I have one of the Ebay 3000mAh batteries + replacement back, and I love it by the way, but the new depth is approximately 150mm now, and now I'm having trouble finding an attractive car dock that fits it. I'm trying to avoid using one of those "universal" docks because they're all so big and bulky. But the really attractive docks like the SlipGrip don't look like they're made to readily accept slightly thicker Evos. If all else fails I'll probably try one of the Garmin mounts as mentioned in another thread, but first I thought I'd ask what everyone else was using for their Quasimodo Evos...
I didn't see this anywhere else in the forum - apologies in advance if it's a duplicate.
I know the Car Dock comes with an insert for the phone if you do, or don't have a case on it. Confirmed today that the laptop dock does too. I assume that all the docks have this, but haven't seen an entertainment dock or standard dock. If anyone can confirm with pics, it would be greatly appreciated. Here's the laptop dock one in pics attached to this post.

I don't have pics but the Multimedia dock and Standard dock are the same way
I've got the MM dock and the car dock, and have played with the charging and LT docks in store. All have the little panel that pops out. The speck sorta works with the MM, charging, and LT docks, but not at all with the car dock. I now have the feather, which works with all 4.
I have the BodyGlove case from AT&T, and it works great on the laptop and car dock.
Son of a mother f*cking b*tch!!!!!! I already sent back my standard dock!!!!!!!!!
I have a Otterbox Commuter case, do you think that it would fit with the insert removed? The micro plug was really close to getting there, just couldn't make it work.
I know that even with my thin Body Glove case, the phone wouldn't even think of fitting in the laptop, but with the insert out, fits with ease. Could work fine, but I haven't dealt with the Commuter case yet.

I hate you... thanks for the info. guess I might re-order and give it a try.

Wait a minute... I'll run down to the local AT&T store, they always have the Atrix in the Multimedia dock (same dimensions as the standard dock). I'll pop out the insert there and see if my case will fit.

Yep, my store didn't get the multimedia dock, just the laptop dock. We haven't recieved the otterbox defender in either, only seen them online. Best of luck, let us know what you find.
Well, no dice with the otterbox commuter case... I went to the local AT&T store, took the insert out of the standard dock, and the micro adapter still wouldn't reach. You should have seen the look on the dumb ass sales persons face... haha priceless.
I'm also assuming the otterbox defender case will not work either, as it is larger than the commuter case. Thanks anyway, still good info. to know.
Well I hope I'm not a thread-killer as I posted this several days ago in another thread and never had any comments on it...
I searched around on many forums but found no discussions about the "larger case" insert documented in the manual, at least for the Multimedia dock.
It's listed in the manual as part number SJYN0722A. The manual indicates that it is included when purchasing the dock and is for use with a "ruggedized" case. This is also referenced at Motorola's FAQ on accessories for use with a "2 shot battery door fit plate", whatever that is/was.
The insert that is being removed is part number SJYN0723A.
Anyone have this 22A insert or know anything about it? Was it discontinued before the docks were even released?
I have the Incipio Feather case and have removed the insert as discussed to use it in the Multimedia dock. It works, but does not physically support the phone at all as others have mentioned.
Thanks!

Not killing the thread at all, more info is always welcome. I would assume that the other part number is just the dock connector with no insert on it.
Sorry to double post if you already put this up, hadn't seen anything and it was cool to find out.
Thanks link12245
The manual specifically speaks to two inserts. One for just the phone and one for "over-sized" cases.
I guess that it never made it to production and Motorola didn't change the manuals....
motorola forgot to add the plate
i spoke to motorola support @ 800-734-5870, they acknowledged that the plate (part #: SJYN0722A) should have been included. they will refund the full amount for the dock & advised me to repurchase it online. the newer docks now includes this part.

I was going to call support, but thought I would ask around first.
I purchased this from Amazon and got it last week. I'll see if they have new stock for a return and/or give Motorola a call to see if I can find out who has fresh stock that has the insert.

I like these mounts, the page just went up today. It's much better than the crap Verizon is pushing. Anyone else ever use these docks?
I can't tell from the pics but does the one that have the charger block the audio out?
Never mind, I can see the audio jack now in the pics.
i came on to post this...I just got an email from proclip confirming this. Ive used proclip in the past and they are of good quality

Looks like it. I would like the active setup, but I will have a TPU case on it. I wonder if a heat gun can help me bend it out a bit.

I'm looking at the same problem here. I've been using a holder with the 2 amp charger for the past two years with my Incredible and absolutely love it. I've never been able to get an extended battery because of how tight it slides in, though. I'll email them and ask but I might have to just swap in the stock battery for rides I know I'll need the juice.
Pros of using this are great, though. Because it's 2 amp charger I would get ~25% in about 20 minutes of driving with my Incredible with fast charging enabled in the kernel. GPS and Bluetooth for Google Maps would slow the charge down but would still give me a full charge from 20% to full in an hour. With Cyanogen I would set my bluetooth to only turn on when connected to a wall charger so I'd slide this in and my buetooth would turn on and connect to my car automatically. Last but not least, your wires are all tucked away! Very clean look.
Does the mount hold the audio cable so it doesn't move and it plugs into the phone?
Any issues with the diztronic TPU case? Would it prevent the microusb or audio plugs from inserting into the phone completely?

If you get the universal dock, the bottom of the phone is completely exposed so you won't have any issues. I got my wife one of these (universal) for her iPod a few years back and the build quality is top notch.
i wish I didn't have to also plug in the cables separately, but maybe I can jerryrig something up.

If you don't want to remove the case, then you need to get the universal dock. I wish them made a version of the active dock that was slightly adjustable, but they don't.
My question is would the charging holder accommodate the extended battery given that it barely adds any thickness to the device. From the looks of the pictures, it looks like the device slides in and is held on to the sides only so it looks like shouldn't be a problem.
I contacted customer service and they said this:
Indeed the added battery won't make it work in 512324. Our adjustable holder listed with the Galaxy Nexus listing might work. Our custom holders are made for the device as it comes out of the box, and indeed any added thickness will make it not work in our custom holders.

Which I don't want. I want one with the charger, that can accomodate a case.
They make such a thing for the iphone. My co-worker has one.

Most extended batteries tend to add a lot of bulk (more than cases sometimes). The person who emailed you back may not be aware that the GN's extended battery adds about 1-2 mm of bulk to the bottom half of the phone.
Since the holder is a slide-in type, I can't see this being 'millimeter-tight'. Don't take my word for it but I'm willing to bet that this will fit even with the extended battery on.
I guess we won't know for sure until someone gets the fitted holders and try it though. I'd try, but I've a case so the fitted ones do me no good for sure.

80 bucks for that dock. Ouch. Good concept, but that is a bit rich.
I wish you could buy these at a store. I've already got the whole set for the Nexus One and I've been waiting for the GN mount. I just added to my cart and it's an extra $20 in shipping (to Toronto). So after duty at the border I'm looking easy at $60 just for that one piece of molded plastic. Yeah the mount is great, but that's seriously expensive.
I've used their cases for the last 2 years, nexus s and thunderbolt, and they are great. I still have my Nexus S holder and the picture of the one on their site for the GNex looks like the same style, if so it should work with the extended battery. The slide in case is tight on the sides but leaves a gap behind the phone, see attached pic. The phone slides into that groove and the groove itself is very thin so it doesn't appear it will interfere with the rear battery cover at all.
Proclips is a great solution. I've used it for my car for years. I used them in 3 different cars. Pricey however, it works very well. A+
Got a negative response =(
Unfortunately not. We only have adjustable holder with charging for our Apple line. These have all the same connectors in exact the same location.
For other phones there are too many differences in charging location and thickness of cases.

For those in the UK... just ordered an active mount from http://www.mountonus.com/
£59.99... bit steep but I guess thats the price you pay for a nice phone-specific/car-specific mount!

It was to be expected. They are not going to design a niche product for a phone until it sells consistently in the millions. That said... Creating a Micro USB small swing arm to make it universal should be too hard....
If I feel industrial, I might see what I can make on my own.
Hey guys, I just found this magnetic charging cable for a really low price: http://r.ebay.com/D4Ax5N
I didn't think I needed one but my case only has a cut out for the magnetic charger dock and not the USB port so it's getting a bit annoying to take it off all the time. This one seems to be designed for the Z1 and not the Z1 Compact so I was just wondering, would it fit the Compact? I'm under the impression that the size should be the same but I just wanted to double check.
Also, this is far cheaper than most other places. I don't have much experience with cables and chargers beyond what's usually provided in the box. Can you guys think of some quality issues that might exist? Wouldn't want it to short circuit my phone or anything although I'm not sure if that's possible

Thanks for the link. I got my case here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/121254732243?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
It's pretty good although it did have some dried glue on it when it arrived and the back had a tiny bit chipped off the surface. It has cutouts for all the ports except the USB. Idiots! That's the one that's used the most...
I had problems with the Magnector X adapter not working well with my z3 with a case. This one looks a lot more friendly and is more high quality than the ones coming out of China. Just ordered one. Will report back when I get it.

I hate how the magnector ones are very weak moving them laterally up and down. But its very strong if you try to pull it straight off.

Hmm @ 21$ (with shipping included) wouldnt it make more sense to just buy a Magnet Connector Wire by itself instead of an adapter?

The Magnector X adapter is $15 and the Magnector X cable is $18 so they are comparable in price and are higher quality than the ones you can get from China. I'm hoping I get a faster charge speed with this adapter than the one I have now.

I prefer adapters. When the cable fails you swap out with another micro-usb. This is what I did with Apple lightning connectors as well. My wife has gone through several, but my son who uses a mucro-usb to lightning tip for his iPad has never needed me to buy him an expensive lightning cable . The point of failure is almost always going to be right where the cable meets the tip. If you can move that common failure point off your expensive adapter and on to your inexpensive usb cable it makes sense IMO.
I'm dying to know if the Magnector is tall enough to connect to a Z3C ensconced in a case. I haven't seen anyone definitively say whether it will or not. My Cruzerlite case and the phone itself should show up within the next couple of weeks at which point (I'm crossing my fingers) I'll find out everything works as I imagine it will.
A lot of people report that the Magnector adapter does not work with cases, and I can see why -- there is very little clearance between the charging surface and cable. Looking forward to hearing more about the Deff adapter.
I'm using a couple of cheapo ebay magnetic charging cables right now, which work fine and were cheap enough that they're virtually disposable so I don't care if they don't last long. I'm not expecting any adapter, however pricey, to be very stable laterally because the mag port was only really designed for the dock, which obviously holds the phone still while charging. AFAIK there is no official Sony magnetic charging cable, despite what ebay sellers want us to believe.
I got my deff and it is great. Enough clearance to fit with a case, strong magnet and produces more current than the cheap ones from China.
If you're looking for a good magnetic charger, pick up one of these adapters.

Just search ebay for "sony magnetic cable" and a million options come up. In my (limited) experience they'll all fit more or less the same -- OK but by no means rock solid (I'm sire they're all made in the same Chinese factory). I did try modding one with a dremel tool to fit slightly better but now it doesn't work any more :cyclops: The best of my cheap bunch is the (slightly less cheap) Apple-style ones with a cylindrical head and in-line LED.
One thing to note... some (including my favorite) seem to have spring-loaded pins, so even though they stick out a bit from the charging head they will retract once in contact with the phone's charging pins.
I do want to try one of the Magnector-X cables, however. Looking at the design of the head it seems that it will be much more firmly attached to the phone because of the curved profile that matches the phone edge and gives a much greater area of contact. All the cheapies have a raised, flat charging surface so only the narrow magnet and pins are in contact with the phone. That means that however strong the magnet it's very easy for them to rock sideways and disconnect.
Dopes anyone have one of the newer Magnector -X cables (not he adapter)?

I have both the cable and the adapter from Magnector, and the cable is way better in terms of staying on. I can pick up and use my phone with the cable without it disconnecting. It also works great while driving in my car mount. The adapter is good when just leaving it sit (charging overnight, for example).
The only drawback about the cable is that it's a bit shorter than I'd like, but that's easily solved with a USB extension cable. I've not tried any of the ebay ones, I wasn't too impressed from the comments of others in this forum.
