I just got my weekly email alert from "The Shack" and it had this link at the bottom to"
"The Shack has HTC Evo 4G Accessories"
So, I click on the link thinking they've finally gotten some good accessories in. Turns out it links to page that has a grand total of FIVE accessories.
http://www.radioshack.com/family/in...m=151172802&csc=97542&csa=151174454&csu=97876
Now, I understand that they aren't the official sellers of accessories, but beyond eBay has anyone else noticed that there just don't seem to be any "official" release like Apple had with all their partners for accessories for this device? That page FULL of accessories that was leaked, almost none of those have come out.
Anyone else feeling a bit frustrated that HTC/Sprint can't seem to get their act together enough to release or get the OEM makers to release any good accessories.
And by good, I AM discounting anything made by Seidio because I don't consider anything they make worth buying.
Agreed! Where's a decent desktop charger/cradle? Where's a car mount? I remember hype from Sprint that all this was going to be available. Unlike many, I don't care too much for the $5 Amazon stuff. I don't mind spending $30 for a Sprint asccessory if it's available. I have the Sprint charger for the car that has a usb charging port in the top of the plug. it can charge two phones at the same time.
This is one of Sprint's biggest shortcommings. They hype too much vaporware.
I can understand the feeling. Feel the same way. But to put it into perspective, you are comparing Apple's to Evo's. How many iPhone 3's are out there? It is all about numbers. Now if the Evo was being produced in the numbers that the iPhone 3's are for example. I bet we would have more accessories thanyou can shake a stick at. Pretty much everything outside of being an Apple, or RIM product is a niche market.
The same could be said about America aftermarket car parts. If you have a GM based product you have your choice of AM goodness, followed by Ford stuff. But if you have a Chrysler. Good luck. Us Chrysler guys have to resort to using stuff from other product lines to achieve what we want to do. Much like I use a Droid dock with my Evo. Plus if you pull off that tab in the back, you can use an extended battery case (at least my eBay 2700 battery+case).
Just my two cents.
That's it, I blame Apple (cause it's fun to do). The accessory companies dropped everything to make iPhone 4 things, they are now just getting around to making EVO stuff.
They can't even keep up with demand for the device itself, much less worry about silly things like accessories ;-)
The company I work for orders alot of stuff from seidio, I called our rep today and she told me that they are having production problems with both the car dock and the desk dock and that they expect to have an update in the next few weeks.....
Well the 2.2 update just added car dock functionality now, rumored to be released in august, as the media dock was rumored for july and never came... i've been waiting for the OEM docks since day 1... have a great ebay case, no need for a screen protector imo, and got the palm pre car charger (1000 mAh as opposed to 500 mAh almost all other car chargers). Didn't get a micro hdmi yet, waiting to check out the OEM dock first and make sure I can use hdmi out with a custom fps unlock/oc/uv kernel
Hi - just got an email from Proclip announcing their Glacier vehicle mount options (I'd emailed them previously asking if anything was coming). If you haven't seen them before, they use a 2 stage system, with custom mounts for vehicles paired with custom holders for phones. On the plus side, this means that you get a proper mount that (at least as far as my old mount for my HTC Kaiser) fits well. On the down side they are pricey.
My biggest disappointment with this one - like the T-Mobile desk dock, they've gone for USB rather than the pins for charging. Who knows - maybe they've got the tolerances right and these ones won't scratch phones, but I'm not sure I'm willing to for out $59-$79 (I already own the vehicle mount for my car) to find out. I might go for the non-powered mount which will be listed soon according to their email. It should be at least $25 cheaper going on their usual pricing schemes. Anyway, I thought I'd pass this on.

Well, that's disappointing. But so far, every accessory for this phone has been...
Thanks for the post.
Updated with the power-less mount for $35

Only thing i don't like about these is taking my phone out of it's case to use it. I have the hard plastic one with the kickstand from tmobile and love the case and the extra grip on the sides. I tried one of those new cases with the sticky back and i guess my phone was too heavy for it with the case, and it was crap, lol. Gonna have to keep looking for the perfect one.
I know the Car Dock comes with an insert for the phone if you do, or don't have a case on it. Confirmed today that the laptop dock does too. I assume that all the docks have this, but haven't seen an entertainment dock or standard dock. If anyone can confirm with pics, it would be greatly appreciated. Here's the laptop dock one in pics attached to this post.

I don't have pics but the Multimedia dock and Standard dock are the same way
I've got the MM dock and the car dock, and have played with the charging and LT docks in store. All have the little panel that pops out. The speck sorta works with the MM, charging, and LT docks, but not at all with the car dock. I now have the feather, which works with all 4.
I have the BodyGlove case from AT&T, and it works great on the laptop and car dock.
Son of a mother f*cking b*tch!!!!!! I already sent back my standard dock!!!!!!!!!
I have a Otterbox Commuter case, do you think that it would fit with the insert removed? The micro plug was really close to getting there, just couldn't make it work.
I know that even with my thin Body Glove case, the phone wouldn't even think of fitting in the laptop, but with the insert out, fits with ease. Could work fine, but I haven't dealt with the Commuter case yet.

I hate you... thanks for the info. guess I might re-order and give it a try.
*light bulb above head*
Wait a minute... I'll run down to the local AT&T store, they always have the Atrix in the Multimedia dock (same dimensions as the standard dock). I'll pop out the insert there and see if my case will fit.

Yep, my store didn't get the multimedia dock, just the laptop dock. We haven't recieved the otterbox defender in either, only seen them online. Best of luck, let us know what you find.
Well, no dice with the otterbox commuter case... I went to the local AT&T store, took the insert out of the standard dock, and the micro adapter still wouldn't reach. You should have seen the look on the dumb ass sales persons face... haha priceless.
I'm also assuming the otterbox defender case will not work either, as it is larger than the commuter case. Thanks anyway, still good info. to know.
Well I hope I'm not a thread-killer as I posted this several days ago in another thread and never had any comments on it...
I searched around on many forums but found no discussions about the "larger case" insert documented in the manual, at least for the Multimedia dock.
It's listed in the manual as part number SJYN0722A. The manual indicates that it is included when purchasing the dock and is for use with a "ruggedized" case. This is also referenced at Motorola's FAQ on accessories for use with a "2 shot battery door fit plate", whatever that is/was.
The insert that is being removed is part number SJYN0723A.
Anyone have this 22A insert or know anything about it? Was it discontinued before the docks were even released?
I have the Incipio Feather case and have removed the insert as discussed to use it in the Multimedia dock. It works, but does not physically support the phone at all as others have mentioned.
Thanks!

Not killing the thread at all, more info is always welcome. I would assume that the other part number is just the dock connector with no insert on it.
Sorry to double post if you already put this up, hadn't seen anything and it was cool to find out.
Thanks link12245
The manual specifically speaks to two inserts. One for just the phone and one for "over-sized" cases.
I guess that it never made it to production and Motorola didn't change the manuals....
motorola forgot to add the plate
i spoke to motorola support @ 800-734-5870, they acknowledged that the plate (part #: SJYN0722A) should have been included. they will refund the full amount for the dock & advised me to repurchase it online. the newer docks now includes this part.

I was going to call support, but thought I would ask around first.
I purchased this from Amazon and got it last week. I'll see if they have new stock for a return and/or give Motorola a call to see if I can find out who has fresh stock that has the insert.
So just like Cray Talk, I got tired of waiting on Samsung and designed and built my own Car Dock. It took me 3 designs/prototypes but the final outcome is quite nice. It has the POGO pins (only 2) and a micro USB plug. It was built on my Objet printer so I'm not sure how durable it will be long term but so far so good. The material tends to get soft at higher temperatures so fingers crossed it will be OK this summer . I would love to tool this thing and mold it but with how fast things change in the tech world, I doubt I could recoup my investment. I would be happy to share my CAD files of the car dock and/or the Gnex phone solid I used to create it for anyone interested in having a go themselves or if they want to build one. BTW this fits the CDMA with extended battery version.
Awesome work! Those objets make things look easy
I'd love to give the cad files (sold and the dock) a try - I have reprap myself, but hopefully I can convert them to something printable on my machine. (I'd like to try for a desktop dock as well)
What software did you design in?

Thanks. I use Solidworks. PM me with what CAD format you want and I'll send you he files.
Looks good, it would be perfect if I didn't need this stupid case. Wish I had access to a 3d printer.

Very nice!!!
I'd love it if you could share your CAD file(s).
We have a 3d printer here at work and I'd love to print this :-D

pm me with what CAD format you want and I will send them to you. Native format is Solidworks.
AWESOME. I love it. Now if only Samsung sold a 3 pin connector or simply a dock that accommodated a case, then I would be in heaven. Seriously, the Droid Razr dock is by FAR the best dock I have seen out there. It used a spacer so you could remove it to fit the phone, WITH A CASE, into the dock. And then a simple sliding micro USB connected to the phone. No fiddling with wires, no head ach.

It's a shame there are so many cases out there with different shapes and sizes. Can't possibly account for everything.
Indeed but the most common is the silicone/TPU cases, so even if the dock worked with them, it would be a step in the right direction
Are you selling these yet?
FYI - if you want, you can start selling your desgin @ Ponoko. Maybe with a little more tweaking you could make a slot for the 3 pin pogo connector.
I'd bet you would sell quite a few of these.
As a side note, I'm kinda surprised no 3rd party has made a pogo pin car dock by now.
Im not selling them because they are expensive to build given the material costs $0.50 per gram.
Regarding the pogo pin question, they are in the design and are working great.

Let your customers incur the cost.
I am getting a 3d printer at work and the cost of the material will be much cheaper than yours...lets talk. How many grams of material does it use? Are you using ABS? Did you use a tutorial for the pogo part? If so, which?
For anyone interested in the dock I made...
You can grab the files from here.

There are several different formats including .stl. I bought the POGO pins from DIGI-Key, PN-ED8182-ND and the Micro USB from SparkFun, PN-BOB-09614.
I do not take any responsibility for it's functionality when built from your 3d printer or other prototyping methods. I built mine from an Objet 30 and it works great.
This is designed to fit CDMA version with the extended battery and cover. I designed it to snap on an existing Motorola suction cup mount from a droid bionic car dock.
Have fun!
Thanks a lot this will certainly come in handy.

I PM'd you the info on getting my files. I don't remember the exact weight but I think it is around 150 grams of build material and 200 grams of support material. I have an Objet machine so it uses photo polymer material specific to Objet.
The pogo pin design and usb design is my creation, no tutorial around that I know of.

that's an awesome dock....3d printers are the shiz. I'd be totally interested in 3d printed home dock if anyone were to make any and sell them.

Hi All,
I have been looking at a few reviews of owners and their trials and errors
I would like to ask from those who have tried various docks and clip on chargers for the Z3 compact,
which of these would you recommend.
I am using a flap case with mine and don't want to end up purchasing something that totally doesn't fit
or completely useless in its ability to charge properly.
Could you give me some tips, ideas and feedback please??? Even if just listing names I don't mind
doing the search myself on the items.
Thanks!:good:
i've been using the Magnector since November, when i got the phone.
http://www.amazon.com/Magnector-Performance-Xperia-Charging-Cable/dp/B00JEMESHG
zero issues. i chose the cable over any docks because i wanted some flexibility in case i needed to charge in my car, or while travelling; and i also wanted to be able to use it while it was charging.
I'm using the Deff microusb adapter and am very happy with it.
I have it pictured with my Rinke Fusion clear case here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58136303&postcount=21
I got it elsewhere, but it's available on Amazon.

I am using the original Sony DK48.
Battery life is OK and i can make small charges easier with it. But the device is a bit overpriced thought.
