooted and updated to the P version. Kept root. I don't even have TBU installed, either, so freezing ATT apps is not a variable necessarily.

It doesn't matter if you freeze the apps. It matters if the apps are uninstalled.

I never uninstalled them, only tried without being frozen, then with. Only updated with freezing. Not sure about uninstalling them.
Root sticks after the update. Your recovery must be stock, not CWM or TWRP. I didn't need to freeze anything, though I never deleted/disabled anything prior to the update.
What about the OP's question: Can anyone root AFTER taking the update? I assume his phone was not rooted prior to the update.
I just tried this myself on my "clean" phone and can confirm the univ root method does not work any more after the 10p update.
.
I'm having the same problem, hopefully somebody figures out a way way around this, I hate not being rooted.

looks like if your rooted but do not freeze, uninstall, or modify apps in any way that it will in fact update. Then after update go in and freeze the apps.

You might be on to something here! Definitely going to try tomorrow...even though I'm updated at the moment, and rooted!
well I had the similar issue as the OP. I was rooted, running CWM recovery and had removed most of the AT&T stock apps. I saw the update available and like a fool I accepted the update and then was stuck in CWM recovery boot loop. Nothing worked to get out of the loop so I decided to reflash with stock TOT file. Then I took the 10p update and found the Universal Root file not working (I updated before rooting).
I need to have root... so next try I reflash stock TOT file, root with Universal Root, accept update to 10p and all is good. I can once again remove AT&T stock apps, disable carrier-iq, use Freegees to go back to custom recovery, etc, etc, etc... all good now! :good:
